This initiative is a key eleme...nt of the assistance provided by Canada to contribute to Mali reaching its development goals in the health sector, particularly in improving maternal, newborn and child health. It mainly aims to support the Ministry of Health of Mali in implementing is Ten-Year Health and Social Development Plan 2014-2023. As is the case for all budget support initiatives, Canada is working closely with other donors and the Government of Mali to improve the emphasis on accountability, transparency and effectiveness of national systems by increasing coordination and harmonization among donors and strengthening mutual accountability. Budgetary support also fosters greater policy dialogue between donors, government and partners, which helps to reinforce efforts to provide targeted and effective help and get results from long-term development. Monitoring and continuous evaluation of this initiative are made in conjunction with other donors. / Cette initiative constitue un élément fondamental de l'aide fournie par le Canada au Mali pour qu'il atteigne les objectifs de développement dans le secteur de la santé, particulièrement en matière d'amélioration de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants. Elle vise essentiellement à appuyer le ministère de la Santé du Mali dans sa mise en oeuvre du Plan décennal de développement sanitaire et social 2014-2023. The project aims to improve ac...cess for Malians to quality basic health services that are environmentally friendly and meet their needs, especially those of women, newborns, children and youth. It focuses on the regions of Kayes, Segou and Sikasso and seeks to provide, annually, access to quality health care to about 900,000 women of childbearing age, which represents 46% of the target population. The project provides support to nearly 150 local health centers to improve their health infrastructure and treatment of biomedical waste.Among the activities: 1) support the regional authorities for the effective integration of good health management practices in the public health strategies; 2) accompany the Malian institutions in the sustainable construction or rehabilitation of 150 water supply infrastructures for health centers (drilling, network, supply systems) and access points to water (sinks, washbasins and showers in the treatment and childbirth rooms); 3) develop maintenance plans for infrastructure and equipment; 4) train 450 members of the maintenance staff in hygiene standards and disposal of biomedical waste (transport, storage and use of tanks and incinerators); 5) educate users to the promotion of hygiene and good environmental practices; 6) train technicians in hygiene and routine maintenance of water points and latrines, while taking into account the specific needs of mothers and children, 7) train managers, nursing staff and 33 regional trainers in hygiene as well as management and recycling of biomedical waste; and 8) equip 150 health centers with solar energy systems and ensure their sustainability.This project is part of Canada's commitment to the health of mothers, newborns and children./ Le projet vise à améliorer l'accès des Maliens à des services de santé de base de qualité, respectueux de l'environnement et qui répondent à leurs besoins, particulièrement à ceux des femmes, des nouveau-nés, des enfants et des jeunes. This project aims to reduce th...e absolute poverty of Mozambican women, men, girls and boys by improving access to quality education. The project represents Canada s contribution to Mozambique s Education Sector Support Fund, a pooled fund involving collaboration between ten bilateral and multilateral partners and the Government of Mozambique s Ministry of Education. The pooled fund focuses on a number of issues identified in the Government of Mozambique s Strategic Plan for Education including: access to and quality of education, and improving the institutional capacity of Mozambique s education sector at the central, provincial, district, and school levels. The Strategic Plan for Education involves eight distinct sub-sectors: (i) primary education; (ii) secondary education; (iii) technical and vocational education; (iv) higher education (post-secondary); (v) literacy and adult education; (vi) administrative and institutional development; (vii) school construction; and (viii) cross-cutting themes, such as gender equality, school health and HIV/AIDS, school production and feeding, and school sports. / Ce projet vise à réduire la pauvreté absolue chez les femmes et les hommes, les filles et les garçons du Mozambique en améliorant leur accès à une éducation de qualité. Le projet représente la contribution du Canada au Fonds commun pour le secteur de l éducation du Mozambique, qui fait appel à la collaboration entre dix partenaires bilatéraux et multilatéraux ainsi que le ministère de l Éducation du Mozambique. Le fonds commun cible un certain nombre de questions définies dans le Plan stratégique du secteur de l éducation du gouvernement du Mozambique, notamment l accès à l éducation, la qualité de l éducation et l amélioration de la capacité institutionnelle du secteur de l éducation du Mozambique dans au niveau national, provincial et des districts ainsi que dans les écoles. Le plan stratégique pour l éducation fait appel à huit sous-secteurs distincts : i) enseignement primaire; ii) enseignement secondaire; iii) formation technique et professionnelle; iv) enseignement supérieur (postsecondaire); v) alphabétisation et éducation des adultes; vi) développement administratif et institutionnel; vii) construction d écoles; viii) thèmes transversaux, comme l égalité entre les sexes, la santé en milieu scolaire, le VIH/sida, le rendement de l école et les cantines scolaires, ainsi que le sport en milieu scolaire.

