In support of Mali s second Te...n-Year Health and Social Development Plan, which covers the period from 2007 to 2016 (inclusive), this project provides direct support to its five-year operational program, the Health and Social Development Program (PRODESS) in Mali s Northern regions: Timbuktu, Gao, and Kidal. Canadian support targets community health centres relating to the provision of reproductive health services and community health associations in terms of their capacity to mobilize the community and to manage the community health centres. The project strengthens the capacities of decentralized health facilities in the regions of northern Mali. Unlike a similar project in the Kayes region which provides Canadian technical assistance, this project calls on local Malians to provide the necessary technical support. / Le projet soutient la planification par période de dix ans du développement sanitaire et social du Mali dont la deuxième période concerne 2007-2016 (inclusive). Ce projet soutient, avec un appui financier direct et pour cinq ans, les programmes opérationnels des régions du Nord du Mali : Tombouctou, Gao et Kidal. This project forms the corners...tone of Canada's support for the achievement of development objectives in health, education, and public financial management in Mali. The main focus of this contribution is to help the Government of Mali implement its sector policies, as defined in Mali's Strategic Framework for Growth and Poverty Reduction, 2007-2011. As with all budget support projects, Canada is working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Mali to strengthen the effectiveness of its aid by: focussing on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increasing donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthening mutual accountability. Sector-wide budgetary support also fosters greater policy dialogue between CIDA, the Government of Mali, and development partners, thus reinforcing efforts for effective, focussed aid, as well as long-term development results. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors. This initiative aims to strengthen Mali's national education and health programs and to modernize public financial management, through direct support to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance. The desired impact of the initiative is to make quality education more available to girls and boys, and quality health care more available to the general public. It also aims to achieve progress in the transparency and rigour of public financial management and in the governance of Mali's health and education systems. All of this helps to strengthen overall capacity in Mali and to sustain results achieved long after the project is completed. / Ce projet représente la pierre angulaire de l'aide fournie par le Canada au Mali pour qu'il atteigne les objectifs de développement dans les secteurs de la santé, de l'éducation et de la gestion des finances publiques. Il vise essentiellement à aider le gouvernement du Mali à mettre en oeuvre ses politiques sectorielles, telles que décrites dans le Cadre stratégique pour la croissance et la réduction de la pauvreté 2007-2011 du Mali. Comme c'est le cas pour tous les projets d'appui budgétaire, le Canada travaille en étroite collaboration avec d'autres donateurs et le gouvernement du Mali pour accroitre l'efficacité de son aide, et ce, en mettant l'emphase sur la responsabilisation, la transparence et l'efficacité des systèmes nationaux, en accroissant la coordination et l'harmonisation entre les donateurs, et en renforçant la responsabilité mutuelle. L'appui budgétaire sectoriel favorise également un plus grand dialogue sur les politiques entre l'ACDI, le gouvernement du Mali et les partenaires du développement, ce qui contribue à renforcer les efforts déployés pour fournir une aide ciblée et efficace, ainsi que pour obtenir des résultats de développement à long terme. Project objectives are: improvement of health services management by key stakeholders (community health associations, territorial communities, and decentralized health institutions); improvement of the quality of social and health services provided to populations in the four regions, specifically targeting women and children; and increasing the usage by these populations of preventive and curative health services.The project supports the Ministry of Health in implementing its sector strategy, focusing on improving geographic and financial accessibility of health services, meeting demand, improving service quality and usage, and building institutional capacity.Through the technical assistance (International Health Unit consortium/CARE Canada/Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI)) as well as the direct financial assistance components, this project supports the Division for Regional Health (DRS) and the Division for Regional Social Development (DRDS) in the regions of Gao, Kidal, Tombouctou and Kayes. The project supports civil cociety through the Fédération nationale des associations de santé communautaire (FENASCOM) and its members as well as the community health associations (ASACOs). It also provides support at the local level to community associations to which the Government of Mali has transferred health care capacities./ Le projet vise à améliorer la santé des populations dans quatre régions du Mali (Kayes, Tombouctou, Gao et Kidal), se concentrant principalement sur la santé des femmes et des enfants. The goal of this project is to... help strengthen the detection, treatment, and prevention of acute malnutrition and to help combat some of the major causes of child mortality, through immunization and improved care at the community level. The project aims to support the provision of basic health services, contribute to the response to the nutrition