To improve the nutritional sta...tus of women and children below five years of age by increasing coverage and uptake of high impact nutrition and childcare interventions and strengthening evidence based multi-sectoral response to under nutrition in Ethiopia.
more
|
Our investment will support th...e implementation of a package of high impact nutrition and newborn interventions in the four worse affected regions. This will include vitamin A supplementation, deworming and provision of zinc to children with diarrhoea; the promotion of breastfeeding and nutritious complementary feeding; postnatal care and the treatment of neonatal sepsis; and iron supplementation and nutrition counselling for pregnant and lactating women (PLW). The programme will be done by: training, supervising and providing nutrition commodities to existing community Health Extension Workers (HEWs); conducting Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) campaigns; increasing coverage of Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and strengthening the supply of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF); strengthening government’s coordination around the NNP; and strengthening the data availability and evidence base on nutrition programming. To provide increased coverage ...with essential reproductive, maternal and child health services in DFID-supported health zones. To increase coverage with essential health services in 52 DFID-supported health zones in five provinces (Nord Ubangi, Kasai-Centrale, Kasai, Maniema, Tshopo). This will benefit over 9 million Congolese citizens, and contributes towards achievement of MDGs through the delivery of services to improve reproductive, maternal and child health

ASSP (Accès aux Soins de Sant...é Primaires) is implemented by a consortium of NGOs led by IMA World Health (see table 1) and currently supports 52 health zones (out of 516 nationally) in five of the 26 provinces in DRC. It provides an estimated 9 million people with access to essential primary and (to a lesser extent) secondary healthcare services. The design phase began in October 2012 with implementation expected to run for five years from April 2013 to March 2018.
- At community level, ASSP aims to generate demand for services, and strengthen the voice of communities and service users in holding service providers to account for their delivery. The programme also includes a large WASH component and a nutrition package for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition.
- At health facility level, ASSP is supporting the construction and renovation of health centres and hospitals and provides facilities with essential equipment, drugs/supplies, training and an operational allowance. These inputs enable services to be provided and user fees to be substantially reduced, or removed altogether for vulnerable groups.
- At health zone level, ASSP strengthens government capacity to manage health zones by enabling Équipes Cadres de Zones de Santé (health zone management teams, ECZS) to supervise health facilities and to use planning tools for the development of the health zone.
- At provincial level, ASSP supports the Directions Provinciales de Santé (provincial health divisions, DPS), and is rehabilitating and enhancing the capacity of Centrales de Distribution Régionales (regional drug distribution centres, CDRs).
- At central level, technical assistance is being provided to the Ministry of Health through ASSP to improve public financial management, and the programme is helping to set up and roll out new information systems for both health and human resources management. It also supports the Ministry to develop and disseminate norms and standards, and has facilitated policy dialogue with faith-based providers of health services.

DFID Info: Health education: 3...7% - Output 2: Enhanced access to information and engagement around reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health
What BBC WST will deliver
BBC WST will focus its health activities in countries where reproductive, maternal and child health are most at risk. It will work particularly in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India and South Sudan. Together these five countries account for nearly 35% of maternal deaths worldwide. Activities under this output will reach more than 82 million people and will regularly reach 33 million.
The project will work to improve health by:
• Enhancing knowledge and awareness about the benefits of healthy behaviours, increasing demand for available health-related products and services.
• Challenging social and cultural barriers to good health such as gender norms, traditional power structures or stigma and discrimination.
• Increasing levels of self-efficacy so that people develop the confidence to adopt a new behaviour .
• Building societal support for change particularly through stimulating informed debate and discussion at community level, including between ordinary people and those making health policies and providing health services.
The overall impact of this work will be measured according to shifts in knowledge, norms and behaviours related to reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH).
Projects will also strengthen the capacity of government agencies, local media and those working in health-related non governmental organisations (NGOs) and civil society organisations (CSOs) to work effectively with communication and media to improve health.
1. Strengthened communication platforms for domestic accountability and public dialogue (Governance output = 62% of total expenditure)
2. Enhanced access to information and engagement around reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health (Health output = 25% of total expenditure)
3. Enhanced access to information and communication aimed at improving communities’ resilience to humanitarian crises (with a focus on climate-related risks) (Resilience & Preparedness output = 9% of total expenditure)
4. A strengthened evidence base on the role of media and communication in democratic development, including the role of donor support (Evidence and Policy output = 4% of total expenditure).

The HCS is focussed on helping... the three regional health authorities of Somaliland, Puntland and the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) put into action the EPHS framework which they adopted in 2009. This sets out 10 priority health interventions to be implemented at primary health units (community), health centres, and local and regional hospitals, with overarching support for nutrition. The framework includes activities that increase demand, such as community meetings and radio and mobile phone messages, increasing awareness of the benefits of family planning and safe delivery, improving health clinics, providing family planning, ante-natal care and safe delivery, caring for new-borns, giving vaccinations, preventing and treating pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria, TB and AIDS, as well as screening for and treating malnutrition. The HCS is addressing all EPHS issues, but with a priority on RMNH and family planning and child health.

Kurdish Human Rights Watch - T...raining of Trainers on Human Rights and Gender Based Violence for Peshmerga Forces
more
|
Kurdish regional security reli...es to a great part on the regional armed forces, the Peshmerga. When they are accused of committing human rights and Gender Based Violence (GBV) violations, this often remains without consequences. Even though Peshmerga are supported by an international coalition, they still lack knowledge on how to deal with Human Rights issues, especially GBV issues. Part of this challenge is that Peshmerga forces have never been trained on these particular issues. This project aims at providing 20 Peshmerga officers with human rights and GBV trainings to become permanent trainers inside the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs. This is a follow-up project to a first initiative supported by Switzerland on GBV trainings for Peshmerga forces (2016-2017).

To support poor rural women by... providing them with reliable access to a range of effective family planning services through mobile clinical outreach and by delivering more than 4.4million Couple-Years of Protection (CYPs) to over 1.1million rural women and adolescence girls. The project will also provide 30,000 women and girls with access to safe post-abortion care (medical and surgical) resulting in fewer deaths and serious complications) and at least 800 health workers will be trained to offer a wider range of contraceptive services. This will result in more than 916,000 fewer pregnancies and 2,300 fewer maternal deaths by 2018. The project will also provide around 28,000 women who have suffered sexual violence with support to aid them in recovering as well as helping them to advance their court cases, making the environment more supportive for women.
