The ICRC provides these affected people with assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With DFATD s support, ICRC s emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support, and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. This funding supports specific country emergency appeals. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission de protéger la vie et la dignité des victimes de conflits armés et de violence interne. This project supports UNICEF s... efforts during humanitarian emergencies, including providing: commodities to treat severe acute malnutrition; safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene programming; emergency education; basic healthcare; and protection services for children and women. With DFATD s support, UNICEF s 2014 emergency operations in these countries will protect and assist an estimated 29 million people affected by conflict, food insecurity and political instability. / Ce projet appuie les activités de l UNICEF dans les situations d urgence humanitaire, telles que : la fourniture de produits de base pour traiter la malnutrition aiguë sévère; l approvisionnement en eau potable, des installations sanitaires et la mise en oeuvre de programmes d hygiène; la prestation de services d éducation en situation d urgence, de soins de santé de base et de services de protection pour les enfants et les femmes. Avec le soutien du MAECD, les opérations d urgence de l UNICEF en 2014 dans ces pays permettront d aider et de protéger environ 29 millions de personnes touchées par les conflits, l insécurité alimentaire et l instabilité politique.

March 2014 - The World Food Pr...ogramme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the World Food Programme s Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le Service aérien d aide humanitaire du Programme alimentaire mondial assure le transport aérien sécuritaire, fiable, souple et efficient du personnel humanitaire dans de nombreux pays. Il assure le transport de travailleurs humanitaires et de marchandises légères pour les organismes humanitaires, et assure des services d évacuation pour des raisons médicales et de sécurité.

February 2014 - Severe rains a...nd high winds hit the islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica in December 2013. The Government of Saint Vincent reported severe damage to health facilities, schools and early childhood centres, infrastructure, housing, water and sanitation systems, roads and bridges in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In Saint Lucia, roads and bridges were damaged or destroyed, water supply was cut off, and health facilities and schools were badly affected. Roads and houses were also damaged in the southern part of Dominica. With DFATD support, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is addressing the urgent medical needs of disaster-affected people in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia and Dominica. Project activities include: (1) re-establishing health services and emergency medical care in disaster-affected areas; (2) providing clean water, sanitation or the proper treatment and disposal of waste water, and distributing hygiene supplies, such as soap and toothbrushes, to disaster-affected people; and (3) implementing disease surveillance and vector control activities (such as removing stagnant water where mosquitoes breed) to prevent the outbreak and spread of infectious diseases.

March 2014 - Eritrea is facing... a serious and deteriorating humanitarian situation, as a result of recurring drought and the exodus of an increasing number of able-bodied young men facing the prospect of a potential lifetime of mandatory military service. Based on reports from the few humanitarian agencies able to operate in the country, the remaining population faces high levels of food insecurity and acute malnutrition. With DFATD s support, Development and Peace is helping to meet the needs of vulnerable food insecure households in Eritrea. Project activities include: (1) providing cash to 2,050 households; (2) distributing food to 1,000 remote rural households; (3) distributing seeds to grow vegetable gardens for 800 households; (4) distributing livestock and poultry to 820 households; (5) providing training in health and nutrition to 5,000 primary caregivers; and (6) identifying cases of acute malnutrition through monthly nutrition screenings and referring them to local hospitals or health centres. / Mars 2014 - La situation humanitaire de l Érythrée, déjà grave, se dégrade à cause des sécheresses répétées et de l exode d un nombre croissant de jeunes hommes valides qui craignent d être conscrits à vie dans les forces armées. Selon les comptes rendus des rares organismes humanitaires présents sur place, la population qui reste connaît un niveau élevé d insécurité alimentaire et de malnutrition aiguë. Avec le soutien du MAECD, Développement et Paix contribue à répondre aux besoins des ménages vulnérables touchés par l insécurité alimentaire en Érythrée. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) fournir une aide en espèces à 2 050 ménages; 2) distribuer de la nourriture à 1 000 ménages en région rurale éloignée; 3) distribuer des semences à 800 ménages pour cultiver des jardins potagers; 4) distribuer des animaux d élevage (bétail, volailles) à 820 ménages; 5) fournir de la formation sur la santé et la nutrition à 5 000 fournisseurs de soins primaires; 6) dépister les cas de malnutrition aiguë au moyen d activités de dépistage mensuelles et diriger les personnes atteintes vers les hôpitaux ou les centres de santé locaux.

