Toward More Equitable Primary ...Health Care in Argentina and Latin America through Intersectoral Approaches

Improving primary health care ...for everyone requires an effort that extends beyond the formal health sector. This project will examine the value of intersectoral collaborations at the primary healthcare level to generate practical guidance and a theoretical understanding of how these arrangements can influence health equity in Argentina and Latin America. Intersectoral efforts in the healthcare industry are projects and programs involving multiple sectors working together to improve health and well-being. This requires collaboration and coordination between the formal health sector and other sectors such as social welfare, education, environment, transportation, justice, sanitation, and industry. The World Health Organization, regional bodies, and national and subnational health authorities are increasingly promoting intersectoral approaches that examine the range of social determinants of health that influence access to primary health care. The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, live, work, and age. The distribution of money, power, and resources shape these determinants. While researchers have explored the benefits of intersectoral collaborations in health, there is limited practical guidance on how to establish and evaluate these activities. More evidence is needed to understand how these collaborations influence health equity. In the Santa Fe province of Argentina, the Ministry of Health has identified intersectoral collaboration as a priority. Santa Fe primary care health workers and managers are creating grassroots linkages with other sectors to facilitate their work. This convergence of political and operational interest in intersectoral partnerships at the provincial and municipal levels is critical to this project. The project team is composed of researchers and decision-makers. They will collect primary and secondary data using literature reviews, existing population health databases, and key informant interviews. Research outputs will include scientific papers and policy briefs describing achievements, challenges, and lessons learned. The team will build a virtual Latin American community of practice focused on intersectoral collaborations for health. Findings will be integrated into course curricula for a master's in health systems and services management and a certificate in intersectoral primary health care management offered by Rosario University. This research is expected to expand the knowledge base of proven practices to advance greater intersectoral collaboration in Santa Fe province and other parts of the region.

This project contributes to th...e planning and logistics of the 2014 Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) Partners Forum, which is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 29 to July 1, 2014. The Forum brings together over 800 international key stakeholders working in the field of maternal, newborn and child health, including stakeholders from developing countries, non-governmental organizations, government, multilateral organizations, universities, the private sector, and youth groups. The Forum offers an opportunity to: (1) develop a strategic vision for the reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health community for the post-2015 era; (2) review lessons learned from achievements to date to inform and guide future investments and action; and (3) strengthen the implementation of existing commitments and promote greater accountability for women and children s health to 2015 and beyond. / Ce projet contribue à la planification et à la logistique du Forum des partenaires 2014 du Partenariat pour la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants (PSMNE), qui a lieu à Johannesburg, en Afrique du Sud, du 29 juin au 1er juillet 2014. Le Forum rassemble plus de 800 importants intervenants internationaux qui travaillent dans le domaine de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, y compris des intervenants de pays en développement, d organisations non gouvernementales, de gouvernements, d organisations multilatérales, d universités, du secteur privé et de groupes de jeunes. Le Forum donne l occasion : 1) d élaborer une vision stratégique pour la communauté de la santé génésique et de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants pour l après-2015; 2) d examiner les leçons tirées des réalisations jusqu à maintenant afin d éclairer et d orienter les mesures et les investissements d avenir; 3) de renforcer la mise en oeuvre des engagements actuels et de promouvoir une plus grande responsabilisation à l égard de la santé des femmes et des enfants pour 2015 et par la suite.

