Targeted technical assistance and capacity building will focus on the implementation of the CEFM and GE Strategies of the Ministry of Education, including measures to combat SGBV. It also contributes to the Africa target./

This program aims to reduce vi...olence against women and girls, and the prevalence of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) through coordinated prevention and response activities in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Philippines. Project activities include: 1) creating an enabling environment to prevent violence against women and girls by engaging key community leaders (including religious, private sector and political) and youth in advancing women's leadership and women's rights, 2) improving access to economic opportunities and to services such as shelters, and legal and psycho-social support, 3) reinforcing the use of innovative knowledge, including best and emerging practices, and accountability systems to end violence against women and girls, and CEFM. This project reaches 245,000 direct and 980,000 indirect beneficiaries (mainly women and girls). / Ce programme vise à réduire la violence faite aux femmes et aux filles et diminuer la prévalence des mariages d'enfants, précoces et forcés (MEPF) par la mise en place d'activités coordonnées de prévention et d'intervention au Bangladesh, en Indonésie, au Népal, au Pakistan et aux Philippines. This project works with women ...and other victims of gender-based violence to strengthen their ability to effectively engage in transitional justice measures; seeks to ensure that states and state institutions take a gendered approach in the planning, design and implementation of transitional justice measures; and undertakes outreach to international policy makers and organizations to enhance their understanding of the gendered dimensions of human rights violations. The project is focused on Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Syria.• National and international stakeholders can apply knowledge from comparative lessons about effective ways to make transitional justice gender-sensitive when developing and/or promoting relevant policies, initiatives and programs./ Dans le cadre de ce projet, le récipiendaire travaillera avec les femmes et autres victimes de la violence au Népal, au Sri Lanka, en Tunisie et en Syrie pour accroître leur capacité à participer activement aux processus de justice transitionnelle. Ce projet vise aussi à ce que les États et les institutions étatiques adoptent une approche tenant compte du sexe dans la planification, conception et mise en œuvre de mesures en matière de justice transitionnelle. Il permet aussi de faire de la sensibilisation à l'échelle internationale, cette dernière visant à améliorer et construire des normes entourant les aspects fondés sur le sexe des violations des droits de la personne et de la justice transitionnelle.

In support of this goal, the project seeks to increase women's full and effective political participation by; promoting legislative reforms that ensure women's fair access to political life; strengthening the skills of women to run successful electoral campaigns; and training newly elected women leaders to be effective legislators and to champion issues of gender equality. The project aims to contribute... to an increased realization of the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women in Nigeria. Project activities include: (1) improving the knowledge and skills of government social workers and health care workers to provide age and culturally appropriate female genital mutilation/cutting and child, early and forced marriage prevention and treatment services; (2) upgrading health facilities to provide culturally appropriate and gender-sensitive quality services on harmful traditional practices (female genital mutilation/cutting and child, early and forced marriage), as well as obstetric fistula care; (3) supporting advocacy activities carried out by women-led legislative coalitions at community and state levels to domesticate anti-sexual and gender-based violence laws; (4) supporting gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate media activities to raise awareness and mobilize action against harmful traditional practices (female genital mutilation/cutting and child, early and forced marriage) and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence; (5) activating community platforms for dialogue on female genital mutilation/cutting, child, early and forced marriage, and other forms of sexual and gender-based violence to reach boys, men, women, traditional gatekeepers and religious leaders; and (6) raising awareness of women and girls of their rights, and building their knowledge and capacity to take action against all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. The project is expected to directly reach over 300,000 women, girls and boys 10 to 24 years of age, and potentially hundreds of thousands more indirectly in the targeted states. /Le projet vise à améliorer la santé sexuelle et reproductive des femmes au Nigéria ainsi que l'exercice de leurs droits connexes. This project aims to increase ...the capacity of international organizations and transitional justice mechanisms to investigate and prosecute sexual and gender-based violence crimes committed during conflicts by deploying gender-based violence experts to justice and accountability mechanisms around the world. The project also works to provide up to fifteen deployments in response to urgent requests for expertise to support accountability for conflict related sexual and gender-based crimes. / Ce projet vise à renforcer la capacité des organisations internationales et des mécanismes de justice transitionnelle à enquêter sur les crimes de violence sexuelle et sexiste commis pendant les conflits et à en poursuivre les auteurs en déployant des experts en violence sexiste pour les affecter aux mécanismes de justice et de responsabilisation du monde entier. In Pakistan, the legal age for... marriage is 18 for boys and 16 for girls in all but one province. Laws prohibiting marriage of girls under 16 years of age have existed for more than half a century and yet, in 2014, when Shirkat Gah, a women's rights research and advocacy organization, completed a pilot study in the country, they found that knowledge about the law was negligible. Those who were aware of the law were also able to flout it with impunity because, among other things, few births are registered, depriving marriage registrars of hard evidence to prevent under-age marriages. The research revealed that a main driver of early-age marriage was traditional practices. It also identified a new driver in the form of growing religious fundamentalism promoted through madrassahs, mosques, and religious platforms. Thisis pushing greater control by male relatives over young women and girls in the form of withdrawing girls from school, early marriage, often without consent, and a stricter confinement within homes. The pilot study also documented increased risk of discrimination and violence by the husbands and in-laws of the young brides. Control over sexuality passes from birth families to marital families, limiting young women's and girls' mobility and opportunities for growth, including access to education and employment.The Humsathi interventional study will offer insights on how to prevent, build resilience, and improve responses to early-age/forced marriages across diverse communities in Pakistan's four provinces. The study will provide guidelines on how best to leverage change in communities and polices, improve implementation of existing laws, and propose required reforms. The project will partner with girls, boys, and their communities to transform attitudes toward early-age/forced marriages. The results will help to scale up interventions in other regions and countries.