March 2014 - Ethiopia continue...s to face significant humanitarian challenges, including chronic drought in many areas of the country, widespread food insecurity, ongoing conflict in the south-eastern Somali Region, and the impact of hosting a large number of Somali, Sudanese and Eritrean refugees on its soil. According to the Government of Ethiopia and United Nations estimates, at least 2.7 million people (2.3 million Ethiopians and 400,000 refugees) will require humanitarian assistance, including food assistance, nutritional and medical support, and water and sanitation in 2014. With DFATD s support, Doctors without Borders Canada is helping to provide access to proper medical care to drought and conflict-affected people in Somali Regional State. Activities include: (1) supporting two regional hospitals, four district health centres, and nine health posts, that are providing a wide range of medical services, including emergency surgery, to a local population of at least 478,000 people; (2) conducting immunization outreach campaigns, in cooperation with local officials; and (3) supporting local government efforts to prevent and treat acute malnutrition. / Mars 2014 - L Éthiopie demeure aux prises avec d importants enjeux humanitaires, dont une sécheresse chronique dans de nombreuses régions du pays, une insécurité alimentaire répandue, un conflit permanent dans la région du sud-est de la Somalie et les répercussions de l accueil d un grand nombre de réfugiés somaliens, soudanais et érythréens sur son territoire. The International Committee of... the Red Cross s (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by war and internal violence. The ICRC provides these affected people with assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With DFATD s support, ICRC s emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support, and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence. This funding supports specific country emergency appeals. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission de protéger la vie et la dignité des victimes de conflits armés et de violence interne. Le CICR fournit une assistance à ces personnes et fait la promotion et du renforcement du droit international humanitaire et des principes humanitaires universels pour éviter davantage de souffrance. The Canadian Humanitarian Assi...stance Fund (CHAF), managed by the Humanitarian Coalition (HC), supports timely and reliable humanitarian assistance to those affected by small-scale, rapid-onset disasters in developing countries. Through the CHAF, funds are allocated to the Humanitarian Coalition member best placed to respond to a particular emergency. The Humanitarian Coalition is made up of five Canadian non-governmental organizations: CARE Canada, OXFAM Canada, OXFAM-Québec, Plan Canada and Save the Children Canada. With DFATD s support, the CHAF is: (1) promoting early actions and responses to reduce loss of life; (2) improving the speed of emergency responses; and (3) supporting live-saving activities such as health care, protection services, shelter, as well as water, sanitation and hygiene services.

The project aims to save lives..., reduce suffering, and maintain human dignity in communities experiencing emergency health crises by ensuring the delivery of timely, effective health services. The project supports the Canadian Red Cross Society and the broader International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (RCM) to prevent and reduce deaths during humanitarian crises, and to support local health systems to return to pre-emergency states of operation. As part of the First Responder Initiative, the Canadian Red Cross Society developed two emergency field hospitals to assist emergency operations lead by the RCM. This project builds on this initiative by improving the flexibility of the field hospitals. This is achieved by creating stand-alone medical units that can be deployed one at a time in response to smaller emergencies, or together as a full field hospital for larger emergencies. The project also aims to strengthen the regional health response capacity of the RCM, with a particular focus on the Americas. The project assists the America's RCM regional office in creating mobile regional medical units, which are scaled-down versions of larger Red Cross emergency field hospitals. These regional medical units are designed to meet the specific health needs of populations in the region during small- to medium-scale emergencies. The project also supports the development of new research, resources, and training curricula related to improving emergency health responses. This project falls under the larger DFATD - Canadian Red Cross Strategic Partnership to Enhance Canada's Humanitarian Assistance. / Ce projet a pour but de sauver des vies, de réduire la souffrance et de préserver la dignité humaine dans les collectivités qui affrontent une crise sanitaire, en offrant en temps utile des services de santé efficaces. Ce projet soutient la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge et le Mouvement international de la Croix-Rouge et du Croissant-Rouge dans son ensemble pour prévenir les décès lors des crises humanitaires et en limiter le nombre, ainsi que pour aider les systèmes de santé locaux à revenir à la normale. Dans le cadre de l'Initiative du premier intervenant, la Société canadienne de la Croix-Rouge a mis sur pied deux hôpitaux de campagne dans le but d'appuyer les opérations de secours dirigées par le Mouvement. Ce projet élargit la portée de l'Initiative du premier intervenant en améliorant la souplesse de fonctionnement de ces hôpitaux. As a result of the January 12,... 