This project aims to enhance i...nclusive democratic development in Burma by strengthening citizen engagement, deepening trust and understanding of democratic systems, and building the capacity of communities to participate in their own development. The project targets over 320 ,000 people in Burma and 110,000 Burmese refugees outside the country.Activities include: (1) organizing workshops on human rights, including women's rights; (2) training media workers from ethnic minority media organizations; (3) supporting the production of publications on key development issues (human rights, environmental protection, gender equality, etc.); (4) training community-level basic health workers to improve decentralized health service delivery; (5) supporting multi-stakeholder consultations to share experiences on participatory, community-based and decentralized health care delivery; (6) training refugees and internally displaced people in entrepreneurship, livelihood skills and democratic governance to facilitate reintegration into Burma; and (7) supporting small-scale locally-initiated projects in Burma to strengthen community capacity to implement development activities using democratic approaches./ Ce projet vise à accroître le développement démocratique inclusif en Birmanie en augmentant la participation des citoyens, en accroissant la confiance et la compréhension à l'égard des systèmes démocratiques et en renforçant la capacité des collectivités à participer à leur propre développement. Le projet vise plus de 320 000 personnes en Birmanie et 110 000 réfugiés birmans à l'extérieur du pays.Les activités du projet comprennent: 1) organiser des ateliers sur les droits de la personne, y compris les droits de la femme; 2) donner de la formation à des travailleurs des médias provenant d'organisations médiatiques de minorités ethniques; 3) appuyer la production de publications sur d'importantes questions de développement (notamment les droits de la personne, la protection de l'environnement et l'égalité entre les sexes); 4) donner de la formation à des travailleurs de la santé communautaire pour améliorer la prestation de services décentralisés de santé de base; 5) appuyer les consultations entre de multiples intervenants pour partager les expériences en matière de livraison de soins de santé communautaire, dans un cadre participatif et décentralisé; 6) donner une formation à des réfugiés et à des personnes déplacées à l'intérieur de leur propre pays sur l'entrepreneuriat, les compétences nécessaires pour assurer leur subsistance et la gouvernance démocratique afin de faciliter leur réintégration en Birmanie; 7) soutenir des projets locaux à petite échelle en Birmanie pour renforcer la capacité communautaire à mettre en œuvre des activités de développement à l'aide d'approches démocratiques.

This project aims to enhance i...nclusive democratic development in Burma by strengthening citizen engagement, deepening trust and understanding of democratic systems, and building the capacity of communities to participate in their own development. The project seeks to identify and address the key causes of chronic unemployment, underemployment, and poverty of women and men with disabilities in Dhaka, Bangladesh; Hyderabad, India; and Kathmandu, Nepal. It focuses on three sectors that employ a proportionally large number of people with disabilities: cottage or home-based industries, the hospitality sector, and food processing. The project seeks to influence small and medium enterprises to hire and promote people with disabilities, as well as increase the employability of persones with disabilities.It supports 300 employers in offering work placements for people with disabilities, thereby providing positive models for other employers in the target countries./ Le projet vise à aider 10 000 hommes et femmes handicapés à trouver des emplois durables et à accroître le revenu de leur ménage. The project aims to improve th...e well-being of women and girls through evidence-based gender-sensitive policy and programming recommendations on sustaining and scaling up innovations for food and nutrition security. It reviews and learns from the experience of the sub-projects funded under the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) Phase 2 project, with special attention to their sustainability and prospects for scaling up, as well as their positive impact on women's empowerment and gender equality. Findings are disseminated to stakeholders of the six sub-projects , as well as to policy-makers in Canada, development partners, and governments of low- and middle-income countries. Data is collected through field visits to six of the CIFSRF sub-projects, interviews with sub-project leaders, and review of secondary material for other projects in the portfolio of the 18 sub-projects funded by CIFSRF. / Le projet vise à améliorer le bien-être des femmes et des filles au moyen de politiques fondées sur des données probantes et tenant compte des sexospécificités ainsi qu'au moyen de recommandations en matière de programmes visant à soutenir et à étendre la portée d'innovations qui favorisent la sécurité alimentaire et nutritionnelle. Le projet passe en revue et tire des leçons de l'expérience des sous-projets financés par le Fonds canadien de recherche sur la sécurité alimentaire internationale (FCRSAI) dans le cadre de la phase 2, en accordant une attention particulière à la viabilité et aux perspectives d'expansion des sous-projets ainsi qu'à leur impact positif sur l'autonomisation des femmes et l'égalité des sexes. Les données sont recueillies au moyen de visites sur le terrain dans six des sous-projets financés par le FCRSAI, d'entrevues avec les chefs de sous-projets et de l'examen des documents secondaires d'autres projets du portefeuille des 18 sous-projets financés par le FCRSAI. This project aims to improve t...he well-being and resilience of communities living in earthquake-affected areas of Sindhupalchok, Nepal, by meeting their needs for potable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services and practices. Supporting increased access to WASH services in Sindhupalchok will not only help the district recover from damage, but also contribute to reaching a level of WASH development that is improved from pre-earthquake levels. Improving access to WASH services in Sindhupalchok will also provide