crisis in Mali, and ensure that the Malian population has access to vaccines and essential drugs. The project involves establishing a mechanism for active detection and treatment of severely malnourished children at the community level; promoting adequate nutrition for infants and young children; as well as ensuring the timely supply of vaccines included in the national immunization program. Additionally, the project includes providing refrigerators to community health centers for vaccine storage, ensuring timely supply of medicines for essential care at the community level, and distributing light medical equipment to community health centres. This project is part of Canada s maternal, newborn, and child health commitment. / Ce projet a pour but de renforcer la détection, le traitement et la prévention de la malnutrition aigüe et d aider dans la lutte contre certaines des principales causes de mortalité infantile, grâce à l immunisation et l amélioration des soins dans les collectivités. Ce projet vise à soutenir la prestation de services de santé de base, à venir en aide aux victimes de la crise alimentaire au Mali et à veiller à ce que la population du Mali ait accès à des vaccins et à des médicaments vitaux. Le projet consiste à établir un mécanisme pour la détection active et le traitement des enfants atteints de malnutrition sévère dans les collectivités; à faire la promotion d une nutrition adéquate pour les nourrissons et les jeunes enfants; et à veiller à la prestation, en temps opportun, des vaccins compris dans le programme de vaccination national. De plus, dans le cadre du projet, des réfrigérateurs sont fournis aux centres de santé communautaires pour l entreposage des vaccins; on veille à procurer, dans un délais restreint, des médicaments pour les soins essentiels dans les collectivités, et de l équipement médical léger aux centres de santé communautaires. Ce projet fait partie de l engagement du Canada à l égard de la santé des femmes, des nouveau-nés et des enfants.

This project seeks to improve ...the availability of quality health services for women and children in southern Mali by building, repairing, and equipping health centres. The project aims to resume work that was interrupted by the coup d état in March 2012 in order to address health care needs that have become more critical as a result of the political and humanitarian crisis in the country. Some project activities include : (i) completing the construction of targeted district health centres and community health centres, in southern Mali, with a specific focus on Kayes region; (ii) completing the rehabilitation of targeted district health centres and community health centres, in southern Mali, particularly in Kayes region; and (iii) supplying medical equipment (such as ambulances, ultrasound equipment, child delivery tables, solar vaccine refrigerators, stethoscopes, and thermometers) to targeted district health centres and to over one hundred community health centres in southern Mali, especially in Kayes region. These activities aim to ensure that targeted district and community health centres are able to provide essential health services, especially for mothers and children. This project is managed by the Government of the Netherlands. Canada s contribution covers activities in southern Mali, with a specific focus on Kayes region. / Le but de ce projet est de rendre plus accessibles les services de soins de santé pour les femmes et les enfants au sud du Mali en construisant, en réparant et en équipant des centres de santé. Le projet vise à reprendre le travail interrompu par le coup d État en mars 2012, en réponse aux besoins en soins de santé qui sont devenus beaucoup plus critiques étant donné la crise politique et humanitaire dans le pays. Les activités du projet incluent : (i) compléter la construction de neuf centres de santé de district et trois centres de santé communautaires au Sud du Mali, avec une attention particulière pour la région de Kayes; (ii) compléter la réhabilitation de deux centres de santé de district et un centre de santé communautaire au Sud du Mali, ciblant la région de Kayes; et (iii) fournir de l équipement médical (comme des ambulances, des équipements à ultrasons, des tables d accouchement, des réfrigérateurs solaires pour vaccins, des stéthoscopes et des thermomètres) à onze centres de santé de district et à plus de cent centres de santé communautaires au Sud du Mali, plus particulièrement dans la région de Kayes. Ces activités visent à assurer la qualité des soins de santé de base, particulièrement pour les femmes et les enfants, dans les centres de santé communautaires et de districts ciblés. This project aims to improve t...he health and nutrition of newborns, children under five, and women of reproductive age in the Segou region of Mali, and in the Swabi district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan by improving the availability and use of health and nutrition services at the community level. Benefiting an estimated 330,000 children, 161,000 women and 1,600 local Ministry of Health workers, the project promotes the use of quality health, nutrition and family planning services, and improved health, nutrition and family planning behaviours of caregivers and family members. Activities include: training local Ministry of Health partners to support and supervise community health workers; training community health workers to assess and treat sick children, and provide family planning services; and educating families about healthy behaviours, signs of illnesses and seeking care. Save the Children Canada is working with the Mali and Pakistan ministries of health on this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Ce projet améliore la santé et l'alimentation des nouveau-nés, des enfants de moins de cinq ans