Results achieved
Results achieved as of December 2013 include: (i) the student-teacher ratio went from 1:74 in 2005 to 1:63; (ii) the gross enrolment rate in secondary education (eighth grade) is 48%, up from 21.4% in 2005; (iii) the enrolment rate of six-year olds in grade one increased from 69.7% in 2011 to 77% (75% girls) in 2013; and (iv) the Ministry of Education implemented multi-year planning in 2012 to improve planning and financial management and progress is being noted with respect to planning and financial management. These have contributed to increased enrolment at all levels and improved delivery of education in Mozambique resulting in Mozambican boys and girls receiving a better quality education that improves their chances of escaping absolute poverty.

Substantial progress has been made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. However, this progress often conceals widening disparities in given countries or regions. This project aims to address health disparities and gaps in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), by prioritizing interventions identified as critical to advancing progress in reducing child mortality.Project activities include: (1) conduct and analyse research on health needs and solutions for mothers and children; (2) review and enhance existing policies and guidelines to improve MNCH; (3) develop and provide training on gender responsive MNCH interventions, on civil registration and vital statistics systems, and on health information management system; (4) test and implement models to address gaps in MNCH; (5) develop and deliver community awareness campaigns to increase knowledge on MNCH interventions; and (6) procure and distribute critical health supplies.This project is part of Canada's commitment for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health./ Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité infantile dans les régions ciblées et à venir en aide à quelque 452 345 femmes et 3 740 379 enfants. The project aims to accelerate... the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality in 15 states and the federal capital territory of Nigeria. It is designed to strengthen the delivery of maternal, newborn and child health services through evidence-based, gender-responsive interventions, using existing health and community structures in the focus states. It also supports the procurement and distribution of equipment such as newborn resuscitation devices, HIV testing kits, communication equipment, and reproductive health supplies to cover 60% of the annual requirements of these states. Finally, the project provides technical and financial support to enhance the skills of health workers - midwives, doctors and Community Health Extension Workers - through updating training guidelines under the Midwifery Services Schemes, the Community Health Extension Workers Program and doctors serving in the Nigeria Youth Service Corps. The project is implemented in alignment with the Government of Nigeria's Integrated Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Strategy. The project is implemented by UNICEF in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à accélérer la réduction de la mortalité maternelle, néonatale et infantile dans 15 États et le territoire de la capitale fédérale du Nigéria. Il est conçu pour renforcer la prestation de services de santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants grâce à des interventions basées sur des preuves et tenant compte des sexospécificités, à l'aide des structures communautaires et sanitaires existantes dans les États ciblés. Il apporte également un soutien à l'achat et la distribution d'équipements tels que des appareils de réanimation de nouveau-nés, des trousses de dépistage du VIH, de l'équipement de communication et des fournitures de santé reproductive pour couvrir 60 % des besoins annuels de ces États. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à accélérer la réduction de la mortalité maternelle, néonatale et infantile dans 15 États et le territoire de la capitale fédérale du Nigéria. Il est conçu pour renforcer la prestation de services de santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants grâce à des interventions basées sur des preuves et tenant compte des sexospécificités, à l'aide des structures communautaires et sanitaires existantes dans les États ciblés. Il apporte également un soutien à l'achat et la distribution d'équipements tels que des appareils de réanimation de nouveau-nés, des trousses de dépistage du VIH, de l'équipement de communication et des fournitures de santé reproductive pour couvrir 60 % des besoins annuels de ces États. Enfin, le projet fournit un appui technique et financier pour renforcer les compétences des travailleurs de la santé - sages-femmes, médecins et travailleurs de santé communautaire - en mettant à jour les lignes directrices de formation du Plan de service des sages-femmes, du Programme des travailleurs de santé communautaire