The three-year project Standa...rds and Engagement for Ending Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina aims to strengthen the institutional and social response mechanisms on violence against women and domestic violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project aims to improve access and quality of social services to survivors of violence and strengthen social attitudes and behaviors in order to end gender-based violence and domestic violence. The interventions target groups are women, men and adolescents. The project focuses on the strategic objectives identified in BiHs strategy for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention. The intervention also follows the agreed upon conclusions of CSW (2013), which emphasizes an integrated approach by adopting regulations, collecting data, preventing violence and by providing survivors with good quality social services. The initiative builds on several years of experience in filling gaps in the system and increasing capacity. That experience is gathered now in a global project that addresses more aspects of the problem - legal framework, access to social services and prevention through efforts targeted at boys and men as well as changes in attitudes through the media.

The consortium's proposal proj...ect titled Liberty from Violence: A Consortium Approach to Protecting Women & Girls , submitted through Population Services International (PSI) on February 23, 2015, is aimed at strengthening of six organisations (Fundación Sobrevivientes, OSAR, Refugio de la Niñez, PASMO, Asociación Chajulense and Centro de Paz Barbara Ford), in their work regarding gender equality, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender based violence, economic empowerment for women, and prevention of violence. PSI and partners propose to implement complementary interventions as a Consortium, and the agreement partner will be Population Services International. The consortium will be represented and administrated by PSI, and PSI will enter into sub-agrements with each organisation member of the consortium. The project will be implemented by the six organisations mentioned above for the period 2015-2018. The main goal of the project is that: Women and girls in Guatemala are free from all forms of violence in four Departments: Quiché, Totonicapán, Huehuetenango and Guatemala City. The main target group are: women, girls and men. The proposed results are: (i) women and girls who are survivors of violence or are at high risk of violence will be linked to comprehensive care, including shelter, SRHR, forensic, legal, psychological and economic services, (ii) Social norms will be changed that facilitate violence against women; (iii) Gender equality will be improved by increasing access to economic empowerment opportunities for women and girls, among others.

MEDICAL- LEGAL RESPONSE PILOT ...IN GAROWE,PUNTLAND

Medical- Legal Response Pilot ...in Garowe,Puntland
more
|
Gender Based Violence (GBV) is... widespread in Somalia.GBV is distinguished from other forms of violence by its relation to gender inequality and power imbalance. There are limited options available for formal legal redress for GBV survivors, including knowledge and education on legal rights that go with required services, majority of the survivors are still noted to be seeking informal justice from the elders and district authorities, than going in for the formal justice systems.By supporting this pilot, Sweden will contribute in efforts to address endemic Gender Based violence in Somalia. The proposed pilot GBV forensic screening project will, in the longer term, lead to the establishment a comprehensive '360' approach to the reporting, investigation, prosecution and hearing of GBV cases in Somalia. The initial phase of this GBV forensic lab-screening project will be rolled out as a pilot in Garowe, Puntland State of Somalia. A '360' approach describes a system whereby every legal response person that the survivor of an GBV crime encounters; from the first instance of reporting the offence to the time that the case goes to trial, is specifically trained in responding to, investigating or hearing GBV offences. This prevents stigmatisation and re- traumatisation of the survivor and will lead to high quality investigations and prosecutions in criminal GBV cases. The pilot project will therefore focus on the health/medical response/evidence with a focus on broader capacity building for key medical personal on technical knowledge, practice operations of forensic screening, legal education for medical, security and legal professionals. Lessons learnt from this project would be built on to establish a full fledge '360' approach as the possible next phase, which could be more comprehensive and longer term.During the 10 month pilot Sweden will be the only donor. It is expected the other donors will come in also if the pilot will be successful and will be expanded.

Pop Council, SGBV phase III, 2...014-2017 - Population Council Gender Based Violence
more
|
World-wide, 35% of all women h...ave experienced either sexual and/or physical intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. Consequences of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) could be stigmatisation, discrimination, physical and psychical suffering and transmission of infectious diseases, among them HIV. The project proposal submitted by Population Council (hereafter the council) focuses on three key populations of SGBV survivors in East and Southern Africa: women in the general population, female refugees and children. The overall objective of the proposed project is to mitigate the consequences and occurrence of SGBV by strengthening the capacities of the medical, legal and justice sectors to care for survivors of such voilence. Many of the survivors of SGBV are children and there is a lack of knowledge on suitable approaches for targeting children. Refugee women are increasingly vulnerable to SGBV, due to the particular setting that they live in, lacking the safety of a home. Through replicating the already tested SGBV responses to target children and refugees, the council intends to strenghen the evidence-base on occurance of SGBV and methods for reaching survivors of SGBV that are refugees or children. By strengthen the evidence-base, the council expect to influence regional policy and programs on SGBV to better meet the needs of survivors, through dissemination of results to key audiences.