et des femmes en âge de procréer dans la région de Sikasso au Mali et du district de Swabi dans la province de Khyber Pakhtunkhwa au Pakistan, en assurant la disponibilité et l'utilisation des services de santé et de nutrition au niveau communautaire. The project aims to decrease i...llness and death among mothers, newborns and children under-five in the regions of Sikasso and Koulikoro. It is designed to strengthen life-saving interventions and services to better address critical childhood illnesses, including malaria, diarrhea, and pneumonia. Reaching around 875,000 beneficiaries (150,000 children under the age of five), the project uses a community-based approach to deliver proven, high-impact, cost-effective interventions, with a complementary focus on improved community capacity to prevent illness, and provide access to services for mothers, newborns and children. Activities include: community-based health and first aid training; radio broadcasts on illness symptoms and treatment; and establishment or reinforcement of village health committees to support volunteers and community health workers and liaise with various decision makers. The Canadian Red Cross is working with the Croix-Rouge Malienne to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à réduire les taux de maladies et de décès chez les mères, les nouveau-nés et les enfants de moins de cinq ans dans les régions de Sikasso et Koulikoro. Reaching over 1.85 million people, including families and community health workers, the project uses a community-based approach and works to improve the quality of community outreach and MNCH services while encouraging health-seeking behaviours, and improved health care management. Activities include: training government health workers on basic obstetric and neonatal care, safe deliveries, and management of childhood illnesses; training health facility managers to strengthen quality control; equipping 63 health facilities and 30 maternity wards; conducting home visits for postnatal care; and helping communities address traditional cultural views impeding the use of health services. Plan Canada is working with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, UNICEF and ministries of health, to implement this project. The Health Services Delivery P...rogram (HSDP) targets up to 54 districts in the provinces of Niassa, Nampula and Cabo Delgado, which together are home to 6 million Mozambicans or approximately 30 percent of the population. These provinces have some of the lowest ranking health indicators in the country. The project is implemented by the Mozambican Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Bank supported by CIDA, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Russian Development Cooperation. The project aims to scale up access to health service delivery through: facility-based service delivery, outreach, and community-based services. It aims to provide a cost-effective and innovative way for the Government of Mozambique to increase health services to some of the most disadvantaged populations, while helping to build the basis of a health management system. Key activities include training 1,400 community-based health workers, 162 nurses and medical technicians, 200 traditional healers and midwives in child and maternal health; expanding the breadth of training for up to 54 teams of outreach workers; purchasing vehicles necessary for outreach workers to access isolated communities; rehabilitating existing health facilities; and constructing 21 new health facilities including staff housing. The World Bank s HSDP project team works closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure that this project aligns with the Ministry s new Community Health Worker (CHW) Revitalization program. This project aims to improve t...he health of people living in 251 rural villages in Mozambique, Tanzania and Burundi by increasing their access to primary health care and clean water, promoting good health habits, and improving the agricultural yield of smallholder farmers. Most illnesses and deaths in the project villages are due to preventable diseases, lack of access to trained health workers and lack of access to clean water and adequate food. The project therefore seeks to increase the number of community health workers, provide bicycle ambulances to remote villages, build or expand basic health infrastructure where most needed, and enhance access to clean water by refurbishing old wells and building new ones. The project also educates women, men and children on sexual reproductive health, proper nutrition and sanitation, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and gender issues, and trains both women and men farmers on best practices in sustainable agriculture. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des populations de 194 villages ruraux au Mozambique, en Tanzanie et au Burundi en augmentant l'accès aux soins de santé primaire et à l'eau potable, en faisant la promotion de saines habitudes de vie et en améliorant le rendement agricole des petits exploitants. Le projet contribue à augmenter le nombre de travailleurs communautaires dans le secteur de la santé, à fournir des vélos-ambulances aux villages éloignés, à construire ou à agrandir des infrastructures de santé de base dans les collectivités qui en ont le plus besoin et à améliorer l'accès à l'eau potable en creusant ou en rénovant des puits. Le projet enseigne également aux femmes, aux hommes et aux enfants les principes de santé sexuelle et génésique, de nutrition et d'hygiène, de santé maternelle et infantile, de prévention du VIH/sida et d'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Une formation sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'agriculture durable est également donnée aux agriculteurs et agricultrices.