et des médecins oeuvrant au sein du corps de la jeunesse du Nigéria. Le projet s'inscrit dans le cadre de la Stratégie intégrée en santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile du gouvernement du Nigéria. This project seeks to improve ...the health of infants, children, women and men in Bauchi and Cross River States and reduce deaths. The project aims to increase the quantity and quality of frontline health care workers, such as midwives, nurses, and community health workers, in order to improve the delivery of maternal, newborn and child health care services for 1.9 million pregnant women and mothers and 1.7 million children under five. It also seeks to build the capacity of Nigeria's Ministry of Health to support the states in meeting national health standards. The project also seeks to reduce the overall burden of disease in Bauchi and Cross River States.Some project activities include: (i) improving the ability of 11 training centres to effectively train frontline health care workers; (ii) providing assistance to support ministries of health, professional associations and regulators to better manage the frontline health care workforce; and (iii) improving the ability of ministries of health to develop, implement and manage evidence-based health policies and programs that allow for better long-term deployment and management of frontline health care workers.The project is implemented in collaboration with the Population Council and the Global Health Workforce Alliance./ Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des nouveau-nés, des enfants, des femmes et des hommes dans les États de Bauchi et de Cross River et réduire la mortalité. Le projet cherche à accroître la quantité et la compétence des travailleurs de la santé de première ligne, tels que les sages-femmes, les infirmières et les travailleurs de santé communautaire, afin d'améliorer la prestation des services de santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile pour rejoindre 1,9 millions de femmes enceintes et de mères et 1,7 millions d'enfants de moins de cinq ans. Il vise également à renforcer les capacités du ministère de la Santé du Nigéria à soutenir les États dans le respect des normes sanitaires nationales. The project aims to improve pe...ople's health by rapidly increasing polio immunity and the availability of basic maternal, newborn and child health services in 2,500 hard-to-reach settlements in Jigawa, Niger, Zamfara and Taraba states in northern Nigeria. The project seeks to hire, train, supervise and monitor 50 mobile health teams (with 250 health workers) to procure and deliver polio vaccines. This is expected to strengthen rural health systems and support active surveillance of polio and other diseases. The mobile health teams also provide other health interventions to boost overall health, address urgent health needs and help increase the acceptance of polio vaccination. These include: (1) providing vitamin A and multivitamins to address malnutrition in women and children; (2) providing treatment for pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and other vaccines against preventable diseases; (3) providing preventive health services for pregnant women, such as iron folate; and (4) providing health education on issues such as safe water and sanitation management, the benefits of exclusive breast-feeding, nutrition and maternal health.Project activities include: (1) immunizing children (0-59 months of age) against polio; (2) identifying priority target populations requiring polio immunization, including detailed health team plans, commodities, logistics requirements and a mobile outreach schedule; (3) preparing and producing protocols, training materials and health education materials for outreach teams and populations; (4) conducting community engagement activities to educate people on important health issues; and (5) demonstrating the effectiveness of the mobile outreach approach as a strategy to access hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations, to national, state and local governments for future government-supported scale-up by documenting performance, challenges, lessons learned and value for money.These activities will contribute to the ultimate outcome, now within reach, of eradicating polio in Nigeria./Le projet a pour but d'améliorer la santé des populations en augmentant rapidement l'immunité contre la poliomyélite et la disponibilité des services de santé maternelle, néonatale et infantile de base dans 2,500 communautés difficiles d'accès dans les États de Jigawa, du Niger, de Zamfara et de Taraba au nord du Nigéria. This project seeks to improvin...g the health of women, adolescent girls, mothers, newborns and children in under-served areas taking a community-based approach and working with local health authorities. All project countries have established meaningful health legislation, governance bodies, and in some instances, the necessary infrastructure. Due to weak quality, inclusiveness (e.g. youth-friendliness), and gender-responsiveness of health services delivery and health care management, service delivery, operationalization and increased access and utilization of maternal newborn child health/sexual and reproductive health services (MNCH/SRH) require support. Specific challenges include: 1) weak health seeking behaviour by disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalised women of child bearing age (WCBA) and their families; Particularly high MNCH/SRH risks exist for adolescent mothers and high rates of child, early, and forced marriage (CEFM); 3) WCBA's lack of decision-making capacity and low access to and control over social and economic assets due, to pervasive gender inequality; 4) inaccessible, fragmented and client-unfriendly health systems; 5) low numbers and inadequate skills of Community Health Workers and frontline workers to provide quality, gender responsive, adolescent friendly health care; and 6) irregular tracking and use of data by Ministry of Health, and poor accountability of health services to local communities. Project activities include: (1) raising awareness of local leaders, role models and various community groups on ongoing MNCH services, positive healthcare practices, including health care seeking behaviours; (2) training health care providers at both community and health facility levels on key MNCH interventions; (3) providing essential medicines and other medical supplies; (4) training health administrators and local health committees on planning, supervision and oversight of health resources and facilities; (5) training for health workers and drivers in referring patients requiring more advanced care at specialized facilities, including providing health facilities with mobile technology and vehicles to facilitate emergency transportation; (6) training and mentoring health care staff on improved data collection and reporting to inform local government resource planning; and, (7) implementing digital and media campaigns to raise awareness of Canadian public on global MNCH issues. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1 million women, more than 900,000 children under five years of age, and over 200,000 adolescent girls, as well as over 1.1 million men with improved MNCH services. An estimated 1.8 million individuals are expected to benefit from the initiative's results indirectly. Substantial progress has been made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. However, this progress often conceals widening disparities in given countries or regions. This project aims to address health disparities and gaps in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), by prioritizing interventions identified as critical to advancing progress in reducing child mortality.Project activities include: (1) conduct and analyse research on health needs and solutions for mothers and children; (2) review and enhance existing policies and guidelines to improve MNCH; (3) develop and provide training on gender responsive MNCH interventions, on civil registration and vital statistics systems, and on health information management system; (4) test and implement models to address gaps in MNCH; (5) develop and deliver community awareness campaigns to increase knowledge on MNCH interventions; and (6) procure and distribute critical health supplies.This project is part of Canada's commitment for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health./ Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité infantile dans les régions ciblées et à venir en aide à quelque 452 345 femmes et 3 740 379 enfants. Toutefois, ces progrès dissimulent souvent le fait qu'il existe des inégalités grandissantes dans certains pays ou certaines régions. Ce projet a pour objectif de corriger les inégalités et les écarts en matière de santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants (SMNE) en donnant la priorité aux interventions considérées comme essentielles pour accélérer les progrès en vue de réduire la mortalité infantile.Parmi les activités du projet : 1) effectuer des recherches afin d'étudier les besoins des mères et des enfants en matière de santé et de trouver des solutions pour y répondre; 2) examiner et parfaire les politiques et les lignes directrices existantes pour améliorer la SMNE; 3) élaborer et offrir de la formation sur les interventions axées sur l'égalité entre les sexes en matière de SMNE, sur les systèmes d'établissement des statistiques de l'état civil et d'enregistrement des faits d'état civil et sur les systèmes de gestion de l'information sur la santé; 4) mettre à l'essai et mettre en place des modèles visant à combler les écarts en SMNE; 5) élaborer et réaliser des campagnes de sensibilisation communautaire afin de mieux faire connaître les interventions en SMNE; 6) obtenir et distribuer des fournitures de santé essentielles.Ce projet s'inscrit dans l'engagement pris par le Canada à l'égard de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants.

