March 2014 - Unrest and confli...ct in the north of Mali have displaced 472,000 people, including 171,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence. Fighting, banditry and land-mine contamination restrict the access for relief agencies to only some areas, where basic services such as medical care and water and sanitation services are gradually resuming. Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including protection, shelter, food, nutrition and livelihoods assistance, as well as access to clean water, health and sanitation services. With DFATD s support and that of other donors, UNHCR is providing protection and assistance to 145,000 Malian refugees in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger. Activities include: (1) providing protection to refugees; (2) providing basic health services, education assistance, and shelter support; (3) helping refugees to gain asylum or find other durable solutions to their situations; and (4) providing income-generating activities. / Mars 2014 - Les troubles et le conflit qui touchent le Nord du Mali ont entraîné le déplacement de 472 000 personnes, dont 171 000 qui ont dû fuir vers des pays voisins pour échapper à la violence. Les combats, le pillage et les mines terrestres restreignent l accès des organisations de secours à quelques régions seulement, où les services de base tels que les soins médicaux, l approvisionnement en eau et l assainissement reprennent peu à peu. Les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l intérieur du pays et les collectivités d accueil ont besoin d une aide humanitaire immédiate, dont une protection, des abris, des vivres, des mesures nutritionnelles, une aide au rétablissement des moyens de subsistance, un accès à des services d approvisionnement en eau potable et d assainissement et des soins de santé. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) fournit une protection et une aide à 145 000 réfugiés maliens au Burkina Faso, en Mauritanie et au Niger. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) protéger les réfugiés; 2) offrir des services de santé de base, une aide en matière d éducation et des abris; 3) aider les réfugiés à trouver un asile ou une autre solution durable à leur situation; 4) assurer des activités génératrices de revenus.

March 2014 - Despite several p...ositive political developments in Burma, the country continues to experience a challenging humanitarian situation, due to frequent natural disasters as well as decades of low-intensity conflict between the Burmese army and the minority ethnic independence movements. More than 630,000 people are internally displaced, having been forced to move away from their homes due to conflict, and more than 415,000 Burmese refugees are living in neighbouring countries. Continued clashes between government troops and armed groups have displaced approximately 93,000 people in Kachin state and increased their vulnerability. With DFATD s support, Hope International Development Agency is helping up to 26,000 people in the conflict-affected areas of Kachin State. Activities include: (1) constructing and repairing shelters for 3,246 displaced people; (2) providing training for health volunteers, health awareness and psycho-social care for 26,000 displaced people; (3) providing short-term training to increase the skills and income-generating opportunities of 8,100 displaced people; and (4) providing temporary learning spaces for 4,779 displaced children. / Mars 2014 - Malgré plusieurs développements politiques positifs, la situation humanitaire demeure difficile en Birmanie, en raison des catastrophes naturelles fréquentes et du conflit de faible intensité qui perdure depuis des décennies entre l armée birmane et les mouvements d indépendance de groupes ethniques minoritaires. Plus de 630 000 personnes ont dû se déplacer à l intérieur du pays et s éloigner de leur foyer en raison du conflit et plus de 415 000 réfugiés birmans vivent dans les pays avoisinants. Les affrontements permanents entre les forces gouvernementales et les groupes armés ont provoqué le déplacement d environ 93 000 personnes dans l État du Kachin, en plus d accroître la vulnérabilité de ces dernières. Avec le soutien du MAECD, l organisation HOPE International Development Agency vient en aide à quelque 26 000 personnes dans les zones touchées par le conflit de l État du Kachin. Parmi les activités de ce projet : 1) construire et remettre en état des abris pour loger 3 246 personnes; 2) offrir une formation à des volontaires du domaine de la santé ainsi que des services de sensibilisation à la santé et des soins psychosociaux à 26 000 personnes déplacées; 3) offrir une formation accélérée pour accroître les compétences de 8 100 personnes déplacées et les possibilités de production de revenus de ces dernières; 4) aménager des locaux temporaires d apprentissage pouvant accueillir 4 779 enfants déplacés.

