This pilot project aims to con...tribute to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in four districts of the Kayes region. It supports the Government of Mali with the implementation of its Health and Social Development Plan (PRODESS), specifically to improve Maternal and Neonatal Health. The project is designed to complete the integrated community-level health system thereby strengthening the referral and evacuation plan, including the transport of pregnant women from villages to community health centres.The project comprises two complementary components: The first component takes the form of direct financial support to the four selected district authorities through the Regional Health Directorate. It aims to make new resources available for upgrading or building new health units, ensuring key services are available (e.g. emergency obstetric care, prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS), having appropriate transportation in place, and ensuring availability and quality of qualified personnel, medicines and medical supplies. The second component is providing technical assistance by a Canadian support agency to assist the four districts with the implementation of their operational plans. It aims to help the local communities to get organized in order to set up in their villages a system to effectively reduce the delay in getting women in labour to the health centre. This component also contributes to strengthening the capacity of the local structures to plan and manage human and financial resources as well as to monitoring results.Part of the resources of this pilot project are being dedicated for the analysis of the results and the development and implementation of a results-dissemination strategy designed to inform the possible scaling up of this initiative.This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment./ Ce projet pilote vise à contribuer à la réduction de la mortalité maternelle et néonatale dans quatre districts de la région de Kayes. This project aims to help redu...ce illness and death among mothers and children by improving the delivery of comprehensive and integrated sexual and reproductive health services to poor, marginalized and high-risk communities. Providing access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, is critical to improving maternal and child health on a sustainable basis. Access to these services empowers women and girls, improves their life opportunities, and reduces maternal and infant mortality caused by the transmission of HIV and unplanned pregnancies. This project is in line with the priorities of the Muskoka Initiative relating to the health of mothers, newborns and children. / Ce projet vise à réduire les cas de maladie et le nombre des décès chez les mères et les enfants en améliorant la prestation de services de santé sexuelle et génésique complets et intégrés aux collectivités pauvres, marginalisées et à risque élevé. L'accès aux services de santé sexuelle et génésique, incluant la planification familiale, est essentiel pour une amélioration durable de la santé maternelle et infantile. L'accès à ces services rend les femmes et filles plus autonomes, améliore leurs perspectives de vie et réduit la mortalité maternelle et infantile causée par la transmission du VIH et les grossesses involontaires. Ce projet est conforme aux priorités établies par l'Initiative de Muskoka à l'égard de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants.

The project aims to improve ma...ternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition practices, and strengthen local health systems in 12 districts in the Mopti Region of Mali, the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, and the province of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. Using a community-based approach, the project aims to increase health centre coverage, improve the skills of government health management and medical staff and community health workers, and contribute to reduce malnutrition amongst women and young children. Expected direct beneficiaries include 363,709 women, 196,857 children, and 274 health facility workers. Project activities include: training health care providers in obstetric care, and child health and nutrition; improving procedures and communication across all levels of community health facilities; and helping local committees to carry out nutrition education campaigns for mothers and children. The Aga Khan Foundation Canada is working with the Aga Khan Development Network (Mali), Aga Khan Foundation (Mozambique), Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) and Aga Khan Health Services (Pakistan) to implement this project. The expected intermediate outcomes of this project include: improved nutrition practices of women and children; increased use of integrated maternal, newborn and child health services by women and children under five years of age; and, increased quality of maternal, newborn and child health services provided to women and children under five years of age. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et l'alimentation des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, tout en renforçant les systèmes de santé locaux de 12 districts de la région Mopti du Mali, de la province Cabo Delgado au Mozambique, et de la province de Gilgit-Baltistan au Pakistan. En utilisant une approche communautaire, le projet vise à augmenter le rayonnement des centres de santé, améliorer les compétences de la gestion gouvernementale pour la santé, du personnel médical et des travailleurs de santé communautaire, tout en contribuant à la réduction de la malnutrition parmi les femmes et les jeunes enfants. Les bénéficiaires directs prévus comptent 363 709 femmes, 196 857 enfants et 274 travailleurs dans les établissements de santé. This project specifically aims to improve the availability and accessibility of essential obstetrical and neonatal care in the country's functional health structures. / Le projet appuie le Mali dans ses efforts pour améliorer la santé des mères et des nouveau-nés et contribue à améliorer l'accès et la qualité des soins pour plus 596,919 femmes enceintes, nouvelles mamans et leurs nouveau-nés. Le projet concorde avec les priorités du Gouvernement malien visant à améliorer la qualité et l'accès