Ce projet vise à contribuer ... la réduction de la mortalité maternelle, néonatale et infantile à travers une approche globale et intégrée favorisant un continuum des soins dans sept communes en Haiti. Le projet vise à renforcer le système sanitaire et à rendre plus accessibles des compléments essentiels en micronutriments pour les femmes enceintes, les femmes allaitantes et les enfants de moins de cinq ans. Les activités du projet comprennent: 1) le renforcement du dépistage de la malnutrition des femmes enceintes et des enfants de moins de cinq ans, 2) la formation et la supervision des prestataires des centres communautaires de santé en SMNE, 3) le renforcement des structures de coordination en santé dans leurs fonctions de supervision, de coordination et de concertation des services SMNE, 4) la promotion de l'allaitement maternel exclusif pendant les six premiers mois de vie des enfants et une bonne diversification de l'alimentation et 5) la réhabilitation de centres de santé, le réaménagement et l'équipement des institutions en assurant le respect des normes environnementales et des droits des femmes. / Ce projet vise à contribuer à la réduction de la mortalité maternelle, néonatale et infantile à travers une approche globale et intégrée favorisant un continuum des soins dans sept communes en Haiti. Haiti is one of the countries ...most affected by maternal mortality and child morbidity. The towns of Leogane and Gressier are located in the West department, where the population is densest and highest. This is also where the use of health institutions, consultations, coverage and assisted deliveries are lowest. This initiative aims to reduce mortality rates among pregnant women, newborns and children under five in Haiti by supporting four healthcare facilities to provide obstetrics and neonatal emergency services. Activities include: 1) training healthcare personnel in reproductive health; 2) implementing a network of 50 polyvalent community healthcare officers to increase offer and usage of available maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services; 3) rehabilitating and building community healthcare centres to facilitate efficient service delivery; 4) stocking community healthcare centres in target communities with medical supplies, basic medicine and necessary medical equipment; and 5) implementing a functional and effective integrated approach and coordinating mechanism amongst main stakeholders. The project directly benefits approximately 30,000 women, men and children residing in the Léogâne and Gressier communities, and benefits indirectly 224,000 people living in these two communities surrounding areas.It also contributes to helping 15,000 people in Canada to understand issues related to maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) in Haiti. The project is implemented by a consortium lead by the Léger Foundation in collaboration with the Centre de coopération internationale en santé et développement (CCISD). It is also implemented with the collaboration of the following local partners: l'Unité Communale de Santé (UCS) de Léogane, under the Direction Sanitaire de l'Ouest du Ministère de la Santé publique et de la Population of the Government of Haiti, and the Soeurs missionnaires du Christ Roi. / Haiti fait partie des pays les plus touchés par la mortalité et morbidité maternelles et infantiles. Les communes de Léogâne et Gressier sont situées dans le département de l'Ouest où la population est la plus dense et la plus élevée. C'est aussi l'endroit où la fréquentation des institutions sanitaires, de consultations, de couverture et d'accouchements assistés sont les plus faibles. This project aims to prevent h...uman trafficking and protect vulnerable Haitian migrants especially children and women. Haiti is a major source of migrants and every year, thousands of Haitians seek better socio-economic opportunities in the Dominican Republic. The two countries share 360 km of extremely porous border, with only four official border points. The majority of migratory movements from Haiti are made from informal and illegal crossing points. Lacking legal status and documentation, illegal border crossers frequently fall victim to violence, abuse or exploitation, especially children and women. With GAC's support, the International Organization for Migration is increasing protection mechanisms in border areas to combat human trafficking, especially child and women trafficking and exploitation. Project activities include: (1) training 400 local governmental officers and civil society actors on standardized procedures and protection principles (including prevention and reintegration aspects); (2) establishing a common standardized data management system for the registration of migrants; (3) establishing and operationalizing four border resource centres at official crossing points; (4) rehabilitating or refurbishing eight reception centres in Ouanaminthe, Belladere and Fonds-Parisien; (5) providing reintegration assistance at border to 2,000 vulnerable migrants (e.g. emergency shelter and domestic items); (6) providing adequate livelihoods assistance/education grants to 500 vulnerable migrants; and (7) developing a total of 16 awareness/sensitization campaigns targeting more than 737,000 Haitians living in bordering communes on the dangers of irregular border crossings and on how to report cases of exploitation and abuse. / Ce projet vise à prévenir la traite des personnes et à protéger les migrants haitiens vulnérables, particulièrement les femmes et les enfants. De nombreux