The project forms the cornerstone of Canada's support for achieving development objectives in the health sector in Bangladesh and its main focus is to help implement the Ministry's Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Development Program. The project activities include: (1) improving the financial management of the Ministry's aid budget; (2) procuring obstetric drugs and family planning supplies in low performing districts with high maternal, newborn and child mortality rates; (3) updating the regulatory framework for the accreditation of health personnel; (4) improving the planning, development and management of human resources for health; (5) increasing the availability of maternal health services; and (6) developing and implementing a monitoring and evaluation plan within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As with all pooled funding initiatives, Canada is working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Bangladesh to focus on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increase donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthen mutual accountability. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors, which include the World Bank, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, Germany and the United States. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé de l'ensemble de la population vivant dans les districts du Bangladesh, en renforçant la gestion du système public de soins de santé par le ministère de la Santé et du Bien-être de la famille et en améliorant les services de santé publique. The project aims to improve th...e health of mothers and infants by addressing the medical, cultural and social factors affecting maternal and child health in 100 villages of Chittagong District in Bangladesh. Some project activities include: (1) establishing two community health centres and outreach facilities for women and their children; (2) training 100 traditional birth attendants on all aspects of safe home deliveries; (3) training peer educators to promote maternal and child health; and (4) establishing several community groups such as mothers clubs, community health groups, water and sanitation action committees, to encourage community animation, community organization, and leadership development among community members on reproductive, maternal and child health and other health issues. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé maternelle et infantile au moyen d interventions qui tiennent compte des facteurs médicaux, sociaux et culturels pouvant affecter la santé maternelle et infantile dans 100 villages du district de Chittagong, au Bangladesh. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) la mise en place de deux centres de santé communautaire et de services de proximité pour les femmes et leurs enfants; 2) la formation de 100 accoucheuses traditionnelles au sujet des aspects entourant les accouchements sécuritaires à domicile; 3) la formation de pairs éducateurs pour promouvoir la santé maternelle et infantile; 4) la création de plusieurs groupes communautaires tels que des clubs de mères, des groupes de santé communautaire et des comités d action en matière d approvisionnement en eau et d assainissement, pour favoriser l animation et l organisation communautaires ainsi que le développement des qualités de chef chez les membres des communautés relativement à la santé génésique, maternelle et infantile et à d autres problèmes de santé.

This project aims to improve m...aternal, newborn, child and adolescent health in three union parishads (UPs) in southern and central Bangladesh. The project is designed to strengthen health systems for improved service delivery and to facilitate the creation of over 100 health-focused community groups in order to support improved behaviours in health areas identified as major causes of mother and child mortality. Activities include: constructing, equipping, and operating clinics in three UPs; facilitating community-led improvements in the accountability of healthcare providers, and conducting community awareness campaigns on maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health issues. The three local clinics established by the project are expected to provide services for 22,000 men, women, and children. In addition, some 6,000 women, 3,000 men, and 4,500 adolescents, children, and infants are expected to benefit from increased knowledge of how to prevent and treat health problems. HOPE International Development Agency is working in partnership with South Asia Partnership Bangladesh to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés, des enfants et des adolescents dans trois « union parishads » (UP) dans le Sud et au centre du Bangladesh. Le projet prévoit renforcer les systèmes de santé à prodiguer des services améliorés, et faciliter la création de plus de 100 groupes de santé communautaire pour soutenir des comportements améliorés dans les domaines de santé identifiés comme étant les principales causes de mortalité chez les mères et les enfants. This project aims to improve t...he health of the most marginalized mothers and children in the Dimla sub-district of Nilphamari district, Bangladesh, and in the Lilongwe and Ntchisi districts of Malawi. The project is designed to improve partnerships between communities and health facilities, train community volunteer health workers, and use community education to promote household behaviours that improve the health of mothers and children. Using an integrated model for managing childhood illness, the project supports community health volunteers in providing malaria prevention and nutrition education at the household level and linking communities with maternal and child health services. The project reaches 200 community health volunteers, traditional birth attendants and informal health service providers, as well as 150,000 mothers and their children. World Renew is working in partnership with Scheme for Under-Privileged People to Organize Themselves (Bangladesh) and the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, Nkhoma Relief and Development (Malawi) to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's maternal, newborn and child health commitment. / Ce projet améliore la santé des mères et des enfants les plus marginalisés du sous-district de Dimla dans le district de Nilphamari au Bangladesh, et des districts de Lilongwe et de Ntchisi au Malawi. This project aims to increase ...access to, and use of, maternal and child health and disability (MCHD) services and contribute to a reduction in mortality and disability rates in Bangladesh, where the infant and maternal mortality rates are among the highest in the world. By strengthening and building on existing community health services, the project