March 2014 - In the state of R...akhine, over one million peopleâ€'more than 140,000 of whom are living in temporary or make-shift sheltersâ€'are still suffering the consequences of inter-community violence that erupted in 2012. In addition to the on-going fear and mistrust between communities, some of the challenges facing the internally displaced people and the host communities include: lack of trained medical staff, high malnutrition rates, increased risk of water-borne diseases, and obstructed freedom of movement. Members of the Muslim Rohingya community are particularly vulnerable. With DFATD s support, Doctors without Borders Canada is improving the health of up to 180,000 vulnerable people in northern Rakhine. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency primary health care including treatment of malnutrition and mental health, and diagnosis and treatment of HIV and malaria; and (2) providing specialized referrals to secondary and tertiary state health facilities. / Mars 2014 - Dans l État de Rakhine, plus d un million de personnes - dont plus de 140 000 vivent dans des abris temporaires ou de fortune - subissent toujours les conséquences des violences intercommunautaires qui ont éclaté en 2012. En plus de la peur constante et du manque de confiance qui caractérise les relations entre les collectivités, les défis auxquels les personnes déplacées à l intérieur de leur pays et les communautés d accueil doivent faire face comprennent le manque de personnel médical formé, le taux élevé de malnutrition, les risques accrus de contracter des maladies d origine hydrique et la restriction de la liberté de mouvement. Les membres de la communauté musulmane Rohingya sont particulièrement vulnérables. Avec le soutien du MAECD, Médecins sans frontières Canada contribue à améliorer la santé d un maximum de 180 000 personnes vulnérables dans le Nord de l État de Rakhine. Parmi les activités de ce projet : 1) offrir des soins de santé d urgence primaires, dont le traitement de la malnutrition et de la santé mentale et le diagnostic et le traitement du VIH et du paludisme; 2) offrir des services d aiguillage spécialisés vers des établissements de santé secondaires et tertiaires appartenant à l État.

With DFATD s support, Save the Children Canada is increasing access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities, improving maternal health, and improving the nutrition of displaced children under-five years old in Rakhine. Project activities include: (1) providing safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene kits to 10,173 conflict-affected people; (2) providing antenatal care to pregnant women, training traditional birth attendants, and clean delivery kits as well as newborn kits to mothers, benefitting 12,000 conflict-affected people; and (3) providing screening and treatment of cases of severe acute malnutrition for 19,545 conflict-affected children under-five years old in targeted areas. / Mars 2014 - Dans l État de Rakhine, plus d un million de personnes - dont plus de 140 000 vivent dans des abris temporaires ou de fortune - subissent toujours les conséquences des violences intercommunautaires qui ont éclaté en 2012. Avec le soutien du MAECD, Aide à l enfance Canada contribue à accroître l accès à l eau potable et aux installations sanitaires, à améliorer la santé maternelle et à améliorer l alimentation des enfants déplacés de moins de cinq ans à Rakhine. Parmi les activités de ce projet : 1) offrir de l eau potable, des installations sanitaires et des trousses d hygiène à 10 173 personnes touchées par le conflit; 2) offrir des soins prénatals à des femmes enceintes, une formation à des accoucheuses traditionnelles et des trousses d accouchements propres et des trousses pour les nouveau-nés à des mères, au profit de 12 000 personnes touchées par le conflit; 3) offrir des services de dépistage et de traitement des cas de malnutrition aiguë sévère à 19 545 enfants touchés par le conflit et âgés de moins de cinq ans dans des régions ciblées.