an opportunity to make them more equitable and inclusive, and to ensure that they are resistant to future natural disasters. Project activities include: (1) increasing the equitable access of households and institutions (schools and health posts) to WASH services by rehabilitating and/or constructing appropriate infrastructure; (2) increasing the capacity of individuals and organizations in the community to operate and maintain the infrastructure and to promote the use of good hygiene practices; (3) increasing resilience to future shocks through 'build back better', and extending coverage to a greater number of beneficiaries.The project directly benefits 15,290 men, women (51%) and children in Sindhupalchowk, one of the districts most severely affected by the earthquakes.Oxfam Canada is working with Gramin Mahila Sirjansil Pariwar (GMSP), Mahila Atma Nirbharta Kendra (MANK), and Janahit Gramin Sewa Samiti (JGSS) to implement this project./Le but du projet est d'améliorer le bien-être et la résilience des collectivités situées dans les secteurs de Sindhupalchok (Népal) qui ont été touchés par le séisme en répondant aux besoins de leurs habitants en matière de services et de pratiques relatifs à l'eau potable, à l'assainissement et à l'hygiène. The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad, needed to launch successful careers.Solidarity Union Cooperation's (SUCO) initiative provides 30 interns with the opportunity to work in four countries: Senegal, Peru, Honduras and Nicaragua. Interns work directly with 18 local partners through market gardening, marketing, education, business management, nutrition, rural entrepreneurship, social marketing, and organizational development activities./Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), financé par la Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada, sous le volet Objectif carrière. This project is part of DFATD'...s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), which is within the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP is designed to offer young Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience through international development work.The Comité de Solidarité Trois-Rivières sends 37 young Canadians in four countries (Senegal, Mali, Haiti and Nicaragua) to work in the education, health, environment and governance sectors. The young Canadians will support various community based initiatives that aim to improve poor people's living conditions, mostly by increasing women's income and improving theirs and their children's health. The project contributes to increasing the employability of young participants, providing them the skills and knowledge they need to secure employment upon their return to Canada./ Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), qui est relié au programme de Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada. Le PSIJ vise à offrir aux jeunes Canadiens titulaires d'un diplôme postsecondaire la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle en participant au développement international.Le Comité de Solidarité Trois-Rivières permet l'envoi de 37 jeunes canadiens dans 4 pays (Sénégal, Mali, Haiti et Nicaragua) afin de travailler dans les secteurs de l'éducation, de la santé, l'environnement et de la gouvernance. Les jeunes Canadiens appuieront différentes initiatives communautaires visant à améliorer les conditions de vie des populations appauvries, principalement en visant à accroître le revenu des femmes, et à améliorer l'état de santé des femmes et des enfants. Le projet contribue à augmenter l'employabilité des jeunes participants, en leur permettant de développer des compétences et d'acquérir de nouvelles connaissances qui les prépareront à obtenir un emploi à leur retour au Canada.

The program aims to improve food security and sustainable economic growth by focusing on: (1) training of beneficiaries in agriculture; (2) agricultural and livestock production; (3) marketing and entrepreneurship for market development; (4) job creation and income generation; (5) nutrition, sanitation and protection of natural resources; and (6) organizational development for participation and mobilization of development actors. The program also supports a public engagement program to form a body of Canadian citizens who are educated, informed and engaged./ Ce programme de coopération volontaire permet d'envoyer 190 conseillers volontaires en mission. This project supports the Worl...d Food Programme's (WFP) school feeding program. Over the past four decades, WFP has become the world's foremost provider of school meals to poor children. In addition to providing free midday meals, WFP provides students with take-home rations for the family, which encourages parents to send their boys and girls to class. School feeding initiatives target the most food-insecure areas of countries with low school enrolment, irregular school attendance, and high primary school drop-out rates.GAC's support to WFP's school meal program is used to purchase, deliver and distribute nutritious food primarily to school children, particularly girls. School feeding is a means of increasing enrolment and attendance rates, decreasing drop-out rates, and improving children's concentration, learning and academic performance./Ce projet appuie le programme d'alimentation en milieu scolaire du Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM). Au cours des quatre dernières décennies, le PAM est devenu le principal fournisseur mondial de repas scolaires aux enfants pauvres. En plus de fournir des repas gratuits à l'école, le PAM offre aux élèves des rations qu'ils peuvent rapporter à la maison, ce qui encourage les parents à envoyer leurs enfants à l'école. Les initiatives d'alimentation en milieu scolaire ciblent les régions des pays où l'insécurité alimentaire est la plus grave, la fréquentation scolaire, irrégulière et le taux d'abandon au niveau primaire, élevé.Les fonds octroyés par AMC au programme de repas scolaires du PAM servent à l'achat, à la livraison et à la distribution d'aliments nutritifs destinés principalement aux écoliers, particulièrement les filles. Le programme d'alimentation en milieu scolaire permet d'augmenter les taux d'inscription et de présence, de diminuer le taux d'abandon et d'améliorer la concentration, l'apprentissage et le rendement scolaire des enfants.