establishes interprofessional teams of community health and rehabilitation personnel with the capacity to respond to MCHD needs, and raises awareness among community members about the importance of using such services. Over 1,000 maternal, child health and disability workers, community health workers, policy makers and 12,000 community members are expected to benefit from training, education, policy advice and coordination. Queen's University is working in partnership with the Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (Bangladesh) and the Bangladesh Health Professions Institute to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. The project aims to improve he...alth among mothers, newborns and children under the age of five in 130 Bangladeshi villages. Using a community-based approach, the project provides training for 650 traditional birth attendants, establishes 35 village-level maternal and child health centres, and improves access to basic health services for local mothers. Through this project, 63,000 women and mothers, and 94,500 children under five are expected to have, for the first time, regular access to basic prenatal and postnatal care, basic health care, and trained birth attendants. Primate s World Relief and Development Fund is working in partnership with local partner Policy Research for Development Alternative (UBINIG) on this project. This project is part of Canada s maternal, newborn and child health commitment. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé chez les mères, les nouveau-nés et les enfants de moins de cinq ans dans 130 villages ciblés du Bangladesh. Through demonstration sites where innovative approaches are tested, the project works with communities, midwives, and hospital care providers to improve diagnostics and early intervention of childhood infections, and strengthen health systems. The project provides training for 60 midwives and birth attendants, 45 nurses and doctors, 100 primary health care providers and 12 paramedics. It also aims to improve health care responses to suspected sepsis episodes, benefiting 18,400 pregnant women and their newborns and 16,600 children under the age of five. The University of British Columbia is working in partnership with the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. Activities include: training government health workers on basic obstetric and neonatal care, safe deliveries, and management of childhood illnesses; training health facility managers to strengthen quality control; equipping 63 health facilities and 30 maternity wards; conducting home visits for postnatal care; and helping communities address traditional cultural views impeding the use of health services. Plan Canada is working with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, UNICEF and ministries of health, to implement this project. The purpose of the project is ...to strengthen institutional and community capacity to support a sustainable primary health care system and increase survival rates and the development of children and mothers in 26 targeted municipalities of Bolivia. The project facilitates collaboration between the Government of Bolivia and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to achieve the objectives of Bolivia's priority health programs, and the Family, Community, and Intercultural Health Model. The project helps the Ministry of Health in Bolivia to scale-up the successful Community Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses framework and to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in health among vulnerable populations in Bolivia, including the poor, women and children. / Le but de ce projet est de renforcer les capacités institutionnelles et communautaires en appui à un système de santé durable et à l'amélioration de la survie et du développement des enfants et des mères dans 26 municipalités ciblées de Bolivie. The purpose of the project is ...to strengthen institutional and community capacity to support a sustainable primary health care system and increase survival rates and the development of children and mothers in 26 targeted municipalities of Bolivia. The project facilitates collaboration between the Government of Bolivia and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to achieve the objectives of Bolivia's priority health programs, and the Family, Community, and Intercultural Health Model. The project helps the Ministry of Health in Bolivia to scale-up the successful Community Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses framework and to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in health among vulnerable populations in Bolivia, including the poor, women and children. / Le but de ce projet est de renforcer les capacités institutionnelles et communautaires en appui à un système de santé durable et à l'amélioration de la survie et du développement des enfants et des mères dans 26 municipalités ciblées de Bolivie. This volunteer sending program... supports the assignment of 3,931 Canadian and developing-country volunteers with partner organizations in developing countries. The program aims to support partner organizations working on health and environment-related initiatives through projects in the following sectors: (1) primary health care; (2) family planning and reproductive health care; (3) food and nutrition; (4) environmental conservation, pollution prevention, and capacity building in environmental management; and (5) equality between women and men. The program also includes a public engagement component that furthers the promotion of development awareness in Canada. An amount of $80,622 has been added to the total amount for each of the Volunteer Cooperation Agency programs for CIDA-led program evaluations. / Ce programme d envoi de volontaires soutient la mission de 3 931 bénévoles Canadiens et ceux provenant des pays en développement, en collaboration avec les organisations partenaires dans les pays en développement. Le programme vise à soutenir les organisations partenaires qui travaillent dans des initiatives liées à la santé et à l environnement dans les secteurs suivants : 1) les soins de santé de base; 2) la planification familiale et des soins liés à la fonction reproductive; 3) l alimentation et à la nutrition; 4) la conservation de l environnement, la prévention de la pollution et le développement des capacités en matière de gestion de l environnement; 5) l égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Le programme comprend également un élément d engagement du public pour davantage favoriser la sensibilisation au développement au Canada. Un montant de 80 622 $ a été ajouté au montant total pour chaque programme des organisations de coopération volontaire, pour les évaluations de programmes menées par l ACDI.