2010 earthquake, most government buildings in Port-au-Prince collapsed or were severely damaged. The Haitian government requested Canada s assistance to establish temporary facilities for key ministries and Haitian public servants. The purpose of this project is to establish temporary operational centres for Haitian government ministries, enabling them to more effectively manage and coordinate their response to the earthquake. The temporary administrative base accommodates up to 300 Haitian government employees. It consists of offices equipped with desks, computers, and office supplies; information technology and communications equipment; electricity, water, and cooling systems; and sanitation equipment and facilities. It accommodates the Ministry of Public Health and Population, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation, and the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission. / En raison du séisme du 12 janvier 2010, la plupart des édifices gouvernementaux à Port-au-Prince se sont effondrés ou ont été gravement endommagés. Le gouvernement haïtien a demandé l appui du Canada pour établir des installations temporaires pour des ministères et des fonctionnaires clés. Ce projet a comme objective de mettre en place des centres de travail temporaires pour des ministères du gouvernement haïtien, afin de leur permettre de mieux gérer et coordonner leur réponse au séisme. La base administrative temporaire peut accueillir jusqu à 300 employés du gouvernement haïtien. Elle comprend des bureaux munies de mobilier, d ordinateurs et de fournitures; de l équipement de technologie de l information et de communication; des systèmes électriques, d alimentation en eau, et de refroidissement; et de l équipement et des installations d hygiène. This project seeks to resettle... 16,000 of the most vulnerable Haitian families (or 52,720 individuals), who are still living in camps following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti near Port-au-Prince in January 2010. It is estimated that over 200,000 people died as a result of the earthquake and 1.5 million people were internally displaced. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as of December 2013, 39,464 families (146,573 individuals) were still living in 271 camps across Port-au-Prince. The IOM is resettling the families living in 60 camps that have been identified as the most environmentally vulnerable, in which people face higher risks of forced evictions, and/or which are located on school grounds. This project seeks to resettle... 16,000 of the most vulnerable Haitian families (or 52,720 individuals), who are still living in camps following the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti near Port-au-Prince in January 2010. It is estimated that over 200,000 people died as a result of the earthquake and 1.5 million people were internally displaced. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), as of December 2013, 39,464 families (146,573 individuals) were still living in 271 camps across Port-au-Prince. March 2014 - Haiti has made si...gnificant progress in recovering from the devastating earthquake of January 2010. Ninety percent of the population displaced by the earthquake has left the camps and the incidence of cholera has been reduced by 50% since the outbreak in 2010. However, an estimated 3 million of Haiti s 10 million people are still extremely vulnerable. Of these, an estimated 817,000 people (8.3% of the overall population) require humanitarian assistance in the coming year. The needs include food, water, sanitation, hygiene, cholera prevention, protection (of children, especially young girls and women), and durable housing solutions for the remaining displaced people. With the support of DFATD and other donors, PAHO works to strengthen the capacity of public health care centers to prevent and control the transmission of cholera, as well as to reinforce departmental and national capacities in detecting and responding to cholera outbreaks. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating and repairing water supply systems and sanitation facilities; (2) promoting hygiene practices to health care workers; (3) mobilizing four rapid response teams to monitor and respond to urgent medical needs as they arise; (4) assisting the Ministry of Health in establishing an emergency operation center; and (5) immunizing population at risk with cholera vaccination.

