This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH.Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems.The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results./ Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants. This project seeks to improve ...the health of the population in all districts of Bangladesh by strengthening the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's management of the public health care system and by improving public health services. The project forms the cornerstone of Canada's support for achieving development objectives in the health sector in Bangladesh and its main focus is to help implement the Ministry's Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Development Program. The project activities include: (1) improving the financial management of the Ministry's aid budget; (2) procuring obstetric drugs and family planning supplies in low performing districts with high maternal, newborn and child mortality rates; (3) updating the regulatory framework for the accreditation of health personnel; (4) improving the planning, development and management of human resources for health; (5) increasing the availability of maternal health services; and (6) developing and implementing a monitoring and evaluation plan within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As with all pooled funding initiatives, Canada is working in close cooperation with other donors and the Government of Bangladesh to focus on effective, transparent, and accountable country systems; increase donor coordination and harmonization; and strengthen mutual accountability. This project is continuously monitored and evaluated in coordination with other donors, which include the World Bank, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, Germany and the United States. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé de l'ensemble de la population vivant dans les districts du Bangladesh, en renforçant la gestion du système public de soins de santé par le ministère de la Santé et du Bien-être de la famille et en améliorant les services de santé publique. Il représente la pierre angulaire de l'aide fournie par le Canada pour atteindre les objectifs de développement dans le secteur de la santé au Bangladesh et vise essentiellement à aider le Ministère à mettre en oeuvre son programme de développement des secteurs de la santé, de la population et de la nutrition. The initiative aims to address... several development needs and challenges all linked to underlying poverty and lack of basic services in the remote rural areas in the Ramechap district in Nepal, in the Azabache and Nacaome areas in Honduras and in the Gourma province in Burkina Faso. The overall objective of the initiative is to improve the health of mothers and young children, and thus contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality, through assistance with village and household-scale infrastructure, parent health education and enhanced nutrition and food security. World Neighbours Canada aims to develop and implement training programs for women and men to learn about family planning options, to increase food crop production using sustainable and ecologically sound practices, to promote proper nutrition in infants and young children under 2 years of age that includes breast feeding promotion, developing and implementing water system plans with participation of users etc. The project proposes to benefit more than 50,000 women, men, girls and boys. World Neigbours Canada is working with Tamakoshi Sewa Samiti (TSS) in Nepal, L'Association d'Appui à la Promotion du Développement Durable des Communautés (APDC) in Burkina Faso, and Vecinos Honduras, in Honduras to implement this project. This project is part of Canada's commitment to maternal, newborn and child health programming. / L'initiative compte répondre à plusieurs besoins et défis reliés à la pauvreté sous-jacente et le manque de services de base dans les milieux ruraux dans le district de Ramechap au Népal, dans les regions d'Azabache et Nacaome au Honduras et dans la province de Gourma, au Burkina Faso. L'objectif global de l'initiative de développement est d'améliorer la santé des mères et des jeunes enfants, et ainsi contribuer à réduire la mortalité maternelle et infantile, en appuyant la rénovation de l'infrastructure des maisons et du village, l'éducation liée à la santé maternelle et l'amélioration de la nutrition et de la sécurité alimentaire. World Neighbours Canada vise à élaborer et à mettre en oeuvre des programmes de formation, pour les femmes et les hommes, reliés à la planification familiale, à l'accroissement de la production vivrière en utilisant des pratiques durables et écologiques, à la promotion d'une bonne nutrition chez les nourrissons et les jeunes enfants de moins de deux ans (en promouvant l'allaitement), à l'élaboration et la mise en oeuvre d'un système d'eau qui implique la participation de ses utilisateurs, etc. Le projet devrait bénéficier à plus de 50 000 femmes, hommes, filles et garçons. This initiative aims to reduce... maternal and child mortality in 20 villages in Lubutu and Walikale, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Current interventions to support child and maternal health are inadequate with only 17.7% contraceptive prevalence rate, 42% of family planning needs being met, less than 44 % of women receiving proper antenatal care and an average of 63 % of children being fully immunized (measles, DTP, and Hib). Activities include: 1) Training health workers; Sensitizing Communities members living in 20 health areas about reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; 2) Training community volunteers living in 20 health areas in reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; 3) Sensitizing pregnant women living in 20 health areas in safe pregnancy delivery and motherhood; 4) Building and equipment of seven maternity wards with basic material, supplies and equipment; 5) Providing supplies and material to support family planning implementation to 20 health centers; 6) Equipment of 30 mobile units with material and supplies to deliver ante and post-natal care in remote areas; 7) Building six blocks of latrines and showers, seven medical waste incinerators, placenta and waste pits in seven new maternity wards; and, 8) providing clean water to 4 new maternity wards and surrounding community living within 500 meters. This initiative will directly reach 77,209 people. Jane Goodall Institute of Canada is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Jane Goodall Institute