Provide humanitarian assistanc...e to communities in central Myanmar through technical assistance and resources to address critical needs in maternal and child health; livelihoods; food security; and water, sanitation, and hygiene.
more
|
3 components constituted the p...rogramme and 1 out of these 3 is health relevant: Maternal and Child Health (MCH) – Shae Thot’s approach to improving MCH includes community-based actions and mobile clinical services and strengthening health systems. Volunteer health workers called “Change Agents” are trained in safe pregnancy, diagnosing and treating common illnesses of under-5 children including pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria, and facilitating emergency referral. They are linked to Mothers’ Groups, networks of mothers who meet weekly to learn about and discuss MCH-related illnesses, hygiene, and nutrition. The Village Development Funds provide immediate access to financial resources for health emergencies – addressing a common barrier to vital MCH care services. Shae Thot’s health system strengthening approach complements community-based action through supporting continuous medical education sessions for midwives, training of auxiliary midwives, and deploying mobile clinics to targeted villages on a regular basis to offer a range of maternal and child health services.
Livelihoods and Food Security – Household-level food insecurity is widespread in Myanmar as a result of frequent drought, uneven rainfall patterns, and landlessness due to internal displacement. Shae Thot takes a dual approach towards improving livelihoods and food security that includes expanded access to financial services and improved agriculture services. Credit provision services – both institutional and savings-group models – are combined with microenterprise training to promote income generation. The program supports improved agriculture production through technical education and support for sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural practices, knowledge-sharing activities, and providing quality agriculture and livestock inputs.
Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene (WASH) — Shae Thot’s WASH activities are conducted through building community members’ hands-on skills in order to develop local expertise. The project trains local carpenters, masons, and artisans to create low-cost, low-technology solutions for providing or constructing bio-sand filters, ceramic water filters deep-tube wells, hand-dug wells, small dams, sanitation for community schools, or other types of water and sanitation infrastructure. Community grants are a central element of the WASH strategy, enabling communities and groups to develop joint plans for infrastructure projects. “Four Clean” hygiene and Community Lead Total Sanitation (CLTS) trainings for community volunteers and school teachers promote sustainable behavior change across the community. UNICEF supported all provincia...l and regional governments in the roll out of their multi-sectoral nutrition strategies. Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Secretariats are active in all provinces, laying the foundation for multi-sectoral nutrition coordination. UNICEF also supported the development of the National Infant and Young Child Feeding Strategy and costed IYCF Communication Plans at province and regional level. To generate evidence that will guide policy and programme approaches to strengthen complementary feeding, UNICEF is assisting the government to conduct a national assessment on complementary feeding. UNICEF initiated an integrated Nutrition-WASH programme for the reduction of stunting in Sindh province. Finally, UNICEF has established an online Nutrition Management Information System at provincial and regional levels.

Voucher Plus Activity - Matern...al and Child Health
more
|
USAID will collaborate with SI...DA, World Bank, and the GoU to increase access among poor women to skilled care during pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. The project will support: a) 450,000 pregnant women to deliver under skilled attendance; b) 50 percent of enrolled pregnant women to attend at least 4 antenatal care (ANC) visits; c) 100 percent of enrolled women with HIV to receive PMTCT; and d) 30 percent of enrolled mothers to access post-natal care. The project focuses on safe delivery, capacity building and project management. The safe delivery component provides subsidized vouchers to poor pregnant women to access a package of safe delivery services from contracted service providers. The package will also include preventing mother-to-child transmission and malaria prevention services as part of ANC. The component on capacity building and project management will support project management functions and build national capacity to mainstream and scale-up implementation of the voucher scheme in the health sector.

The Improving Contraceptive Me...thod Mix (ICMM) initiative forms part of Australia's commitment to the Global Alliance on Reproductive, Maternal and Neonatal Health to provide assistance to improve health outcomes for poor women, children and infants in Indonesia. ICMM aims to increase the availability and use of quality family planning services in resource-poor areas through a combination of knowledge management and advocacy capacity-building activities, specifically to: increase and document the use of Long Acting and Permanent Methods of contraceptives (LAPM) in six districts of West Nusa Tenggara and East Java; document and analyse district-level knowledge management and advocacy activities and determine what programmatic and behavioural changes resulted from these activities; develop an evidence-based advocacy training and support package for use in other districts; and present an evidence-based advocacy plan to government and civil society leaders for increasing the priority of family planning at the district level. The total value of this initiative is $2.0 million over 4 financial years, starting 2011-12.

United Nations Population Fund... Supplies Contribution 2017
more
|
The United Nations Population ...Fund (UNFPA) Supplies Programme, is the UNFPA's sexual and reproductive health commodities procurement and distribution program. The Programme focuses on 46 countries to tackle high maternal death rates, low rates of contraceptive use and a growing unmet need for family planning. Since 2008, UNFPA Supplies' efforts have increased access to, choice of, and use of modern contraceptives. They have also enhanced the capacity of national health systems to manage these supplies and to provide family planning, maternal health and HIV-prevention services. Funding under this investment represents Australia's contribution valued at $3.5 million to be expensed during the 2016-17 financial year.