This program aims to reduce vi...olence against women and girls, and the prevalence of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) through coordinated prevention and response activities in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, and Philippines. Project activities include: 1) creating an enabling environment to prevent violence against women and girls by engaging key community leaders (including religious, private sector and political) and youth in advancing women's leadership and women's rights; 2) improving access to economic opportunities and to services such as shelters, and legal and psycho-social support; 3) reinforcing the use of innovative knowledge, including best and emerging practices, and accountability systems to end violence against women and girls, and CEFM. This project reaches 245,000 direct and 980,000 indirect beneficiaries (mainly women and girls)./Ce programme vise à réduire la violence faite aux femmes et aux filles et diminuer la prévalence des mariages d'enfants, précoces et forcés (MEPF) par la mise en place d'activités coordonnées de prévention et d'intervention au Bangladesh, en Indonésie, au Népal, au Pakistan et aux Philippines. Les activités du projet visent à : 1) créer un environnement favorable à la prévention de la violence faite aux femmes et aux filles en mobilisant les principaux dirigeants communautaires (y compris ceux provenant de communautés religieuses, du secteur privé et des milieux politiques) et mobiliser les jeunes pour favoriser le leadership des femmes et la défense de leurs droits; 2) améliorer l'accès aux opportunités économiques et aux services tels les maisons de refuge, et l'appui juridique et psychosocial; et 3) renforcer l'utilisation de connaissances innovatrices afin de mettre fin à la violence faite aux femmes et aux filles et aux MEPF, y compris les pratiques exemplaires et émergentes ainsi que la mise en place de systèmes de responsabilisation. Le projet touche directement 245 000 bénéficiaires et, indirectement, 980 000 bénéficiaires (majoritairement des femmes et des filles).