The Canadian International Foo...d Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) supports applied research projects that address food security challenges in the developing world. It is jointly funded, coordinated, and implemented in collaboration with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and uses the combined expertise of both organizations to maximize the impact of the projects funded. Through investments in applied research, the CIFSRF contributes to the development of more productive, sustainable, and gender-sensitive agricultural techniques for women subsistence farmers, with the ultimate goal of making food sources more secure and accessible, and the food produced more nutritious, for poor households. Women and girls are particularly targeted by this project since they face the heaviest burden of chronic hunger and malnutrition in developing countries.The objectives of the CIFSRF are: (1) to increase food security in developing countries by funding applied research in agricultural development and nutrition; (2) to apply Canadian science and technology expertise in collaboration with developing country partners to address food security; (3) to use research results to inform food security policies and programs; and (4) to identify innovations and scale up the most promising research from both Phase I and Phase II of the Fund to help meet future global food demand. Phase II focuses geographically on the 20 countries already targeted under Phase I as well as all other official development assistance-eligible countries in Africa.Project activities for phase II include: (1) developing farming methods that can better withstand the effects of climate change; (2) developing environmentally sustainable gender-sensitive, farmer-led research models for breeding and distribution of new crops or underutilized traditional crops and consumption of sufficient, safe and nutritious food; (3) improving family-based aquaculture; (4) decreasing domestic animal losses through development of vaccines; and (5) reducing post-harvest losses through adaptable and affordable technologies.Partnership is an important aspect of the CIFSRF and all the research projects funded are jointly conducted by Canadian and developing country-based organizations, such as academic institutions, private sector organizations, civil society organizations, or research institutions. Project activities seek to increase market access, generate employment and improve nutrition for vulnerable women and children./ L'initiative vise à améliorer la vie de 10,000 ménages pauvres (environ 80 000 personnes) pratiquant l'agriculture à petite échelle grâce à une croissance économique axée sur l'agriculture. La mise en place de programmes de formation et d'appui technique permet d'accroitre les rendements agricoles pour les chaînes de valeur des marchandises et du bétail appuyées par le projet, d'augmenter l'accès aux marchés, de créer des emplois et d'améliorer la nutrition des enfants et des femmes vulnérables. This initiative aims to improv...e the lives and incomes of 10,000 poor and vulnerable farming households (approximately 80,000 people) through agriculture-driven economic growth. The project is providing training and related technical support in modern farming methods to farmers in order to increase yields for selected commodity and livestock value chains. The project also aims to improve the business environment to make it more favourable for farmers, women and youth. Project activities seek to increase market access, generate employment and improve nutrition for vulnerable women and children./ L'initiative vise à améliorer la vie de 10,000 ménages pauvres (environ 80 000 personnes) pratiquant l'agriculture à petite échelle grâce à une croissance économique axée sur l'agriculture. La mise en place de programmes de formation et d'appui technique permet d'accroitre les rendements agricoles pour les chaînes de valeur des marchandises et du bétail appuyées par le projet, d'augmenter l'accès aux marchés, de créer des emplois et d'améliorer la nutrition des enfants et des femmes vulnérables. Le projet permet également d'améliorer l'environnement des affaires pour le rendre plus favorable pour les petits agriculteurs, les femmes et les jeunes.

