This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH. Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems. The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). This project aims to improve m...aternal and neonatal health status of poor women, girls and boys.It provides technical assistance, equipment, and teaching and learning aids to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to improve the quality of education for nurse midwives and community skilled birth attendants. It also provides support to the Ministry to rationalize the rules for recruiting, posting, promoting and training nurse midwives.Activities include: training nursing teachers and supervisors in pedagogy and midwifery; providing teaching and learning aids to public sector nursing institutes; repairing nursing institutes; strengthening the Bangladesh Nursing Council so it can enforce standards at nursing training institutes; supporting the installation of a nursing management information system at the Directorate of Nursing Services; and supporting training and supervision of community skilled birth attendants.The project works with the Directorate of Nursing Services, the Bangladesh Nursing Council and the Human Resource Development Unit of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare./ Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé néonatale et maternelle chez les femmes, les filles et les garçons pauvres. Il permet de fournir une assistance technique, de l'équipement et du matériel d'enseignement et d'apprentissage au ministère de la Santé et du Bien-être familial afin d'améliorer la qualité de l'éducation destinée aux infirmières sages-femmes et les préposées aux naissances qualifiées au sein des collectivités. Il permet également d'aider le ministère à simplifier les règles régissant le recrutement, le déploiement, la promotion et la formation d'infirmières sages-femmes.Parmi les activités, mentionnons la formation des enseignants en soins infirmiers et des superviseurs à la pédagogie et à la profession de sage-femme, la fourniture de matériel d'enseignement et d'apprentissage aux instituts de soins infirmiers du secteur public, la remise en état de ces instituts, le renforcement des capacités du Conseil des soins infirmiers du Bangladesh à faire respecter les normes au sein des instituts de soins infirmiers, le soutien à la mise en place d'un système d'information sur la gestion des soins infirmiers à la Direction des services de soins infirmiers, de même que le soutien à la formation et à la supervision des préposées aux naissances qualifiées au sein des collectivités.La Direction des soins infirmiers, le Conseil des soins infirmiers du Bangladesh et l'Unité du développement des ressources humaines au sein du ministère de la Santé et du Bien-être familial participent au projet.

This contribution represents C...anada's long-term institutional support to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), a non-profit international health research, service, and training institution. icddr,b uses these funds, along with other donors' funding, to achieve its mandate.icddr,b's mandate is to provide free, high quality health care for the poor in Bangladesh, including maternal and child health services and treatment for diarrhoeal and other diseases. It also supports research that is designed to generate the data needed to develop policies and practices to address significant health challenges in Bangladesh and other countries.Canada's support to icddr,b contributes to ensuring that icddr,b is providing effective, evidence-based, gender-responsive health care and health education services for the poor. It also ensures that the icddr,b can continue to conduct important health research that translates into policies that can help to improve the health and reduce poverty levels of Bangladeshis. Canada's institutional support is also helping to strengthen the management systems and improve the sustainability of the Centre./ Cette contribution représente le soutien institutionnel à long terme du Canada au Centre international de recherche sur les maladies diarrhéiques du Bangladesh (CIRMD – Bangladesh), un institut international de recherche, de services et de formation dans le secteur de la santé à but non lucratif. Le CIRMD utilise ces fonds, ainsi que ceux octroyés par d'autres donateurs, pour mener à bien son mandat.Le CIRMD a pour mandat d'offrir gratuitement des soins de santé de qualité aux personnes démunies du Bangladesh, y compris des services de santé maternelle et infantile et un traitement des maladies diarrhéiques, entre autres. This project aims to improve t...he health of mothers, newborns and children under five in order to improve children's growth and reduce death in 14 poor districts in Bangladesh. The corrective actions for each district address shortages and bottlenecks in the public health care system, respond to communication issues, train health service providers and expand cold storage to accommodate the introduction of new vaccines. The project activities are integrated in the Operational Plans of the Health Population and Nutrition Sector Development Program of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.The project empowers families and women with knowledge about available services and the standard of service they should expect. Over 1.5 million women and 5.8 million young children in Bangladesh are expected to benefit from this project./ Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants de moins de cinq ans afin d'améliorer la croissance des enfants et de réduire le taux de mortalité dans 14 districts pauvres au Bangladesh. Les mesures correctives prises dans chaque district visent à remédier aux manques et aux engorgements dans le système de soins de santé public, à régler les problèmes de communications, à former des fournisseurs de services de santé et à prévoir plus d'espace pour la réfrigération des nouveaux vaccins. Les activités du projet sont intégrées aux plans opérationnels du Programme de développement des secteurs de la santé, de la population et de la nutrition du Ministère de la Santé et de la Protection de la famille.Le projet permet aux familles et aux femmes de connaître les services disponibles et les normes de services auxquelles elles devraient s'attendre. Il est attendu que ce projet profite à plus de 1,5 million de femmes et à 5,8 millions de jeunes enfants au Bangladesh.