In Peru, marginalized adolesce...nts face significant barriers to completing their secondary education, which perpetuates their social and economic exclusion. This project aims to support young people, especially indigenous adolescent girls, to exercise their rights and achieve their full potential. This is achieved by improving the education system, namely the curricula and the services offered in schools in order to encourage adolescents to complete their secondary education. The project also aims to improve the health and protection services offered to vulnerable adolescents, in order to ensure an environment conducive to their learning and development. The project aims to ensure adolescents are involved in making decisions that affect them, through social media platforms and artistic expression mechanisms. The project is implemented in two Amazonian regions (Loreto and Ucayali), in one Andean region (Huancavelica) and in the poor suburbs of Lima. The results achieved through these pilots will subsequently be replicated throughout the country./Au Pérou, les adolescents marginalisés sont confrontés à des barrières importantes qui les empêchent de terminer leur éducation secondaire, perpétuant leur exclusion sociale et économique. Ce projet vise à appuyer les adolescents, et particulièrement les adolescentes autochtones, à exercer pleinement leurs droits et atteindre leur plein potentiel. Cet objectif est atteint en améliorant le système d'éducation, soit les curriculums et les services offerts en milieu scolaire, afin de supporter les adolescents et les adolescentes les plus vulnérables à compléter leur secondaire. Le projet vise également l'amélioration des services de santé et de protection offerts aux adolescents vulnérables, afin d'assurer un environnement propice à l'apprentissage et à leur développement. Il est attendu que les adolescents et les adolescentes puissent participer davantage aux prises de décisions qui les concernent, à travers des plateformes de médias sociaux et des mécanismes d'expression artistique. Le projet est mis en œuvre dans deux régions amazoniennes (Loreto et Ucayali) dans une région andine (Huancavelica) et dans les banlieues pauvres de Lima. Les résultats atteints dans ces régions pilotes seront ensuite adoptés à l'échelle du pays.

The project aims to improve Se...xual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescent girls in the Amazon province of Loreto, Peru, which has the highest rate of adolescent pregnancy in the country (31% in 2016). By empowering girls and working with boys and communities, the project helps prevent sexual violence and unwanted pregnancies in one of the poorest regions of Peru.Project activities include: (1) training, workshops and coaching activities with adolescents and youth in coordination with schools, community leaders and families; (2) development and distribution of information on adolescents' SRHR as part of a comprehensive communication strategy; (3) training of health workers and creation of specialised health facilities to improve sexual and reproductive health services for adolescents; (4) training of teachers, tutors and local Ministry of Education staff on comprehensive sexual education for adolescents, including the prevention of violence; and (5) training of youth leaders and networks to increase their capacity to participate in municipal, regional and national decision-making spaces. Project activities are intended to reach 78,000 direct beneficiaries, many of whom are from indigenous communities./Ce projet a pour but d'améliorer la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SSDR) des jeunes filles adolescentes dans la région de Loreto, dans l'Amazonie péruvienne, où l'on trouve le taux le plus élevé de grossesses chez les adolescentes du pays (31% en 2016). En renforcant le pouvoir des femmes et en travaillant auprès des communautés, notamment avec les garçons, le projet contribue à prévenir la violence sexuelle et les grossesses non désirées dans l'une des régions les plus pauvres du Pérou.Les activités prévues par le projet comprennent : 1) des formations ateliers et coaching, pour adolescents et jeunes en collaboration avec les écoles, les leaders communautaires et les familles ; 2) la création et distribution d'information sur les SSDR des adolescents dans le cadre d'une stratégie de communication globale ; 3) la formation des travailleurs de la santé et la création d'installations spécialisées de santé pour améliorer les services liés aux droits sexuels et reproductifs (DSR) pour adolescents ; 4) la formation pour les enseignants, tuteurs et le personnel local du Ministère de l'Education sur l'éducation sexuelle des adolescents, y compris la prévention de la violence ; et 5) la formation de jeunes leaders pour accroître leurs capacités afin de participer dans des espaces municipaux, régionaux et nationaux de prise de décision.Les activités du projet visent à atteindre 78 000 bénéficiaires directs, un grand nombre faisant partie de communautés autochtones.