aux soins de santé en vue de diminuer les hauts taux de mortalité et de morbidité chez les mères et les nouveau-nés qui persistent au Mali. This project aims to improve t...he quality and timeliness of maternal and newborn health services and reduce illness and death for at least 10,000 pregnant women and newborns. The project works to increase the number of trained health workers and improve access to quality care for mothers and newborns by creating three Centres of Excellence in Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. The Centres of Excellence are expected to provide health services, teaching and training in three locations in Mozambique. The project is implemented in three hospitals, which serve a substantial proportion of the population in their respective areas. The three high-use hospitals, currently designated as a Model Maternity by the Ministry of Health, are already providing pre-service training for health workers. The project aims to improve infrastructure, improve the quality of training provided, provide supervision support and enhance referral and community linkages, in order to transform these three hospitals into Centres of Excellence. Project activities include: (i) supporting communities and facilities to provide emergency transport to transfer women to facilities, including by distributing bicycle ambulances, and by providing small grants to strengthen local transport systems; (ii) establishing mobile phone networks so that smaller, peripheral health facilities can communicate easily with each Centre of Excellence; and (iii) improving the skills of at least 150 health workers using a model of competency-based training which focuses on learning-by-doing./Ce projet vise à améliorer la qualité et la rapidité des services de santé maternelle et néonatale, et à réduire les taux de morbidité et de mortalité chez au moins 10 000 femmes enceintes et nouveau-nés. The project aims to improve ma...ternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition practices, and strengthen local health systems in 12 districts in the Mopti Region of Mali, the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, and the province of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. Using a community-based approach, the project aims to increase health centre coverage, improve the skills of government health management and medical staff and community health workers, and contribute to reduce malnutrition amongst women and young children. Expected direct beneficiaries include 363,709 women, 196,857 children, and 274 health facility workers. Project activities include: training health care providers in obstetric care, and child health and nutrition; improving procedures and communication across all levels of community health facilities; and helping local committees to carry out nutrition education campaigns for mothers and children. The Aga Khan Foundation Canada is working with the Aga Khan Development Network (Mali), Aga Khan Foundation (Mozambique), Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) and Aga Khan Health Services (Pakistan) to implement this project. The expected intermediate outcomes of this project include: improved nutrition practices of women and children; increased use of integrated maternal, newborn and child health services by women and children under five years of age; and, increased quality of maternal, newborn and child health services provided to women and children under five years of age. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et l'alimentation des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, tout en renforçant les systèmes de santé locaux de 12 districts de la région Mopti du Mali, de la province Cabo Delgado au Mozambique, et de la province de Gilgit-Baltistan au Pakistan. En utilisant une approche communautaire, le projet vise à augmenter le rayonnement des centres de santé, améliorer les compétences de la gestion gouvernementale pour la santé, du personnel médical et des travailleurs de santé communautaire, tout en contribuant à la réduction de la malnutrition parmi les femmes et les jeunes enfants. Les bénéficiaires directs prévus comptent 363 709 femmes, 196 857 enfants et 274 travailleurs dans les établissements de santé. This project aims to improve t...he health of people living in 251 rural villages in Mozambique, Tanzania and Burundi by increasing their access to primary health care and clean water, promoting good health habits, and improving the agricultural yield of smallholder farmers. Most illnesses and deaths in the project villages are due to preventable diseases, lack of access to trained health workers and lack of access to clean water and adequate food. The project therefore seeks to increase the number of community health workers, provide bicycle ambulances to remote villages, build or expand basic health infrastructure where most needed, and enhance access to clean water by refurbishing old wells and building new ones. The project also educates women, men and children on sexual reproductive health, proper nutrition and sanitation, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and gender issues, and trains both women and men farmers on best practices in sustainable agriculture. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des populations de 194 villages ruraux au Mozambique, en Tanzanie et au Burundi en augmentant l'accès aux soins de santé primaire et à l'eau potable, en faisant la promotion de saines habitudes de vie et en améliorant le rendement agricole des petits exploitants. Le projet contribue à augmenter le nombre de travailleurs communautaires dans le secteur de la santé, à fournir des vélos-ambulances aux villages éloignés, à construire ou à agrandir des infrastructures de santé de base dans les collectivités qui en ont le plus besoin et à améliorer l'accès à l'eau potable en creusant ou en rénovant des puits. Le projet enseigne également aux femmes, aux hommes et aux enfants les principes de santé sexuelle et génésique, de nutrition et d'hygiène, de santé maternelle et infantile, de prévention du VIH/sida et d'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Une formation sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'agriculture durable est également donnée aux agriculteurs et agricultrices.