of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Programme National de Sante de la Reproduction - Maniema Province, and Programme National de Sante de la Reproduction - North Kivu Province. / Cette initiative vise à réduire le taux de mortalité des mères et des enfants dans 20 villages du Lubutu et Walikale, en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). This initiative aims to reduce... mother and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and Childs mortality. Through this initiative, the delivery of adapted health services to mothers and children (age 0-5) will be improved by increasing the professional skills of male and female health workers. Furthermore, supporting the local financial capacity will improve health services planning and access to quality data. To increase use of these health services, education campaigns will be launched to teach about reducing maternity risks, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as early pregnancy.Activities include: 1) training health care providers; 2) strengthening executives' management skills; 3) building five maternity wards and 15 maternity rehabilitation wards; 4) providing equipment and medicines; 5) launching awareness campaigns for the prevention of mother-child HIV/AIDS transmission; 6) assisting 3,500 seropositive women and newborns; 7) launching an early pregnancy prevention campaign; 8) organising knowledge sharing and networking events for the general Canadian public in order to stimulate their commitment to support MNCH initiatives in developing countries.Direct beneficiaries are: 300,000 pregnant women, 90,000 spouses (men), 43,000 youth (age 15-24) as well as 455,000 newborns and children under five, of which 52% are girls. These beneficiaries will be better informed and/or will use the improved health services. More than 700 health care providers (nurses, doctors, specialists), and 355 health care managers and executives will have stronger professional skills.Oxfam Quebec is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: : Anti-Bwaki Mothers' Association, Ituri Provincial Health Division and Tshopo Provincial Health Division./ Cette initiative vise à réduire la mortalité chez les mères et les enfants dans 15 zones des Divisions provinciales de la santé de la Tshopo et de l'Ituri, en Province Orientale de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). The project focuses on prevent...ing violence against children and youth and improving services for street children and at-risk families in five communes in Kinshasa. It does this by supporting outreach activities and programs that will improve the services offered at protection centres, health centres and in communities, taking into account the particular needs of girls and boys. The project also advocate s for adherence to and improvement of key child protection policies. Various mechanisms will be established to ensure that children and youth have the ability and opportunity to actively participate in and influence the nature of the services available to them and the decisions that affect them. / Le projet vise à prévenir la violence faite aux enfants et à améliorer les services offerts aux familles à risques et aux enfants de la rue dans cinq communes de Kinshasa. Pour ce faire, le projet appui des programmes et des activités communautaires qui amélioreront les services offerts dans les centres de protection et de santé des diverses communes, tout en prenant en compte les besoins particuliers des garçons et des filles. Le projet vise entre autres l'amélioration et le respect de politiques publiques clefs en matière de protection de l'enfant. Plusieurs mécanismes seront également mis en place afin que les enfants soient en mesure de pouvoir participer activement aux décisions qui les touchent de près ou qui portent sur la nature des services offerts à leur endroit.

Family planning is critical to... advancing gender equality and adolescents' empowerment. Among development actors, UNFPA Supplies is the largest provider of contraceptives in the world and is pivotal to the achievement of the Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) goal of enabling 120 million more women and girls to have access to contraceptives by 2020. Canada's support to UNFPA Supplies contributes to increasing the availability and use of contraceptives by adolescents in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali. Project activities include: (1) supporting advocacy with governments for the inclusion of emergency contraception among an integrated package of reproductive health commodities available in-country; (2) improving adolescent and youth access to reproductive health services and information, including family planning and contraceptives, with a focus on humanitarian and fragile settings; and (3) strengthening capacity and systems for supply chain management to ensure availability of high-quality reproductive health supplies for adolescents and youth./ La planification familiale est cruciale pour faire progresser l'égalité des sexes et le renforcement économique des adolescentes. The initiative aims to address... several development needs and challenges all linked to underlying poverty and lack of basic services in the remote rural areas in the Ramechap district in Nepal, in the Azabache and Nacaome areas in Honduras and in the Gourma province in Burkina Faso. The overall objective of the initiative is to improve the health of mothers and young children, and thus contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality, through assistance with village and household-scale infrastructure, parent health education and enhanced nutrition and food security. World Neighbours Canada aims to develop and implement training programs for women and men to learn about family planning options, to increase food crop production using sustainable and ecologically sound practices, to promote proper nutrition in infants and young children under 2 years of age that includes breast feeding promotion, developing and implementing water system plans with participation of users etc. The project proposes to benefit more than 50,000 women, men, girls and boys. World Neigbours Canada is working with Tamakoshi Sewa Samiti (TSS) in Nepal, L'Association d'Appui à la Promotion du Développement Durable des Communautés (APDC) in Burkina Faso, and Vecinos Honduras, in Honduras to implement this project. Family planning is critical to... advancing gender equality and adolescents' empowerment. Among development actors, UNFPA Supplies is the largest provider of contraceptives in the world and