The project aims to improve pr...imary health care in Nigeria s Bauchi and Cross River States by strengthening the ability of two Colleges of Health Technology to provide appropriate, quality education to primary health care workers. The project enhances the curriculum, administration and management, and physical infrastructure of the two colleges, which provide both entry level and in-service training to primary health care workers. It also helps the colleges to strengthen and expand community outreach, in order to improve understanding of local needs and to ensure the relevance of teaching content and methods. / Le projet vise à améliorer les soins de santé primaires dans les États de Bauchi et de Cross River, au Nigéria, en renforçant la capacité de deux collèges de technologies de la santé à donner aux travailleurs de santé primaire une formation adéquate et de bonne qualité. Le projet améliore le programme d études, l administration, la gestion et l infrastructure matérielle des collèges, qui offrent de la formation aux débutants et aux travailleurs expérimentés. Il aide également les collèges à renforcer et à élargir leur approche communautaire, pour leur permettre de mieux comprendre les besoins locaux et d assurer la pertinence du contenu pédagogique de leur formation et des méthodes d enseignement employées.

The purpose of this project is... to improve state and local health governance and capacity in the states of Bauchi and Cross River. This is achieved through the development of an effective gender-sensitive health information system that is used to plan and improve primary health care services for citizens. In particular, the project aims to strengthen the reliability, consistency, and availability of gender-sensitive health data; increase participation and engagement by community members (women and men) in health services and health planning; strengthen institutional capacity to plan, budget, and deliver primary health care services; and strengthen local ownership and understanding of the project, to explore the potential of extending it into other states. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la gouvernance et les capacités en matière de santé à l'échelon local et étatique dans les États de Bauchi et de Cross River. Pour ce faire, un système d'information sur la santé tenant compte des sexospécificités est mis en place afin de planifier et d'améliorer la prestation des soins de santé primaires aux citoyens. Ce projet vise plus particulièrement à renforcer la fiabilité, l'uniformité et la disponibilité de données sexospécifiques sur la santé; à renforcer la participation des membres de la collectivité (hommes et femmes) à la planification et la prestation des services de santé; à renforcer la capacité institutionnelle à planifier des services de soins de santé primaires, à en assurer la prestation et à dresser un budget à cet égard; à renforcer la prise en charge locale et la compréhension du projet afin d'explorer les possibilités de l'étendre à d'autres États.