The project aims to improve ma...ternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition practices, and strengthen local health systems in 12 districts in the Mopti Region of Mali, the province of Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, and the province of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. Using a community-based approach, the project aims to increase health centre coverage, improve the skills of government health management and medical staff and community health workers, and contribute to reduce malnutrition amongst women and young children. Expected direct beneficiaries include 363,709 women, 196,857 children, and 274 health facility workers. Project activities include: training health care providers in obstetric care, and child health and nutrition; improving procedures and communication across all levels of community health facilities; and helping local committees to carry out nutrition education campaigns for mothers and children. The Aga Khan Foundation Canada is working with the Aga Khan Development Network (Mali), Aga Khan Foundation (Mozambique), Aga Khan Foundation (Pakistan) and Aga Khan Health Services (Pakistan) to implement this project. The expected intermediate outcomes of this project include: improved nutrition practices of women and children; increased use of integrated maternal, newborn and child health services by women and children under five years of age; and, increased quality of maternal, newborn and child health services provided to women and children under five years of age. This project is part of Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment. / Le projet vise à améliorer la santé et l'alimentation des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, tout en renforçant les systèmes de santé locaux de 12 districts de la région Mopti du Mali, de la province Cabo Delgado au Mozambique, et de la province de Gilgit-Baltistan au Pakistan. En utilisant une approche communautaire, le projet vise à augmenter le rayonnement des centres de santé, améliorer les compétences de la gestion gouvernementale pour la santé, du personnel médical et des travailleurs de santé communautaire, tout en contribuant à la réduction de la malnutrition parmi les femmes et les jeunes enfants. This project aims to provide g...reater access to primary health care, including basic dental and gynecological services, to poor indigenous women and their families living in remote, mountainous areas of south-eastern Peru. Using three mobile clinics, professionals from private and public health institutions tour villages to deliver quality health services to beneficiaries at substantially lower costs than market price. The project is in line with the Peruvian government s strategy to facilitate access to health care for poor and vulnerable populations and is complementary to Peru s national health insurance system. The project is implemented by Impact First International (formerly GEMS of Hope), in collaboration with Pro Mujer Peru. This is one of two parts of a project valued at $319,723. The first part has been completed. / Ce projet vise à donner un meilleur accès aux soins de santé primaires, incluant des soins dentaires de base et des services gynécologiques, aux femmes autochtones pauvres et à leurs familles vivant dans des régions reculées et montagneuses au sud-est du Pérou. Des professionnels d institutions de santé publiques et privées parcourent les villages avec trois cliniques mobiles et offrent des soins de santé aux bénéficiaires à des coûts beaucoup plus bas que ceux du marché. Le projet est en lien avec la stratégie du gouvernement péruvien visant à faciliter l accès aux soins de santé aux plus pauvres et vulnérables de la société. An important element of the project is the use of a county based model to support comprehensive service delivery through primary health care centres under the leadership of the County Health Department. This project aims to increase ...the survival of mothers, newborns and children by bringing life-saving health services directly to 350,000 people in 609 remote communities in Warrap State. These services are brought to communities using community volunteers, and more complicated cases referred to the nearest primary health care centres.Some project activities include: (i) staffing and equipping four mobile outreach