The project seeks to implement... evidence-based maternal newborn and child health (MNCH) interventions to reduce mortality and morbidity of pregnant women and newborns in underserved districts of Kigoma region, Tanzania. This goal is achieved by improving the availability of quality MNCH services in underserved districts and increasing the utilization of maternal and newborn health services by women and their families in targeted districts. The project also aims to strengthen the capacity of council and health facility management teams to deliver services by training local health managers on evidence-informed program planning and decision making.Project activities include: (1) training 190 local health managers and Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) on evidence-based planning and budgeting, leadership, supportive supervision, and supply chain management of essential pharmaceuticals and contraceptives; (2) supporting the CHMTs to develop and implement a data quality assurance and maternal and newborn mortality review system at district and health facility levels; (3) training and mentoring 335 frontline health workers to enhance their clinical capacity on emergency obstetric and neonatal care and family planning; (4) strengthening referral networks and supporting quarterly mobile outreach MNCH clinics and supportive supervision visits to hard-to-reach areas; (5) upgrading and equipping 26 health facilities with medical equipment and WASH facilities to provide Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care services; and (6) conducting awareness sessions and community conversations with men and women support groups to discuss family planning issues and address concerns around the use of contraceptives, antenatal care and men's role in supporting pregnant women and newborns./ Le projet vise à effectuer des interventions en santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants (SMNE) fondées sur des faits pour réduire la mortalité et la morbidité des femmes enceintes et des nouveau-nés dans les districts mal desservis de la région de Kigoma, en Tanzanie. The project seeks to improve a...ccess to family planning and health outcomes of vulnerable young mothers and their newborns in all four districts of the remote and underserved region of Rukwa, Tanzania. The project targets women, adolescent mothers and newborns that are especially overlooked and under informed on maternal health and, having limited access to or utilization of maternal and newborn services. It addresses the main causes of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity through a two pronged approach that increases utilization and availability of quality maternal and newborn health services by women and their families. It also ensures greater access to quality gender-sensitive and adolescent-friendly maternal and newborn health services, including family planning, to reduce maternal, newborn, and infant mortality rates. Project activities include: (1) training healthcare staff on high-impact maternal and newborn health interventions such as basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC), comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care (CEmONC), Helping Babies Breathe program, Kangaroo Mother Care, post-partum care and family planning; (2) equipping select facilities and hospitals with BEmONC and CEmONC equipment, Helping Babies Breathe and Kangaroo Mother Care supplies, reproductive health commodities and gender sensitive/adolescent friendly information, education and communication materials; (3) training community health workers and supporting outreach on gender equality, reproductive health services including family planning, and adolescent friendly maternal and newborn health; (4) conduct Village Health Days to provide maternal and newborn health services, including vitamin A, deworming and immunization for children under five; (5) develop new village savings and loans associations for adolescents and support existing ones for adults and community health workers to improve the financial independence of women and girls and promote the allocation of emergency funds. The project is implemented in collaboration with Jhpiego, Africare and White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood Tanzania. / Le projet vise à améliorer l'accès aux services de la planification familiale et l'état de santé des jeunes mères vulnérables et leurs nouveau-nés dans les quatre districts de la région éloignée et mal desservie de Rukwa, en Tanzanie. The goal of this project is to... significantly improve maternal and newborn health for beneficiaries through improving the availability of quality maternal and newborn health services in underserved districts; and increasing the utilization of maternal and newborn health services for women and their families in target districts of all seven districts of Mwanza region, Tanzania. The project directly targets pregnant mothers and newborns. Beneficiaries also include men of reproductive age who would benefit from health promotion and sensitization activities aimed at improving maternal and newborn health outcomes. IMPACT increases access to quality services across the continuum of care, from community to facility, while strengthening leadership capacity at the health facility, local authority and community levels; and increasing community utilization of maternal and newborn health servicesProject activities include: (1) repairing, upgrading and equipping 80 public health facilities; (2) delivering fully functional basic emergency obstetric and newborn