Violence against children in a...ll its forms (physical, emotional, and sexual) is a profound violation of human rights and has devastating short- and long-term mental and physical effects (UN Secretary-General's Study on Violence against Children).This violence is a concern in sub-Saharan Africa. And while there have been many initiatives to address it, studies evaluating the situation remain limited. There is a clear need for evidence to support advocacy, inform national planning and budgeting, and monitor impact. Violence against children is preventable. Developing and implementing effective prevention strategies, however, requires timely and more complete data to offer insights into the range of risk and protective factors that influence this violence. This research seeks to provide, for the first time, comparable, national population-based estimates to describe the magnitude and nature of the problem for the children of Rwanda. It will include an in-depth qualitative study assessing children living with disabilities to gain a richer understanding of specific issues facing this vulnerable group. The research team will work with children and young people between 13 and 24 years of age to: -describe the problem's magnitude; -identify potential risk and protective factors for violence against children; -assess how much people know about and use health, legal, welfare, and other services for victims of violence; and, -make recommendations to improve and enhance interventions. The goal of these efforts will be to better identify and prevent violence against children, and to ensure access to services. The recommendations will target sectors beyond the health sector and inform national policies, laws, and programs to prevent violence against children. Rwanda's Ministry of Health will collaborate with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, the National Commission for Children, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and UNICEF to deliver the project. This project is aligned with C...anada`s Feminist International Assistance Policy, more specifically, promoting women's economic empowerment and eliminating sexual and gender based violence. The project is focused on addressing the constraints which limit the ability of East African women to participate in economic activities and cross-border trade. The project will address: (i) increased access to markets and trade-related services for women traders; (ii) improved policy, legal, institutional and regulatory environment for strengthening the implementation of existing regional gender frameworks; and (iii) reduction in the incidences of violence against women, through increased awareness of rights and obligations, increased participation of women in decision-making, sensitisation of border officials on gender, adoption of gender sensitive cross border trade charters, establishment of safe working spaces for women and developing and operationalizing a reporting mechanism on Violence Against Women (VAW)./Ce projet est en ligne avec la politique d'aide internationale féministe du Canada, plus particulièrement à la promotion de l'autonomisation économique des femmes et à l'élimination de la violence sexuelle et sexiste. Le projet se vise à lever les contraintes qui limitent la capacité des femmes de l'Afrique de l'Est à participer aux activités économiques et au commerce transfrontalier. Le projet va s'assurer : (i) d'un accès accru aux marchés et aux services liés au commerce pour les commerçantes; (ii) d'une amélioration de l'environnement politique, juridique, institutionnel et réglementaire pour le renforcement de la mise en œuvre des cadres régionaux de genre existants; et iii) de la réduction des cas de violence à l'égard des femmes, de la sensibilisation accrue aux droits et obligations, de la participation accrue des femmes à la prise de décisions, de sensibilisation des fonctionnaires des frontières aux questions de genre, de l'adoption de chartes commerciales transfrontalières tenant compte des sexospécificités, des espaces pour les femmes, de développer et d'opérationnaliser un mécanisme de signalement sur la violence contre les femmes.

Le projet Autonomisation et pa...rticipation citoyenne des enfants, des jeunes et des femmes au Sénégal vise à réduire les violences faites aux femmes et aux filles et à promouvoir l'accès à l'éducation à travers l'autonomisation et la participation significative des enfants, des jeunes et des femmes dans quatre communautés cibles du Sénégal (Pikine, Thiès, Notto Diobass et Ziguinchor). Le projet mobilisera une population d'au moins 22,500 personnes, notamment celles vivant en situation de vulnérabilité, dans des actions qui contribueront à créer des communautés plus inclusives, équitables et sécuritaires. Pour ce faire, le projet vise à assurer un meilleur accès à l'état civil et à réduire les violences basées sur le genre, telles que les violences sexuelles, les mariages forcés et les grossesses précoces, ce qui favorisera l'accès et le maintien des jeunes et des enfants, en particulier des filles, à l'école. Le projet s'appuie sur des outils d'éducation perfectionnés au fil des années, dont le guide Andandoo! pour la participation citoyenne des femmes, des filles et des jeunes au Sénégal. Cette troisième phase du projet, qui constitue sa phase finale, vise à la fois à renforcer significativement les résultats obtenus à ce jour, et à assurer leur pérennité en assurant son transfert aux partenaires sénégalais et son institutionnalisation. Ainsi, cette phase permettra de renforcer les capacités de 76 représentant-e-s de groupes de femmes, de jeunes et d'ONG locales, afin qu'ils soient mieux outillés à promouvoir l'engagement et la participation de 264 leaders communautaires et acteurs clés, ainsi que des populations marginalisées. L'introduction de l'outil On ne joue pas avec les droits développé par Equitas, permettra d'engager 340 jeunes et les enfants, en tant qu'acteurs-trices de changement dans leurs communautés. Un réseau de 20 coaches locaux sera mis en place, et leurs capacités renforcées, afin d'appuyer un engagement communautaire pérenne. Dans cette phase, le projet visera de plus à l'institutionnalisation des résultats, à travers une collaboration renforcée avec de 50 décideurs locaux et nationaux dans le cadre d'actions communautaires, de forums jeunesse et d'un dialogue sur les politiques. Ces collaborations permettront de développer et mettre en œuvre des stratégies concrètes pour influencer les programmes et politiques publiques. L'approche fondée sur les droits humains, incluant le genre, et l'utilisation d'outils de formation éprouvés permettront aux enfants, aux jeunes et aux femmes de s'autonomiser et de se mobiliser en faveur d'un meilleur respect de leurs droits à l'éducation, à l'égalité, à la non-discrimination et à la sécurité.