clinics; (ii) training 1,511 community health volunteers in health promotion (breastfeeding, better nutrition, vaccinations, etc.); (iii) providing micronutrients to improve nutrition; (iv) delivering life-saving interventions for malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia to children under five, including distributing 116,000 insecticide-treated anti-malaria bed nets; (v) reducing the incidence of water-borne diseases by building and managing 170 safe drinking water-points and 5,000 household latrines, and; (vi) capacity building of the Warrap Ministry of Health and training of the South Sudan Red Cross to train and supervise volunteers and collaborate with the Ministry of Health.This project contributes to Canada's Maternal, Newborn and Child Health commitment./ Ce projet a pour objet d'améliorer la survie des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants en offrant des services de santé essentiels directement à 350 000 personnes dans 609 collectivités éloignées de l'État de Warrap. This project aims to help redu...ce illness and death among mothers and children by improving the delivery of comprehensive and integrated sexual and reproductive health services to poor, marginalized and high-risk communities. Providing access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, is critical to improving maternal and child health on a sustainable basis. Access to these services empowers women and girls, improves their life opportunities, and reduces maternal and infant mortality caused by the transmission of HIV and unplanned pregnancies. This project is in line with the priorities of the Muskoka Initiative relating to the health of mothers, newborns and children. / Ce projet vise à réduire les cas de maladie et le nombre des décès chez les mères et les enfants en améliorant la prestation de services de santé sexuelle et génésique complets et intégrés aux collectivités pauvres, marginalisées et à risque élevé. L'accès aux services de santé sexuelle et génésique, incluant la planification familiale, est essentiel pour une amélioration durable de la santé maternelle et infantile. L'accès à ces services rend les femmes et filles plus autonomes, améliore leurs perspectives de vie et réduit la mortalité maternelle et infantile causée par la transmission du VIH et les grossesses involontaires. The project supports the imple...mentation of the Strategic Plan of Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT), a Tanzanian non-governmental organization and one of the only providers of health services to disabled Tanzanians. Some of the major activities of the Strategic Plan are: provision of quality preventive, curative and rehabilitative services to people living with disabilities, particularly children and women in underserved areas; human resources and capacity development; outreach, advocacy and awareness-raising on disability issues; and ensuring that adequate infrastructure and medical equipment are available to vulnerable groups. Through this project and the work of CCBRT, disabled and vulnerable Tanzanians, including women and children in particular, are expected to see improved quality gender-sensitive preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. / Le projet appuie la mise en oeuvre du Plan stratégique d'une organisation non gouvernementale en Tanzanie qui est l'un des seuls fournisseurs de services en santé pour les personnes handicapées en Tanzanie, Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT). Les activités principales du Plan stratégique comprennent : la livraison de services de qualité en santé préventive, curative et réadaptive aux personnes handicapées, plus particulièrement aux enfants et femmes vivant dans des régions défavorisées en matière de services; le développement des ressources humaines et des capacités; la diffusion d'information; la défense des droits et la sensibilisation sur les questions relatives aux handicaps; assurer une infrastructure et des équipements médicaux adéquats et disponibles pour les groupes vulnérables. Grâce à ce projet et au travail du CCBRT, il est attendu que les personnes handicapées et vulnérables en Tanzanie, plus particulièrement les femmes et les enfants, bénéficient de services santé préventive, curative et ré adaptive de qualité et sensibilisés aux questions d'égalité entre les hommes et les femmes.

