BREAKTHROUGH - Research

Breakthrough-RESEARCH will con...vene and engage a broad range of health and development stakeholders, supporting them in developing, promoting, and operationalizing visionary, consensus-driven agendas for Social and Behavior Change (SBC) research that contribute to measurable global health impact by providing the evidence needed to increase the practice of priority health behaviors and enable social norms for improved health and development outcomes. This may include, for example, synthesizing evidence and building consensus around SBC research agendas, designing and implementing high-priority SBC studies, and developing research utilization strategies and products tailored to end-users. Breakthrough-RESEARCH may also conduct performance and impact evaluations of SBC activities implemented through Mission bilateral or other central projects.

Through the Research for Decis...ion Makers activity, USAID supports implementation research on priority health areas, provides advisory services to the Government of Bangladesh (GOB) for health policy work, and builds health sector research capacity. This activity will initiate eight implementation research studies on family planning, maternal and newborn health, nutrition and tuberculosis. These studies will inform USAID and the GOB on programmatic strategies to improve utilization of health services and health outcomes. The results of these studies will provide the evidence base to support policy analysis and programmatic guidance to assist the GOB, USAID, and other partners in strategic decision-making on health. The activity supports Bangladesh's national health policy and its investments in health.

|
The Partnerships for Enhanced ...Engagement in Research (PEER) program is administered by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS). PEER is a competitive grants program that invites scientists in developing countries, partnered with USG-supported collaborators, to apply for funds to support research and capacity-building activities on topics with strong potential development impacts. This innovative program is designed to leverage the investments other USG-supported agencies have made in scientific research and training while supporting the initiatives of developing country scientists.

Building on decades of USAIDs ...work procuring health commodities and strengthening supply chains, the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project is working to transform global and national supply chains for health commodities. The project integrates two former USAID programs into one efficient supply chain that serves many of the worlds most vulnerable and difficult-to-reach communities. The project is designed to meet todays critical global health challenges eliminating HIV and AIDS, providing universal malaria coverage, and helping women meet their family planning and reproductive health needs. By bringing together advanced technical solutions, a team of highly qualified experts, and proven commercial processes and principles, USAID Global Health Supply Chain works to reduce costs and increase efficiencies in global and national supply chains. In addition to optimizing supply chains, the project is strengthening national supply chain systems and fostering collaboration among supply chain stakeholders worldwide.

Australia-Indonesia Partnershi...p For Maternal And Neonatal Health: Program Management
more
|
The Australia-Indonesia Partne...rship (AIP) for Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) aims for selected provincial and district governments in Eastern Indonesia to have mechanisms in place to manage national, local and donor resources to achieve national target levels for priority indicators contained within the Indonesian National Making Pregnancy Safer (MPS) Strategy. The objectives are: provincial and district governments develop and implement maternal and neonatal health (MNH) programs based on the national MPS strategy and address supply and demand aspects to achieve annual performance targets; provincial and district government agencies and communities access and manage the technical, human and financial resources needed to achieve improvements in MNH; and provincial and district governments manage Government of Indonesia (GoI) and donor resources to improve accountability, performance, accessibility and sustainability of public health services. The total value of this initiative is $76.4 million over 8 years, starting 2006-07.

The Pacific Police Development... Program aims to modernise policing and criminal justice legislation. This allows police to respond more effectively to law and justice issues, including violence against women, corruption, and transnational crime. The Australian Attorney-Generals works with the host country and the Australian Federal Police to develop and implement key components of an improved criminal justice framework. Assistance includes: advice and guidance on domestic legal regimes; capacity building to develop and draft legislation, and help its passage through the necessary parliamentary procedures; and providing support with practical implementation, including development of guidelines and training on the operation of laws.