is pivotal to the achievement of the Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) goal of enabling 120 million more women and girls to have access to contraceptives by 2020. Canada's support to UNFPA Supplies contributes to increasing the availability and use of contraceptives by adolescents in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali. Project activities include: (1) supporting advocacy with governments for the inclusion of emergency contraception among an integrated package of reproductive health commodities available in-country; (2) improving adolescent and youth access to reproductive health services and information, including family planning and contraceptives, with a focus on humanitarian and fragile settings; and (3) strengthening capacity and systems for supply chain management to ensure availability of high-quality reproductive health supplies for adolescents and youth./ La planification familiale est cruciale pour faire progresser l'égalité des sexes et le renforcement économique des adolescentes. This initiative aims to reduce... illness and death among women of reproductive age, newborns and children under five by working with local health authorities.. Activities include: (1) training women and men health workers and traditional birth attendants to dispense accurate advice on ante and post-natal care, promote healthy habits, provide basic health care, identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to government-run medical facilities; (2) equipping a select number of health centers with essential equipment to reduce infection, monitor vital signs of fetuses and facilitate night time deliveries; (3) constructing dispensaries, nurses' houses and expectant mothers' houses to encourage facility based delivery; (4) providing rapid and affordable transport to medical facilities; (5) improving access to clean water and nutritious food; and (6) mobilizing and equipping communities and village leaders for sustainability of MNCH and gender results. This initiative is expected to contribute directly to the improved health and nutrition of approximately 2 million women, men and children and in addition, around 1 million individuals.The project is implemented with local partners in each country: VHW in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, Inshuti Mu Buzima (Partners in Health) in Rwanda, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi n Tanzania./ Le projet vise à réduire les maladies et la mortalité chez les femmes en âge de procréer, les nouveau-nés et les enfants de moins de cinq ans, en collaboration avec les autorités de santé locales. This project will support the ...health and rights of women by improving the provision of health services to women and adolescent girls (15-19 years) in three underserved areas in Nampula and reducing the risks of Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM), and early pregnancy. Project activities include: (1) conducting radio programmes and mobilization events on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, early pregnancy and CEFM in 60 villages; (2) establishing father, mother-to-mother and adolescent clubs as community support groups; (3) orienting madrinhas†(traditional sexual health counselors) and traditional birth attendants on mentorship for Adolescent Reproductive Health issues; (4) training health care providers on gender-responsive and adolescent-friendly sexual and reproductive health and Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care; and (5) developing a provincial action plan on maternal, newborn and child health topics including CEFM and pregnancy, with 14 semi-annual national and provincial Coalition meetings to end child marriage. The project is expected to reach over 45,000 direct beneficiaries and close to 800,000 indirect beneficiaries, including 120,720 women of child-bearing age in Nampula province. / Ce projet vise à renforcer la santé et les droits des femmes en améliorant les soins de santé prodigués aux femmes et aux adolescentes (15 à 19 ans) au sein de trois localités mal desservies de Nampula et en réduisant les risques de mariages d'enfants, précoces et forcés (MEPF), et de grossesses précoces. Les activités de projet sont les suivantes : (1) mettre sur pied des programmes radio et des événements mobilisateurs portant sur la santé sexuelle et reproductrice, l'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes, les grossesses précoces et les MEPF dans 60 villages; (2) établir des groupes de soutien communautaires pour pères, de mère-à-mère et pour adolescents; (3) présenter le mentorat sur les questions de santé reproductive des adolescents aux « madrinhas » (conseillers traditionnels en matière de santé sexuelle) et aux sages-femmes traditionnelles; (4) former les prestataires de soins de santé sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive sensible au genre et aux besoins des adolescents, et sur les soins de base obstétricaux et néonatals d'urgence; et (5) élaborer un plan d'action provincial portant sur la santé maternelle, néonatale et des enfants, incluant les MEPF et la grossesse, dont 14 réunions semestrielles de la Coalition nationale et provinciale pour mettre fin au mariage des enfants. This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH.Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems.The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results./ Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants. This project builds on previous support to the Health Pooled Fund by extending coverage to new geographic areas, as well as by increasing the focus on nutrition and community-level service delivery. Le projet vise à renforcer les systèmes gouvernementaux, principalement au niveau national et au niveau des comtés, ainsi qu'à améliorer la santé des femmes, des nouveau-nés, des adolescents et des enfants dans le contexte de ces États fragiles. Ce projet s'ajoute à l'aide accordée antérieurement au Fonds commun en santé en offrant l'aide à de nouvelles régions géographiques et en ciblant davantage la nutrition et la prestation de services au niveau des collectivités. Les besoins prioritaires des femmes et des enfants sont déterminés en fonction d'un accent sur la maternité sans risques, la santé de la reproduction et le traitement des maladies infantiles, ainsi que d'une insistance accrue sur l'égalité entre les sexes et l'inclusion sociale. Ce projet s'inscrit dans l'engagement du Canada à l'égard de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, afin d'améliorer la santé et les droits des femmes et des enfants.