This project aims to strengthe...n maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services at the local level and reduce the number of mothers and children who die due to disease in Tanzania. The project includes improving policies and practices that promote maternal and newborn health and nutrition in a gender-responsive manner, in order to improve access to quality reproductive health, child health, and nutrition services for women and children. The project works to bring basic emergency obstetric and newborn care services and integrated management of newborn and childhood illness to 70% of health centers in underserved districts. It helps to establish comprehensive emergency obstetric and newborn care services in all six district health facilities in Zanzibar. As a result of this project, 80% of primary health care facilities are expected to have at least two trained MNCH health providers and all regional and targeted districts are expected to have one trained nutrition coordinator. The project also aims to connect at least 40% of districts to electronic stock management systems that enable them to monitor their supply of essential medicines, vaccines, contraceptives, and other supplies and to forecast future requirements. The project is expected to lead to skilled attendants assisting 80% of births, a decrease in chronic malnutrition among children in targeted districts, and a 50% increase in breastfeeding for infants under six months of age. The One UN Program promotes improved coordination, efficiency, and effectiveness of UN agencies at the country level by establishing one leader, one program, one budgetary framework, and one office for all the agencies. This project is part of Canada s maternal, newborn, and child health commitment. / Ce projet vise à renforcer les services de santé destinés aux mères, aux nouveau-nés et aux enfants (SMNE) au niveau local ainsi qu à réduire le nombre de mères et d enfants en Tanzanie qui décèdent des suites d une maladie. The goal of this project is to... improve the health of women and girls, especially mothers, in six districts of the Tabora region. It aims to reduce the barriers that prevent women in rural areas from getting access to the health services they require, to provide better-quality health services for mothers and children in rural areas, and to improve the ability of community health management teams to deliver quality health services. The project enhances women's ability to pay for health services; improves the knowledge and skills of health workers; and improves the ability of district-level health management teams to plan, budget, manage, monitor, and evaluate the health services provided in their districts. The project also builds on the government's community-based health worker program by training volunteer health workers to provide health education and information to women and their households. The project is expected to provide quality health services to over 400,000 women and adolescent girls and to 5,800 newborns. CARE Canada implements the project in collaboration with CARE Tanzania. CARE Tanzania works with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and international and local non-governmental organizations to address gaps in health services at the community and district levels. This project is part of Canada's maternal, newborn and child health commitment. / L'objectif de ce projet est d'améliorer la santé des femmes et des filles, en particulier des mères, dans six districts de la région de Tabora. Il vise à réduire les obstacles qui empêchent les femmes des régions rurales d'avoir accès aux services de santé dont elles ont besoin, à fournir des services de santé de meilleure qualité pour les mères et les enfants dans les régions rurales et à accroitre les capacités des équipes de gestion de la santé communautaire à fournir des services de santé de qualité. Le projet permet d'accroitre la capacité des femmes à payer pour des services de santé, d'améliorer les connaissances et les compétences des travailleurs de la santé et de renforcer les capacités des équipes de gestion de la santé communautaire des districts à planifier, à budgéter, à gérer, à contrôler et à évaluer les services de santé fournis dans leurs districts. The project helps women of chi...ldbearing age maintain better health and helps to increase survival rates for children under five in Tanzania. It aims to improve the ability of Tanzania's health system to meet the needs of mothers and children. The project works to bring affordable and quality health services for women and children to front-line health facilities in under-served communities. This makes it easier for lower-income and poorer communities to use these services. The project also works to improve health, hygiene, and nutrition practices in local communities through health education programs within the communities and by working closely with local organizations and community leaders. Specific project activities include: strengthening patient referral systems, placing skilled birth attendants within Aga Khan Primary Medical Centres, training public and private health care workers and midwives, and providing basic equipment and supplies for the Primary Medical Centres. The project is expected to help approximately 700,000 people, including women of childbearing age, pregnant women, newborns, and children. Aga Khan Foundation Canada and the Aga Khan Health Services Tanzania work in partnership with the Tanzanian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and local governments to implement the project. This project is part of Canada's maternal, newborn, and child health commitment. / Le projet aide des femmes en âge de procréer à rester en meilleure santé et permet d'accroitre le taux de survie chez les enfants de moins de cinq ans en Tanzanie. The project aims to improve he...alth services for mothers, newborn babies, and young children in all five districts of the Simiyu region in Tanzania. The project is designed to strengthen existing health systems and to empower community members, especially women, to demand the health services they require, to make choices that support good health, and to get involved in managing local health care services. Specific activities include refurbishing and equipping health centres and district hospitals, providing training for local government officials to help them better manage and prioritize health services for mothers and children, and providing training for health workers with a focus on gender equality and public health issues. The project also supports community engagement activities that help local communities become more aware of issues relating to the health of women and children and to gender equality. The project provides community health workers with essential tools for treating women and children and training in home-based life-saving skills, birth planning, the treatment of childhood illnesses, and involving men in supporting the health of women and children in their community. This project is expected to directly help 108,000 pregnant women, 20,000 infants, and 114,000 children under five and indirectly help another 400,000 women and their families. The African Medical and Research