POP COUNCIL, SGBV PHASE III, 2...014-2017 - POPULATION COUNCIL GENDER BASED VIOLENCE
more
|
Pop Council, SGBV phase III, 2...014-2017 - Population Council Gender Based Violence
more
|
World-wide, 35% of all women h...ave experienced either sexual and/or physical intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. Consequences of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) could be stigmatisation, discrimination, physical and psychical suffering and transmission of infectious diseases, among them HIV. The project proposal submitted by Population Council (hereafter the council) focuses on three key populations of SGBV survivors in East and Southern Africa: women in the general population, female refugees and children. The overall objective of the proposed project is to mitigate the consequences and occurrence of SGBV by strengthening the capacities of the medical, legal and justice sectors to care for survivors of such voilence. Many of the survivors of SGBV are children and there is a lack of knowledge on suitable approaches for targeting children. Refugee women are increasingly vulnerable to SGBV, due to the particular setting that they live in, lacking the safety of a home. Through replicating the already tested SGBV responses to target children and refugees, the council intends to strenghen the evidence-base on occurance of SGBV and methods for reaching survivors of SGBV that are refugees or children. By strengthen the evidence-base, the council expect to influence regional policy and programs on SGBV to better meet the needs of survivors, through dissemination of results to key audiences.

Strengtheing and Deepening wor...k with men and Boys - Sonke Men Engage Network
more
|
In most parts of the Africa to...day, gender inequality continues to negatively impact lives of millions of people, undermining the rights of women, girls and boys, impeding development and democracy building and compromising the livelihoods and freedoms of millions. And even though there have been significant advances made by the global community through important development processes to address gender and gender inequality, including through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), significant progress remains to be made in particular areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, HIV and AIDS and Gender –Based Violence (GBV), amongst many others. Gender Based Violence still persists in Africa and GBV and gender inequality still remain widespread. Moreover, the situation of LGBTI rights violations is worsening in the region. At policy level, Africa continues to be marred by slow and uneven implementation of regional protocols and commitments, resulting in even slower adoption and implementation of progressive recommendations at country level that promote the well-being and good health of both men and women. There has been growing recognition of the reality that more men continue to hold leadership positions both at community and policy level and thus the need for their increased engagement on these issues. In recent years, there is greater affirmation by various players in development and health of the need to involve boys and men in achieving gender equality, reducing HIV and AIDS and promoting the rights for all. Indeed, a growing and sophisticated body of evidence highlights that well implemented programmes that target men and boys can influence their attitudes and behaviours and their role as agents of change in achieving gender equality. Through the proposed intervention Sonke Gender Justice and the Men Engage Network aim to contribute to the prevention of high levels of GBV and HIV infections occurring in the region. Furthermore, the intervention seeks to address factors that hinder the fulfillment of the human and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Through the project, Sonke and the Men engage network will advance the positive and proactive engagement of men and boys in efforts to challenge and transform rigid gender norms. The project will also leverage its influence with relevant actors such as the United Nations (UN) agencies and regional economic bodies to put GBV and HIV prevention and other human rights issues of their agenda while strengthening partnerships to collectively address the above issues.

UN Women South Sudan 2015-2016
|
The proposed support to the St...rategic Note of UN Women South Sudan 2014-2016 is a continuation of the Sida contribution to the previous UN Women Strategic Note Capacity Building for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in South Sudan 2012-2013 (extended to 30 June 2015). The UN Women Strategic Note (2014-2016) focuses on four key areas; 1) Women's Leadership and Participation, 2) Women's Economic Empowerment, 2) Violence against Women and Girls and 4) Women's engagement in Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action. The expected results of the programme are: 1) Women lead and participate in decision making at all levels, 2) Women, especially the poorest and most excluded, are economically empowered and benefit from development, 3) Women and girls live a life free from violence and 4) Peace and security and humanitarian actions in South Sudan are shaped by women's leadership and participation. The intervention's total budget is approxamatly 80 MSEK, of which Sida's contribution is 44%.