This project aims to help impr...ove the health of mothers, newborns and children in the Koudougou, Gayéri, Manni and Solenzo health districts of Burkina Faso. The project focuses on improving existing health systems by building the capacity of local Health and Social Promotion Centres covering 107 villages; improving the knowledge and skills of local health staff; and improving access to nutritious food for mothers and children. Reaching 80,000 newborns and 125,000 pregnant women and mothers, the project is designed to train 200 doctors, nurses, and midwives in reproductive health, and the management of health and nutrition services. World University Service of Canada is working in partnership with Conseil burkinabè d'appui aux associations et ONG de lutte contre le VIH/sida (BURCASO) and Centre d'information de conseil et de documentation sur le sida et la tuberculose to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants des districts de santé de Koudougou, Gayéri, Manni et Solenzo au Burkina Faso. This project aims to improve t...he health of people living in 251 rural villages in Mozambique, Tanzania and Burundi by increasing their access to primary health care and clean water, promoting good health habits, and improving the agricultural yield of smallholder farmers. Most illnesses and deaths in the project villages are due to preventable diseases, lack of access to trained health workers and lack of access to clean water and adequate food. The project therefore seeks to increase the number of community health workers, provide bicycle ambulances to remote villages, build or expand basic health infrastructure where most needed, and enhance access to clean water by refurbishing old wells and building new ones. The project also educates women, men and children on sexual reproductive health, proper nutrition and sanitation, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and gender issues, and trains both women and men farmers on best practices in sustainable agriculture. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des populations de 194 villages ruraux au Mozambique, en Tanzanie et au Burundi en augmentant l'accès aux soins de santé primaire et à l'eau potable, en faisant la promotion de saines habitudes de vie et en améliorant le rendement agricole des petits exploitants. Le projet contribue à augmenter le nombre de travailleurs communautaires dans le secteur de la santé, à fournir des vélos-ambulances aux villages éloignés, à construire ou à agrandir des infrastructures de santé de base dans les collectivités qui en ont le plus besoin et à améliorer l'accès à l'eau potable en creusant ou en rénovant des puits. Le projet enseigne également aux femmes, aux hommes et aux enfants les principes de santé sexuelle et génésique, de nutrition et d'hygiène, de santé maternelle et infantile, de prévention du VIH/sida et d'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Une formation sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'agriculture durable est également donnée aux agriculteurs et agricultrices.

This project aims to rehabilit...ate the health care system in the rural periphery of the Democratic Republic of Congo s (DRC) capital, Kinshasa, in an effort to improve the quality of life of the thousands of people who do not have access to basic health services. CIDA plans to achieve this goal through the rehabilitation of the health care system s infrastructure, an increase in the capacities of those with authority in the health district of N sele, and the support of grassroot community organizations. The project responds to the need for support in the areas of women and children s health, reproductive health and the campaign against HIV/AIDS. / Ce projet vise à remettre sur pied le système de soins de santé dans les zones rurales à la périphérie de la capitale de la République démocratique du Congo (RDC), Kinshasa, dans le but d améliorer la qualité de vie des milliers de gens qui ne bénéficient pas d un accès à des services de santé de base. L ACDI prévoit atteindre cet objectif par le redressement de l infrastructure du système de soins de santé, le renforcement des capacités des décideurs dans le district sanitaire de N sele et par l appui des organismes communautaires de la base. Ce projet répond aux besoins d appui dans les domaines de la santé des femmes et des enfants et de la santé génésique et dans le cadre de la campagne de lutte contre le VIH/sida.