Foundation is working in partnership with the Government of Tanzania, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and local government authorities to implement the project. This project aims to reduce th...e number of deaths among mothers, newborns, and young children by improving the health services available in four rural districts in Rukwa and Mwanza Regions. It supports Tanzania in achieving national targets for reducing child mortality and improving maternal health (Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5). The project is designed to provide women with greater access to good-quality, reliable health services. It helps to ensure that district health facilities offer essential health services for women and children; it provides training for health care workers in emergency care for pregnant women, new mothers, and newborn babies; and it strengthens the management and supervision practices in health care facilities. The project is also designed to improve the ability of men and women in these communities to recognize, prevent, and respond to maternal and child health issues. The project includes: organizing community events and mass media campaigns, training community theatre groups, and selecting peer youth educators and male champions to raise awareness about potential health issues; conducting home visits to provide pre-natal and post-natal care and care for newborns and young children; and equipping community health workers to provide services in remote areas and to refer patients to health centres where necessary. The project places special emphasis on the role that men can play in helping to improve the health of women and children. This project is expected to benefit 309,000 women of childbearing age and over 306,000 children under five. Plan International Canada and Plan International's office in Tanzania are working in partnership with Jhpiego and Africare to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to strengthen Tanzania's health systems and to implement its National Road Map Strategic Plan to Accelerate Reduction of Maternal, Newborn and Child Deaths in Tanzania. The project aims to improve ac...cess to quality health services for poor pregnant women and their newborns in Dar es Salaam and surrounding areas. There is currently a critical shortage in such services leading to unnecessary maternal and newborn deaths.The project focuses on (1) enhancing the skills of health management teams and health care providers in 22 public health facilities to provide quality gender-sensitive maternal and newborn services in emergency situations, (2) improving the standard operating procedures in these facilities, and (3) recruiting, staffing and training health care workers for a new specialized Maternity and Newborn Hospital in Dar es Salaam. The project benefits over 600 health care workers by improving their clinical skills, their work environment and the support and supervision they receive from health management teams. It also benefits more than 500,000 pregnant women and their newborns by improving the quality of care they receive.The partner organization, Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania, works with the Government of Tanzania's Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to implement this project.This project is part of Canada's maternal, newborn and child health commitment./ Le projet vise à améliorer l'accès aux services de santé de qualité pour les femmes enceintes pauvres et leurs nouveau-nés à Dar es Salaam et dans les régions avoisinantes. This project aims to help redu...ce illness and death among mothers and children by improving the delivery of comprehensive and integrated sexual and reproductive health services to poor, marginalized and high-risk communities. Providing access to sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, is critical to improving maternal and child health on a sustainable basis. Access to these services empowers women and girls, improves their life opportunities, and reduces maternal and infant mortality caused by the transmission of HIV and unplanned pregnancies. This project is in line with the priorities of the Muskoka Initiative relating to the health of mothers, newborns and children. / Ce projet vise à réduire les cas de maladie et le nombre des décès chez les mères et les enfants en améliorant la prestation de services de santé sexuelle et génésique complets et intégrés aux collectivités pauvres, marginalisées et à risque élevé. L'accès aux services de santé sexuelle et génésique, incluant la planification familiale, est essentiel pour une amélioration durable de la santé maternelle et infantile. L'accès à ces services rend les femmes et filles plus autonomes, améliore leurs perspectives de vie et réduit la mortalité maternelle et infantile causée par la transmission du VIH et les grossesses involontaires. Ce projet est conforme aux priorités établies par l'Initiative de Muskoka à l'égard de la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants.

This project aims to improve t...he health of people living in 251 rural villages in Mozambique, Tanzania and Burundi by increasing their access to primary health care and clean water, promoting good health habits, and improving the agricultural yield of smallholder farmers. Most illnesses and deaths in the project villages are due to preventable diseases, lack of access to trained health workers and lack of access to clean water and adequate food. The project therefore seeks to increase the number of community health workers, provide bicycle ambulances to remote villages, build or expand basic health infrastructure where most needed, and enhance access to clean water by refurbishing old wells and building new ones. The project also educates women, men and children on sexual reproductive health, proper nutrition and sanitation, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and gender issues, and trains both women and men farmers on best practices in sustainable agriculture. The project is implemented with local partners in each country: the Anglican Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi, EHALE in Mozambique, and the Anglican Diocese of Masasi in Tanzania. / Ce projet vise l'amélioration de la santé des populations de 194 villages ruraux au Mozambique, en Tanzanie et au Burundi en augmentant l'accès aux soins de santé primaire et à l'eau potable, en faisant la promotion de saines habitudes de vie et en améliorant le rendement agricole des petits exploitants. Le projet contribue à augmenter le nombre de travailleurs communautaires dans le secteur de la santé, à fournir des vélos-ambulances aux villages éloignés, à construire ou à agrandir des infrastructures de santé de base dans les collectivités qui en ont le plus besoin et à améliorer l'accès à l'eau potable en creusant ou en rénovant des puits. Le projet enseigne également aux femmes, aux hommes et aux enfants les principes de santé sexuelle et génésique, de nutrition et d'hygiène, de santé maternelle et infantile, de prévention du VIH/sida et d'égalité entre les femmes et les hommes. Une formation sur les meilleures pratiques en matière d'agriculture durable est également donnée aux agriculteurs et agricultrices.