Haitiens quittent leur pays pour s'établir ailleurs et, chaque année, des milliers d'entre eux vont en République dominicaine dans l'espoir d'y améliorer leur situation socio-économique. Les deux pays ont une frontière commune extrêmement poreuse de 360 km qui ne compte que quatre postes frontaliers officiels. Sans statut juridique et documents, les Haitiens qui traversent illégalement la frontière - particulièrement les femmes et les enfants - sont souvent victimes de violence, de mauvais traitements ou d'exploitation. Avec le soutien d'AMC, l'Organisation internationale pour les migrations (OIM) renforce les mécanismes de protection dans les zones frontalières pour lutter contre la traite de personnes, et particulièrement la traite et l'exploitation des femmes et des enfants. The plan will also identify the multi-donor trust fund structure needed to finance this global strategy as well as the key stakeholders, including the Government of Haiti, civil society with the private sector, and the international community. / Le projet vise à produire un Plan d'action sectoriel national en énergie propre pour la restructuration de l'énergie utilisée par les ménages et les petites entreprises en substituant ou réduisant l'utilisation du bois et du charbon de bois. Ce plan d'action identifiera les solutions et les approches de l'offre et de la demande du secteur, ainsi que de l'appui nécessaire à la mise à jour d'un cadre réglementaire. Le Plan permettra de définir la structure d'un fonds multi donateurs pour le financement de cette stratégie et définir le rôle des différents acteurs, dont le gouvernement d'Haiti, la société civile incluant le secteur privé, et la communauté internationale.

The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition.The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations./ Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haïti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname.Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition.The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations./ Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haïti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname.Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. The Improving Maternal Partici...pation and Access to Community Training (IMPACT) project aims to increase the utilization and improve the delivery of culturally appropriate health services to pregnant & lactating mothers and their children in 111 hard-to-reach indigenous communities in Guatemala and Honduras. Activities include: 1) providing MNCH centres with essential health care equipment and ensuring that they are adequately staffed with well-trained MNCH Aides; 2) delivery of lactation workshops, as well as one-on-one counseling and support, to encourage women to initiate early and exclusive breastfeeding of their infants for at least 5 months; 3) delivering awareness raising workshops among key decision-makers in communities of MNCH related health risks, and enabling the health-related decision-making of vulnerable women, and 4) delivery of nutrition demonstration workshops to pregnant and lactating women. This project is expected to contribute to the improved health of 68,400 women and children, including 13,800 girls and 13, 300 boys. In addition, more than 160,000 people are expected to benefit indirectly. CAUSE Canada is implementing this project in collaboration with CAUSE Honduras, CAUSE Guatemala and Instituticion Mam de Desarrollo Integral (IMDI). / Le projet Improving Maternal Participation and Access to Community Training (IMPACT) vise à accroitre l'utilisation des services de santé adaptés à la culture et à en améliorer la prestation aux femmes enceintes et qui allaitent et à leurs enfants dans 111 collectivités autochtones difficiles à atteindre du Guatemala et du Honduras. Parmi les activités connexes se trouvent : 1) fournir aux centres de soins de santé à la mère, au nouveau-né et à l'enfant (SMNE) de l'équipement sanitaire essentiel et s'assurer qu'ils disposent d'un nombre suffisant d'aides biens formés en matière de SMNE; 2) la prestation d'ateliers sur la lactation, ainsi que de services de consultation et de soutien individuels, pour encourager les femmes à pratiquer rapidement l'allaitement exclusif de leur nourrisson, et ce, jusqu'à au moins cinq mois; 3) la prestation d'ateliers de sensibilisation auprès des principaux décideurs communautaires sur les risques pour la santé liés à la SMNE et d'un soutien accru à la prise de décisions concernant la santé pour les femmes vulnérables et 4) la prestation d'ateliers de démonstration sur la nutrition à des femmes enceintes et qui allaitent. AQCESS will target communities... and populations in select regions in Mali, Mozambique, Kenya and Pakistan where MNCH indicators, such as maternal mortality, skilled birth attendance, stunting prevalence and under five mortality are particularly poor and where women and children still lack access to essential health services. The regions targeted by the project lack adequate numbers of appropriately skilled health workers, have weak health system management, offer care of generally poor quality, and include communities with limited knowledge on how to protect and promote the health of mothers and children, and high levels of gender inequality. This initiative aims to improve the health of mothers, newborns and children through the following activities: (1) equipping and upgrading health facilities for: safer deliveries and newborn care, treating infections and malnutrition, facilitating eHealth applications, and improved disposal of biomedical waste; (2) training facility-based health workers and health care managers on topics including human resource management, use of clinical guidelines, evidence-based decision-making, and gender equality; (3) mobilizing local communities to adopt healthy behaviours; (4) providing essential health services at the community level; (5) training health workers and communities to collect, analyze and use administrative health data and contribute to reporting data through government information systems; and (6) engaging key project stakeholders on the results of project impact assessments and their relevance to policy dialogue. This initiative also includes a public engagement component designed to increase understanding of global MNCH issues among the Canadian public. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1.3 million people, including over 330,000 children, and 1.5 million people indirectly. Many women and children in Gua...temala and Kenya are at high risk of malnutrition and mortality. Chronic malnutrition affects 48 percent of the population of Guatemala, and 35 percent in Kenya. Infant mortality rates range from 24 deaths per 1,000 live births in Guatemala to 52 deaths per 1,000 live births in Kenya. In Guatemala, for every 100,000 births, 140 mothers die due to complications from child birth, and in Kenya the figure is 488 maternal deaths for every 100,000 births. This project seeks to contribute to the reduction of maternal and child mortality by improving the delivery and utilization of essential and nutrition related health services. This initiative will: 1) increase the effectiveness of community referral systems; 2) increase awareness of existing health services; 3) strengthen the organizational management skills of local level health service providers. The project is improving maternal, adolescent, child and infant malnutrition through the promotion of local feeding and care practices, nutritious foods and supplements as well as looking into wider nutrition security issues related to access to food and income. Lastly, local nutrition related health information systems are being strengthened through improved management of data collection, dissemination and utilization of data for local, national and global decision-making. It is estimated that the Project will reach more than 2.2 million people; where more than 1.3 million people will benefit directly and more than 880,000 people will benefit indirectly in the Chiquimula Department of Guatemala and five counties in Kenya (West Pokot, Trans-Nzoia, Busia, Kakamega, and Bungoma). The project is implemented by Action Against Hunger Canada in Kenya in collaboration with Action Against Hunger Kenya, Helen Keller International, and the Ministry of Health; and in Guatemala with Action Against Hunger Guatemala, Médicos del Mundo España en Guatemala, Asociación de Investigación y Estudios Sociales, and local government organizations. / Bon nombre de femmes et d'enfants du Guatemala et du Kenya courent un risque élevé de malnutrition et de mortalité. La malnutrition chronique touche 48 % de la population du Guatemala et 35 % de celle du Kenya. Le taux de mortalité infantile varie entre 24 décès pour 1 000 naissances vivantes au Guatemala et 52 décès pour 1 000 naissances vivantes au Kenya. This project seeks to save the... lives of women, newborns and children in Kenya and Liberia. The Canadian Red Cross Society and its partners in Kenya and Liberia work with the Ministries of Health in those countries to deliver a program in Integrated Community Case Management (iCCM), an approach to improve the health of pregnant women, newborns and children in 44 hard-to access rural communities. The project expects to reach 66,000 beneficiaries, including 12,000 children under five years old and 26,000 women of childbearing age in West Pokot District in Kenya and Bomi, Gbarpolu and Grand Gedeh Counties in Liberia. Ministry of Health-supervised community health workers and volunteers are selected by Community Health Committees and trained in community based health and first aid, in order to treat and refer sick children, and ensure community-level access to life-saving medications and basic health services. / Ce projet vise à sauver la vie des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants au Kenya et au Libéria. La Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge et ses partenaires au Kenya et au Libéria collaborent avec les ministères de la Santé de ces pays pour mettre en oeuvre un programme de prise en charge intégrée des cas dans la communauté (PEC-C), une approche visant à améliorer la santé des femmes enceintes, des nouveau-nés et des enfants dans 44 collectivités rurales difficiles d accès. The Project aims to strengthen... health systems in the districts of Chitipa & Kasungu in Malawi, by working with local health authorities to improve water, sanitation, and medical waste management systems at health facilities, and through improved capacity of facility and community-based health workers to deliver gender-sensitive Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) services. Activities include: (1) training health workers on the full MNCH continuum of care, including the importance of improved sanitation and hygiene as a key measure to prevent infection; (2) establishing and rehabilitating water supply systems, hand washing stations, and medical waste management systems at health facilities; (3) developing and implementing scorecards and other citizen