This project aims to reduce ma...ternal and infant mortality rates in Yambio County by improving the quality of maternal and infant health services at the Yambio State Hospital. Project activities include: (1) training of medical staff in basic emergency obstetrics, paediatrics, pre- and post-natal care services, sexual and gender based violence, laboratory management, and water and sanitation; (2) providing the hospital with supplies and medicines and training on infection control; and (3) improving Health Management Information Systems capacities. The project is expected to reach about 39,000 people directly, including over 8,000 pregnant women and 30,860 children under the age of five. Amref Health Africa in Canada is working in partnership with Amref Kenya and Amref South Sudan to implement this project with the State Ministry of Health of Western Equatoria State. / Ce projet vise à réduire les taux de mortalité maternelle et infantile dans le comté de Yambio en améliorant la qualité des services de santé maternelle et infantile de l'hôpital public de Yambio. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) offrir au personnel médical une formation sur les soins d'urgence obstétriques, pédiatriques, anténatals et postnatals de base, la violence sexuelle et sexiste, la gestion de laboratoire, l'approvisionnement en eau et l'assainissement; 2) fournir au personnel de l'hôpital du matériel et des médicaments, et lui offrir une formation sur le contrôle des infections; 3) renforcer les capacités des systèmes d'information de gestion de la santé. Le projet devrait permettre d'aider directement environ 39 000 personnes, dont plus de 8 000 femmes enceintes et 30 860 enfants de moins de cinq ans. This initiative aims to reduce... illness and death among women of reproductive age, newborns and children under five by working with local health authorities.. Activities include: (1) training women and men health workers and traditional birth attendants to dispense accurate advice on ante and post-natal care, promote healthy habits, provide basic health care, identify high risk pregnancies and make referrals to government-run medical facilities; (2) equipping a select number of health centers with essential equipment to reduce infection, monitor vital signs of fetuses and facilitate night time deliveries; (3) constructing dispensaries, nurses' houses and expectant mothers' houses to encourage facility based delivery; (4) providing rapid and affordable transport to medical facilities; (5) improving access to clean water and nutritious food; and (6) mobilizing and equipping communities and village leaders for sustainability of MNCH and gender results. The project seeks to implement... evidence-based maternal newborn and child health (MNCH) interventions to reduce mortality and morbidity of pregnant women and newborns in underserved districts of Kigoma region, Tanzania. This goal is achieved by improving the availability of quality MNCH services in underserved districts and increasing the utilization of maternal and newborn health services by women and their families in targeted districts. The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of council and health facility management teams to deliver services by training local health managers on evidence-informed program planning and decision making. Project activities include: (1) training 190 local health managers and Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) on evidence-based planning and budgeting, leadership, supportive supervision, and supply chain management of essential pharmaceuticals and contraceptives; (2) supporting the CHMTs to develop and implement a data quality assurance and maternal and newborn mortality review system at district and health facility levels; (3) training and mentoring 335 frontline health workers to enhance their clinical capacity on emergency obstetric and neonatal care and family planning; (4) strengthening referral networks and supporting quarterly mobile outreach MNCH clinics and supportive supervision visits to hard-to-reach areas; (5) upgrading and equipping 26 health facilities with medical equipment and WASH facilities to provide Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care services; and (6) conducting awareness sessions and community conversations with men and women support groups to discuss family planning issues and address concerns around the use of contraceptives, antenatal care and men's role in supporting pregnant women and newborns. This project addresses the mai...n causes of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity through a two-pronged approach. On the demand-side, it is increasing utilization of sexual and reproductive, health, and rights SRHR services by women, adolescent girls, newborns and their families and on the supply side, it is improving the availability of quality SRHR services. The project is also working to improve utilization of, and access to, SRHR services for women of reproductive age and adolescent girls that are both gender responsive and adolescent friendly, and that support women and adolescent girls to have greater decision making power to seek SRHR services independently through gender transformative strategies. The project works closely with regional and national level governments to ensure sustainable delivery of high quality, gender sensitive health services.Project activities include: (1) training healthcare staff on high-impact maternal and newborn health interventions such as basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC), comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (CEmONC), Helping Babies Breathe program, Kangaroo Mother Care, post-partum care and family planning; (2) equipping select facilities and hospitals with BEmONC and CEmONC equipment, Helping Babies Breathe and Kangaroo Mother Care supplies, reproductive health commodities and gender sensitive/adolescent friendly information, education and communication materials; (3) training community health workers and supporting outreach on gender equality, reproductive health services including family planning, and adolescent friendly maternal and newborn health; (4) conduct Village Health Days to provide maternal and newborn health services, including vitamin A, deworming and immunization for children under five; (5) develop new village savings and loans associations for adolescents and support existing ones for adults and community health workers to improve the financial independence of women and girls and promote the allocation of emergency funds.The project is implemented in collaboration with Jhpiego, Africare and White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood Tanzania./Ce projet s'attaque aux principales causes de mortalité et de morbidités maternelles et néonatales grâce à une approche à deux volets. The Uzazi Uzima II project see...ks to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity in all five districts of Simiyu region, Tanzania by improving the availability of quality adolescent, maternal and newborn health services in underserved districts through three mutually supportive mechanisms. The project will: improve the knowledge and skills of healthcare providers on maternal, newborn and sexual/reproductive