The project aims to reduce chi...ld mortality in targeted regions benefitting an estimated 452,345 women and 3,740,379 children. Substantial progress has been made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. However, this progress often conceals widening disparities in given countries or regions. This project aims to address health disparities and gaps in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), by prioritizing interventions identified as critical to advancing progress in reducing child mortality. Project activities include: (1) conduct and analyse research on health needs and solutions for mothers and children; (2) review and enhance existing policies and guidelines to improve MNCH; (3) develop and provide training on gender responsive MNCH interventions, on civil registration and vital statistics systems, and on health information management system; (4) test and implement models to address gaps in MNCH; (5) develop and deliver community awareness campaigns to increase knowledge on MNCH interventions; and (6) procure and distribute critical health supplies. This project is part of Canada's commitment for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. / Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité infantile dans les régions ciblées et à venir en aide à quelque 452 345 femmes et 3 740 379 enfants. Des progrès importants ont été accomplis en vue d'atteindre l'Objectif du Millénaire pour le développement relatif à la réduction de la mortalité chez les enfants et à l'amélioration de la santé maternelle. Toutefois, ces progrès dissimulent souvent le fait qu'il existe des inégalités grandissantes dans certains pays ou certaines régions. Activities under the project include (1) support for the Senegalese government to develop and implement public policies, streamlined processes and tax incentives to stimulate growth in the agricultural and extractive sectors; (2) development and implementation of a national strategy to promote food security and nutrition; (3) development of instruments to effectively manage public spending; and (4) technical assistance in the form of advice, training and equipment for government employees. As with all budget support initiatives, Canada works in close cooperation with other donors and the Senegalese government to promote the accountability, transparency and effectiveness of national systems, to increase donor coordination and harmonization and to strengthen mutual accountability. This type of support also favours greater policy dialogue among donors, the government and partners, which in turn strengthens efforts to provide focused and effective aid, and to obtain long-term development results. This initiative seeks to impro...ving the health of women, adolescent girls, mothers, newborns and children in under-served areas taking a community-based approach and working with local health authorities. Activities include: (1) raising awareness of local leaders, role models and various community groups on ongoing MNCH services, positive healthcare practices, including health care seeking behaviours; (2) training health care providers at both community and health facility levels on key MNCH interventions; (3) providing essential medicines and other medical supplies; (4) training health administrators and local health committees on planning, supervision and oversight of health resources and facilities; (5) training for health workers and drivers in referring patients requiring more advanced care at specialized facilities, including providing health facilities with mobile technology and vehicles to facilitate emergency transportation; (6) training and mentoring health care staff on improved data collection and reporting to inform local government resource planning; and, (7) implementing digital and media campaigns to raise awareness of Canadian public on global MNCH issues. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1 million women, more than 900,000 children under five years of age, and over 200,000 adolescent girls, as well as over 1.1 million men with improved MNCH services. An estimated 1.8 million individuals are expected to benefit from the initiative's results indirectly. This project aims to improve t...he health services available to poor populations in Africa by supporting the implementation of the African Medical and Research Foundation's (AMREF) 2007-2017 Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan aims to address gaps in health systems by enhancing capacity and participation in the health sector. The first component of AMREF's Strategic Plan consists of strengthening health systems by: working with communities to improve the quality of front-line health services and access to those services, training health personnel, and influencing health policy and programming across Africa. The second component of the Strategic Plan consists of strengthening AMREF's ability to deliver its mandate, for example, by improving program design, management, monitoring and evaluation, and the ability to mobilize and manage financial resources. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, AMREF has country offices in Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. AMREF provides training and consulting support through a network that reaches nearly 42 countries across the continent. AMREF works with approximately 200 communities to improve the quality of health services and access to health services in isolated rural communities, slum areas, and conflict zones. Project activities ended in September 2012, but the project remains in operational status as an evaluation is being undertaken. / Ce projet vise à améliorer les services de santé à la disposition de populations pauvres en Afrique en appuyant la mise en oeuvre du Plan stratégique de 2007 à 2017 de la Fondation pour la médecine et la recherche en Afrique (AMREF). Ce plan stratégique vise à combler les lacunes dans les systèmes de santé en accroissant la capacité et la participation dans le secteur de la santé. Le premier volet du Plan stratégique de l'AMREF vise à renforcer les systèmes de santé en collaborant avec des collectivités pour accroitre la qualité des services de santé de première ligne et l'accès à ces services, en donnant de la formation à des travailleurs de la santé et en exerçant une influence sur les politiques et les programmes en matière de santé dans toute l'Afrique. Le deuxième volet du Plan stratégique consiste à renforcer la capacité de l'AMREF à remplir son mandat, par exemple en améliorant l'élaboration, la gestion, le suivi et l'évaluation des programmes ainsi que la capacité de mobiliser et de gérer des ressources financières. This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH.Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems.The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results./ Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants. This project aims to fill crit...ical financing gaps to improve reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) in high-burden countries by accelerating investments in health systems. The Health Systems Bond is issued by the World Bank and available for purchase by private investors. Capital generated from the proceeds is channeled as loans to countries eligible for funding from the Global Financing Facility (GFF) in support of Every Woman Every Child. DFATD's contribution helps lower the borrowing costs for GFF countries who wish to access the funds raised by the bonds in the form of performance-based financing. Project activities include: (1) training community health workers; and (2) improving health data systems; and (3) increasing investments in health by improving outreach to private sector. Strengthening health systems is an important part of Canada's efforts to improve RMNCH as strong systems are central to the delivery of quality essential services for women and children. / Ce projet vise à combler des lacunes cruciales sur le plan financier afin d'améliorer la santé génésique, maternelle, néonatale et infantile dans les pays lourdement touchés en accélérant les investissements dans les systèmes de santé. Les obligations pour les systèmes de santé, émises par la Banque mondiale, peuvent être achetées par des investisseurs privés. Le capital généré par les recettes est transformé en prêts aux pays admissibles à un financement du Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM) pour appuyer l'initiative « Chaque femme, chaque enfant ». La contribution du MAECD contribue à réduire les coûts d'emprunt des pays visés par le MFM qui souhaitent avoir accès aux fonds obtenus grâce aux obligations sous la forme d'un financement fondé sur le rendement. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) formation des travailleurs de la santé communautaire; 2) amélioration des systèmes de données sur la santé; 3) augmentation des investissements en santé au moyen d'une amélioration de la sensibilisation dans le secteur privé. This project aims to increase ...the survival of mothers, newborns and children by bringing life-saving health services directly to 350,000 people in 609 remote communities in Warrap State. These services are brought to communities using community volunteers, and more complicated cases referred to the nearest primary health care centres.Some project activities include: (i) staffing and equipping four mobile outreach clinics; (ii) training 1,511 community health volunteers in health promotion (breastfeeding, better nutrition, vaccinations, etc.); (iii) providing micronutrients to improve nutrition; (iv) delivering life-saving interventions for malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia to children under five, including distributing 116,000 insecticide-treated anti-malaria bed nets; (v) reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases by building and managing 170 safe drinking water-points and 5,000 household latrines, and; (vi) capacity building of the Warrap Ministry of Health and training of the South Sudan Red Cross to train and supervise volunteers and collaborate with the Ministry of Health.This project contributes to Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment./ Ce projet a pour objet d'améliorer la survie des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants en offrant des services de santé essentiels directement à 350 000 personnes dans 609 collectivités éloignées de l'État de Warrap. This project contributes to th...e long-term strengthening of the resilience of individuals, households, communities and essential social service delivery systems in targeted regions of Syria dealing with the effects of protracted conflict. Project activities include: (1) installing water pumping units and training of water technicians on water management practices and protocols; (2) training of health workers on communicable disease control, maternal and new born child health (MNCH) and health management; (3) establishing safe education spaces and training of teachers on active learning, early childhood education and psychosocial support; (4) providing various seeds, feed and veterinary kits for vulnerable livestock farmers; and (5) developing and delivering training materials in areas such as household electrical wiring. The project reach is 150,000 individuals through stabilized access to clean water supplies, increased access to quality health care services, increased engagement of farmers and production of local food, and improved access to education and psychosocial support for children and their families. / Ce projet contribue au renforcement à long terme de la résilience des personnes, des ménages, des collectivités et des systèmes de prestation de services sociaux essentiels dans des régions ciblées de la Syrie qui sont aux prises avec les effets du conflit prolongé. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) installation d'unités de pompage de l'eau et formation des techniciens de l'eau sur les pratiques et les protocoles de gestion de l'eau; 2) formation des travailleurs de la santé sur la lutte contre les maladies transmissibles, la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants et la gestion de la santé; 3) établissement d'espaces d'enseignement sécuritaires et formation d'enseignants sur l'apprentissage actif, l'éducation à la petite enfance et le soutien psychosocial; 4) distribution de diverses semences, d'aliments pour animaux et de trousses de soins vétérinaires à des éleveurs de bétail vulnérables; 5) élaboration et distribution dans certaines zones de documents de formation, notamment sur le câblage électrique domestique. Ce projet profite à 150 000 personnes grâce à un accès stabilisé à un approvisionnement en eau salubre, à un accès élargi à des services de soins de santé de qualité, à une participation accrue des agriculteurs, à une production plus grande d'aliments locaux et à un meilleur accès à une éducation et à un soutien psychosocial pour des enfants et leur famille.