The project aims to improve th...e reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services delivered through midwives in its four target countries of Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia and Tanzania. The project activities include: (1) training midwives to increase their skills; (2) educating communities on the dangers of poor health care for new mothers and babies; and (3) addressing the gender barriers that keep pregnant women from accessing appropriate and timely healthcare. The project draws upon the unique Canadian model of midwifery, which supports midwives to work independently and in remote areas, and is implemented through a consortium led by CUSO International with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM). Local partners for the project are the national midwifery associations in each country. / Le projet vise à améliorer les services reproductive et de la santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile dispensés par les sages-femmes dans les quatre pays cibles du Bénin, la République démocratique du Congo (RDC), en Ethiopie et en Tanzanie. Les activités du projet comprennent: (1) la formation des sages-femmes pour améliorer leurs compétences; (2) l'éducation des communautés sur les dangers de la médiocrité des soins de santé pour les mères et les bébés; et (3) éliminer les obstacles entre les sexes qui empêchent les femmes enceintes d'accéder à des soins de santé appropriés et en temps opportun. Le projet se fonde sur le modèle canadien unique de sage-femme qui soutient les sages-femmes à travailler de façon autonome et dans les régions éloignées; et est mis en oeuvre par un consortium dirigé par CUSO international avec l'Association canadienne des sages-femmes (CAM). Les partenaires locaux du projet sont les associations de sages-femmes de chaque pays.

This project is part of the De...partment of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad, needed to launch successful careers. The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation offers 40 Canadian interns internships in nine countries: Bhutan, Bolivia, Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda. The internships focus on increasing food security, stimulating sustainable economic growth and capacity-building. Interns assist in preparing educational and communications materials, facilitating and designing workshops, organizing events and managing projects. / Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), financé par la Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada, sous le volet Objectif carrière. Le PSIJ vise à offrir aux jeunes Canadiens titulaires d'un diplôme postsecondaire la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle en participant au développement international, nécessaire pour amorcer une carrière réussie. Le Conseil atlantique pour la coopération internationale permet à 40 stagiaires canadiens d'intervenir dans neuf pays, soit au Bhutan, en Bolivie, en Gambie, au Ghana, en Haiti, en Jamaique, en Afrique du Sud, au Kenya et en Ouganda. Les stages visent à augmenter la sécurité alimentaire, à stimuler la croissance économique de manière durable et à renforcer les capacités des partenaires locaux. Les stagiaires appuient la préparation de matériel éducatif et de communication, conçoivent et animent des ateliers, organisent des événements et gèrent des projets.

The project works with the Ministry of Health in Bolivia to scale-up the successful Community Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses framework and to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in health among vulnerable populations in Bolivia, including the poor, women and children./Ce projet (2011-2016) vise à renforcer les capacités institutionnelles et communautaires en soutien à un système de soins de santé primaires et à l'amélioration de la survie et du développement des enfants et des femmes dans 26 municipalités ciblées de la Bolivie. The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition. The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations. / Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname. Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. Pour cela, le projet va travailler sur trois composantes : (1) renforcement des systèmes de santé; (2) réduction du fardeau des principales maladies, et ; (3) amélioration de la nutrition. Le projet va contribuer à (i) faciliter une meilleure utilisation des soins de santé de bases ; (ii) renforcer la gestion par les autorités locales des principales maladies ; (iii) améliorer les habitudes alimentaires chez les populations cibles.

