The USAID Investment Support P...rogram (ISP) serves as the keystone award for USAIDs efforts to provide a full range of financial and investment services to potential investors; private sector actors; host government organizations; USAID field missions throughout the world; and USAID geographic and pillar bureaus. This activity will focus on mobilizing private sector capital towards opportunities that can generate an economic and social impact. This program is global in scope, with potential activities in any country and/or region where USAID operates. It is also open to engaging in any economic sector, in support of current and future Agency priorities. It is anticipated that at least 50% of this programs funding will be dedicated to agriculture activities in support of the Feed the Future Initiative.

Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH) - Nutrition
more
|
MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. And we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

How Title II Food Aid Works
U...SAID’s Food for Peace (FFP) Program works for a world free of hunger and poverty, where people live in dignity, peace, and security. FFP and its partners share one mission: to reduce hunger and malnutrition and assure that people everywhere have enough food at all times for healthy, productive lives. FFP is the work of farmers, businessmen, grain elevator operators, truckers, bargemen, freight forwarders, port operations, nongovernmental and international organizations, and government officials. Together they form an unbroken chain of humanity stretching from fertile fields in the United States to hungry families half a world away.
FFP is an expression of the compassion and goodwill of the people of the United States. FFP programs combat malnutrition, improve the livelihoods of vulnerable groups and mitigate the impact of disasters which are occurring with greater frequency.
1. Appropriations & Budgeting
USAID and State Department submit an annual budget to Congress. Congress reviews the budget request, determines the level of funding, and approves appropriations bills.
2. Proposal Submission/Appeal Issuance & Review
For development programs, Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) and International organizations(IOs) submit proposals based on FFP guidance. For emergencies, FFP often responds based on a proposal from a PVO or an appeal from an IO or a disaster declaration by the U.S. embassy in country.
USAID issues guidance that PVOs must follow when developing and implementing Title II programs. Since IOs (e.g. WFP) are not subject to U.S. regulations, they receive food aid according to a special agreement established with the U.S. government.
The Title II program is complemented by the Emergency Food Security program: it is designed to complement Title II and is used when Title II is either not appropriate or cannot arrive quickly enough for an effective emergency response.
3. Call Forward
USAID provides a list of eligible U.S. agricultural commodities, which FFP partners may request. Choosing from this list, and based on their local assessments of markets and needs, partners identify the types and amounts of commodities required and a schedule for delivery.
Once a Title II program is approved, partners order (“call forward”) commodities for delivery.
4. Procurement Invitation and Authorization
USDA procures the requested commodities by issuing tender to commodity suppliers and processors. All Title II commodities are purchased on the open market.
5. Shipment of Commodities
Through a tender process, working closely with USAID the partner arranges for the cargo to be shipped from the U.S. port to the recipient country.
In emergencies, USAID can tap into up to 100,000 tons of food that it has prepositioned in warehouses at the U.S. Gulf post and additional sites overseas to expedite response.
6. Program Implementation
Upon reaching its destination, the food is used in a variety of ways, and always for the people most vulnerable to the effects of hunger: children under age five, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly, and other vulnerable populations.
7. Program Closeout
At the end of the fiscal year, partners submit an “Annual Results Report,” which describes accomplishments for the year.

Graduation with Resilience to ...Achieve Sustainable Development (GRAD) builds on lessons learned from several predecessor USAID projects and activities, including PSNP Plus. An emphasis will be placed on market linkages, access to microfinance, and diversification of household income sources. Additionally, GRAD will also focus on building the resilience of communities through supporting climate change adaptation activities, which will address the high amount of vulnerability in chronically food insecure areas.

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH) - NUTRITION
more
|
|

TRANSLATING RESEARCH INTO ACTI...ON (TRACTION) PROJECT - NUTRITION

|
Translating Research into Acti...on (TRAction) Project - Nutrition
more
|
The purpose of the Translating... Research into Action (TRAction) Project is to accelerate the introduction and scale up of approaches and interventions that when implemented in programs will reduce mortality and severe morbidity in women, newborns and young children. There is a preponderance of evidence on the potential impact of specific maternal, neonatal and child health interventions yet the successful implementation and scale-up of these in countries remains a challenge. TRAction will address this knowledge gap by managing research, introduction and evaluation activities on how to effectively deliver, increase utilization, achieve coverage, and scale-up evidence based newborn, child, maternaland integrated MNCH health and nutrition tools, approaches, interventions and policies that are relevant to field programs.

TheUSAID/GhanaResiliency in No...rthern Ghana (RING)program is an integrated project and partnership effort under USAIDs Feed the Future initiative designed to contribute to the Government of Ghanas efforts to sustainably reduce poverty and improve the nutritional status of vulnerable populations. The purpose of the RING project is to improve the livelihoods and nutritional status of vulnerable households in targeted communities of 17 districts in the Northern Region. This is being achieved through three complementary project components: increasing the consumption of diverse quality foods, especially among women and children; improving behaviors related to nutrition and hygiene of women and young children; and strengthening local support networks to address the ongoing needs of vulnerable households.

AKSE (Aksyon Kolektif pou Seki...rite kont Eksplwatasyon - Health Policy Project) - Nutrition
more
|
The Health Policy Project (HPP...) works to strengthen developing country national and subnational policy, advocacy, governance, and finance for strategic, equitable, and sustainable health programming. HPP helps countries bring about real change in the health of people and communities. We work with in-country partners to sustain commitment to and ownership of policy responses that support improvements in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), HIV, and maternal health.
more
|
Globally, HPP contributes to i...mproved health outcomes through strengthening the efficiency, effectiveness, and equity of health systems in a multi-sectoral context. HPP focuses on the policy aspects of health and other social sectors, often in a multi-sectoral context. We also assist countries to improve health outcomes by addressing barriers due to gender inequalities, socioeconomic status, stigma and discrimination, operational issues, and other factors that prevent people from seeking the health and related social services they need. Throughout our work, we are committed to encouraging in-country capacity for policy, advocacy, governance, and finance. For additional information on HPP see www.healthpolicyproject.com. (https://jobpaw.com/public/detailsjob.php?idjob=5595)
In Haiti, HPP has been asked to implement the USAID-funded for the Aksyon Kolektif pou Sekirite kont Eksplwatasyon (AKSE) Program which supports a multi-sectoral approach to strengthen the Haitian environment for human rights in general and for vulnerable populations, in particular, children, women, and sexual minorities. AKSE was previously implemented by CARE International. HPP will build on the work of the previous project from March 2014 through at least September 2015, with potential for extension.

|
|

The second generation of Alian...zas builds on the original programs goals, utilizing alliances to improve education and health. Since 2005, the partnership has had several key achievements through the formation of 104 individual private sector alliances: providing more than 100,000 scholarships, delivering over 150,000 textbooks, installation of 80 computer labs, training approximately 7,500 teachers, and training more than 5,000 health providers. In addition, more than 350,000 people received reproductive health and family planning informational messages, 26,000 mothers and 22,000 children took part in a maternal/child health program, over 46,000 people gained access to safe water after Tropical Storm Stan, and 7.4 million Guatemalans received vaccines to eradicate measles and rubella.