It also aims to develop and reinforce the leadership capacity of the management teams to allow for an effective and efficient management of the health system. This project aims to reduce ma...ternal and infant mortality rates by strengthening health services in the Bunia and Djugu health districts. The project focuses on the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV and the provision of proper care for HIV/AIDS-affected children; training health care providers; educating and informing communities; and strengthening the administration of health care. Activities include: awareness raising activities on preventing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS, and mother-to-child transmission of HIV; updating training materials on obstetric and neonatal care, family planning, and assistance to women who are victims of violence; providing health care supplies and medicines; and rehabilitation of maternity hospitals. The project reaches 48,444 pregnant women, 230 health care workers, and 3,400 newborns with HIV-positive mothers. Oxfam Québec is working in partnership with Union congolaise des organisations des personnes vivant avec le VIH/sida to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Ce projet réduit les taux de mortalité des mères et des nouveau-nés en renforçant les services de santé des districts de santé de Bunia et Djugu. Le projet se concentre sur la prévention de la transmission du VIH/SIDA de la mère à l'enfant et la provision de soins adéquats pour les enfants atteints du VIH/SIDA. Il vise également la formation des fournisseurs de soins de santé, l'éducation et l'information aux communautés, et le renforcement de la gestion des soins de santé. Les activités comprennent la sensibilisation sur la prévention de la transmission de maladies transmises sexuellement et le VIH/SIDA, ainsi que la transmission du VIH de mère à enfant. This project aims to improve t...he family income of over 450,000 people (60% women, 50% youth) through improved market networks and vocational training. It also aims to strengthen the capacity of local partners and over 220 communities (35,000 people; 80% women, 25% youth) to implement and monitor strategies to (1) reduce malnutrition; (2) improve child, maternal, and community health; and (3) provide support for vulnerable segments of the population, such as people living with HIV/AIDS (9,600 people; 65 % women, 25% youth). In addition, the project increases women's capacity to participate in household and community decision-making, as well as reinforcing the infrastructure (water, electricity, and equipment) and upgrading staff training at seven hospitals and community health clinics. / Ce projet vise à améliorer les revenus familiaux de plus de 450 000 personnes (60 % femmes, 50 % jeunes) à travers des réseaux de marché améliorés et la formation professionnelle. Il vise aussi à renforcer la capacité des partenaires locaux et de plus de 220 collectivités (35 000 personnes; 80 % femmes, 25 % jeunes) de mettre en oeuvre et de contrôler des stratégies visant à 1) réduire la malnutrition; 2) améliorer la santé maternelle, infantile et communautaire; 3) fournir un soutien aux personnes vulnérables comme celles vivant avec le VIH/sida (9 600 personnes; 65 % femmes, 25 % jeunes). It will also fund research programs, including the Africa Health System Initiative Support to African Research Partnership, HIV/AIDS Prevention Trials Capacity Building Grants Phase 2, the Canadian International Immunization Initiative for Haiti, and the Ecohealth Emerging Infectious Diseases Research Competition in Southeast Asia. As well, a new flagship program will focus on strengthening health systems and addressing maternal, newborn, and child health challenges in LMICs by supporting research on community-based primary health care. These programs will strengthen the capacities of LMIC and Canadian researchers and decision-makers in generating, sharing, and applying research on global health.