The goal of this project is to... improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls and women, and to reduce maternal and newborn mortality among vulnerable populations in Bolivia. This is to be achieved through a rights-based approach that is adolescent-friendly and culturally-sensitive. The project addresses barriers to adolescents' demand for reproductive and sexual health services, challenges in the provision of such services and community and institutional level governance and accountability. Plan Canada works with APROSAR (Bolivian NGO) to implement the project in 12 municipalities in the departments of La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Potosí./Le but de ce projet est d'améliorer la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) des adolescentes et des femmes, et de réduire la mortalité maternelle et néonatale parmi les populations vulnérables en Bolivie. This project aims to improve s...exual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for vulnerable adolescent girls and boys through an adolescent-friendly approach focused on preventing and reducing unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and sexual and gender-based violence. Project activities include: (1) strengthening SRHR healthcare services through capacity development of health networks; (2) mobilizing adolescent groups and organizations to improve their awareness and capacity to engage on SRHR issues; and (3) improving the policy and operational environment at subnational levels for preventing unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and sexual and gender-based violence. The initiative is implemented by UNICEF, as part of their Bolivia country program, in collaboration with Save the Children./Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) des adolescentes et des adolescents vulnérables grâce à une approche adaptée aux adolescents axée sur la prévention et la réduction des grossesses non désirées, du VIH/sida, et de la violence sexuelle et la violence fondée sur le sexe (VSFS). Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) le renforcement des services de SDSR grâce au développement des capacités des réseaux de santé; 2) mobiliser les groupes et les organisations d'adolescents pour améliorer leurs connaissances et leur capacité à s'engager sur les questions de SDSR; 3) améliorer l'environnement politique et opérationnel aux niveaux infranationaux pour prévenir les grossesses non désirées, le VIH/sida et la VSFS. L'initiative est mise en œuvre par l'UNICEF, dans le cadre de son programme-pays pour la Bolivie, en collaboration avec Save the Children.

The second phase of this initi...ative aims to contribute to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality in the health districts of Bogandé and Manni (eastern region), Yako and Gourcy (northern region) and Koudougou, Réo, Tenado and Sabou (Central West Region) in Burkina Faso. The maternal mortality rate (341 per 100,000) and infant and juvenile deaths are high. The likelihood of a child dying before reaching the fifth birthday is one in eight according to the 2010 demographic survey. In addition, the healthcare system faces significant institutional challenges, such as stock-outs or insufficient qualified staff, which have a significant impact on the quality of care provided and, consequently, the desire of communities to use the services.Project activities include: (1) identification of training needs and training on hygiene and sanitation, prenatal and postnatal care, safe delivery practices, patient psychology, screening, follow-up and reference of malnourished children, follow-up and accompaniment of pregnant women and adolescents; (2) the equipment of health and social promotion centers; 3) Sensitization of opinion leaders, political and administrative authorities and communities on the health of mothers, newborns and children.The project is being implemented by a consortium of the World University Service of Canada, Université Laval and Farm Radio International to help improve maternal, newborn and child health.Local partners are ''l' Association solidarité Entraide mutuelle au Sahel, le Conseil Burkinabè des ONG et Associations de lutte contre les IST/VIH/SIDA et le Centre d'information, de conseil et de documentation sur le SIDA et la tuberculose.''