health to ensure they can provide critical services to their beneficiaries in a gender sensitive and responsive way; improve the infrastructure and supply-chain for health facilities to encourage women, girls and their families to use services; and improve gender responsive health management systems (such as planning, prioritization and management of services). The project will also increase awareness and understanding of sexual, reproductive, maternal and child health with special focus on men's participation in reproductive, maternal and newborn health and decision making.Project activities include: (1) training health workers from four health centres and 24 dispensaries on: essential maternal and newborn health skills, such as Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC); Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC), family planning; nutrition counselling; and newborn resuscitation; (2) refurbishing four health centres and 24 dispensaries to provide CEmONC, BEmONC, water, sanitation and hygiene and family planning services, including a satellite safe blood center at the regional hospital; (3) equipping targeted health facilities with the necessary stocks of equipment and commodities to provide BEmONC, CEmONC, family planning and safe blood services; (4) establishing a referral system for maternal and newborn health care and family planning services across all tiers of the health system; (5) training and supporting Ministry of Health and facility-based managers, and health workers to improve community to facility linkages (enhanced data collection, consolidation, analysis and reporting); and (6) training and equipping community health workers, traditional birth attendants, traditional healers, and local leaders to provide community-level health promotion services (including maternal and newborn health, water, sanitation and hygiene, family planning, nutrition, gender issues and use of mobile health technology to mobilize communities).The project is implemented in collaboration with Amref Health Africa in Tanzania, Marie Stopes Tanzania and Deloitte./ Le projet vise à réduire la mortalité et la morbidité des mères et des nouveau-nés dans les cinq districts de la région de Simiyu, en Tanzanie. The goal of this project is to... significantly improve maternal and newborn health for beneficiaries through improving the availability of quality maternal and newborn health services in underserved districts; and increasing the utilization of maternal and newborn health services for women and their families in target districts of all seven districts of Mwanza region, Tanzania. The project directly targets pregnant mothers and newborns. Beneficiaries also include men of reproductive age who would benefit from health promotion and sensitization activities aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. IMPACT increases access to quality services across the continuum of care, from community to facility, while strengthening leadership capacity at the health facility, local authority and community levels; and increasing community utilization of maternal and newborn health servicesProject activities include: (1) repairing, upgrading and equipping 80 public health facilities; (2) delivering fully functional basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC) at 67 dispensaries and health centres and comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care services (CEmONC ) at 13 hospitals or health centers; (3) providing training and supportive supervision, in collaboration with the Regional and Community Health Management Teams, to enhance health facility managers' ability to plan, budget and lead quality service delivery; (4) training and empowering 80 village health committees to build linkages with community health structures and effectively plan and enable a maternal and newborn health-supportive community environment; and (5) building the capacity of health workers and community health workers in high-impact packages such as Helping Babies Breathe, Kangaroo Mother Care, EmONC and Focused Antenatal Care.The project is implemented in collaboration with Aga Khan Foundation Tanzania, Aga Khan University and Aga Khan Medical Services./Le projet vise à améliorer considérablement la santé des mères et des nouveau-nés en assurant une meilleure disponibilité des services de santé maternelle et néonatale de qualité dans les districts mal desservis et en augmentant l'utilisation de ces services par les femmes et leurs familles dans les sept districts de la région de Mwanza en Tanzanie. This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH. Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems. The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results. / Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants. This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH. Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems. The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results. / Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants. Le MFM finance des plans nationaux pour la santé génésique, maternelle, néonatale et infantile, appuie des pays dans la transition vers un financement national durable de la santé génésique, maternelle, néonatale et infantile, finance le renforcement des systèmes d'établissement des statistiques de l'état civil et d'enregistrement des faits d'état civil ainsi que l'élaboration et le déploiement de biens publics mondiaux, et contribue au financement coordonné de la santé génésique, maternelle, néonatale et infantile. This contribution represents C...anada's long-term institutional support to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), a non-profit international health research, service, and training institution. icddr,b uses these funds, along with other donors' funding, to achieve its mandate.icddr,b's mandate is to provide free, high quality health care for the poor in Bangladesh, including maternal and child health services and treatment for diarrhoeal and other diseases. It also supports research that is designed to generate the data needed to develop policies and practices to address significant health challenges in Bangladesh and other countries.Canada's support to icddr,b contributes to ensuring that icddr,b is providing effective, evidence-based, gender-responsive health care and health education services for the poor. It also ensures that the icddr,b can continue to conduct important health research that translates into policies that can help to improve the health and reduce poverty levels of Bangladeshis. Canada's institutional support is also helping to strengthen the management systems and improve the sustainability of the Centre./ Cette contribution représente le soutien institutionnel à long terme du Canada au Centre international de recherche sur les maladies diarrhéiques du Bangladesh (CIRMD – Bangladesh), un institut international de recherche, de services et de formation dans le secteur de la santé à but non lucratif. This project aims to improve t...he health of mothers, newborns and children under five in order to improve children's growth and reduce death in 14 poor districts in Bangladesh. The corrective actions for each district address shortages and