The project seeks to improve t...he safety of girls, boys and youths at school and enable them to develop in an inclusive, violence-free school environment that is conducive to learning. The goal is to build the capacity of teachers' unions in their efforts to stop school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV). This involves testing, replicating and generalizing innovative approaches that create ongoing teacher engagement to combat SRGBV. Activities include the following: (1) conducting learning workshops, participative knowledge-sharing sessions, and coaching and mentoring activities; and (2) organizing conferences, symposiums and media activities.The beneficiaries of this project are union members in countries of focus, as well as girls, boys and youths in the school environment./ Le projet vise l'amélioration de la sécurité des filles, des garçons et des jeunes à l'école et leur permettre d'évoluer dans un environnement scolaire inclusif, exempt de violence et propice à l'apprentissage. L'objectif consiste à renforcer les capacités des syndicats d'enseignants dans leurs efforts d'éradication de la violence fondée sur le genre en milieu scolaire (VGMS). L'intervention englobe l'expérimentation, la reproduction et la généralisation d'approches novatrices permettant un engagement soutenu des enseignants pour combattre la VGMS. Les activités comprennent : 1) réaliser des ateliers d'apprentissage, des séances participatives de partage des connaissances et des activités d'accompagnement et de mentorat; 2) organiser des conférences, des symposiums et des activités médiatiques.Les bénéficiaires de ce projet sont les membres des syndicats des pays ciblés ainsi que les filles, les garçons et les jeunes du milieu scolaire.

The South Sudan Conflict Sensi...tivity Resource Facility (CSRF) is a multi-donor initiative that aims to contribute to better development and humanitarian outcomes for the people of South Sudan by improving the conflict-sensitivity of programming. This includes improving the capacity of donors and implementing agencies to identify conflict drivers, mitigate the unique risks they pose to programming in fragile states, and ensure that programming supports peace rather than exacerbates existing tensions and divisions. With Canada's support, the CSRF is helping to build this capacity through the provision of technical analysis, research, and practical advice on the application of conflict-sensitive principles and best practices.Project activities include: (1) developing shared guidelines and standards on conflict sensitivity; (2) conducting research and analysis to support decision-making; (3) conducting conflict sensitivity assessments of implementing partners and providing capacity building support; and (4) sharing lessons learned and best practices among a wider global policy audience engaging in fragile states./Le Centre de ressources pour la sensibilité au conflit (CRSC) au Soudan du Sud est une initiative financée par plusieurs donateurs, qui vise à contribuer au développement du Soudan du Sud et aux résultats de l'aide humanitaire apportée aux populations qui y vivent, en améliorant la sensibilité au conflit des programmes d'aide. L'initiative vise notamment à améliorer la capacité des donateurs et des organismes d'exécution à identifier les facteurs de conflit, à atténuer les risques particuliers que ceux-ci présentent pour les programmes dans les États fragiles et à veiller à ce qu'au lieu d'exacerber les tensions et les divisions existantes, les programmes concourent à la paix. Avec le soutien du Canada, le CRSC au Soudan du Sud contribue à renforcer cette capacité en fournissant des analyses techniques et des résultats de recherche, en donnant des conseils pratiques sur l'application des principes de sensibilité au conflit et proposant des pratiques exemplaires.Parmi les activités du projet: 1) élaborer des lignes directrices et des normes communes sur la sensibilité aux conflits; 2) effectuer des recherches et des analyses pour appuyer la prise de décisions; 3) évaluer la sensibilité aux conflits des partenaires d'exécution et fournir un appui au renforcement de leurs capacités; 4) élargir la discussion sur les leçons apprises et les meilleures pratiques à davantage de spécialistes mondiaux des politiques qui interviennent dans les États fragiles.