The project aims to increase the quantity and quality of frontline health care workers, such as midwives, nurses, and community health workers, in order to improve the delivery of maternal, newborn and child health care services for 1.9 million pregnant women and mothers and 1.7 million children under five. It also seeks to build the capacity of Nigeria's Ministry of Health to support the states in meeting national health standards. The project also seeks to reduce the overall burden of disease in Bauchi and Cross River States.Some project activities include: (i) improving the ability of 11 training centres to effectively train frontline health care workers; (ii) providing assistance to support ministries of health, professional associations and regulators to better manage the frontline health care workforce; and (iii) improving the ability of ministries of health to develop, implement and manage evidence-based health policies and programs that allow for better long-term deployment and management of frontline health care workers.The project is implemented in collaboration with the Population Council and the Global Health Workforce Alliance./ Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des nouveau-nés, des enfants, des femmes et des hommes dans les États de Bauchi et de Cross River et réduire la mortalité. The project supports adolescen...ts, particularly girls aged 13-18, in 71 communities in Nigeria and Senegal where teenagers are exposed to high levels of risk to their health. The project is designed to increase healthy behaviours among adolescents to reduce the risks of HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and early/unwanted pregnancies. The project also seeks to better protect adolescents, especially girls, from violence and sexual abuse and improve literacy and vocational skills among participating adolescents. World Renew is working in partnership with Evangelical Lutheran Church of Senegal (EELS) and Evangelical Health Coordination Committee (CECS) in Senegal and Beacon of Hope Initiative (BHI) in Nigeria. / Le projet soutient des adolescents, en particulier des filles de 13 à 18 ans, dans 71 communautés au Nigéria et au Sénégal, où les adolescents sont exposés à de très hauts niveaux de risques pour leur santé. Le projet est conçu pour renforcer les comportements qui réduisent les risques de transmission du VIH/SIDA, de maladies transmises sexuellement et qui réduisent les risques de grossesses précoces ou non-souhaitées parmi les adolescents. Il vise également à améliorer la protection des adolescents, spécialement les filles, contre la violence et l'abus sexuel, et à améliorer le niveau d'alphabétisation et les compétences professionnelles parmi les participants adolescents. One of the poorest countries i...n the world, Pakistan has been afflicted by both societal turmoil and natural disasters during the past decade. The resulting decline of an already-frail economy has made inequalities even more prominent. This development has acutely affected the health sector, which bears the burden of care for the poorest and is suffering from an increasingly dire loss of public funding. In order to address the country's woefully inadequate system of health care for the poor, the Pakistani health policy think tank Heartfile has developed an innovative model of health financing. It consists in enrolling health facilities (mainly in the public sector) to join together in order to provide catastrophic health coverage to the poorest. The Heartfile Health Financing (HHF) model has a technology interface that assesses a patient's poverty status and verifies it through linkage with a national database. HHF has been working at the tertiary care level so far, but is intended to cover primary care as well. This grant will enable an assessment of how the present model can be scaled up the primary care level. Using interviews and group discussions from the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of HHF, this assessment will help improve the model and adapt it to the primary care level. Ultimately the project aims at having HHF contribute to the goal of universal health coverage in Pakistan. The process of assessment in this project will include a significant component of capacity building for the organization's staff, particularly in the area of research. The provision of training in research methods and support for more formal training (such as doctoral training of staff) will help ensure that research systems are in-built and ongoing as HHF scales up to the primary care level.

This project is designed to al...leviate poverty in select communities of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) through improved livelihoods, basic development services, income-generating opportunities and improved local governance. The project works to strengthen up to 100 traditional indigenous community organizations (representing up to 30,000 individuals) and gradually make them more broad-based and inclusive. The project also provides strategic support designed to improve livelihoods within the context of the local economy, with a focus on infrastructure and activities that improve crop and livestock productivity, as well as community schools, adult literacy centres ,and health services in accordance with community needs. Finally, the project supports a strengthened interface between community organizations and relevant local government bodies. / Ce projet vise à réduire la pauvreté dans les collectivités sélectionnées des zones tribales sous administration fédérale par l amélioration des moyens de subsistance, des services en développement de base, des possibilités de génération de revenus ainsi que par une meilleure gouvernance locale. Le projet travaille à renforcer jusqu à 100 organisations communautaires traditionnelles (représentant environ 30 000 individus) et à les amener graduellement à agrandir leurs bases et à être plus inclusives. Le projet fournit également un soutien stratégique visant l amélioration des moyens de subsistance dans le contexte de l économie locale en mettant l emphase sur les infrastructures et les activités d amélioration de la production des cultures agricoles et du cheptel, ainsi que des écoles communautaires, des centres d alphabétisation pour les adultes et des services de santé, selon les besoins des collectivités. Finalement, le projet soutient le renforcement de l interface entres les organisations communautaires et les autorités pertinentes du gouvernement local.