/ Cette initiative qui est une phase II, vise à contribuer à la réduction de la mortalité maternelle et infantile dans les districts sanitaires de Bogandé et Manni (région de l'Est), Yako et Gourcy (région du Nord) et Koudougou, Réo, Tenado et Sabou (région du Centre-Ouest) au Burkina Faso. This project aims to improve t...he health of people living in 251 rural villages in Mozambique, Tanzania and Burundi by increasing their access to primary health care and clean water, promoting good health habits, and improving the agricultural yield of smallholder farmers. Most illnesses and deaths in the project villages are due to preventable diseases, lack of access to trained health workers and lack of access to clean water and adequate food. The project therefore seeks to increase the number of community health workers, provide bicycle ambulances to remote villages, build or expand basic health infrastructure where most needed, and enhance access to clean water by refurbishing old wells and building new ones. The project also educates women, men and children on sexual reproductive health, proper nutrition and sanitation, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and gender issues, and trains both women and men farmers on best practices in sustainable agriculture.The project is implemented with local partners in each country: the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania./ Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des populations de 194 villages ruraux au Mozambique, en Tanzanie et au Burundi en augmentant l'accès aux soins de santé primaire et à l'eau potable, en faisant la promotion de saines habitudes de vie et en améliorant le rendement agricole des petits exploitants. La plupart des maladies et des décès dans les villages ciblés par le projet étaient causées par des maladies évitables, le manque d'accès à des travailleurs de la santé communautaire et le manque d'accès à de l'eau potable et à une alimentation adéquate.Le projet est mis en œuvre avec des partenaires locaux dans chaque pays : le diocèse anglican de Bujumbura au Burundi, EHALE au Mozambique, et le diocèse anglican de Masasi en Tanzanie.Le projet contribue à augmenter le nombre de travailleurs communautaires dans le secteur de la santé, à fournir des vélos-ambulances aux villages éloignés, à construire ou à agrandir des infrastructures de santé de base dans les collectivités qui en ont le plus besoin et à améliorer l'accès à l'eau potable en creusant ou en rénovant des puits. Le projet enseigne également aux femmes, aux hommes et aux enfants les principes de santé sexuelle et génésique, de nutrition et d'hygiène, de santé maternelle et infantile, de prévention du VIH/sida et d'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Une formation sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'agriculture durable est également donnée aux agriculteurs et agricultrices.

This initiative aims to reduce... illness and death among women of reproductive age, newborns and children under five by working with local health authorities.. Activities include: (1) training women and men health workers and traditional birth attendants to dispense accurate advice on ante and post-natal care, promote healthy habits, provide basic health care, identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to government-run medical facilities; (2) equipping a select number of health centers with essential equipment to reduce infection, monitor vital signs of fetuses and facilitate night time deliveries; (3) constructing dispensaries, nurses' houses and expectant mothers' houses to encourage facility based delivery; (4) providing rapid and affordable transport to medical facilities; (5) improving access to clean water and nutritious food; and (6) mobilizing and equipping communities and village leaders for sustainability of MNCH and gender results. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health and nutrition of approximately 2 million women, men and children and in addition, around 1 million individuals. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: VHW in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, Inshuti Mu Buzima (Partners in Health) in Rwanda, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi n Tanzania. / Le projet vise à réduire les maladies et la mortalité chez les femmes en âge de procréer, les nouveau-nés et les enfants de moins de cinq ans, en collaboration avec les autorités de santé locales. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) formation des travailleurs de la santé (hommes et femmes) et des accoucheuses traditionnelles pour qu'ils puissent donner des conseils éclairés sur les soins prénataux et postnataux, promouvoir des habitudes saines, offrir des soins de santé de base, repérer les grossesses à haut risque et orienter les patientes vers les établissements de santé gouvernementaux; 2) approvisionnement d'un certain nombre de centres de santé en équipement essentiel à la réduction des infections, à la surveillance des signes vitaux des foetus et à la facilitation des accouchements de nuit; 3) construction de dispensaires et de résidences pour les infirmières et les femmes enceintes afin de favoriser l'accouchement dans un établissement; 4) création de moyens de transport rapides et abordables vers les établissements de santé; 5) amélioration de l'accès à l'eau potable et aux aliments nutritifs; 6) mobilisation et outillage des communautés et des dirigeants des villages pour leur permettre d'obtenir des résultats durables en matière de SMNE et d'égalité entre les sexes. On s'attend à ce que le projet contribue directement à l'amélioration de la santé et de la nutrition d'environ 2 millions de femmes, d'hommes et d'enfants, et touche aussi environ 1 million d'autres personnes.