bottlenecks in the public health care system, respond to communication issues, train health service providers and expand cold storage to accommodate the introduction of new vaccines. The project activities are integrated in the Operational Plans of the Health Population and Nutrition Sector Development Program of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.The project empowers families and women with knowledge about available services and the standard of service they should expect. Over 1.5 million women and 5.8 million young children in Bangladesh are expected to benefit from this project./ Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants de moins de cinq ans afin d'améliorer la croissance des enfants et de réduire le taux de mortalité dans 14 districts pauvres au Bangladesh. Les mesures correctives prises dans chaque district visent à remédier aux manques et aux engorgements dans le système de soins de santé public, à régler les problèmes de communications, à former des fournisseurs de services de santé et à prévoir plus d'espace pour la réfrigération des nouveaux vaccins. Les activités du projet sont intégrées aux plans opérationnels du Programme de développement des secteurs de la santé, de la population et de la nutrition du Ministère de la Santé et de la Protection de la famille.Le projet permet aux familles et aux femmes de connaître les services disponibles et les normes de services auxquelles elles devraient s'attendre. Il est attendu que ce projet profite à plus de 1,5 million de femmes et à 5,8 millions de jeunes enfants au Bangladesh.

The goal of this project is to... improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls and women, and to reduce maternal and newborn mortality among vulnerable populations in Bolivia. This is to be achieved through a rights-based approach that is adolescent-friendly and culturally-sensitive. The project addresses barriers to adolescents' demand for reproductive and sexual health services, challenges in the provision of such services and community and institutional level governance and accountability. Plan Canada works with APROSAR (Bolivian NGO) to implement the project in 12 municipalities in the departments of La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Potosí./Le but de ce projet est d'améliorer la santé et les droits sexuels et reproductifs (SDSR) des adolescentes et des femmes, et de réduire la mortalité maternelle et néonatale parmi les populations vulnérables en Bolivie. Ceci est réalisé grâce à une approche basée sur les droits, adaptée aux adolescents et culturellement appropriée. Le projet vise à réduire les obstacles quant à la demande des adolescents pour des services de santé reproductive et sexuelle, les défis liés à l'offre de ces services et la gouvernance et la responsabilisation au niveau communautaire et institutionnel. Plan Canada travaille avec l'APROSAR (ONG bolivienne) pour mettre en œuvre le projet dans 12 municipalités des départements de La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca et Potosí.

This project is part of DFATD'...s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), which is within the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP is designed to offer young Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience through international development work.The Centre de solidarité internationale du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is sending 30 young Canadians in three countries (Equator, Senegal and Burkina Faso) for six months. Fields of intervention are: urban agriculture; sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry; solidarity marketing; community health; school dropout prevention; HIV/AIDS prevention; family planning and reproductive health; rural development; non-timber forest product transformation; nutrition; climate change adaptation; and, sustainable management of natural resources./ Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), qui est lié au programme de Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada. Le PSIJ vise à offrir aux jeunes Canadiens, titulaires d'un diplôme postsecondaire, la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle en participant au développement international.Le Centre de solidarité internationale du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean permet l'envoi de 30 jeunes canadiens dans trois pays (Équateur, Sénégal et Burkina Faso) pour une durée de six mois. This initiative aims to reduce... maternal and child mortality in 20 villages in Lubutu and Walikale, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.Activities include: (1) training health workers and community volunteers in reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; (2) sensitizing community members in reproductive health, family planning tools, water, hygiene and sanitation; (3) sensitizing pregnant women in safe pregnancy, delivery and motherhood; (4) building and equipping maternity wards with basic material, supplies and equipment; (5) providing supplies and material to support family planning promotion in health centres; 6) equipping mobile health units with material and supplies to deliver ante and post-natal care in remote areas; 7) constructing maternity wards with latrines and showers, medical waste incinerators, and placenta and waste pits; 8) providing clean water to new maternity wards and surrounding communities.This initiative will directly reach 77,209 people.Jane Goodall Institute of Canada is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: Jane Goodall Institute of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – Maniema Province, and Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – North Kivu Province./Cette initiative vise à réduire le taux de mortalité des mères et des enfants dans 20 villages du Lubutu et Walikale, en République Démocratique du Congo.Les activités incluent: 1) la formation des agents de santé et de volontaires communautaires sur la santé génésique, les outils de planification familiale, et l'eau, l'hygiène et l'assainissement; 2) sensibilisation des communautés sur la santé génésique, les outils de planification familiale, et l'eau, l'hygiène et l'assainissement; 3) sensibilisation des femmes enceintes en matière de grossesse et de maternité; 4) construction et équipements de salles de maternité avec du matériel de base, fournitures et équipement; 5) fournir du matériel pour appuyer la promotion de la planification familiale dans des établissements de santé; 6) équipement d'unités mobiles dotées de matériel et de fournitures pour dispenser des soins pré et postnatals dans des régions éloignées; 7) construction de nouvelles maternités avec des latrines, des douches, d'incinérateurs de déchets médicaux, de placenta et de fosses à déchets; 8) la fourniture d'eau potable à de nouvelles maternités et aux communautés environnantes.Cette initiative touche directement 77 209 personnes.L'institut Jane Goodall de Canada met en œuvre ce projet en collaboration avec les partenaires locaux suivant: L'institut Jane Goodall de la République Démocratique du Congo, Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction – Province de Maniema, and Programme National de Santé de la Reproduction –Province du Nord-Kivu.