This project is aligned with C...anada`s Feminist International Assistance Policy, more specifically, promoting women's economic empowerment and eliminating sexual and gender based violence. The project is focused on addressing the constraints which limit the ability of East African women to participate in economic activities and cross-border trade. The project will address: (i) increased access to markets and trade-related services for women traders; (ii) improved policy, legal, institutional and regulatory environment for strengthening the implementation of existing regional gender frameworks; and (iii) reduction in the incidences of violence against women, through increased awareness of rights and obligations, increased participation of women in decision-making, sensitisation of border officials on gender, adoption of gender sensitive cross border trade charters, establishment of safe working spaces for women and developing and operationalizing a reporting mechanism on Violence Against Women (VAW)./Ce projet est en ligne avec la politique d'aide internationale féministe du Canada, plus particulièrement à la promotion de l'autonomisation économique des femmes et à l'élimination de la violence sexuelle et sexiste. Le projet se vise à lever les contraintes qui limitent la capacité des femmes de l'Afrique de l'Est à participer aux activités économiques et au commerce transfrontalier. Le projet va s'assurer : (i) d'un accès accru aux marchés et aux services liés au commerce pour les commerçantes; (ii) d'une amélioration de l'environnement politique, juridique, institutionnel et réglementaire pour le renforcement de la mise en œuvre des cadres régionaux de genre existants; et iii) de la réduction des cas de violence à l'égard des femmes, de la sensibilisation accrue aux droits et obligations, de la participation accrue des femmes à la prise de décisions, de sensibilisation des fonctionnaires des frontières aux questions de genre, de l'adoption de chartes commerciales transfrontalières tenant compte des sexospécificités, des espaces pour les femmes, de développer et d'opérationnaliser un mécanisme de signalement sur la violence contre les femmes.

The project aims to advance ge...nder equality and the empowerment of women and girls by supporting local organizations that advance women's rights in Sri Lanka. It is building the capacity of local women's rights organizations to provide services to their constituents; help women to know and claim their rights; advocate for gender equality; and empower women and girls. The project reflects growing international evidence of the critical role that local women's rights and feminist organizations play in advancing gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.Project activities include the provision of: (1) multi-year funding to selected local women's rights organizations; (2) targeted capacity building to organizations selected for multi-year funding; (3) support to strengthen networks and alliances between women's rights organizations; and (4) small, short-term funding to local women's rights organizations and networks to pilot innovative ideas and approaches, and to respond quickly to unforeseen events and opportunities.This project is part of Canada's commitment to support local women's rights organizations in developing countries./Le projet vise l'avancement de l'égalité entre les sexes et de l'autonomisation des femmes et des filles en appuyant les organisations locales qui font la promotion des droits des femmes au Sri Lanka. Ce projet développe la capacité des organisations locales de défense des droits des femmes, pour qu'elles desservent mieux leurs clientèles; pour qu'elles aident les femmes à connaître et réclamer leurs droits; pour faire la promotion de l'égalité entre les sexes; et pour assurer l'autonomisation des femmes et des filles.Les activités du projet incluent : 1) l'octroi de financement pluriannuel pour les organisations locales des droits des femmes qui sont sélectionnées; 2) la mise en place d'activités ciblées de renforcement des capacités visant les organisations sélectionnées pour le financement pluriannuel; 3) l'appui en vue de renforcer les réseaux et les alliances entre les organisations des droits des femmes; et 4) l'octroi de financement court-terme de petite envergure aux organisations locales et aux réseaux des droits des femmes, pour qu'ils puissent tester des idées et des approches novatrices et répondre rapidement aux opportunités et aux évènements inattendus.Ce projet fait partie de l'engament du Canada pour appuyer les organisations locales des droits des femmes dans les pays en développement.