The project aims to improve hu...man development outcomes in Africa and Asia through four components: (i) strengthening health systems in Central Asia to ensure that people have access to quality health care and information provided by qualified staff in well-equipped facilities; (ii) strengthening education systems in eastern Africa to improve the quality of education for students at the pre-primary and primary school levels; (iii) improving the ability of civil society organizations in Africa and Asia to promote gender equality, integrate climate change adaptation in their programming, and develop innovative means of helping people improve their livelihoods; and (iv) helping Canadians become more aware of and involved in international development. The project supports a regional approach to strengthening health and education systems by engaging partner agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network in Africa and Asia. The project aims to improve hu...man development outcomes in Africa and Asia through four components: (i) strengthening health systems in Central Asia to ensure that people have access to quality health care and information provided by qualified staff in well-equipped facilities; (ii) strengthening education systems in eastern Africa to improve the quality of education for students at the pre-primary and primary school levels; (iii) improving the ability of civil society organizations in Africa and Asia to promote gender equality, integrate climate change adaptation in their programming, and develop innovative means of helping people improve their livelihoods; and (iv) helping Canadians become more aware of and involved in international development. The project supports a regional approach to strengthening health and education systems by engaging partner agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network in Africa and Asia. It also works in partnership with local governments and civil society organizations. / Le projet vise à améliorer les résultats en matière de développment humain en Afrique et en Asie et il est composé de quatre volets: (i) le renforcement des systèmes de santé en Asie centrale pour assurer que les personnes aient accès à de l'information et des soins de santé de qualité fournis par un personnel qualifié et des installations bien équipées, (ii) le renforcement des systèmes d'éducation en Afrique de l'Est pour améliorer la qualité de l'éducation des élèves du préscolaire et du primaire, (iii) l'amélioration de la capacité des organisations de la société civile en Afrique et en Asie à promouvoir l'égalité entre les sexes et à intégrer l'adaptation au changement climatique dans leur programmation tout en développant des moyens novateurs pour aider les personnes à améliorer leurs moyens de subsistance, (iv) la sensibilisation et la mobilisation accrues des Canadiens au développement international. This project aims to improve t...he health and nutrition of newborns, children under five, and women of reproductive age in the Segou region of Mali, and in the Swabi district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan by improving the availability and use of health and nutrition services at the community level. Benefiting an estimated 330,000 children, 161,000 women and 1,600 local Ministry of Health workers, the project promotes the use of quality health, nutrition and family planning services, and improved health, nutrition and family planning behaviours of caregivers and family members. Activities include: training local Ministry of Health partners to support and supervise community health workers; training community health workers to assess and treat sick children, and provide family planning services; and educating families about healthy behaviours, signs of illnesses and seeking care. Save the Children Canada is working with the Mali and Pakistan ministries of health on this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Ce projet améliore la santé et l'alimentation des nouveau-nés, des enfants de moins de cinq ans et des femmes en âge de procréer dans la région de Sikasso au Mali et du district de Swabi dans la province de Khyber Pakhtunkhwa au Pakistan, en assurant la disponibilité et l'utilisation des services de santé et de nutrition au niveau communautaire. Pour le bénéfice d'environ 330 000 enfants, 161 000 femmes et 1 600 travailleurs du ministère de la santé local, le projet favorise l'utilisation des services de santé, de nutrition et de planification familiale et améliore les comportements face à la santé, à la nutrition et à la planification familiale des pourvoyeurs de soins et des membres de la famille. This project aims to provide g...reater access to primary health care, including basic dental and gynecological services, to poor indigenous women and their families living in remote, mountainous areas of south-eastern Peru. Using three mobile clinics, professionals from private and public health institutions tour villages to deliver quality health services to beneficiaries at substantially lower costs than market price. The project is in line with the Peruvian government s strategy to facilitate