This project builds upon Canad...a s existing support to the Government of Tanzania s Health Basket/Pool Fund. This project provides additional funding to accelerate efforts to improve maternal, newborn and child health in Tanzania. It is supporting the achievement of results of the Government of Tanzania s third Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSPIII). HSSPIII emphasizes the delivery of essential health services at the district level; reforming and strengthening regional and national referral hospitals; improving central support systems (including infrastructure, health management information systems, drug supplies, transport, and communications and information technology); dealing more effectively with issues in human resources for health; improving the level, appropriateness and sustainability of health care financing; promoting public private partnership; implementing the national strategy for combating HIV/AIDS; and improving government and development partner relations to improve harmonization and alignment of external and Tanzanian resources in a more effective partnership. The implementation of HSSPIII is improving the management and delivery of primary health care services such as the prevention and treatment of common illnesses to improve child survival and maternal health. Canada is one of several donors supporting the Government of Tanzania s basket/pooled fund for the health sector to improve service delivery and strengthen the health system overall. Since 2006, Canada has been working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Tanzania to focus on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increase donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthen mutual accountability. This support also fosters greater policy dialogue among donors, government, and partners, thus helping to strengthen efforts for effective, focussed aid, as well as long-term development results. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors. This project is part of Canada s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet consolide l appui existant entre le Canada et le fonds commun du gouvernement de la Tanzanie. The project aims to improve th...e health and nutritional status of mothers, newborns, and children under the age of five. The project is designed to respond to the needs of mothers and children by promoting better use community health services, better household nutrition practices, and improved disease prevention and treatment measures with a focus on malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia, and mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS. Specific activities include: training Ministry of Health workers in the improved design and delivery of maternal, newborn, and child health programs and services, and training health workers and community groups in the implementation of community education programs on nutrition, child feeding, and disease prevention. The project is expected to reach around 18,000 pregnant and lactating women and 159,000 children under five. World Vision Canada is working in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of Tanzania to implement this project. This project is part of Canada s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et l état nutritionnel des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants âgés de moins de cinq ans. Il a été conçu de façon à répondre aux besoins des mères et des enfants en assurant la promotion d une meilleure utilisation des services de santé communautaires et de meilleures pratiques nutritionnelles pour les ménages. Il vise également à améliorer la prévention des maladies et les traitements, en centrant les efforts sur le paludisme, la diarrhée, la pneumonie et la transmission du VIH/sida de la mère à l enfant. Les activités du projet comprennent la formation des travailleurs du ministère de la Santé sur une conception et une prestation améliorées des programmes et des services de santé destinés aux mères, aux nouveau-nés et aux enfants, et la formation des travailleurs en santé et des groupes communautaires relativement à la mise en oeuvre de programmes éducatifs communautaires sur la nutrition, l alimentation des enfants et la prévention des maladies. On s attend à ce qu environ 18 000 femmes enceintes ou qui allaitent et 159 000 enfants de moins de cinq ans bénéficient du projet. Vision mondiale Canada collabore avec le ministère de la Santé et du Bien-être social de la Tanzanie pour la mise en oeuvre du projet. Ce projet s inscrit dans l engagement du Canada à l égard de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants.

This project aims to improve t...he health and survival rates of pregnant women, newborns, and young children living in the Bushenyi and Rubirizi districts in southwest Uganda. It focuses on strengthening district health systems, improving health centres' delivery of services, community programming, and sharing project results and lessons learned. The project is designed to improve access for approximately 340,000 people, including 40,000 pregnant women and over 74,000 children under five to basic health services at more than 30 health centres, and train over 180 health centre staff and over 4,200 community health workers in preventive and critical care. Activities include: upgrading health centres' equipment; training community and health centre workers; encouraging early treatment for acute illness; and analyzing the project's results and sharing the Bushenyi model through the media and meetings with government planners. The University of Calgary is working in partnership with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology and the Bushenyi district local government to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. The maximum CIDA contribution to this project includes $10,000 for monitoring purposes. / Ce projet améliore la santé et les taux de survie des femmes enceintes, des nouveau-nés et des jeunes enfants qui vivent dans les districts de Bushenyi