UNDAP II - UNDAP II - Violence... against women&children

|
The United Nations Development... Assistance Plan (UNDAP) in Tanzania is designed to strengthen the co-ordination and effectiveness of the UN system at national level, as a contribution to Tanzania's efforts to achieve sustainable poverty reduction and the implementation of human rights. The broad business corresponds to several of the goals set out in the Swedish Development Cooperation Development Strategy Tanzania 2013-2019. Four out of twelve results areas are particularly relevant to the Swedish strategy: good governance / human rights / gender; violence against women and children; female participation and political leadership; as well as economic growth and employment. The Swedish strategy identifies women, children and adolescents as prioritized target groups, which also reflects well in the areas of support chosen by Sida.UNDAP II is fully in line with the donors' Joint Assistance Strategy for Tanzania (JAST) and with Tanzania's National Visions (The Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and Zanzibar Vision 2020). UNDAP II is also developed in line with Tanzania's five-year plan 2015/16 - 2020/21 and with global sustainability and development goals. The program contributes to the UN's focus on improved results and coherence by bringing together 20 UN agencies' planning, budgeting and reporting in a joint performance framework for Tanzania. UNDAP II therefore, to a certain extent, also reduces duplication for national partners as well as UN organizations.Swedish support will be provided through One UN Fund, in line with Sweden's policy to support a coherent and more effective UN work in the countries (UN reform 'Delivering as One', DaO). UNDP is the UN-designated UN body that manages the One UN Fund (through the UNDP office in Dar es Salaam and the headquarters in New York), and the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) UN High Representative in Tanzania, why both of them stand as UN signing of SAA with Sida. In line with Sweden's earnings strategy for Tanzania, the support will not go to UNDAP generally, but as earmarked for the four mentioned results areas. The funds will be distributed as follows to the following results areas:- Economic growth and employment: SEK 125,000,000- Good governance and human rights: 82 500 000 SEK- Women's political participation: SEK 50,000,000- Violence against women and children: 42 500 000 SEK

The overall objective is to wo...rk for a democratic society that is free from discrimination, violence and structural hierarchy; developing freely consisting of independent individuals based on sharing and solidarity. To achieve this objective Kamer will conduct awareness raising activities on gender relating issues and sexist-based discrimination and violence, struggling against cultural and traditional practises harmful for women and children. They will advocate and lobby for development and implementation of right policies needed for elimination of sexist-based discrimination and violence to empower women on individual, social and economical level. They will in various ways highlight the positive impact and importance of alternative approach to early child education as a long-term investment for gender equality. They will also participate and contribute to the democratization process in Turkey based on Kamer's principles against violence, hierarchy and discrimination. Kamer will also work with refugee women and children in a more structured way in this new term. Kamer will proceed their work within four areas:- Strengthening the team that works towards replacing traditional values and methods with alternative ones and thereby strengthen gender equality.- Strengthening women's human rights: a) by creating awareness on gender roles in the society and on violence and discrimination that results from those roles, b) by providing emergency support lines for women exposed to violence and honour related killings.- Creating awareness on the importance of child education and the negative impacts for children exposed to violence.- Women entrepreneurship will be strengthened by providing support to women entrepreneurs that have no awareness on gender roles in order to empower them both as individuals and economically.

IOM, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF and ...UN Women have applied to Sida via the Swedish Embassy in Ankara for funding of 44 570 000 SEK (the exact figure is 44 565 161 SEK which has been rounded up to the even total figure of 44 570 000 SEK) to carry out the UN Inter-Agency Programme for the Prevention of Child, Early and Forced Marriage in Turkey during the period 2018-2020. The intervention aims at preventing as well as supporting survivors of child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) amongst refugee and host communities in 12 selected provinces in Turkey by: i) Strengthening local institutions capacities to identify the drivers and impact of CEFM and establish identification, prevention, response and monitoring mechanisms; and ii) Promoting favorable social norms and attitudes towards ending CEFM among duty bearers and right holders, including policy makers, service providers, girls, boys, women and men. UNICEF will be the administrative agent and convening agency. The intervention includes both humanitarian and development efforts as these are seen as complementary. Moreover, the intervention has the potential to support Turkey in its EU pre-accession process. The intervention's total budget is around 60 200 000 SEK, funds from Sida will not be used to fund any humanitarian activities and UNHCR's share of the budget is therefore not funded by Sida within this intervention.