As fighting and human rights violations persist and international efforts remain to free territory controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the situation is expected to deteriorate and to cause additional displacement. With DFATD's support and other donors, the partner is providing assistance and protection to people of concern in Iraq. Project activities include: (1) providing 1,350,000 conflict-affected people with access to legal assistance; (2) increasing the capacity of local authorities to establish and maintain camps for internally displaced people; (3) providing 50,000 emergency shelters, clothing and other essential relief items to 120,000 families; (4) providing healthcare and support services to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence in camps; and (5) working with local Iraqi organizations to increase their capacity to provide safe, confidential, non-discriminatory and compassionate comprehensive services to women and girls. / Mars 2015 - La situation humanitaire en Iraq continue de se détériorer. Les affrontements violents ayant opposé les groupes armés et les forces gouvernementales ont forcé plus de 2,4 millions de personnes à quitter leurs foyers. The World Food Programme (WFP)... is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saving lives by getting food to the hungry fast, and it also works to help prevent hunger in the future. With the support of DFATD and other donors, WFP is providing emergency food assistance to approximately seven million vulnerable people in Iraq and Yemen in 2014. In humanitarian emergencies, WFP focuses on providing food assistance to reduce acute malnutrition and food insecurity, and to protect livelihoods. Activities include: (1) providing assistance such as food, cash and family food parcels; (2) providing nutritional support to treat and prevent acute and chronic malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies; and (3) supporting school feeding programs. / Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des aliments aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le PAM fournit en 2014 une assistance alimentaire d urgence à quelque sept millions de personnes vulnérables en Irak et au Yémen. August 2014 - The humanitarian... situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate as armed clashes continue to drive displacement. The recent surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has displaced an estimated 1.3 million people from their homes. Basic services, including health care and water infrastructure, are disrupted and cause an estimated 1.5 million people to be in need of immediate humanitarian assistance. Iraqi Kurdistan is hosting an additional 230,000 Syrian refugees, which is also placing a great strain on local infrastructure. The situation is expected to deteriorate as fighting and human rights violations persist. This project is helping to reduce the vulnerability of internally displaced people affected by the civil unrest in Iraq. Project activities include: (1) providing food assistance to up to 342,000 people and essential household items, such as hygiene kits, cooking materials, blankets and tents, to up to 240,000 people; (2) rehabilitating essential water and sanitation facilities, such as drinking water stations and latrines, benefiting 1 million people; (3) assisting health facilities through the provision of medical supplies, training for medical professionals and physical rehabilitation services; and (4) promoting respect for humanitarian principles and international humanitarian law with Iraqi authorities and other influential actors.

Iraqi Kurdistan is hosting an additional 215,000 Syrian refugees, which is also placing a great strain on local infrastructure. The situation is expected to deteriorate as fighting and human rights violations persist. With GAC's support, the partner is helping to provide basic healthcare services including mental health services to up to 55,000 displaced persons in Dohuk and Erbil Governorates. Project activities include: (1) providing healthcare services and mental health assistance at camp-based clinics; (2) providing primary healthcare services through a mobile medical unit; and (3) provision of essential medical commodities to existing medical facilities. / Septembre 2014 - La situation humanitaire en Irak continue de se détériorer à mesure que les affrontements armés provoquent des déplacements. La récente flambée de violence entre les groupes armés et les forces gouvernementales a entrainé le déplacement d'environ 1,7 million de personnes de leur foyer. Les services essentiels, dont les soins de santé et les infrastructures d'approvisionnement en eau, sont perturbés, ce qui engendre des besoins humanitaires extrêmes. Le Kurdistan irakien accueille 215 000 réfugiés syriens supplémentaires, ce qui cause de fortes pressions sur les infrastructures locales. March 2015 - The humanitarian ...situation in Iraq continues to deteriorate. The violence between armed groups and government forces has displaced over 2.4 million people from their homes. An estimated 5.2 million people in Iraq have been affected by the conflict and are in need of humanitarian assistance. Basic services, including health care and water infrastructure, are disrupted, resulting in acute humanitarian needs. As fighting and human rights violations persist and international efforts remain to free territory controlled by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the situation is expected to deteriorate and to cause additional displacement. With DFATD's support, and that of other donors, the partner is providing protection for up to 35,000 women and girls survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) across Iraq. Project activities include: (1) establishing women and girls centres in camps and host communities to provide services to SGBV survivors, such as case management, community outreach to identify victims of SGBV that don't come forward, and organize advocacy campaigns to raise awareness of SGBV; (2) addressing child forced marriage by providing direct support and safe spaces for child brides and engaging the community on the issue of early and forced marriage; and (3) coordinating the overall humanitarian response to SGBV in Iraq. / Mars 2015 - La situation humanitaire en Iraq continue de se détériorer. With DFATD's support, Plan Canada is helping to reduce the vulnerability of internally displaced women and girls affected by the civil unrest in Iraq. August 2014 - The humanitarian... situation in Syria continues to deteriorate as a result of the civil war in the country. The United Nations estimates that more than 190,000 people have been killed, with hundreds of thousands more wounded, due to the violence. Within Syria, some 10.8 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, 6.5 million of whom are internally displaced. In addition, 3 million Syrian refugees are registered and living in host countries in the region. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the impact of the conflict and host countries are increasingly overstretched by the influx of affected people needing assistance. With DFATD s support, Handicap International Canada (HIC) is addressing the emergency needs of 37,500 of the most vulnerable Syrian crisis-affected people in Jordan. This project helps people with injuries, disabilities and chronic medical conditions as well as elderly and isolated individuals, who face extra barriers when accessing humanitarian assistance and are at greater risk of exploitation. Project activities include: (1) identifying, assessing needs and referring vulnerable people to appropriate vital services; (2) providing physical rehabilitation care and psychosocial support to 6,000 individuals; and (3) providing cash assistance to 600 highly vulnerable households.