This project supports UNICEF s... efforts during humanitarian emergencies, including providing: commodities to treat severe acute malnutrition; safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene programming; emergency education; basic healthcare; and protection services for children and women. With DFATD s support, UNICEF s 2014 emergency operations in these countries will protect and assist an estimated 29 million people affected by conflict, food insecurity and political instability. / Ce projet appuie les activités de l UNICEF dans les situations d urgence humanitaire, telles que : la fourniture de produits de base pour traiter la malnutrition aiguë sévère; l approvisionnement en eau potable, des installations sanitaires et la mise en oeuvre de programmes d hygiène; la prestation de services d éducation en situation d urgence, de soins de santé de base et de services de protection pour les enfants et les femmes. Avec le soutien du MAECD, les opérations d urgence de l UNICEF en 2014 dans ces pays permettront d aider et de protéger environ 29 millions de personnes touchées par les conflits, l insécurité alimentaire et l instabilité politique.

March 2014 - The World Food Pr...ogramme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. With the support of DFATD and other donors, WFP is providing emergency food assistance to approximately 16 million vulnerable people in several countries in Asia in 2014. In humanitarian emergencies, WFP focuses on providing food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity, and to protect livelihoods. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) providing supplementary feeding for children under 5, pregnant and breastfeeding women; (3) providing food for work ; (4) providing vouchers and cash transfers for food; (5) helping communities manage acute malnutrition; and (6) supporting school feeding programs. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des aliments aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le PAM fournit une assistance alimentaire d urgence à quelque 16 millions de personnes vulnérables dans plusieurs pays d Asie en 2014. En cas de situation d urgence humanitaire, le PAM s attache principalement à offrir de l assistance alimentaire pour réduire la malnutrition aiguë et l insécurité alimentaire et protéger les moyens de subsistance. March 2014 - Unrest and confli...ct in the north of Mali have displaced 472,000 people, including 171,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence. Fighting, banditry and land-mine contamination restrict the access for relief agencies to only some areas, where basic services such as medical care and water and sanitation services are gradually resuming. Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including protection, shelter, food, nutrition and livelihoods assistance, as well as access to clean water, health and sanitation services. With DFATD s support and that of other donors, UNHCR is providing protection and assistance to 145,000 Malian refugees in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger. Activities include: (1) providing protection to refugees; (2) providing basic health services, education assistance, and shelter support; (3) helping refugees to gain asylum or find other durable solutions to their situations; and (4) providing income-generating activities. / Mars 2014 - Les troubles et le conflit qui touchent le Nord du Mali ont entraîné le déplacement de 472 000 personnes, dont 171 000 qui ont dû fuir vers des pays voisins pour échapper à la violence. Les combats, le pillage et les mines terrestres restreignent l accès des organisations de secours à quelques régions seulement, où les services de base tels que les soins médicaux, l approvisionnement en eau et l assainissement reprennent peu à peu. Les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l intérieur du pays et les collectivités d accueil ont besoin d une aide humanitaire immédiate, dont une protection, des abris, des vivres, des mesures nutritionnelles, une aide au rétablissement des moyens de subsistance, un accès à des services d approvisionnement en eau potable et d assainissement et des soins de santé. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) fournit une protection et une aide à 145 000 réfugiés maliens au Burkina Faso, en Mauritanie et au Niger. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) protéger les réfugiés; 2) offrir des services de santé de base, une aide en matière d éducation et des abris; 3) aider les réfugiés à trouver un asile ou une autre solution durable à leur situation; 4) assurer des activités génératrices de revenus.