engagement mechanisms to enable communities to communicate their healthcare needs to local government, and provide feedback on whether these needs are being met; and (4) developing and rolling-out a mobile birth registration system. This initiative, implemented through a consortium led by Cowater International Inc., and including Sogema Technologies Inc., Plan International Canada; and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada; and in collaboration with Plan International Malawi. The initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 373,000 people, including mothers, pregnant women, newborns and children. An additional 1 million individuals are estimated to benefit indirectly from improved health services. / Le projet vise à renforcer les systèmes de santé des districts de Chitipa & Kasungu au Malawi, en travaillant avec les autorités locales de santé pour améliorer l'eau, l'assainissement et les systèmes de gestion des déchets médicaux des établissements de santé, et en améliorant la capacité des travailleurs de ces établissements et ceux des établissements de santé communautaire à donner des services de santé pour les mères, les nouveau-nés et les enfants (SMNE) tout en intégrant les principes d'égalité entre les sexes. The project will contribute to... the reduction of maternal and child mortality in Ghana, Malawi and Rwanda. Target areas in each country experience a low level of knowledge on prevention, delays in seeking early treatment, poor hygiene and sanitation practices, traditional cultural practices, and gender inequities. Overall, key impediments in health delivery include low capacity of skilled workers, poor infrastructure, weak referral systems and lack of transport. Activities include: 1) train health workers in such as Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC); 2) improve utilization and promotion of health services; emphasize household and community level engagement; 3) prevent illnesses and create demand for health services. These activities involve the setting up of Model Mothers, Care Groups, Community Conversations and mobilisations and sensitization activities, improving nutrition through increased community knowledge and skills on optimal feeding, improving access to nutritious foods and preventing malnutrition through community based initiatives. In Ghana, the project works with the Ghana Community Ambulance project to ensure increase access of adequate medical supplies and care. It also supports development and transmission of SMS and voice messages to pregnant women and mothers. In Malawi, the project strengthens early identification and integrated support for growth faltering children and community management of acute malnutrition services. In Rwanda, activities include permaculture approaches to kitchen gardens, water harvesting and water-saving techniques. In the project, Christian Children's Fund of Canada works in consortium with ADRA Canada and Emmanuel International Canada. In Ghana, Christian Children's Fund of Canada works in collaboration with local partners of Christian Children's Fund, Tuma Kavi Development Association and Assemblies of God Relief and Development Services; in Malawi, Emmanuel International Canada with Emmanuel International and; in Rwanda, ADRA Canada with ADRA Rwanda. / Le projet contribuera à la réduction de la mortalité maternelle et infantile au Ghana, au Malawi et au Rwanda. This initiative is a key eleme...nt of the assistance provided by Canada to contribute to Mali reaching its development goals in the health sector, particularly in improving maternal, newborn and child health. It mainly aims to support the Ministry of Health of Mali in implementing is Ten-Year Health and Social Development Plan 2014-2023. As is the case for all budget support initiatives, Canada is working closely with other donors and the Government of Mali to improve the emphasis on accountability, transparency and effectiveness of national systems by increasing coordination and harmonization among donors and strengthening mutual accountability. Budgetary support also fosters greater policy dialogue between donors, government and partners, which helps to reinforce efforts to provide targeted and effective help and get results from long-term development. Monitoring and continuous evaluation of this initiative are made in conjunction with other donors. / Cette initiative constitue un élément fondamental de l'aide fournie par le Canada au Mali pour qu'il atteigne les objectifs de développement dans le secteur de la santé, particulièrement en matière d'amélioration de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants. Elle vise essentiellement à appuyer le ministère de la Santé du Mali dans sa mise en oeuvre du Plan décennal de développement sanitaire et social 2014-2023. Comme c'est le cas pour toutes les initiatives d'appui budgétaire, le Canada travaille en étroite collaboration avec d'autres donateurs et le gouvernement du Mali pour mettre l'emphase sur la responsabilisation, la transparence et l'efficacité des systèmes nationaux en accroissant la coordination et l'harmonisation entre les donateurs et en renforçant la responsabilité mutuelle. L'appui budgétaire favorise également un plus grand dialogue sur les politiques entre les donateurs, le gouvernement et les partenaires, ce qui contribue à renforcer les efforts déployés pour fournir une aide ciblée et efficace et obtenir des résultats de développement à long terme. Le suivi et l'évaluation continus de cette initiative sont réalisés de concert avec d'autres donateurs.