With DFATD s support, Development and Peace is helping to meet the needs of Syrian refugees living outside the camps, and vulnerable Jordanians, in targeted areas, by ensuring continued access to critical medical care, counselling and psychosocial assistance, and shelter. March 2015 - The humanitarian ...situation in Syria continues to deteriorate as a result of the civil war and intensified violence in the country. The United Nations estimates that 12.2 million people inside Syria, including 5.6 million children, are in need of humanitarian assistance. Combined with 3.8 million Syrians seeking refuge from the conflict in neighbouring countries, this is the largest number of people displaced from conflict in the world. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the consequences of the conflict and host countries are increasingly overstretched by the influx of people fleeing the conflict. With DFATD's support and that of other donors, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is increasing access to health care services, protection, and clinical and social services for conflict-affected people, with a particular focus on pregnant women and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon,. Project activities include: (1) providing support for the delivery of life-saving healthcare, including emergency obstetric care, for up to 2.8 million women in Syria, up to 316,000 women in Jordan and up to 622,000 women in Lebanon; (2) providing support for the rehabilitation of maternal health centres to strengthen the delivery of life-saving healthcare services for women; and (3) enhancing the prevention and response mechanisms for sexual and gender-based violence, including psychosocial support, benefitting more than 2.3 million women and girls. / Décembre 2014 - La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se détériorer en raison de la guerre civile et de l'intensification de la violence dans ce pays. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the World Food Programme s Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. November 2013 - The humanitari...an situation in Syria has rapidly deteriorated over the past year as a result of the civil war in the country. The United Nations estimates more than 110,000 people have been killed, and hundreds of thousands more wounded, due to the violence. Within Syria, some 9.3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, 6.5 million of whom are internally displaced. In addition, over 2.2 million Syrian refugees are living in host countries in the region. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the gravest consequences of the conflict and host countries are increasingly overstretched by the influx of people needing assistance. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) will support the Lebanese National Red Cross to deliver immediate assistance to crisis-affected people in the region. Project activities include the provision of: emergency health care; psychosocial support; water and sanitation facilities; non-food relief items such as bedding, cooking supplies and clothing; financial assistance to help people pay rent; and hygiene kits. The IFRC is also working to improve the ability of the Lebanese National Red Cross to prepare for disasters and do contingency planning. / Novembre 2013 - La situation humanitaire en Syrie s est rapidement détériorée au cours de la dernière année en raison de la guerre civile qui y fait rage. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the impact of the conflict and host countries are increasingly overstretched by the influx of affected people needing assistance. With DFATD s support, Development and Peace is helping to prevent the outbreak of contagious diseases, manage acute and chronic diseases and promote mother and child health, among 15,000 Syrian refugee and 5,000 Lebanese host and vulnerable families. Project activities include: (1) providing primary health care services to 20,000 Syrian refugees and vulnerable host community members through four mobile clinics and six health care centres; (2) conducting awareness sessions on health issues benefitting 2,600 women; (3) distributing personal hygiene kits to 12,000 households; and (4) building the capacity of 50 local health staff. / Mai 2014 - La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se détériorer en raison de la guerre civile qui fait rage dans ce pays. Within Syria, some 9.3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, 6.5 million of whom are internally displaced. In addition, over 2.8 million Syrian refugees are registered and living in host countries in the region. Women and children are particularly vulnerable to the impact of the conflict and host countries are increasingly overstretched by the influx of affected people needing assistance. With DFATD s support, Handicap International Canada (HIC) is addressing the emergency needs of 23,700 of the most vulnerable Syrian crisis-affected people