It builds on the model initiated by the University of Western Ontario under the Muskoka Initiative, directly addressing the ability of health care providers in district hospitals and the health centers to care for women, infants, and children presenting with complications before, during, and after birth. The project aims to reduce the... incidence of child and maternal mortality in targeted countries through maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination (MNTE). Maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) is a deadly disease that affects women and children in developing countries. When women give birth in unhygienic circumstances, both mother and baby are at risk of contracting tetanus if they are not protected by vaccination. With DFATD's support, UNICEF Canada is providing tetanus vaccine to at least 3,401,448 women of reproductive age and their future newborns in Pakistan, Sudan, Chad, Kenya and South Sudan. Project activities include: (1) distributing vaccines and supplies for supplemental immunization activities; (2) strengthening of the cold chain to transport vaccines and supplies; (3) promoting clean delivery practices, routine immunization and antenatal care; (4) developing and implementing national plans of action, training and support for health workers; and (5) strengthening surveillance of MNTE to monitor and evaluate progress. / Le projet vise à réduire le nombre de cas de mortalité d'enfants et de mères dans les pays ciblés grâce à l'élimination du tétanos chez les mères et les nouveau-nés. Cette maladie mortelle touche les femmes et les enfants dans les pays en développement. Lorsque les femmes accouchent dans des conditions non hygiéniques, la mère et le bébé courent le risque de contracter le tétanos s'ils ne sont pas protégés par le vaccin. Avec le soutien du MAECD, UNICEF Canada fournit un vaccin antitétanique à au moins 3 401 448 femmes en âge de procréer et à leurs futurs nouveau-nés au Pakistan, au Soudan, au Tchad, au Kenya et au Soudan du Sud. The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition. The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations. / Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname. Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. Pour cela, le projet va travailler sur trois composantes : (1) renforcement des systèmes de santé; (2) réduction du fardeau des principales maladies, et ; (3) amélioration de la nutrition. Le projet va contribuer à (i) faciliter une meilleure utilisation des soins de santé de bases ; (ii) renforcer la gestion par les autorités locales des principales maladies ; (iii) améliorer les habitudes alimentaires chez les populations cibles.

The project aims to improve th...e reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services delivered through midwives in its four target countries of Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia and Tanzania. The project activities include: (1) training midwives to increase their skills; (2) educating communities on the dangers of poor health care for new mothers and babies; and (3) addressing the gender barriers that keep pregnant women from accessing appropriate and timely healthcare. The project draws upon the unique Canadian model of midwifery, which supports midwives to work independently and in remote areas, and is implemented through a consortium led by CUSO International with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM). Local partners for the project are the national midwifery associations in each country. / Le projet vise à améliorer les services reproductive et de la santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile dispensés par les sages-femmes dans les quatre pays cibles du Bénin, la République démocratique du Congo (RDC), en Ethiopie et en Tanzanie. Les activités du projet comprennent: (1) la formation des sages-femmes pour améliorer leurs compétences; (2) l'éducation des communautés sur les dangers de la médiocrité des soins de santé pour les mères et les bébés; et (3) éliminer les obstacles entre les sexes qui empêchent les femmes enceintes d'accéder à des soins de santé appropriés et en temps opportun. This initiative aims to reduce... mother and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and Childs mortality. Through this initiative, the delivery of adapted health services to mothers and children (age 0-5) will be improved by increasing the professional skills of male and female health workers. Furthermore, supporting the local financial capacity will improve health services planning and access to quality data. To increase use of these health services, education campaigns will be launched to teach about reducing maternity risks, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as early pregnancy.Activities include: 1) training health care providers; 2) strengthening executives' management skills; 3) building five maternity wards and 15 maternity rehabilitation wards; 4) providing equipment and medicines; 5) launching awareness campaigns for the prevention of mother-child HIV/AIDS transmission; 6) assisting 3,500 seropositive women and newborns; 7) launching an early pregnancy prevention campaign; 8) organising knowledge sharing and networking events for the general Canadian public in order to stimulate their commitment to support MNCH initiatives in developing countries.Direct beneficiaries are: 300,000 pregnant women, 90,000 spouses (men), 43,000 youth (age 15-24) as well as 455,000 newborns and children under five, of which 52% are girls. These beneficiaries will be better informed and/or will use the improved health services. This initiative aims to reduce... mother and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and Childs mortality. The project aims to improve th...e well-being of children and youth aged 6 to 22 and protect them against violations of their rights, abuse and sexual and economic exploitation, in and around 20 mining sites in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It seeks to support survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, reinforce