Kvinna till Kvinna framework 2...015-2017 + extension 2018
more
|
Insamlingsstiftelsen Kvinna ti...ll Kvinna (KtK) has submitted an application for a one-year extension of its ongoing framework agreement 2015-2017. The extension application for 2018 is based on the application for 2015-2017 and focuses on changes and news. Most of the policies that formed the basis for the operations during the current agreement period are also valid in 2018. KtK has a new strategy for the period 2016-2021, but this is entirely in line with the program under the CSO-strategy.The expected impact of the programme is increased fulfilment of women's rights within the Women, Peace and Security agenda in conflict affected regions. The expected results are more or less the same as in the on-going agreement. The programme is divided into four main thematic areas:1. Women in Peacebuilding (WiP)2. Gender Based Violence (GBV)3. Advocacy4. Sustainable women's rights organisationsThe programme is also divided into four components:1. The Global component 2. MENA (Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Israel)3. South Caucasus (Armenia and Azerbaijan)4. Western Balkans (Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia)The inclusion of Israel and Macedonia is new in the 2018 application. The total number of partner organisations is 44, of which nine are new to the programme. However, KtK has on-going cooperation with eight of these. Thus, only one organisation is new as partner to KtK. The total amount applied for 2018 is 36 510 215 SEK. This is an increase by 6 569 103 SEK (equal to 22 percent) compared to the agreed amount 2017. In accordance with the guidelines for the CSO-appropriation the amount is divided into two categories.Grants to operational costs:33 805 755 SEKGrants to administrative costs: 2 704 460 SEK The total budget for the programme 2018 is 40 266 410 SEK and this amount includes KtK's own contribution of 3 756 195 SEK amounting to 10 percent of the total operational costs. The grant to the administrative costs equals 8 percent of Sida's contribution to the operational costs. This is in accordance with the guidelines for the CSO-appropriation. The increased budget compared to 2017 consists mainly of the following changes: 1. the inclusion of Israel and Macedonia into the programme 2. special activities related to security and anti-corruption in the Western Balkans component and improvements in digital security 3. increased costs for regional managers The budget is allocated between the different components as follows:The Global component 9 781 000 SEK (26 percent)MENA 11 950 000 SEK (32 percent)South Caucasus 7 835 000 SEK (21 percent)Western Balkans 7 995 950 SEK (21 percent)Of the total budget, 46 percent is sub-granted in accordance with agreements with local partner organisations. The proportion of the budget that is not paid to partner organisations but goes to activities that directly supports partners, such as different capacity building and networking activities, amounts to 18 percent. Operational costs that are not directly support

|
UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme o...n Eliminating Female Genital Mutilation - Joint Program FGM
more
|
The Joint Programme on Elimina...ting FGM is implemented jointly by UNFPA och UNICEF in 16 countires in Africa. The vision of the Joint Programme in Phase III is to contribute to the elimination of FGM by 2030, in line with Target 5.3 of the SDGs, which calls for the elimination of harmful practices. The goal of the Joint Programme is to accelerate efforts towards the reduction of FGM, fulfilling the rights of girls and women by realizing social and gender norms transformation by 2021. The Joint Programme's direct impact population is girls and women at risk of or affected by FGM, especially in hard-to-reach areas in 16 countries: Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Mali, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia (interventions focused on Somaliland), Sudan and Uganda. The expected outcomes of the intervention are: 1: Countries have an enabling environment for the elimination of FGM practices at all levels andin line with human rights standards.2: Girls and women are empowered to exercise and express their rights by transformingsocial and gender norms in communities to eliminate FGM.3: Girls and women access appropriate, quality and systemic services for FGM prevention, protectionand care.4: Countries have better capacity to generate and use evidence and data for policymaking and improving programming. The Joint Programme in Phase III will target approximately 8 million girls who will receive FGM preventive services and 4 million who will receive protection and care services. In addition, more than 8,200 new communities, covering more than 18 million people, will make public declarations abandoning FGM across 16 countries, helping to ensure that girls will remain free from FGM. The program's total budget for four years is USD 77 million. The largest donors are the EU, Italy, Norway and the United States (through UNICEF). Sweden has previously supported the program through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with SEK 40 million (2014). 64% of the budget refers to actions at country level, 2% regional level and 7.5% at global level. Other expenses relate to UNFPA and UNICEF's costs for management, follow-up and evaluation. A wide range of partners participate in the program, such as national authorities, civil society organizations, research institutions and at the regional level for example the African Union and the League of Arab States.