care (BEmONC) at 67 dispensaries and health centres and comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care services (CEmONC ) at 13 hospitals or health centers; (3) providing training and supportive supervision, in collaboration with the Regional and Community Health Management Teams, to enhance health facility managers' ability to plan, budget and lead quality service delivery; (4) training and empowering 80 village health committees to build linkages with community health structures and effectively plan and enable a maternal and newborn health-supportive community environment; and (5) building the capacity of health workers and community health workers in high-impact packages such as Helping Babies Breathe, Kangaroo Mother Care, EmONC and Focused Antenatal Care.The project is implemented in collaboration with Aga Khan Foundation Tanzania, Aga Khan University and Aga Khan Medical Services./Le projet vise à améliorer considérablement la santé des mères et des nouveau-nés en assurant une meilleure disponibilité des services de santé maternelle et néonatale de qualité dans les districts mal desservis et en augmentant l'utilisation de ces services par les femmes et leurs familles dans les sept districts de la région de Mwanza en Tanzanie. Le projet cible directement les nouveau-nés et les femmes enceintes. This project is part of the De...partment of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad, needed to launch successful careers. The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation offers 40 Canadian interns internships in nine countries: Bhutan, Bolivia, Gambia, Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica, South Africa, Kenya, and Uganda. The internships focus on increasing food security, stimulating sustainable economic growth and capacity-building. Interns assist in preparing educational and communications materials, facilitating and designing workshops, organizing events and managing projects. / Ce projet fait partie du Programme de stages pour les jeunes (PSIJ) du Ministère des Affaires étrangères, Commerce et Développement (MAECD), financé par la Stratégie emploi jeunesse (SEJ) du gouvernement du Canada, sous le volet Objectif carrière. Le PSIJ vise à offrir aux jeunes Canadiens titulaires d'un diplôme postsecondaire la possibilité d'acquérir une expérience professionnelle en participant au développement international, nécessaire pour amorcer une carrière réussie. Le Conseil atlantique pour la coopération internationale permet à 40 stagiaires canadiens d'intervenir dans neuf pays, soit au Bhutan, en Bolivie, en Gambie, au Ghana, en Haiti, en Jamaique, en Afrique du Sud, au Kenya et en Ouganda. Les stages visent à augmenter la sécurité alimentaire, à stimuler la croissance économique de manière durable et à renforcer les capacités des partenaires locaux. This UNFPA project would suppo...rt 58 community birthing centres,d establish 115 new ones, and train 140 community midwives to provide non-existent reproductive and essential health services in remote areas of Afghanistan. It is 100% aligned with PM Trudeau's June 2016 commitment made in Warsaw, which is framed by a Women's and Girls' Rights First approach to promote reproductive rights and improve access to health services, specifically for women and adolescent girls. It would improve SRHR (100%) of women and girls by 1) training female health workers; 2) establishing reproductive health facilities offering basic obstetric care (pre/post-natal/newborn care, delivery, referral) and family planning services and; 3) establishing a support mechanism for victims of gender-based violence. The project would also support the capacity of the Afghan Ministry of Public Health to integrate these facilities into the national public health system. This GE-2 project supports Human Development (Health)./Le but du projet est d'améliorer l'offre des services de santé destinés aux femmes en Afghansitan. Le projet permettra d'appuyer les activités des 58m maisons de santé familiale déjà créées dans la province de Daikundi et de créer 115 nouvelles maisons de santé familiale dans le pays. Chaque maison compte une salle d'accouchement et une salle d'examen permettant à une sagefemme communautaire formée de faire son travail sans risques. La collectivité est responsable du choix de l'emplacement des maisons et de leur construction. Comme les services fournis par la sagefemme sont des services de santé génésique de base, le projet met également en place un système d'aiguillage vers les soins appropriés pour les femmes et les nouveau-nés qui ont besoin de soins d'urgence, les femmes avec une grossesse à haut risque et les femmes qui nécessitent des soins obstétriques d'urgence. Les maisons reçoivent un appui supplémentaire de la part d'équipes de santé mobiles de centres de santé existants, qui fournissent du matériel et de la supervision et du mentorat pour les sages-femmes.Parmi les activités du projet : 1) former les sages-femmes et fournir, aux maisons de santé familiale, de l'équipement médical et de diagnostic nécessaire pour assurer l'accouchement sans risques; 2) mettre en place des systèmes de télécommunication et de transport communautaires entre les maisons et des centres de santé pour faciliter l'aiguillage.Results:Les résultats intermédiaires escomptés de ce projet comprennent : la réduction de la mortalité et de la morbidité maternelle et néonatale dans les zones desservies par les Maisons de santé familiale, et la promotion de comportements dans les familles et les communautés qui améliorent la santé reproductive des femmes.