Strengtheing and Deepening wor...k with men and Boys - Sonke Men Engage Network
more
|
In most parts of the Africa to...day, gender inequality continues to negatively impact lives of millions of people, undermining the rights of women, girls and boys, impeding development and democracy building and compromising the livelihoods and freedoms of millions. And even though there have been significant advances made by the global community through important development processes to address gender and gender inequality, including through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), significant progress remains to be made in particular areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS and Gender –Based Violence (GBV), amongst many others. Gender Based Violence still persists in Africa and GBV and gender inequality still remain widespread. Moreover, the situation of LGBTI rights violations is worsening in the region. At policy level, Africa continues to be marred by slow and uneven implementation of regional protocols and commitments, resulting in even slower adoption and implementation of progressive recommendations at country level that promote the well-being and good health of both men and women. There has been growing recognition of the reality that more men continue to hold leadership positions both at community and policy level and thus the need for their increased engagement on these issues. In recent years, there is greater affirmation by various players in development and health of the need to involve boys and men in achieving gender equality, reducing HIV and AIDS and promoting the rights for all. Indeed, a growing and sophisticated body of evidence highlights that well implemented programmes that target men and boys can influence their attitudes and behaviours and their role as agents of change in achieving gender equality. Through the proposed intervention Sonke Gender Justice and the Men Engage Network aim to contribute to the prevention of high levels of GBV and HIV infections occurring in the region. Furthermore, the intervention seeks to address factors that hinder the fulfillment of the human and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Through the project, Sonke and the Men engage network will advance the positive and proactive engagement of men and boys in efforts to challenge and transform rigid gender norms. The project will also leverage its influence with relevant actors such as the United Nations (UN) agencies and regional economic bodies to put GBV and HIV prevention and other human rights issues of their agenda while strengthening partnerships to collectively address the above issues.

The development intervention c...onsists of a five-year project focusing on strengthening the capacity of Bangladeshi civil society, mainly smaller organizations and networks of smaller organizations, active in the field of gender equality (with a focus on prevention of violence against women), human rights and environment and climate-related issues (with focus on strengthening resilience at the local level). The project will be implemented by Manusher Jonno Foundation in cooperation with Bangladeshi partner organizations from civil society. Activities include a variety of components aimed at capacity development of partners in civil society, networking, advocacy and financial support to the implementation of projects relevant to the results. The thematic focus of the intervention is on Sida's priority issues in good governance, human rights, gender equality and environment and climate. It is Sida's assessment that Manusher Jonno Foundation has a unique position among Bangladeshi actors in civil society, through its long-standing experience in similar types of support, both in terms of capacity development and forwarding of funds to small civil society organizations in the country. MJF has shown good results in previous projects with the support of international donors, and has the capacity to do so in this intervention as well.

The objective of the program ... Guatemalan civil society acting towards an inclusive and democratic society is to contribute to the fulfilment of human rights and the progress of democratic reforms in Guatemala by supporting coordinated actions by an inclusive and democratic civil society. In order to achieve this objective, Diakonia plans to fund nine local organisations that work on human rights, gender, and political participation in five departments/regions of the country ( Alta Vera Paz, El Quiché, Huehuetenango, Guatemala and Chimaltenango. In addition, four organisations are being phased out over one year. The partners are social movements, grassroots organisations and some specialized NGOs based in Guatemala City. The target groups are right holders, the majority are indigenous women, men and youth; human rights defenders; persons who survived the internal armed conflict and/or gender based violence; and other vulnerable and marginalised groups. The total amount of the budget is 57 345 000 M SEK; of which 47 700 000 M SEK is charged to the Embassy and 9 645 000 SEK will be covered by CIVSAM.

UN WOMEN STRATEGY 2014-2018
|
UN Women Strategy 2014-2018
|
This appraisal concerns the po...ssibility for a new Swedish support or the UNW strategy for enhancing gender equality and women's empowerment in Kenya. The strategy takes its departure from the UN Development Assistance Framework(UNDAF) and Kenya's Vision 2030 as well as the Medium term Plan(MTP II). The total cost of the strategy (2014-2018) is programme is USD 42 Million approximately SEK 318,8 Million. The assessment argues for a proposed contribution from Sweden will over a three year period (2015-2017) contribute 45MSEK (25%). Support will be for core and programmatic support. The programme strategies will include grant making, capacity development, policy development and technical assistance. UNW will also continue to paly the role of coordination and coherence of the UN system faily as egards support to national priorities of gender equality and women's empowerment (GEWE). As the nature of gender inequalities in Kenya, calls for a multi-dimensional and multistakeholder response; UNW will seek various partnerships and work within the Delivering as One (DaO) modality. UNW will cooperate with women's organizations, community based organizations, NGO's, faith-based organizations and other civil society groups at the national and county level. The proposed programme will focus on five key result areas 1) Women's leadership and participation in governance2) Economically empowered women benefitting from public procurement and agriculture value chains3) Women and girls progressively living a life free from violence4) Peace, security and humanitarian action are shaped by women's leadership and participation5) National and devolved planning fully reflects accountability for gender equality commitments and priorities.UNW bears the primary responsibility of planning, reporting and monitoring as well as auditing of the organisations.