February 2014 - Nearly one mil...lion people in Pakistan are still internally displaced as a result of natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes, as well as ongoing security operations in the north west regions. They have limited access to water, sanitation and hygiene facilities. With DFATD s support, this project is helping to provide emergency health services and income support to 35,090 internally displaced persons in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkwha. Project activities include: (1) deploying mobile medical teams to assist 22,680 people; (2) creating 20 women-friendly spaces for 2,400 vulnerable women; and (3) providing conditional cash grants to 1,430 vulnerable households to pay for rent, food, access to basic services and prepare their return home. / Février 2014 - Près d un million de personnes sont toujours déplacées au Pakistan en raison de catastrophes naturelles, comme des inondations et des tremblements de terre, et d opérations de sécurité dans les régions du Nord-Ouest. L accès à de l eau potable, à des services d assainissement ou à des installations d hygiène demeure difficile pour ces populations. Avec le soutien du MAECD, ce projet aide à fournir des services sanitaires d urgence et des moyens de subsistance à 35 090 personnes déplacées dans la province de Khyber Pakhtunkwha. March 2014 - The World Food Pr...ogramme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. With the support of DFATD and other donors, WFP is providing emergency food assistance to approximately 16 million vulnerable people in several countries in Asia in 2014. In humanitarian emergencies, WFP focuses on providing food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity, and to protect livelihoods. Project activities include: (1) distributing food; (2) providing supplementary feeding for children under 5, pregnant and breastfeeding women; (3) providing food for work ; (4) providing vouchers and cash transfers for food; (5) helping communities manage acute malnutrition; and (6) supporting school feeding programs. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des aliments aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le PAM fournit une assistance alimentaire d urgence à quelque 16 millions de personnes vulnérables dans plusieurs pays d Asie en 2014. En cas de situation d urgence humanitaire, le PAM s attache principalement à offrir de l assistance alimentaire pour réduire la malnutrition aiguë et l insécurité alimentaire et protéger les moyens de subsistance. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) distribuer des aliments; 2) fournir des services d alimentation complémentaire aux enfants de moins de cinq ans, aux femmes enceintes et à celles qui allaitent; 3) offrir des programmes « vivres contre travail »; 4) distribuer des bons d alimentation et faire des transferts de fonds visant l achat d aliments; 5) aider les collectivités à gérer la malnutrition aiguë; 6) soutenir les programmes d alimentation scolaire.

February 2014 - On November 8,... 2013, Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) made landfall in the Philippines, a densely populated country of 92 million people. The category five typhoon killed over 6,000 Filipinos, caused 4 million people to be displaced from their homes, and caused severe damage to infrastructure, including homes, roads, schools and health centres. Although many people have already received life-saving humanitarian assistance, significant humanitarian needs remain, including early recovery activities that contribute to building communities that are more resilient. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is helping up to 500,000 people affected by Typhoon Haiyan by providing safe drinking water, improving sanitation, or the proper treatment and disposal of waste water, rehabilitating shelters, and restoring people s livelihoods to make sure they are able to meet their basic needs. Project activities include: (1) providing essential household items, such as clothing; (2) providing materials and cash assistance to help people repair and rebuild their shelters and settle in new areas; (3) providing safe water, proper sanitation and hand washing facilities; (4) promoting the importance of proper hygiene to prevent disease outbreaks; (5) providing material support to help people seek out livelihoods opportunities in small business, agricultural production and construction trades; (6) providing basic health services by setting up an emergency hospital and mobile clinics and by supporting rural health clinics; and (7) providing training to the Philippine Red Cross such as disaster management and search and rescue. / Février 2014 - Le 8 novembre 2013, le typhon Haiyan (appelé « Yolanda » aux Philippines) a frappé les Philippines, un pays densément peuplé qui compte 92 millions d habitants. Le typhon de catégorie 5 a tué plus de 6 000 Philippins et causé de lourds dommages aux infrastructures, dont des maisons, des routes, des écoles et des centres de soins de santé. Quatre millions de personnes ont été déplacées de leur domicile. Même si de nombreuses personnes ont déjà reçu une assistance