The project aims to improve ac...cess for Malians to quality basic health services that are environmentally friendly and meet their needs, especially those of women, newborns, children and youth. It focuses on the regions of Kayes, Segou and Sikasso and seeks to provide, annually, access to quality health care to about 900,000 women of childbearing age, which represents 46% of the target population. The project provides support to nearly 150 local health centers to improve their health infrastructure and treatment of biomedical waste.Among the activities: 1) support the regional authorities for the effective integration of good health management practices in the public health strategies; 2) accompany the Malian institutions in the sustainable construction or rehabilitation of 150 water supply infrastructures for health centers (drilling, network, supply systems) and access points to water (sinks, washbasins and showers in the treatment and childbirth rooms); 3) develop maintenance plans for infrastructure and equipment; 4) train 450 members of the maintenance staff in hygiene standards and disposal of biomedical waste (transport, storage and use of tanks and incinerators); 5) educate users to the promotion of hygiene and good environmental practices; 6) train technicians in hygiene and routine maintenance of water points and latrines, while taking into account the specific needs of mothers and children, 7) train managers, nursing staff and 33 regional trainers in hygiene as well as management and recycling of biomedical waste; and 8) equip 150 health centers with solar energy systems and ensure their sustainability.This project is part of Canada's commitment to the health of mothers, newborns and children./ Le projet vise à améliorer l'accès des Maliens à des services de santé de base de qualité, respectueux de l'environnement et qui répondent à leurs besoins, particulièrement à ceux des femmes, des nouveau-nés, des enfants et des jeunes. AQCESS will target communities... and populations in select regions in Mali, Mozambique, Kenya and Pakistan where MNCH indicators, such as maternal mortality, skilled birth attendance, stunting prevalence and under five mortality are particularly poor and where women and children still lack access to essential health services. The regions targeted by the project lack adequate numbers of appropriately skilled health workers, have weak health system management, offer care of generally poor quality, and include communities with limited knowledge on how to protect and promote the health of mothers and children, and high levels of gender inequality. This initiative aims to improve the health of mothers, newborns and children through the following activities: (1) equipping and upgrading health facilities for: safer deliveries and newborn care, treating infections and malnutrition, facilitating eHealth applications, and improved disposal of biomedical waste; (2) training facility-based health workers and health care managers on topics including human resource management, use of clinical guidelines, evidence-based decision-making, and gender equality; (3) mobilizing local communities to adopt healthy behaviours; (4) providing essential health services at the community level; (5) training health workers and communities to collect, analyze and use administrative health data and contribute to reporting data through government information systems; and (6) engaging key project stakeholders on the results of project impact assessments and their relevance to policy dialogue. This initiative also includes a public engagement component designed to increase understanding of global MNCH issues among the Canadian public. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1.3 million people, including over 330,000 children, and 1.5 million people indirectly. This project builds on a previ...ous initiative supported by DFATD supporting the Mali Red Cross' efforts towards the Government of Mali's plans to reduce maternal and child mortality in the regions of Koulikoro and Sikasso. The initiative aims to reduce ...maternal and perinatal mortality in twelve rural communities located in Koulikoro and Segou in Mali as well as in the Echarate district in Peru. In Mali and targeted areas in Peru, perinatal mortality and chronic malnutrition rates are very high. Activities include: training on perinatal health, birthing techniques, education on mothers and children's health; equipment of twelve Community health centers and seventy-five maternity hospitals in Mali as well as height health centers in Peru; the production and distribution of television and radio programs on maternal, newborn and children under five health issues; support for the local food production through agricultural cooperatives. In Canada, the project will increase the awareness of the Estrie public on the health issues of mothers and children in Mali and Peru. Carrefour de Solidarité International is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Ayni Desarrollo in Peru and l'Association Kilabo in Mali. / L'initiative vise à réduire la mortalité