Kvinna till Kvinna framework 2...015-2017 + extension 2018 - Kvinna till Kvinna förlängning 2018
|
The proportion of the budget that is not paid to partner organisations but goes to activities that directly supports partners, such as different capacity building and networking activities, a

|
Protection of Women's Rights i...n BGD (BNWLA) - BNWLA 2012-2016
more
|
The development problem that t...he intervention aims to address is that protection of women's rights comes from the gender-based power structure in the family, society, and the state. Discrimination against women is very common in Bangladesh and affects the quality of their life. Among the many challenges with regard to women's rights in the country are issues of child marriage, the system of dowry, sexual harassment, and domestic violence. A culture of impunity exists in Bangladesh that denies justice to victims of human rights abuse in most cases. Thus, BNWLA has designed the new phase as a continuation of the previous one that was focused on providing legal aid support to female victims of human rights violation. The overall objective of the new phase is 'Women and girls in Bangladesh are less vulnerable to all forms of violence and better protected from the threat of such violence'. The expected outcomes of the intervention are 1) Government and service providers are accountable to women and girls for prevention, protection and response, 2) Women and girl survivors safely access adequate and appropriate support services (shelter, medical, psychosocial, security, income generation), and 3) Women and girls safely access justice at all levels including within customary and religious lawsThe Embassy has experience of good cooperated with BNWLA from four previous phases of support, the first three of which were done jointly with other like-minded development partners.

The Swedish Embassy has togeth...er with Denmark and the UNDP been financing the human rights plan of the Ministry of Justice in Burkina Faso, in accordance with the UN recommendations subsequent to the UPR 2013, during 2013-2015. This action plan is to be fully implemented during 2017 when Burkina Faso is to report to the UN on its implementation of the UPR recommendations. During 2013-2015 there has been important progress in the implementation of this action plan for human rights in terms of the following important results:- Legislation adopted in 2015 to protect women and girls against gender-based violence;- Legislation against torture adopted in 2015;- Regional human rights information and documentation centra functioning in all Burkina Faso's regions;- Strategy developed for the functioning of the National Human Rights Commission, in accordance with the Paris principles for ensuring the independence and financing of the Commission;- Inter-ministerial commission ensuring the integration of human rights and gender equality in all sectors;- Rights of the child integrated and ensured in the curricula for primary education;- Training on human rights provided for teachers, journalists, judges and militaries;- Regular surveillance of the respect for human rights in Burkina Faso's prisons;- Special judges trained for defending the rights of children and youth. The Swedish funding for 2013-2015 amounts to 8MSEK. However in order to continue the implementation of the human rights action plan in accordance with the UN EPU recommendations additional funding is needed for 2016-2017 in order to increase capacities of the regional human rights centra to document, inform and follow-up on human rights, to ensure the independence and functioning of the National Human Rights Commission, to enhance the respect of human rights of vulnerable groups including in the prisons and for the Ministry to fulfil its role in promoting, coordinating and surveying the respect for human rights. The action plan proposed for Swedish support for 2016 amount to 5MSEK and an additional 5MSEK is requested for 2017. Hence it is suggested that Sweden adds a total of 10 MSEK for 2016-2017 in addition to the support that amounted to 8 MSEK during 2013-2015, hence amounting to a total Swedish contribution of 18 MSEK to the intervention during the period 2013-2017. The activities described in the detailed work plan for 2016, with its corresponding budget lines, include the production and distribution of additional 500 human rights manuals for primary schools, training and follow-up on human rights training with teachers in all of Burkina Faso's regions, information campaigns in schools to spread knowledge about the regional human rights centra and their services in providing citizens with information on their human rights, social and economic reintegration of women that are accused of with-craft (approximately 40 women currently taken care of at the regional shelter centra sorting under th

Trócaire's proposed project w...ill address issues of women's participation in informal and formal decision-making processes including those where conflict dynamics are influenced and discussed and around protection from SGBV and equitable access to land. In order to create an enabling environment for this to take place, Trócaire aims to empower women economically, so that they can have the time and space to engage more meaningfully in the social empowerment work and protection from SGBV that the project will be supporting. Trócaire's empowerment approach aims at strengthening individual and community capacities to engage with duty bearers and to influence plans and policies that directly affect their lives. A conflict sensitive approach will be applied throughout the project so that Trócaire's activities and partners will be enabled to promote peace and contribute to reduced levels of destructive and violent conflict in target zones. The overall goal of the project is to contribute to peaceful and gender equitable communities in Mambasa and Djugu Territories, Ituri Province, DRC. 3 long term outcomes have been identified which the project will aim to reach: 1.Women, particularly young women are socially and economically empowered to participate in both conflict and peace-related formal and informal decision-making processes at all levels,2.Women, girls and boys are free from violence and its associated risks , 3.Civil Society Organisations working on gender equality and women's rights are strengthened and deliver on their objectives.