This initiative aims to reduce... mother and child mortality rates in 15 areas of the Tshopo and Ituri provincial health divisions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's Eastern Province. Health divisions have poorly trained workers, little capacity to plan and high rates of mothers and Childs mortality. Through this initiative, the delivery of adapted health services to mothers and children (age 0-5) will be improved by increasing the professional skills of male and female health workers. Furthermore, supporting the local financial capacity will improve health services planning and access to quality data. To increase use of these health services, education campaigns will be launched to teach about reducing maternity risks, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, as well as early pregnancy.Activities include: 1) training health care providers; 2) strengthening executives' management skills; 3) building five maternity wards and 15 maternity rehabilitation wards; 4) providing equipment and medicines; 5) launching awareness campaigns for the prevention of mother-child HIV/AIDS transmission; 6) assisting 3,500 seropositive women and newborns; 7) launching an early pregnancy prevention campaign; 8) organising knowledge sharing and networking events for the general Canadian public in order to stimulate their commitment to support MNCH initiatives in developing countries.Direct beneficiaries are: 300,000 pregnant women, 90,000 spouses (men), 43,000 youth (age 15-24) as well as 455,000 newborns and children under five, of which 52% are girls. These beneficiaries will be better informed and/or will use the improved health services. More than 700 health care providers (nurses, doctors, specialists), and 355 health care managers and executives will have stronger professional skills.Oxfam Quebec is implementing this project in collaboration with the following local partners: : Anti-Bwaki Mothers' Association, Ituri Provincial Health Division and Tshopo Provincial Health Division./ Cette initiative vise à réduire la mortalité chez les mères et les enfants dans 15 zones des Divisions provinciales de la santé de la Tshopo et de l'Ituri, en Province Orientale de la République Démocratique du Congo (RDC). The project aims to improve th...e well-being of children and youth in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through the prevention of violence against children and youth, and the improvement of services for street children and at-risk families in five communes in Kinshasa. To do so, the project supports outreach activities and programs that focus on improving services offered at protection and health centres, taking into account the particular needs of girls and boys. The project also seeks to improve key public policies for child protection and strengthen respect of their rights. The project uses mechanisms such as inclusive consultation committees to allow children and youth to actively participate in, and influence, the decisions that affect them and the type of services available to them./Le projet vise à améliorer le bien-être des enfants et des jeunes en République démocratique du Congo (RDC) par la prévention de la violence faite aux enfants et l'amélioration des services offerts aux familles à risques et aux enfants de la rue dans cinq communes de Kinshasa. Pour ce faire, le projet appuie des programmes et des activités communautaires qui visent à améliorer les services offerts dans les centres de protection et de santé et qui prennent en compte les besoins particuliers des garçons et des filles. Le projet cherche également à améliorer les politiques publiques clés en matière de protection de l'enfant et à renforcer le respect de leurs droits. Le projet utilise des mécanismes tels que des comités consultatifs inclusifs permettant aux enfants et aux jeunes de participer activement aux décisions qui les touchent ou qui portent sur la nature des services offerts à leur endroit.