maternelle et périnatale dans douze communes rurales situées à koulikoro et Ségou au Mali ainsi que dans le district d' Echarate au Pérou. Au Mali et dans les zones ciblées au Pérou, les taux de mortalités périnatales et de malnutrition chronique sont très élevés. Les activités incluent: des formations sur la santé périnatale, les techniques d'accouchement, l'animation/ sensibilisation, les services offerts aux mères et aux enfants, l'interculturalité; l'équipement de douze centres de santé communautaire, soixante-quinze maternités au Mali et huit centres de santé au Pérou; la réalisation et diffusion de reportages télévisuels et radiophoniques sur les enjeux de santé spécifique aux mères, aux nouveau-nés et aux enfants de moins de cinq ans et l'appui à la production locale d'aliments via des coopératives agricoles. Au Canada, le public de l'Estrie sera sensibilisé sur la santé des mères et des enfants au Mali et au Pérou. The regions targeted by the project lack adequate numbers of appropriately skilled health workers, have weak health system management, offer care of generally poor quality, and include communities with limited knowledge on how to protect and promote the health of mothers and children, and high levels of gender inequality. This initiative aims to improve the health of mothers, newborns and children through the following activities: (1) equipping and upgrading health facilities for: safer deliveries and newborn care, treating infections and malnutrition, facilitating eHealth applications, and improved disposal of biomedical waste; (2) training facility-based health workers and health care managers on topics including human resource management, use of clinical guidelines, evidence-based decision-making, and gender equality; (3) mobilizing local communities to adopt healthy behaviours; (4) providing essential health services at the community level; (5) training health workers and communities to collect, analyze and use administrative health data and contribute to reporting data through government information systems; and (6) engaging key project stakeholders on the results of project impact assessments and their relevance to policy dialogue. This initiative also includes a public engagement component designed to increase understanding of global MNCH issues among the Canadian public. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1.3 million people, including over 330,000 children, and 1.5 million people indirectly. This project will support the ...health and rights of women by improving the provision of health services to women and adolescent girls (15-19 years) in three underserved areas in Nampula and reducing the risks of Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM), and early pregnancy. Project activities include: (1) conducting radio programmes and mobilization events on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, early pregnancy and CEFM in 60 villages; (2) establishing father, mother-to-mother and adolescent clubs as community support groups; (3) orienting madrinhas†(traditional sexual health counselors) and traditional birth attendants on mentorship for Adolescent Reproductive Health issues; (4) training health care providers on gender-responsive and adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health and Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care; and (5) developing a provincial action plan on maternal, newborn and child health topics including CEFM and pregnancy, with 14 semi-annual national and provincial Coalition meetings to end child marriage. The project is expected to reach over 45,000 direct beneficiaries and close to 800,000 indirect beneficiaries, including 120,720 women of child-bearing age in Nampula province. / Ce projet vise à renforcer la santé et les droits des femmes en améliorant les soins de santé prodigués aux femmes et aux adolescentes (15 à 19 ans) au sein de trois localités mal desservies de Nampula et en réduisant les risques de mariages d'enfants, précoces et forcés (MEPF), et de grossesses précoces. Les activités de projet sont les suivantes : (1) mettre sur pied des programmes radio et des événements mobilisateurs portant sur la santé sexuelle et reproductrice, l'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes, les grossesses précoces et les MEPF dans 60 villages; (2) établir des groupes de soutien communautaires pour pères, de mère-à-mère et pour adolescents; (3) présenter le mentorat sur les questions de santé reproductive des adolescents aux « madrinhas » (conseillers traditionnels en matière de santé sexuelle) et aux sages-femmes traditionnelles; (4) former les prestataires de soins de santé sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive sensible au genre et aux besoins des adolescents, et sur les soins de base obstétricaux et néonatals d'urgence; et (5) élaborer un plan d'action provincial portant sur la santé maternelle, néonatale et des enfants, incluant les MEPF et la grossesse, dont 14 réunions semestrielles de la Coalition nationale et provinciale pour mettre fin au mariage des enfants. This project aims