access to health care for poor and vulnerable populations and is complementary to Peru s national health insurance system. The project is implemented by Impact First International (formerly GEMS of Hope), in collaboration with Pro Mujer Peru. This is one of two parts of a project valued at $319,723. The first part has been completed. / Ce projet vise à donner un meilleur accès aux soins de santé primaires, incluant des soins dentaires de base et des services gynécologiques, aux femmes autochtones pauvres et à leurs familles vivant dans des régions reculées et montagneuses au sud-est du Pérou. Des professionnels d institutions de santé publiques et privées parcourent les villages avec trois cliniques mobiles et offrent des soins de santé aux bénéficiaires à des coûts beaucoup plus bas que ceux du marché. Le projet est en lien avec la stratégie du gouvernement péruvien visant à faciliter l accès aux soins de santé aux plus pauvres et vulnérables de la société. This project aims to enhance t...he quality of maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) care in Rwandan health facilities. The project focuses on strengthening midwifery and paediatric nursing programs, developing educational capacity to deliver professional development and providing an enabling environment for policy development. Project activities include: designing and launching advanced courses in neonatology and paediatrics, including a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) Midwifery Program; strengthening medical faculty competencies in MNCH; and contributing to national health policy and planning. Ten midwifery faculty members per year participate in the proposed faculty development activities, followed by 30 students enrolled the year the Midwifery BSc is offered. The Western University is working in partnership with the Kigali Health Institute and the National University of Rwanda on this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. The maximum CIDA contribution to this project includes $10,000 for monitoring purposes. / Le projet rehausse la qualité des soins de santé pour les mères, les nouveau-nés et les enfants dans les établissements de santé du Rwanda. Le projet renforce les programmes de sages-femmes et d'infirmières pédiatriques, développe la capacité à enseigner le développement professionnel et fournit un environnement favorable au développement de politiques. Les activités du projet comprennent la conception et le lancement de cours avancés en néonatalogie et en pédiatrie, y compris un programme de sages-femmes menant à un baccalauréat ès Sciences (BSc), le renforcement des compétences de la faculté de médecine en matière de santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, et en contribuant à la planification et aux politiques nationales en matière de santé. Dix membres du corps enseignants du programme de sages-femmes participent chaque année aux activités de développement, qui vont culminer avec l'inscription de 30 étudiants prévue l'année que le BSc de sage-femme est offert. The project seeks to improve m...onitoring and control of public spending, to give citizens greater access to their government's financial information, to improve transparency in natural resources management and to build the Government's capacity to combat corruption. This project provides budget support and technical assistance to the Government of Senegal in implementing its national development strategy. As with all budget support initiatives, Canada works in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Senegal to promote the transparency and effectiveness of national systems and to strengthen mutual accountability. This type of support also favours greater policy dialogue among donors, the Government and partners. This helps to strengthen efforts to obtain focused and effective aid, as well as long-term development results. This initiative is monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis with other donors. / Le projet cherche à améliorer le suivi et le contrôle des dépenses publiques, à accroitre l'accès des citoyens et citoyennes aux renseignements financiers de leur gouvernement, à améliorer la transparence de la gestion des ressources naturelles et à renforcer la capacité du gouvernement de lutter contre la corruption. Ce projet accorde un appui budgétaire et une assistance technique au gouvernement du Sénégal pour la mise en oeuvre de sa Stratégie de développement national. Comme c'est les cas pour toutes les initiatives d'appui budgétaire, le Canada travaille en étroite collaboration avec d'autres bailleurs de fonds et le gouvernement du Sénégal pour favoriser la responsabilisation, la transparence et l'efficacité des systèmes nationaux et renforcer la responsabilité mutuelle. Ce type d'appui favorise également un plus grand dialogue sur les politiques parmi les donateurs, le gouvernement et les partenaires, ce qui contribue à renforcer les efforts déployés pour fournir une aide ciblée et efficace et obtenir des résultats de développement à long terme. Le suivi et l'évaluation continu de cette initiative sont réalisés de concert avec d'autres donateurs.