This project aims to give the ...most vulnerable women and children in Arusha district in Northern Tanzania, particularly in households headed by children or grandmothers, access to better maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) services. It seeks to establish family-centred care, by providing these services along with socio-economic support. It aims to help 3,000 women access newborn and child programs and services, by increasing the capacity and the number of service providers and local partners trained in evidence-based MNCH approaches. The project also provides socio-economic support, such as water purification, solar food drying, community gardening, and an alternative payment system, which all contribute to increasing women's empowerment and engagement./ Ce projet vise à offrir aux femmes et aux enfants les plus vulnérables du district d'Arusha (dans le Nord de la Tanzanie), et particulièrement aux ménages dirigés par un enfant ou une grand-mère, un meilleur accès aux services de santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants (SMNE). Il vise à établir des centres de soins à la famille en combinant ces services à un soutien socio-économique. Le projet facilite l'accès de 3 000 femmes à des programmes et à des services pour les nouveau-nés et les enfants en renforçant les capacités et en augmentant le nombre de prestataires de services et des partenaires ayant reçu une formation sur les approches fondées sur des données probantes. Le projet apporte aussi un appui socioéconomique (purification de l'eau, séchage des aliments au soleil, potagers communautaires, système de paiement alternatif) qui se traduit par la participation et l'émancipation accrues des femmes.

It also seeks to highlight Canada s contributions to various major projects in Kandahar, in particular the rehabilitation of the Arghandab irrigation system and the construction of laboratories at Kandahar University. The Aga Khan Development Netwo...rk's Health Action Plan for Afghanistan (HAPA) is a five-year, multi-donor initiative that aims to improve the health status of the population in selected provinces of Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Bamyan, and Baghlan), with a focus on women of reproductive age and children under five. HAPA works at the national level with health education and training institutions and the Ministry of Public Health. Global Affairs Canada is supporting this initiative in collaboration with Agence Française de développement (AFD). Project activities include: (1) improving the quality and expanding the range of health services in remote and rural areas; (2) strengthening availability and quality of health human resources; and (3) improving health practices among rural population, especially in the area of nutrition. HAPA aims to directly benefit 1,264,022 people, including 495,598 women, 525,732 men, 123,773 girls and 118,919 boys (below five years of age). / Le Plan d'action pour le secteur de la santé en 'Afghanistan (HAPA) du réseau Aga Khan de développement, est une initiative multi bailleurs de cinq ans qui vise à améliorer l'état de santé de la population dans certaines provinces de l'Afghanistan (Badakhshan, Bamyan et Baghlan), en mettant l'accent sur les femmes en âge de procréer et les enfants de moins de cinq ans. HAPA travaillera également au niveau national avec des établissements d'éducation et de formation dans le milieu de la santé et avec le Ministère de la Santé Publique. The Innovating for Maternal an...d Child Health in Africa program aims to assist targeted developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa improve maternal, newborn, and child health. This project will provide the funding to develop and manage the program.About the programThe program is part of the Global Health Research Initiative, a collaboration between Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and IDRC. It represents a joint investment of $36 million over seven years to target maternal and child health in nine countries: Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, South Sudan, and Tanzania.Better health policy and researchThese funds will support two health policy and research organizations. They will also be used to fund 20 implementation research teams. The teams will conduct research to strengthen equitable health systems to improve maternal, newborn, and child health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. The health policy and research organizations will act as knowledge brokers, directly linking the implementation research teams' research to national and regional policy-making.Better results for maternal, newborn, and child healthThe research program's objectives include:-address critical knowledge gaps in research, policy, and practice around primary healthcare delivery to mothers and children in targeted countries of sub-Saharan Africa;-generate knowledge and tangible solutions that can be scaled up to achieve better health outcomes and improved health equity for women and children;-strengthen the relevance and timeliness of maternal and newborn child health research and the uptake of results into policy and practice; and-build successful sub-Saharan African/Canadian research collaborations that are equitable, mutually beneficial, and that strengthen institutional and individual capacity for implementing and using research.