to enhance i...nclusive democratic development in Burma by strengthening citizen engagement, deepening trust and understanding of democratic systems, and building the capacity of communities to participate in their own development. The project targets over 320 ,000 people in Burma and 110,000 Burmese refugees outside the country. Activities include: (1) organizing workshops on human rights, including women's rights; (2) training media workers from ethnic minority media organizations; (3) supporting the production of publications on key development issues (human rights, environmental protection, gender equality, etc.); (4) training community-level basic health workers to improve decentralized health service delivery; (5) supporting multi-stakeholder consultations to share experiences on participatory, community-based and decentralized health care delivery; (6) training refugees and internally displaced people in entrepreneurship, livelihood skills and democratic governance to facilitate reintegration into Burma; and (7) supporting small-scale locally-initiated projects in Burma to strengthen community capacity to implement development activities using democratic approaches. / Ce projet vise à accroitre le développement démocratique inclusif en Birmanie en augmentant la participation des citoyens, en accroissant la confiance et la compréhension à l'égard des systèmes démocratiques et en renforçant la capacité des collectivités à participer à leur propre développement. Activities include: (1) organizing workshops on human rights, including women's rights; (2) training media workers from ethnic minority media organizations; (3) supporting the production of publications on key development issues (human rights, environmental protection, gender equality, etc.); (4) training community-level basic health workers to improve decentralized health service delivery; (5) supporting multi-stakeholder consultations to share experiences on participatory, community-based and decentralized health care delivery; (6) training refugees and internally displaced people in entrepreneurship, livelihood skills and democratic governance to facilitate reintegration into Burma; and (7) supporting small-scale locally-initiated projects in Burma to strengthen community capacity to implement development activities using democratic approaches. / Ce projet vise à accroitre le développement démocratique inclusif en Birmanie en augmentant la participation des citoyens, en accroissant la confiance et la compréhension à l'égard des systèmes démocratiques et en renforçant la capacité des collectivités à participer à leur propre développement. The project aims to reduce chi...ld mortality in targeted regions benefitting an estimated 452,345 women and 3,740,379 children. Substantial progress has been made in achieving the Millennium Development Goals to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health. However, this progress often conceals widening disparities in given countries or regions. This project aims to address health disparities and gaps in maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH), by prioritizing interventions identified as critical to advancing progress in reducing child mortality. Project activities include: (1) conduct and analyse research on health needs and solutions for mothers and children; (2) review and enhance existing policies and guidelines to improve MNCH; (3) develop and provide training on gender responsive MNCH interventions, on civil registration and vital statistics systems, and on health information management system; (4) test and implement models to address gaps in MNCH; (5) develop and deliver community awareness campaigns to increase knowledge on MNCH interventions; and (6) procure and distribute critical health supplies. This project is part of Canada's commitment for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. / Ce projet vise à réduire la mortalité infantile dans les régions ciblées et à venir en aide à quelque 452 345 femmes et 3 740 379 enfants. Des progrès importants ont été accomplis en vue d'atteindre l'Objectif du Millénaire pour le développement relatif à la réduction de la mortalité chez les enfants et à l'amélioration de la santé maternelle. Toutefois, ces progrès dissimulent souvent le fait qu'il existe des inégalités grandissantes dans certains pays ou certaines régions. The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition.The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations./ Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haïti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname.Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. Pour cela, le projet va travailler sur trois composantes : (1) renforcement des systèmes de santé; (2) réduction du fardeau des principales maladies, et ; (3) amélioration de la nutrition.Le projet va contribuer à (i) faciliter une meilleure utilisation des soins de santé de bases ; (ii) renforcer la gestion par les autorités locales des principales maladies ; (iii) améliorer les habitudes alimentaires chez les populations cibles.