This project will provide the funding to develop and manage the program.About the programThe program is part of the Global Health Research Initiative, a collaboration between Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and IDRC. It represents a joint investment of $36 million over seven years to target maternal and child health in nine countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan, and Tanzania.Better health policy and researchThese funds will support two health policy and research organizations. They will also be used to fund 20 implementation research teams. The teams will conduct research to strengthen equitable health systems to improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. This joint initiative, UNICEF-...UNFPA, will help reduce deaths of girls, women and infants by promoting and improving sexual and reproductive health services and rights and access to related information services. It will particularly focus on increasing effective coverage of key sexual and reproductive health services and rights including maternal newborn child health services in low performing districts. It will address gaps and weakness of local government service delivery capacity, geography and culture to reduce preventable deaths amongst women and infants. The overall goal of the proposed initiative is to contribute and accelerate the existing efforts of the government of Bangladesh in promoting sexual and reproductive health and rights of the population, especially among women and adolescents, including efforts to improve maternal, new-born, child and adolescent health./ Cette initiative conjointe, UNICEF et FNUAP, contribuera à réduire les décès de filles, de femmes et de nourrissons en promouvant et en améliorant les services et les droits en matière de santé sexuelle et génésique ainsi que l'accès aux services d'information connexes. Il se concentrera en particulier sur l'augmentation de la couverture efficace des services et des droits en matière de santé sexuelle et génésique, y compris les services de santé de la mère et du nouveau-né dans les districts à faible rendement. Il permettra de combler les lacunes et la faiblesse de la capacité de prestation de services des autorités locales, l'impact géographique et de la culture afin de réduire les décès évitables chez les femmes et les nourrissons. This project aims to reduce ch...ild, early and forced marriage in the Bhola and Jhalokati districts of Bangladesh. It also aims to reduce the vulnerability and poverty of adolescents in these two districts with a focus on reducing the proportion of girls under 18 years of age that are married. Bangladesh has one of the highest child marriage rates in the world. Approximately 52% of girls in Bangladesh are married by their 18th birthday, and 18% by the age of 15. Bhola and Jhalokati districts are among the poorest districts in Bangladesh and have the highest rates of child marriage in the country. Project activities include: (1) raising awareness and engaging adolescents, especially girls, in life skills education such as financial literacy and vocational abilities, (2) mobilizing community stakeholders by encouraging open, inclusive and informed discussions on the harmful impact of child marriage, and (3) strengthening existing child protection mechanisms. / Ce projet vise à réduire les mariages d'enfants, précoces et forcés dans les districts de Bhola et de Jhalokati au Bangladesh. Il vise aussi à réduire la vulnérabilité et la pauvreté des adolescents dans ces deux districts en mettant l'accent sur la réduction de la proportion de filles de moins de 18 ans mariées. Le Bangladesh a l'un des taux de mariage d'enfants les plus élevés au monde. Environ 52 % des filles au Bangladesh sont mariées avant leur 18e anniversaire et 18 % à l'âge de 15 ans. Les districts de Bhola et de Jhalokati sont parmi les plus pauvres du Bangladesh et affichent les taux de mariage d'enfants les plus élevés du pays. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) la sensibilisation et l'engagement des adolescents, en particulier des filles, dans l'éducation aux compétences de base de la vie telles que la connaissance des finances et les aptitudes professionnelles, 2) mobiliser les parties prenantes de la communauté en encourageant des discussions ouvertes, inclusives et informées sur l'impact négatif du mariage des enfants, 3) renforcer les mécanismes existants de protection de l'enfance.