everyday life skills, provide comprehensive sexual education and enable the socio-economic reintegration of children and youth in the provinces of Upper Katanga, Lualaba and South Kivu. Project activities include: (1) establishing partnerships for the protection of children between mining companies, local authorities and communities, (2) strengthening health services in mining communities, and (3) developing the skills and capacities of community leaders and groups to negotiate protective measures for children and monitor their implementation. In addition, advisory committees and socio-economic and recreational activities enable children to participate actively in the prevention of violence, economic exploitation and sexual abuse. / Le projet vise à améliorer le bien-être des enfants et des jeunes âgés de 6 à 22 ans, et de les protéger contre les abus de leurs droits, la maltraitance, l'exploitation sexuelle et économique, dans et autour de 20 sites miniers en République démocratique du Congo (RDC). Il cherche à prendre en charge les survivants de violences sexuelles et sexistes et à renforcer les compétences de la vie courante, fournir une éducation sexuelle complète et permettre la réinsertion socio-économique des enfants et des jeunes provenant des provinces du Haut Katanga, de Lualaba et du Sud Kivu. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) l'établissement de partenariats pour la protection des enfants entre les compagnies minières, les autorités locales ainsi que les communautés, 2) le renforcement des services de santé dans les communautés minières, 3) le développement des compétences et des capacités des dirigeants et groupes communautaires de négocier des mesures de protections pour les enfants et surveiller leur mise en œuvre. The project aims to offer grea...ter availability and use of primary health care services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH), such as maternal and newborn care, of women and girls in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project also contributes to strengthening management of health centres and access to SRH services by women and girls, including family planning, contraceptive methods and post-abortion care. Project activities include: (1) providing ongoing training to health care providers, taking into account the specific needs of women and girls, (2) purchasing medical and non-medical equipment, (3) strengthening the system for procuring medicines, and (4) supporting health care personnel in order to increase their capacity to promote best practices and raise community awareness in order to promote the health and rights of women and girls. / Le projet vise à offrir une meilleure disponibilité et utilisation des services de santé primaire, dont la santé sexuelle et reproductive (SSR) des femmes et des jeunes filles, y compris les soins aux mères et aux nouveau-nés à Kinshasa en République démocratique du Congo (RDC). Le projet contribue aussi à renforcer la gestion des centres de santé et l'accès à des services de SSR des femmes et des jeunes filles, incluant la planification familiale, les méthodes contraceptives et les soins post-avortement. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) fournir une formation continue à des prestataires de soins en tenant compte des besoins spécifiques des femmes et des filles, 2) faire l'acquisition d'équipement médical et non médical, 3) renforcer le mécanisme d'approvisionnement en médicaments, 4) accompagnement du personnel de la santé afin d'accroître leur capacité à promouvoir des pratiques exemplaires et de faire de la sensibilisation au sein de leur communauté afin de promouvoir la santé et les droits des femmes et des filles.

The project aims to meet the n...eeds of pre-adolescents and adolescents in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with respect to comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services that are gender-specific and adapted to their reality. To do so, the network of school and local community organizations has become involved to maximize awareness and engagement of key players. The project focuses on promoting and supporting positive and healthy social norms in order to encourage respectful, equitable and sustainable behaviours. Project activities include: (1) developing educational and promotional materials on positive norms of gender equality and sexual and reproductive health services and rights that take into account the adolescents' age and gender, (2) setting up school clubs for adolescents attending school and community space for youth, (3) adapting and improving the quality of SRH services in health centres to meet the needs of adolescents, and (4) establishing and strengthening child and youth protection committees comprised of community members. / Le projet vise à répondre aux besoins des préadolescents et des adolescents, filles et garçons, en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) en matière d'éducation complète à la sexualité et des services de santé sexuelle et reproductive (SSR) adaptés à leur réalité et sensibles au genre. Pour ce faire, le réseau d'organisations communautaires locales et scolaires est impliqué afin de maximiser la sensibilisation et la mobilisation des acteurs clés. Ce projet se concentre sur la promotion et le soutien de normes sociales positives et saines afin d'encourager des comportements respectueux, équitables et durables. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) l'élaboration de matériel éducatif et promotionnel sur les normes positives de l'égalité des genres, de la SSR et les droits connexes, qui tient compte de l'âge et du genre des adolescents (filles et garçons), 2) mise en place de clubs scolaires pour les adolescents (filles et garçons) scolarisés ainsi que d'espaces communautaires pour les jeunes, 3) l'adaptation et l'amélioration de la qualité des services en SSR dans les centres de santé afin de répondre aux besoins des adolescent(e)s, 4) l'établissement et le renforcement de comités de protection des enfants et des jeunes composés de membres de la communauté.