The project aims to improve pe...ople's health by rapidly increasing polio immunity and the availability of basic maternal, newborn and child health services in 1,500 hard-to-reach settlements in Jigawa, Niger, Zamfara and Taraba states in northern Nigeria. The project seeks to hire, train, supervise and monitor 30 mobile health teams (with 150 health workers) to procure and deliver polio vaccines. This is expected to strengthen rural health systems and support active surveillance of polio and other diseases. The mobile health teams also provide other health interventions to boost overall health, address urgent health needs and help increase the acceptance of polio vaccination. These include: (1) providing vitamin A and multivitamins to address malnutrition in women and children; (2) providing treatment for pneumonia, diarrhea, malaria and other vaccines against preventable diseases; (3) providing preventive health services for pregnant women, such as iron folate; and (4) providing health education on issues such as safe water and sanitation management, the benefits of exclusive breast-feeding, nutrition and maternal health. Some project activities include: (1) immunizing children (0-59 months of age) against polio; (2) identifying priority target populations requiring polio immunization, including detailed health team plans, commodities, logistics requirements and a mobile outreach schedule; (3) preparing and producing protocols, training materials and health education materials for outreach teams and populations; (4) conducting community engagement activities to educate people on important health issues; and (5) demonstrating the effectiveness of the mobile outreach approach as a strategy to access hard-to-reach, vulnerable populations, to national, state and local governments for future government-supported scale-up by documenting performance, challenges, lessons learned and value for money. These activities will contribute to the ultimate outcome, now within reach, of eradicating polio in Nigeria.

AQCESS will target communities... and populations in select regions in Mali, Mozambique, Kenya and Pakistan where MNCH indicators, such as maternal mortality, skilled birth attendance, stunting prevalence and under five mortality are particularly poor and where women and children still lack access to essential health services. The regions targeted by the project lack adequate numbers of appropriately skilled health workers, have weak health system management, offer care of generally poor quality, and include communities with limited knowledge on how to protect and promote the health of mothers and children, and high levels of gender inequality. This initiative aims to improve the health of mothers, newborns and children through the following activities: (1) equipping and upgrading health facilities for: safer deliveries and newborn care, treating infections and malnutrition, facilitating eHealth applications, and improved disposal of biomedical waste; (2) training facility-based health workers and health care managers on topics including human resource management, use of clinical guidelines, evidence-based decision-making, and gender equality; (3) mobilizing local communities to adopt healthy behaviours; (4) providing essential health services at the community level; (5) training health workers and communities to collect, analyze and use administrative health data and contribute to reporting data through government information systems; and (6) engaging key project stakeholders on the results of project impact assessments and their relevance to policy dialogue. This initiative also includes a public engagement component designed to increase understanding of global MNCH issues among the Canadian public. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health of approximately 1.3 million people, including over 330,000 children, and 1.5 million people indirectly. Aga Khan Foundation Canada is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Aga Khan Foundation Mozambique; Aga Khan Health Service, Aga Khan Rural Support Programme and Aga Khan Foundation, in Pakistan; Aga Khan University of East Africa and Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS) East Africa, in Kenya. / Le projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants dans certaines régions. The initiative aims to reduce ...maternal and perinatal mortality in twelve rural communities located in Koulikoro and Segou in Mali as well as in the Echarate district in Peru. In Mali and targeted areas in Peru, perinatal mortality and chronic malnutrition rates are very high. Activities include: training on perinatal health, birthing techniques, education on mothers and children's health; equipment of twelve Community health centers and seventy-five maternity hospitals in Mali as well as height health centers in Peru; the production and distribution of television and radio programs on maternal, newborn and children under five health issues; support for the local food production through agricultural cooperatives. In Canada, the project will increase the awareness of the Estrie public on the health issues of mothers and children in Mali and Peru. Carrefour de Solidarité International is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Ayni Desarrollo in Peru and l'Association Kilabo in Mali. / L'initiative vise à réduire la mortalité maternelle et périnatale dans douze communes rurales situées à koulikoro et Ségou au Mali ainsi que dans le district d' Echarate au Pérou. Au Mali et dans les zones ciblées au Pérou, les taux de mortalités périnatales et de malnutrition chronique sont très élevés. Les activités incluent: des formations sur la santé périnatale, les techniques d'accouchement, l'animation/ sensibilisation, les services offerts aux mères et aux enfants, l'interculturalité; l'équipement de douze centres de santé communautaire, soixante-quinze maternités au Mali et huit centres de santé au Pérou; la réalisation et diffusion de reportages télévisuels et radiophoniques sur les enjeux de santé spécifique aux mères, aux nouveau-nés et aux enfants de moins de cinq ans et l'appui à la production locale d'aliments via des coopératives agricoles. Au Canada, le public de l'Estrie sera sensibilisé sur la santé des mères et des enfants au Mali et au Pérou.