et Rubirizi dans le Sud-ouest de l'Ouganda. Il renforce les systèmes de santé au sein des districts, améliore la provision de services de santé et de programmation communautaire en matière de santé par ces centres, et partage les résultats et les leçons retenues du projet. Le projet améliore l'accès aux services de santé de base à environ 340 000 personnes, y compris 40 000 femmes enceintes et plus de 74 000 enfants de moins de cinq ans dans plus de 30 centres de santé. Le projet forme plus de 180 membres du personnel de centres de santé et plus de 4 200 travailleurs de la santé communautaire en les soins préventives et curatives. Les activités comprennent la mise à jour de l'équipement des centres de santé, la formation des travailleurs de la santé communautaire et des centres de santé, l'encouragement aux traitements précoces en matière de maladies graves, l'analyse des résultats du projet et le partage du modèle de Bushenyi par l'entremise des médias et de rencontres avec les planificateurs gouvernementaux. The project goal is to promote... the economic and social development of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) member states by strengthening the CARICOM's capacity to promote the regional integration process. This process consists of establishing the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people throughout the Caribbean region. This is achieved primarily through the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). The project is implemented by the CARICOM Secretariat (CCS) on behalf of the CARICOM member states through a series of sub-projects that address specific CARICOM priorities. Some of these priorities include: improved development planning through the use of census data; improved decision making on social security issues; stronger performance in tertiary-level education systems; improved skills and systems in member states for implementation of the CSME; and improved gender awareness education at the early childhood, primary, and secondary levels in CARICOM. / Le projet a pour objectif de favoriser le développement socio-économique des États membres de la Communauté des Caraibes (CARICOM) en renforçant la capacité de cette dernière à promouvoir le processus d'intégration régional, qui vise à mettre en branle la libre circulation des marchandises, des services, des capitaux et des personnes partout dans les Caraibes. La réalisation de cet objectif repose principalement sur la mise en place d'un marché et d'une économie uniques pour la CARICOM. The Aga Khan Development Netwo...rk's Health Action Plan for Afghanistan (HAPA) is a five-year, multi-donor initiative that aims to improve the health status of the population in selected provinces of Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Bamyan, and Baghlan), with a focus on women of reproductive age and children under five. HAPA works at the national level with health education and training institutions and the Ministry of Public Health. Global Affairs Canada is supporting this initiative in collaboration with 'Agence Française de développement' (AFD).Project activities include: (1) improving the quality and expanding the range of health services in remote and rural areas; (2) strengthening availability and quality of health human resources; and (3) improving health practices among rural population, especially in the area of nutrition.HAPA aims to directly benefit 1,264,022 people, including 495,598 women, 525,732 men, 123,773 girls and 118,919 boys (below five years of age)./ Le Plan d'action pour le secteur de la santé en 'Afghanistan (HAPA) du réseau Aga Khan de développement, est une initiative multi bailleurs de cinq ans qui vise à améliorer l'état de santé de la population dans certaines provinces de l'Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Bamyan et Baghlan), en mettant l'accent sur les femmes en âge de procréer et les enfants de moins de cinq ans. HAPA travaillera également au niveau national avec des établissements d'éducation et de formation dans le milieu de la santé et avec le Ministère de la Santé Publique. This project aims to help stre...ngthen communities in under-served areas by improving education, vocational training and health care, and by developing local businesses. Project activities include:(1) provide equipment and training to improve schools and teaching; (2) increase access to quality healthcare and services, and develop local businesses and community networks; (3) provide better instructions and learning material for teachers, trainers, schools and students, especially women and girls; (4) provide local health providers and community members with improved equipment and health service delivery; and (5) provide training to local businesses including women entrepreneurs and farmers with improved business skills and micro-finance./ Ce projet vise à renforcer les collectivités de régions mal desservies en améliorant l'éducation, la formation professionnelle et les soins de santé, et en contribuant à la création d'entreprises locales. Parmi les activités du projet : fournir de l'équipement et une formation pour améliorer les écoles et l'enseignement; 2) élargir l'accès à des services et à des soins de santé de qualité, et créer des entreprises locales et des réseaux communautaires; 3) fournir une formation et des documents d'apprentissage de plus grande qualité aux enseignants, aux formateurs, aux écoles et aux élèves, particulièrement aux femmes et aux filles; 4) offrir aux fournisseurs de soins de santé locaux et aux membres des collectivités un équipement et des services de santé améliorés; 5) offrir une formation aux entreprises locales, notamment donner une formation aux entrepreneures et aux agricultrices sur le microfinancement et de meilleures compétences en entrepreneuriat.

This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH.Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems.The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results./ Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants.