Family planning is critical to... advancing gender equality and adolescents' empowerment. Among development actors, UNFPA Supplies is the largest provider of contraceptives in the world and is pivotal to the achievement of the Family Planning 2020 (FP2020) goal of enabling 120 million more women and girls to have access to contraceptives by 2020. Canada's support to UNFPA Supplies contributes to increasing the availability and use of contraceptives by adolescents in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali. Project activities include: (1) supporting advocacy with governments for the inclusion of emergency contraception among an integrated package of reproductive health commodities available in-country; (2) improving adolescent and youth access to reproductive health services and information, including family planning and contraceptives, with a focus on humanitarian and fragile settings; and (3) strengthening capacity and systems for supply chain management to ensure availability of high-quality reproductive health supplies for adolescents and youth./La planification familiale est cruciale pour faire progresser l'égalité des sexes et le renforcement économique des adolescentes. Parmi les intervenants du développement, le «UNFPA Supplies» est le plus important fournisseur de contraceptifs au monde et joue un rôle essentiel dans l'atteinte de l'objectif de «Family Planning 2020» (FP2020) de permettre à 120 millions de femmes et de filles de plus d'avoir accès à des moyens de contraception d'ici 2020. This project is part of DFATD'...s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), which is within the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP is designed to offer young Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to gain professional experience through international development work.The Centre de solidarité internationale du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean is sending 30 young Canadians in three countries (Equator, Senegal and Burkina Faso) for six months. Fields of intervention are: urban agriculture; sustainable agriculture and animal husbandry; solidarity marketing; community health; school dropout prevention; HIV/AIDS prevention; family planning and reproductive health; rural development; non-timber forest product transformation; nutrition; climate change adaptation; and, sustainable management of natural resources./ Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), qui est lié au programme de Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada. Le PSIJ vise à offrir aux jeunes Canadiens, titulaires d'un diplôme postsecondaire, la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle en participant au développement international.Le Centre de solidarité internationale du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean permet l'envoi de 30 jeunes canadiens dans trois pays (Équateur, Sénégal et Burkina Faso) pour une durée de six mois. The objective of this initiati...ve is to increase the access of quality health services to women and children. The project supports 45 referral hospitals (that are more specialized and have the following basic services: medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology) through performance-based contracts to improve the quality and quantity of reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services. The project also supports the central and departmental levels' governance to ensure an efficient management and quality control and the monitoring of the performance of hospitals performances. Finally, the initiative supports the implementation of a coordinated network between the different levels of the health system to improve the care for women and children./L'objectif de l'initiative est d'accroître l'accès des femmes et des enfants à des services de santé de qualité. Le projet appuie 45 hôpitaux de référence (hôpitaux plus spécialisés disposant des services de base suivants : médecine, chirurgie, pédiatrie, obstétrique et gynécologie) à travers des contrats basés sur les résultats afin d'améliorer la qualité et la quantité des services de santé de la reproduction, des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants. Le projet appuie également la gouvernance aux niveaux central et départemental afin d'assurer une gestion, un contrôle de qualité et un suivi efficace de la performance des hôpitaux. Enfin, l'initiative appuie la mise en place d'un réseau coordonné entre les niveaux du système de santé afin d'améliorer la prise en charge des femmes et des enfants.

The project aims to increase t...he coverage of sexual and reproductive health services and quality care for mothers, newborns and children in 8 of the 15 communes of the Artibonite department in Haiti. This is achieved by strengthening the health governance of the department; strengthening institutional emergency obstetric and neonatal care and community building.Project activities include: (1) constructing or rehabilitating spaces to improve services in seven basic emergency obstetric and neonatal health care centers for pregnant women; (2) training and mentoring managers, nurses and health workers in family planning and maternal and neonatal health care; 3) carrying out micro-projects for the renovation or construction of drinking water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructures in the health facilities of the project; (4) training and accompanying 150 members of local voluntary women's organizations and doubling the number of community health workers (269) responsible for sensitizing and referring populations to available health services; and (5) strengthening the functioning of the supply centers responsible for the distribution of medicines and medical equipment throughout the department.Overall, health facilities supported by the project seek to provide such services to approximately 146 000 women, and 66 000 children under five./Le projet vise principalement à augmenter l'offre de services de qualité en santé sexuelle et reproductive, maternelle, néonatale et des enfants de première ligne dans 8 des 15 communes du département de l'Artibonite en Haïti. Ce but est atteint par le renforcement de la gouvernance de la santé du département; le renforcement institutionnel des soins obstétricaux et néonataux d'urgence et le renforcement communautaire.Parmi les activités du projet, notons entre autres : 1) construire ou réhabiliter des espaces pour améliorer les services dans sept centres de santé de soins obstétricaux et néonataux d'urgence de base pour les femmes enceintes; 2) former et encadrer des gestionnaires, infirmières et travailleurs de la santé en méthodes de planification familiale et en soins de santé maternelle et néonatale; 3) réaliser des microprojets de rénovation ou construction d'infrastructures d'approvisionnement en eau potable, en assainissement et en hygiène dans les établissements de santé du projet; 4) former et accompagner 150 membres d'organisations locales de femmes bénévoles et doubler le nombre d'agents de santé communautaire (269) responsables de sensibiliser et référer les populations aux services de santé disponibles; 5) renforcer le fonctionnement des centres d'approvisionnement responsables de la distribution des médicaments et du matériel médical sur l'ensemble du département.Les établissements de santé appuyés par le projet cherchent à fournir de tels services à environ 146 000 femmes et 66 000 enfants de moins de cinq ans.