The project supports a regional approach to strengthening health and education systems by engaging partner agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network in Africa and Asia. This project aims to improve m...aternal, newborn and child health in three remote and underserved districts in Ethiopia: Damot Pulasa, Arsi Negele and Adaa. In order to address the high rates of mortality in these areas, the project focuses on addressing existing gaps in the health systems, and problems related to the prevalence of killer diseases and malnutrition. Reaching around 120,000 women, newborns and children, project activities include: training health workers and traditional birth attendants on safe, clean delivery, nutrition and improved child-feeding practices, and emergency obstetric care; distributing medical equipment for health centres; establishing neonatal care units; and education on sanitation and hygiene, and malaria prevention. The project also aims to train mothers in home-based management of common childhood illnesses. Using a community-based approach the project is expected to lead to behaviour changes, which are expected to have a positive impact on maternal, newborn and child health in the targeted regions. To implement this project, the Christian Children's Fund of Canada is working in partnership with : Bole Bible Baptist Church Child Care and Community Development, Ratson-Women, the Youth and Children Development Program, and the Wolaitta Kale Heywot Church Terepeza Development Association. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. The goal of this project is to... strengthen Ethiopia's health systems in order to deliver effective maternal, newborn and child health services to nomadic communities in the Omo Valley. Using a community-based approach, the project aims to: increase the number of pregnant women accessing health services; increase the proportion of health facilities providing comprehensive health care; and reduce nutritional deficiencies that affect safe childbirth and development. Activities include: training midwives and health workers on emergency obstetric and newborn care, and the diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and waterborne diseases; training nurses on safe and clean childbirth; and providing ambulances and laboratory equipment to three health facilities. The African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) Canada is working with AMREF Ethiopia to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. This project contributes to th...e planning and logistics of the 2014 Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) Partners Forum, which is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 29 to July 1, 2014. The Forum brings together over 800 international key stakeholders working in the field of maternal, newborn and child health, including stakeholders from developing countries, non-governmental organizations, government, multilateral organizations, universities, the private sector, and youth groups. The Forum offers an opportunity to: (1) develop a strategic vision for the reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health community for the post-2015 era; (2) review lessons learned from achievements to date to inform and guide future investments and action; and (3) strengthen the implementation of existing commitments and promote greater accountability for women and children s health to 2015 and beyond. / Ce projet contribue à la planification et à la logistique du Forum des partenaires 2014 du Partenariat pour la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants (PSMNE), qui a lieu à Johannesburg, en Afrique du Sud, du 29 juin au 1er juillet 2014. Le Forum rassemble plus de 800 importants intervenants internationaux qui travaillent dans le domaine de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, y compris des intervenants de pays en développement, d organisations non gouvernementales, de gouvernements, d organisations multilatérales, d universités, du secteur privé et de groupes de jeunes. Le Forum donne l occasion : 1) d élaborer une vision stratégique pour la communauté de la santé génésique et de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants pour l après-2015; 2) d examiner les leçons tirées des réalisations jusqu à maintenant afin d éclairer et d orienter les mesures et les investissements d avenir; 3) de renforcer la mise en oeuvre des engagements actuels et de promouvoir une plus grande responsabilisation à l égard de la santé des femmes et des enfants pour 2015 et par la suite.

This project is a continuation... of Canada's support towards multi-donor budget support (MDBS). As with all budget support initiatives, Canada is working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Ghana to promote effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increase donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthen mutual accountability. Budgetary support also fosters greater policy dialogue among donors, government, and partners, which helps to strengthen efforts for effective, focussed aid, and long-term development results. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors. Sustaining Growth and Development in Ghana (SGDG) contributes to the sustainable growth of public revenues as Ghana solidifies its status as a middle-income country. As a contribution to the national budget, the initiative supports the Ministry of Finance and the national government in the delivery of services to Ghana's 25 million citizens. Project activities include: (1) strengthening of the Government's macroeconomic planning and fiscal management capacity; (2) strengthening technical and management expertise to improve national planning for poverty reduction and delivery of basic services; and (3) improving budget credibility and public financial management systems. By improving public financial governance and contributing to a stable macroeconomic environment, this project improves the confidence of the private sector to invest in Ghana and reduce barriers to private sector development. / Par ce projet, le Canada continue d'appuyer un soutien budgétaire multidonateurs.