The proportion of the budget that is not paid to partner organisations but goes to activities that directly supports partners, such as different capacity building and networking activities, a

The overall objective of the i...ntervention is to contribute to increased employment for indigenous women and youth (15-35 years) in 12 municipalities in the Alta Verapaz region through vocational education, improved access to the labour market and increased self-employment. The intervention also includes measures to reduce violence against women and strengthen sexual and reproductive rights (SRHR) in order to facilitate the integration of women and youth into the labour market. Through the project, 10,000 indigenous women and youth are expected to get new job opportunities and thus increase income, while another 60,000 will increase their knowledge of gender-based violence and SRHR.The intervention will be carried out by the Swiss Civil Society Organisation Swisscontact, who has many years of experience in implementing similar projects both in Latin America and in other parts of the world. The project will be implemented with a so-called systemic market initiative, based on the project's strengthening existing market functions at companies and authorities instead of replacing them or creating new ones. The initiative's strategy is based on in-depth studies of the indigenous women and youth labour market in Alta Verapaz, conducted by Swisscontact during a ten months' long inception phase, identifying the main problems that prevent the local labour market from creating sufficient employment opportunities for the target group and identifying measures to solve them together with local actors.Swisscontact is responsible for implementing the Swedish contribution, for example through, education, counseling and coordination of local actors (authorities, companies, CSOs, educational institutions, etc.) improve access and quality of vocational training, strengthen the local business environment and provide the target group with access to business services and financial services. The Swedish contribution will also fund scholarships, co-finance investments in companies that create new jobs for the target group and co-finance the creation of new small businesses. The project will be implemented in 2018-2022 and the financial support from Sida is SEK 55 million.

Study on Masculinity and Gende...r Norms in Liberia - Masculinity Study Liberia

|
During the two civil wars of L...iberia (1989-2003), rape and other forms of sexual abuse were a widespread weapon of war. Liberia has now been peaceful for 15 years, but sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) remains rampant. There is limited analysis available on the root causes of the high prevalence of SGBV cases, rape especially. The Embassy of Sweden has therefore identified the need for a masculinity study which will study the interlinks between gender norms, masculinity, patriarchal norms and SGBV. A key objective with this study is to develop theories of change and development interventions that begin challenging negative notions of masculinity, which can be used by the Embassy and other development partners in Liberia.

The proportion of the budget that is not paid to partner organisations but goes to activities that directly supports partners, such as different capacity building and networking activities, a

The international civil societ...y organisation, Legal Action Worldwide (LAW) has applied to the Embassy for funding of 9 million SEK to carry out the pilot project on building legal Agency for IDPs through increased accountability for human rights violations, with a focus on GBV in Somalia, during the period 2017-2019. The project is focusing on building legal agency for IDPs by increasing accountability and access to justice for violations of human rights with a focus on gender based violence (GBV) committed by the security forces. It will build a skill set amongst IDPs to document and advocate on human rights violations against their community(ies), both at the national and international level. The project will work with Somali actors to create a cadre of human rights enablers within the IDP community itself and those that provide legal representation to them. An independent Civilian Oversight Board (COB) over the Somali National Police Force will be established in areas containing the highest number of IDPs. The project will be commenced in Mogadishu and expanded in the southern and central regions of Somalia over three years. The intervention's total budget is 10 167 500 SEK (1 089 689 USD) , out of which approximately 1 million SEK is supposed to be contributed by another donor (discussions are ongoing with UN WOMEN). Approximately 1 300 000 SEK (142 290 USD) of the intervention budget will be forwarded from LAW to the Somali NGO Witness Somalia for the coordination of the establishment of civilian oversight boards.