in Lebanon. This project assists people with injuries, disabilities and chronic medical conditions as well as elderly and isolated individuals, who face extra barriers when accessing humanitarian assistance and are at greater risk of exploitation. Project activities include: (1) supporting health facilities to provide emergency rehabilitation care; (2) providing physical rehabilitation care and psychosocial support to 4,000 people; and (3) identifying, assessing needs and referring vulnerable people to appropriate services. / Juin 2014 - La situation humanitaire en Syrie continue de se détériorer en raison de la guerre civile qui fait rage dans ce pays. Fighting, banditry and land-mine contamination restrict the access for relief agencies to only some areas, where basic services such as medical care and water and sanitation services are gradually resuming. Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including protection, shelter, food, nutrition and livelihoods assistance, as well as access to clean water, health and sanitation services. With DFATD s support, Médecins du Monde is providing emergency health care and nutrition services to up to 365,000 vulnerable people in the Kidal and Gao regions. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitation of health centres, including the provision of medical equipment and medicines; (2) provision of health care; and (3) screening and treatment of malnutrition. / Mars 2014 - Quelque 3,3 millions de personnes vivant au Mali n ont pas accès à une alimentation suffisante, saine et nutritive. Les troubles et le conflit qui touchent le Nord du pays ont entraîné le déplacement de 472 000 personnes, dont 171 000 qui ont dû fuir vers des pays voisins pour échapper à la violence. Les combats, le pillage et les mines terrestres restreignent l accès des organisations d aide à quelques régions seulement, où les services de base tels que les soins médicaux et les services d approvisionnement en eau et d assainissement reprennent peu à peu. Les réfugiés, les personnes déplacées à l intérieur de leur pays et les collectivités d accueil ont besoin d aide humanitaire immédiate, dont de la protection, des abris, des vivres, des services de nutrition, de l aide au rétablissement des moyens de subsistance, un accès à des services d approvisionnement en eau potable et d assainissement et des soins de santé. Avec le soutien du MAECD, Médecins du Monde fournit des soins de santé et des services de nutrition d urgence à un maximum de 365 000 personnes vulnérables dans les régions de Kidal et de Gao. Parmi les activités de ce projet : 1) remettre en état des centres de santé, ce qui comprend la fourniture d équipements médicaux et de médicaments; 2) offrir des soins de santé; 3) offrir des services de dépistage et de traitement de la malnutrition.

March 2014 - Some 3.3 million ...people in Mali do not have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food. Unrest and conflict in the north, have displaced 472,000 people, including 171,000 who have fled to neighbouring countries to escape the violence. Fighting, banditry and land-mine contamination restrict the access for relief agencies to only some areas, where basic services such as medical care and water and sanitation services are gradually resuming. Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, including protection, shelter, food, nutrition and livelihoods assistance, as well as access to clean water, health and sanitation services. With DFATD s support, OXFAM-Québec is providing emergency assistance for 36,000 conflict-affected people in the districts of Gao and Bourem, including access to water, and the provision of essential items to improve their health and livelihoods. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitation or construction of water points for the supply of safe drinking water; (2) distribution of hygiene kits, including soap, jerry cans and mosquito nets ; (3) distribution of seeds and tools to produce rice (4) rehabilitation of irrigated dikes to prevent flooding; and (5) promotion of human rights and equity in accessing humanitarian assistance. / Mars 2014 - Quelque 3,3 millions de personnes vivant au Mali n ont pas accès à une alimentation suffisante, saine et nutritive. March 2014 - The World Food Pr...ogramme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of DFATD and other donors, the World Food Programme s Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Mars 2014 - Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies en acheminant rapidement des vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, le Service aérien d aide humanitaire du Programme alimentaire mondial assure le transport aérien sécuritaire, fiable, souple et efficient du personnel humanitaire dans de nombreux pays. Il assure le transport de travailleurs humanitaires et de marchandises légères pour les organismes humanitaires, et assure des services d évacuation pour des raisons médicales et de sécurité.