Strengthening health service delivery includes placing a priority on: -increasing access to services-improving quality of care-ensuring good continuity of care for mothers and children-addressing financial and geographic challenges associated with seasonal malariaFrom pregnancy to birthIn both countries, researchers will assess the role of four interventions on maternal and child morbidity and mortality.In Mali, the project will evaluate the expansion of village health solidarity units, known as Caisses villageoises de solidarite¿-sante¿. The health units address financial and geographic inequities that women face when accessing care. The project team will implement and assess emergency obstetric and neonatal care services protocols at community health centres. They will also create an audit cycle of maternal and neonatal deaths. In Burkina Faso, researchers will test the use of mobile phone applications in extending information and services to expectant mothers. They will monitor the mother and child through a mobile technology for community health initiative used by site staff in the villages to facilitate communication with the health centres. Their work will also inform the rollout of a large-scale chemoprevention program to address seasonal malaria.This project is part of the Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa initiative, a seven-year CA$36 million partnership funded by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and IDRC.

The ultimate outcome of this p...roposal is to improve the health and rights of women, adolescent girls, and children in situations of vulnerability in 11 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).The project addresses gaps in health services for vulnerable populations, such as women, indigenous and afro-descendant populations, and people living in remote areas. To that end, the project focuses on three components: (1) strengthening health systems; (2) reducing the burden of leading diseases, and; (3) improving nutrition.The project will (i) facilitate a better usage of essential health services; (ii) enhancing management by national health authorities of leading diseases; (iii) improve nutritional practices in targeted populations./ Le résultat ultime de ce projet est l'amélioration de la santé et des droits des femmes, des adolescentes, et des enfants en situation de vulnérabilité dans 11 pays de l'Amérique latine et des Antilles (ALA). Ces pays sont les suivants : Bolivie, Colombie, Équateur, Guatémala, Guyane, Haïti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Pérou et Suriname.Le projet s'attaque aux carences dans la prestance des services de santé aux populations vulnérables telles que les femmes, les groupes autochtones et des descendances afro-antillaise, ainsi que les personnes vivant en régions éloignés. Pour cela, le projet va travailler sur trois composantes : (1) renforcement des systèmes de santé; (2) réduction du fardeau des principales maladies, et ; (3) amélioration de la nutrition.Le projet va contribuer à (i) faciliter une meilleure utilisation des soins de santé de bases ; (ii) renforcer la gestion par les autorités locales des principales maladies ; (iii) améliorer les habitudes alimentaires chez les populations cibles.

This project aims to support t...he Global Financing Facility (GFF), a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led, sustainable financing to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths. The GFF finances national reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) plans, supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCH, finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems, finances the development and deployment of global public goods, and contributes to a coordinated financing for RMNCH.Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCH priorities of the recipient government, but may include: (1) Clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women, newborns and children, (2) Health systems interventions such as strengthening health information systems, increasing access to medical products/technologies, and health systems strengthening; (3) Multi-sectoral interventions such as education, nutrition, and water and sanitation, in addition to strengthening CRVS systems.The GFF supports countries in developing individual RMNCH investment cases to align various sources of financing to national RMNCH priorities. The GFF leverages additional financing for RMNCH by matching grant funding from the GFF Trust Fund to financing from the International Development Association (IDA) and the International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). GFF country selection is prioritized on the basis of criteria that includes available resources, need, population and income, eligibility for IDA/IBRD loans and the ability to achieve results./ Ce projet vise à appuyer le Mécanisme de financement mondial (MFM), une plateforme de financement multidonateurs qui fournit des fonds durables gérés par le pays pour mettre fin aux décès évitables de mères, de nouveau-nés et d'enfants.