The project aims to prevent an...d respond to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) - such as sexual harassment, intimidation, early marriage and rape - as well as to unhealthy practices. It aims to improve the holistic management of survivors through multisectoral integrated service centres (MISC). The MISCs would make medical, psychosocial, legal and socioeconomic reintegration or school re-entry services available to girls and young women who are survivors of SGBV. Not only does the project contribute to SGBV prevention and to promote the rights of girls and women through a national campaign for change in social behaviours, but it also promotes a communication and engagement strategy for men and boys to change their behaviours and perceptions on sexual and gender-based violence. Project activities include: (1) community outreach and youth engagement, (2) strengthening community-based protection networks, (3) establishing the MISCs, (4) strengthening the capacity of lawyers and legal defenders, (5) developing initiatives that encourage female entrepreneurship and the socioeconomic reintegration of survivors or re-entry of underage victims into the school system, and (6) strengthening national coordination in the fight against SGBV. / Le projet vise à prévenir et à répondre aux violences sexuelles et basées sur le genre (VSBG) - telles que le harcèlement sexuel, l'intimidation, le mariage précoce, le viol - et les pratiques malsaines. Il vise l'amélioration de la prise en charge holistique des survivantes via les centres de services intégrés multisectoriels (CSIM). Ces derniers permettent d'offrir des services médicaux, psychosociaux, juridiques et de réinsertion socioéconomique ou scolaire aux filles et aux jeunes femmes survivantes de VSBG. Non seulement, le projet contribue à la prévention des VSBG et à la promotion des droits des filles et des femmes à travers une campagne nationale de changement des comportements sociaux, mais une stratégie de communication et d'engagement des hommes et des garçons pour les changements de comportement et de perception à l'égard de la violence sexuelle et sexiste est aussi mis de l'avant. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) la sensibilisation auprès des communautés et la mobilisation des jeunes, 2) le renforcement des réseaux de protection communautaire, 3) la mise en place des CSIM, 4) le renforcement des capacités des avocats et défenseurs judiciaires, 5) le développement d'initiatives en faveur de l'entrepreneuriat féminin et la réintégration socio-économique des survivantes ou de la réintégration scolaire des victimes mineures, 6) le renforcement de la coordination nationale de la lutte contre les VSBG.

This project will help the Inn...ovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA) program establish a communications and evaluation fund. It will also support the program in carrying out strategic, bilingual communications and knowledge translation activities, as well as monitor and evaluate its work. Improving maternal and child health IMCHA will improve maternal, newborn, and child health by using primary health care as an entry point to strengthen health systems, ensuring they are more equitable. The program is supporting 20 implementation research teams. The teams will generate new knowledge about how interventions work, for whom, and under what conditions, to ensure that mothers and their children have better access to the care they need. To promote the uptake of research findings so that they influence national and regional policies and practices, IMCHA is supporting two health policy and research organizations. These organizations are working closely with the implementation research teams. Communicating innovation and results This project establishes a communications and evaluation fund for the program. It will help facilitate administration of a budget line in the IMCHA program budget that was established and approved by its three funders: IDRC, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, for the program's duration (2014-2020). The funds will allow IMCHA to communicate its approach and results, while helping to ensure that they are clearly understood and adopted by target audiences. The communications activities are listed in the IMCHA Communication Plan. The project will also allow the program to prepare for the IMCHA evaluations, and finance the mid-term and final evaluations.