This project will investigate ...how a community security mechanism known as Nyumba Kumi (which comprises ten households per cell) used in Kenya and Tanzania might foster safer spaces for youth and women to participate in efforts to counter violent extremism and gender violence. Through a comparative analysis of the operationalization of Nyumba Kumi in these two countries, this study will establish how different contexts influence implementation and explore best practices that could be applied in other parts of Africa. The methodology includes case study approaches to examine the opportunities for strengthening youth engagement in the linkages between informal mechanisms, early warning systems, and prevention of violent extremism. It will examine how a community-led security mechanism can provide a platform for promoting the interface between youth, communities, policymakers and law enforcers, and it will promote the leadership role of youth and women in addressing governance challenges facing their communities. The project aims to transform the attitudes and behaviours of communities, policymakers and law enforcers so that they embrace and promote community security mechanisms as tools and platforms for strengthening youth engagement in the prevention of violent extremism and creation of safer spaces. Ultimately, the project will inform the development of evidence-based policies and will influence practices by security actors and other stakeholders on the importance of active youth engagement and participation of youths in community security, policing, and early warning processes.The University of Dar-Es-Salaam will lead this project in Tanzania, and will collaborate with researchers from Catholic University in East Africa for the Kenya component. Using a participatory approach, researchers will target youths (male and female), government officials, religious leaders, political elites and non-state actors involved in community policing and promotion of security.

The project, implemented by th...e Canadian Bar Association (CBA), aims to increase sustainable economic growth for communities hosting natural resource development, including women and vulnerable groups, in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The project empowers community members and local civil society to advance their rights, and access the benefits of natural resource development through awareness-raising, collaborative community projects and law reform. By training lawyers on advocacy and international best practices related to negotiation, contracts and employment in the natural resource sector, the project helps improve the transparency and accountability of laws and expand the benefits accruing from natural resource development to local communities. The project primarily benefits civil society, lawyers, government representatives and women and men in communities hosting natural resource development in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda./ Le projet, qui est mis en œuvre par l'Association du Barreau canadien (ABC), vise à accroître la croissance économique durable au profit de communautés où l'on développe les ressources naturelles, dont des femmes et des groupes vulnérables, au Kenya, en Tanzanie et en Ouganda. Le projet donne des moyens d'action aux membres de la communauté et à la société civile locale pour promouvoir leurs droits et accéder aux avantages du développement des ressources naturelles par la sensibilisation, des projets communautaires collaboratifs et la réforme du droit. This project works with women ...and other victims of gender-based violence to strengthen their ability to effectively engage in transitional justice measures; seeks to ensure that states and state institutions take a gendered approach in the planning, design and implementation of transitional justice measures; and undertakes outreach to international policy makers and organizations to enhance their understanding of the gendered dimensions of human rights violations. The project is focused on Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and Syria.• National and international stakeholders can apply knowledge from comparative lessons about effective ways to make transitional justice gender-sensitive when developing and/or promoting relevant policies, initiatives and programs./ Dans le cadre de ce projet, le récipiendaire travaillera avec les femmes et autres victimes de la violence au Népal, au Sri Lanka, en Tunisie et en Syrie pour accroître leur capacité à participer activement aux processus de justice transitionnelle. Ce projet vise aussi à ce que les États et les institutions étatiques adoptent une approche tenant compte du sexe dans la planification, conception et mise en œuvre de mesures en matière de justice transitionnelle. Il permet aussi de faire de la sensibilisation à l'échelle internationale, cette dernière visant à améliorer et construire des normes entourant les aspects fondés sur le sexe des violations des droits de la personne et de la justice transitionnelle.