humanitaire vitale, les besoins humanitaires sont encore grands, entre autres la mise en oeuvre d activités de redressement hâtif qui contribuent à bâtir des collectivités plus résilientes. This project supports UNICEF s... efforts during humanitarian emergencies, including providing: commodities to treat severe acute malnutrition; safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene programming; emergency education; basic healthcare; and protection services for children and women. With DFATD s support, UNICEF s 2014 emergency operations in these countries will protect and assist an estimated 29 million people affected by conflict, food insecurity and political instability. / Ce projet appuie les activités de l UNICEF dans les situations d urgence humanitaire, telles que : la fourniture de produits de base pour traiter la malnutrition aiguë sévère; l approvisionnement en eau potable, des installations sanitaires et la mise en oeuvre de programmes d hygiène; la prestation de services d éducation en situation d urgence, de soins de santé de base et de services de protection pour les enfants et les femmes. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is helping up to 3.7 million women and girls of childbearing-age affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The project provides reproductive health services and works to prevent and manage sexual and gender-based violence. February 2014 - On November 8,... 2013, Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Yolanda) made landfall in the Philippines, a densely populated country of 92 million people. The category five typhoon killed over 6,000 Filipinos, caused 4 million people to be displaced from their homes, and caused severe damage to infrastructure, including homes, roads, schools and health centres. Although many people have already received life-saving humanitarian assistance, significant humanitarian needs remain, including early recovery activities that contribute to building communities that are more resilient. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is helping up to 2.2 million people affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. This project assists displaced people in evacuation centres and temporary settlements, as well as those who have returned or are planning to return to their places of origin. Project activities include: (1) providing displaced people with essential referrals to humanitarian assistance organizations helping people with food assistance, health, and livelihoods opportunities; (2) providing technical assistance to the government authorities on the management of evacuation centres and displacement tracking tools that help provide a clear understanding of the changing location, vulnerabilities and needs of typhoon-affected people; (3) providing emergency kits to help people rebuild their shelters; (4) providing essential household items; (5) providing emergency medical supplies, medicines, generators; (6) providing additional health workers for health facilities assisting displaced people; and (7) providing anti-trafficking and sexual and gender-based violence training to government authorities and service providers working at evacuation sites or transit sites (such as ports, airports, bus stations) who may come in contact with populations at risk of being trafficked. / Février 2014 - Le 8 novembre 2013, le typhon Haiyan (appelé « Yolanda » aux Philippines) a frappé les Philippines, un pays densément peuplé qui compte 92 millions d habitants. The project aims to provide safe drinking water, improve sanitation, provide nutrition and health services, protect children from violence and abuse, and provide education. With DFATD s support, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) is helping up to seven million people affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines by providing emergency health assistance. February 2014 - Severe rains a...nd high winds hit the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica in December 2013. The Government of Saint Vincent reported severe damage to health facilities, schools and early childhood centres, infrastructure, housing, water and sanitation systems, roads and bridges in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In Saint Lucia, roads and bridges were damaged or destroyed, water supply was cut off, and health facilities and schools were badly affected. Roads and houses were also damaged in the southern part of Dominica. With DFATD support, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is addressing the urgent medical needs of disaster-affected people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica. Project activities include: (1) re-establishing health services and emergency medical care in disaster-affected areas; (2) providing clean water, sanitation or the proper treatment and disposal of waste water, and distributing hygiene supplies, such as soap and toothbrushes, to disaster-affected people; and (3) implementing disease surveillance and vector control activities (such as removing stagnant water where mosquitoes breed) to prevent the outbreak and spread of infectious diseases.