The goal of this project is to... provide women livestock farmers with greater access to and control of economic resources. It aims to increase the productivity of the dairy sector in three districts of southern Punjab in a way that creates opportunities for women to contribute more equitably to the sector.The project supports activities in three main areas:i) The project aims to strengthen 100 existing dairy cooperatives (Farmers' Milk Cooperatives) and establish up to 250 new cooperatives. Activities in this area include: providing the cooperatives with modern milk processing equipment; training farmers in modern techniques for breeding and raising livestock; and establishing local support services such as veterinary workers, artificial insemination technicians, and milk marketing specialists.ii) The project aims to increase the contribution of women livestock farmers to the dairy sector. Activities in this area include: providing the poorest women with assets such as buffalos, barns, feed mixers, and water troughs; providing training on how to use and manage these new assets; and providing training for female executives of the cooperatives to help them become more widely involved across the dairy sector.iii) The project aims to facilitate the creation of connections between farmers, cooperatives, the private sector, and the government. Activities in this area include: poster campaigns to increase the visibility of the cooperatives; media and communications campaigns to engage potential private sector partners for farmers and the cooperatives; and expanding the ability of the cooperatives and the government to provide local educational and advisory services that meet the needs of the dairy sector.The project is expected to benefit up to 12,250 dairy farmers and their families./ Ce projet vise à donner aux agricultrices qui élèvent du bétail un meilleur accès aux ressources économiques et un contrôle accru sur celles-ci. Il vise à accroître la productivité du secteur laitier dans trois districts dans le Panjab du sud pour offrir aux femmes la possibilité de contribuer de façon plus équitable à ce secteur.Le projet appuie des activités dans trois domaines clés suivants :i) Le projet vise à renforcer 100 coopératives laitières existantes (coopératives agricoles laitières) et à créer jusqu'à 250 nouvelles coopératives. Le projet vise notamment à munir les coopératives d'équipement moderne de transformation du lait; à enseigner aux agriculteurs les techniques modernes de reproduction et d'élevage du bétail; à mettre en place des services d'appui locaux (travailleurs vétérinaires, techniciens de l'insémination artificielle et spécialistes de la mise en marché du lait).ii) Le projet vise à accroître la contribution des agricultrices qui élèvent du bétail au secteur laitier. This project aims to increase ...women's participation in informal and formal economic activities by providing them with financial literacy training and access to business development services. In the long-term, by providing women with skills and knowledge that help them make financial decisions, this project enables low-income households to raise their incomes, increase their savings, and reduce their vulnerability to future economic shocks. It also helps these households to better provide for their children and access services such as education and health care.The project provides training for women on savings, budgeting, debt management, and financial transactions. Through the creation of business incubation labs across the country, it also provides women with training in business development and management skills. In addition, the project supports the development of public service messages and television episodes to educate the general population about financial decision-making, plus theatre programs to promote women's rights and increased acceptance of their economic contribution to the household./ Ce projet vise à augmenter la participation des femmes à des activités économiques officielles et non officielles en leur donnant une formation sur la littératie financière et accès à des services de développement des affaires. À long terme, ce projet permet aux ménages à faible revenu d'augmenter leurs revenus, d'accroître leurs économies et de diminuer leur vulnérabilité face aux chocs économiques futurs, en permettant aux femmes d'acquérir des compétences et des connaissances qui les aident à prendre des décisions financières. En plus, le projet aide ces ménages à mieux subvenir aux besions de leurs enfants et à accéder à des services, tels que l'éducation et les soins de santé.Dans le cadre de ce projet, les femmes peuvent suivre une formation sur l'épargne, l'établissement du budget, la gestion de la dette et les transactions financières. La mise sur pied de centres d'incubation d'entreprises à l'échelle du pays permet aussi aux femmes d'en apprendre sur la création d'entreprises et les compétences en gestion. De plus, le projet soutient la préparation de messages d'intérêt public et d'épisodes télévisés visant à sensibiliser le grand public à la prise de décision financière, ainsi que de programmes de théâtre visant à faire valoir les droits des femmes et l'acceptation accrue de leur contribution économique au sein du ménage.

The project aims to improve hu...man development outcomes in Africa and Asia through four components: (i) strengthening health systems in Central Asia to ensure that people have access to quality health care and information provided by qualified staff in well-equipped facilities; (ii) strengthening education systems in eastern Africa to improve the quality of education for students at the pre-primary and primary school levels; (iii) improving the ability of civil society organizations in Africa and Asia to promote gender equality, integrate climate change adaptation in their programming, and develop innovative means of helping people improve their livelihoods; and (iv) helping Canadians become more aware of and involved in international development.The project supports a regional approach to strengthening health and education systems by engaging partner agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network in Africa and Asia. It also works in partnership with local governments and civil society organizations./ Le projet vise à améliorer les résultats en matière de développment humain en Afrique et en Asie et il est composé de quatre volets: (i) le renforcement des systèmes de santé en Asie centrale pour assurer que les personnes aient accès à de l'information et des soins de santé de qualité fournis par un personnel qualifié et des installations bien équipées, (ii) le renforcement des systèmes d'éducation en Afrique de l'Est pour améliorer la qualité de l'éducation des élèves du préscolaire et du primaire, (iii) l'amélioration de la capacité des organisations de la société civile en Afrique et en Asie à promouvoir l'égalité entre les sexes et à intégrer l'adaptation au changement climatique dans leur programmation tout en développant des moyens novateurs pour aider les personnes à améliorer leurs moyens de subsistance, (iv) la sensibilisation et la mobilisation accrues des Canadiens au développement international.Le projet soutient une approche régionale pour renforcer les systèmes de santé et d'éducation en engageant les agences partenaires du réseau de développement d'Aga Khan en Afrique et en Asie.