March 2014 - Conflict, insecur...ity, and drought have left 3 million people in Somalia (up to 40% of the population) in need of humanitarian assistance in 2014. Nearly 900,000 people face acute hunger and 1 million remain displaced from their homes. Child malnutrition rates in the country are among the worst in the world and access to medical care is extremely limited With DFATD s support, Save the Children Canada is helping to meet the humanitarian needs of up to 137,000 Somalis displaced by conflict and drought. Project activities include: (1) supporting four community health centres through the provision of training, drugs, and equipment; (2) supporting two outpatient feeding centres for the treatment of malnutrition; (3) maintaining two boreholes and 1,350 latrines (serving some 50,000 displaced people); and (4) training 30 community health workers and 40 community nutrition workers to provide outreach services and disseminate knowledge of proper health, hygiene, and nutrition practices. / Mars 2014 - Le conflit, l insécurité et la sécheresse ont fait que trois millions de personnes en Somalie (c est-à-dire jusqu à 40 p. 100 de la population) ont besoin d une aide humanitaire en 2014. March 2014 - According to the ...United Nations, 3 million people in Somalia (between 35-40% of the population) will require some form of international humanitarian assistance in 2014. Conflict, insecurity, and drought have left more than 1 million Somalis internally displaced within the country and a further 1 million living in neighbouring countries as refugees. Planned efforts to return either of these groups to their homes, while providing access to food, shelter, and safe water and sanitation, will require significant international support. Malnutrition rates, particularly among children, remain some of the highest in the world, well above the emergency threshold of 15%, and the decision, in August 2013, of MSF to cease operations in Somalia has severely limited access to proper medical care for already extremely vulnerable populations. With support from DFATD, World Vision Canada is helping to meet the needs of Somalis affected by conflict and drought in the Gedo region in south-western Somalia. Specific activities include the operation of mobile health clinics, the establishment or rehabilitation of water points, the provision of agricultural inputs to support livelihoods, and the operation of youth centres to promote child protection. / Mars 2014 - Selon les Nations Unies, 3 millions de personnes en Somalie (entre 35 à 40 % de la population) auront besoin d'une certaine forme d'aide humanitaire internationale en 2014. Les conflits, l'insécurité et la sècheresse ont laissé plus de 1 million de Somaliens déplacés à l'intérieur du pays et un autre 1 million vivant dans les pays voisins en tant que réfugiés. Les efforts prévus pour faire revenir un ou plusieurs de ces groupes dans leur foyer, tout en leur donnant accès à de la nourriture, des abris et de l'eau potable et à l'assainissement, nécessiteront un important soutien à l'échelle internationale. Les taux de malnutrition, en particulier chez les enfants, demeurent parmi les plus élevés dans le monde, bien au-dessus du seuil d'urgence de 15 %, et la décision prise en aout 2013, que MSF cesse ses opérations en Somalie a gravement limité l'accès aux soins médicaux appropriés pour les populations déjà extrêmement vulnérables. Grâce au soutien d'AMC, Vision mondiale Canada contribue à répondre aux besoins des Somaliens touchés par les conflits et la sècheresse dans la région de Gedo, dans le sud-ouest de la Somalie. This project supports UNICEF s... efforts during humanitarian emergencies, including providing: commodities to treat severe acute malnutrition; safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene programming; emergency education; basic healthcare; and protection services for children and women. With DFATD s support, UNICEF s 2014 emergency operations in these countries will protect and assist an estimated 29 million people affected by conflict, food insecurity and political instability. / Ce projet appuie les activités de l UNICEF dans les situations d urgence humanitaire, telles que : la fourniture de produits de base pour traiter la malnutrition aiguë sévère; l approvisionnement en eau potable, des installations sanitaires et la mise en oeuvre de programmes d hygiène; la prestation de services d éducation en situation d urgence, de soins de santé de base et de services de protection pour les enfants et les femmes. March 2014 - The World Food Pr...ogramme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the World Food Programme s Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. The Canadian Humanitarian Assi...stance Fund (CHAF), managed by the Humanitarian Coalition (HC), supports timely and reliable humanitarian assistance to those affected by small-scale, rapid-onset disasters in developing countries. Through the CHAF, funds are allocated to the Humanitarian Coalition member best placed to respond to a particular emergency. The Humanitarian Coalition is made up of five Canadian non-governmental organizations: CARE Canada, OXFAM Canada, OXFAM-Québec, Plan Canada and Save the Children Canada. With DFATD s support, the CHAF is: (1) promoting early actions and responses to reduce loss of life; (2) improving the speed of emergency responses; and (3) supporting live-saving activities such as health care, protection services, shelter, as well as water, sanitation and hygiene services.

The project aims to save lives..., reduce suffering, and maintain human dignity in communities experiencing emergency health crises by ensuring the delivery of timely, effective health services. The project supports the Canadian Red Cross Society and the broader International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (RCM) to prevent and reduce deaths during humanitarian crises, and to support local health systems to return to pre-emergency states of operation. As part of the First Responder Initiative, the Canadian Red Cross Society developed two emergency field hospitals to assist emergency operations lead by the RCM. This project builds on this initiative by improving the flexibility of the field hospitals. This is achieved by creating stand-alone medical units that can be deployed one at a time in response to smaller emergencies, or together as a full field hospital for larger emergencies. The project also aims to strengthen the regional health response capacity of the RCM, with a particular focus on the Americas. The project assists the America's RCM regional office in creating mobile regional medical units, which are scaled-down versions of larger Red Cross emergency field hospitals. These regional medical units are designed to meet the specific health needs of populations in the region during small- to medium-scale emergencies. The project also supports the development of new research, resources, and training curricula related to improving emergency health responses. This project falls under the larger DFATD - Canadian Red Cross Strategic Partnership to Enhance Canada's Humanitarian Assistance. / Ce projet a pour but de sauver des vies, de réduire la souffrance et de préserver la dignité humaine dans les collectivités qui affrontent une crise sanitaire, en offrant en temps utile des services de santé efficaces. Ce projet soutient la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge et le Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge dans son ensemble pour prévenir les décès lors des crises humanitaires et en limiter le nombre, ainsi que pour aider les systèmes de santé locaux à revenir à la normale. Dans le cadre de l'Initiative du premier intervenant, la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge a mis sur pied deux hôpitaux de campagne dans le but d'appuyer les opérations de secours dirigées par le Mouvement. Ce projet élargit la portée de l'Initiative du premier intervenant en améliorant la souplesse de fonctionnement de ces hôpitaux. Il a pour but de créer des unités de soins médicaux autonomes qui peuvent être déployées une à la fois pour répondre à une situation d'urgence de petite envergure ou ensemble pour former un hôpital de campagne complet dans le cas de situations d'urgence de grande envergure. March 2014 - Unrest and confli...ct in the north of Mali have displaced 472,000 people, including 171,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence. Fighting, banditry and landmine contamination restrict the access for relief agencies to only some areas, where basic services such as medical care and water and sanitation services are gradually resuming. Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including protection, shelter, food, nutrition and livelihoods assistance, as well as access to clean water, health and sanitation services. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the World Food Programme is providing food assistance to approximately 184,000 Malian refugees and vulnerable people from host communities in Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger. Project activities include: (1) distributing food, cash and vouchers to exchange for food; (2) providing supplementary feeding to prevent acute malnutrition among children under 2 years of age; (3) providing supplementary feeding to treat moderate acute malnutrition among children under 5 years of age, and pregnant and breastfeeding women; and (4) supporting emergency school feeding programs. / Mars 2014 - Les troubles et le conflit qui touchent le Nord du Mali ont entraîné le déplacement de 472 000 personnes, dont 171 000 qui ont dû fuir vers des pays voisins pour échapper à la violence. Les combats, le pillage et les terres contaminées par des mines terrestres restreignent l accès des organisations d aide à quelques régions seulement, où les services de base tels que les soins médicaux et les services d approvisionnement en eau et d assainissement reprennent peu à peu. Les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l intérieur de leur pays et les collectivités d accueil ont besoin d une aide humanitaire immédiate, ce qui comprend de la protection, des abris, des vivres, des services de nutrition et de l aide au rétablissement des moyens de subsistance, un accès à des services d approvisionnement en eau potable et d assainissement et des soins de santé. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le Programme alimentaire mondial fournit une aide alimentaire à environ 184 000 réfugiés maliens et membres vulnérables des collectivités d accueil au Burkina Faso, en Mauritanie et au Niger. Parmi les activités du projet : (1) distribuer des denrées alimentaires, des espèces et des bons d achat pour se procurer des aliments; (2) fournir une alimentation complémentaire pour prévenir ou soigner la malnutrition aigüe chez les enfants de moins de deux ans; (3) fournir une alimentation complémentaire pour traiter les cas de malnutrition aiguë et modérée parmi les enfants de moins de cinq ans, ainsi que les femmes enceintes et celles qui allaitent; (4) soutenir les programmes d alimentation scolaire d urgence.
