|
Comprehensive Platform for Int...egrated Communication Initiative (CPICI)
more
|
The goal of the Comprehensive ...Platform for Integrated Communications Initiative (CPICI) Cooperative Agreement is to support the Recipient's interventions and collaboration with the Government of Tanzania (GOT) to improve the health status especially of women and youth. The purpose is to support the Recipient's program to foster positive health practices in households and communities through changes in social and cultural norms that will enable and maintain these practices. Specifically, USAID intends to support interventions consistent with a strategic approach of using social behavior change communication interventions to improve the health of Tanzanians, demonstrating a clear link between program interventions and health status outcomes. USAID seeks to support a program where messages are tailored to geographic, epidemiological and audience segments at the regional level. Because regional radio programs have proven successful in the past, USAID seeks to support a program that incorporates this type of radio as a core media channel. Beyond traditional media, USAID seeks to support a program that is expected to use innovative techniques and mobile technologies to support program quality, reach, and effectiveness.

Tuberculosis Implementation Fr...amework Agreement (TIFA)
more
|
TIFA will improve government c...apacity and commitment, leverage domestic resources to maximize impact and sustain results as we work together to achieve the global target of treating 40 million people with TB by 2022. As USAID looks forward to the day when foreign assistance for TB is no longer necessary, TIFA will emphasize host government ownership and accountability of the TB programs in priority countries. TIFA recipients will create agreements with local government entities to build organizational and technical capacity to improve TB services and to sustain results long after the life of the project. Through TIFA, host governments will be empowered to implement locally-generated, context-specific solutions, focus on the scale- up of new technologies with proven results to improve TB case-detection and treatment outcomes, and utilize new approaches to increase local ownership. Newly created partnerships with local government entities will identify quantifiable milestones and targets in order to strengthen accountability of local governments and increase ownership of their TB program. TIFA s primary objectives include: ? Developing efficient mechanisms for support to national TB programs and local government entities to effectively implement National TB Strategic Plans, ? Empowering local government entities to become more self-reliant, and ? Leveraging and advocating for additional domestic resources for TB at all levels among local government entities.

The activity will directly work with Ministry of Health's leadership to address the high TB burden in Uganda. It will focus on finding missing TB cases through effective community and facility-based interventions. It will coordinate closely with other U.S. government-supported responses to TB nationwide. It will also work with the National TB Leprosy Program to improve the quality of the existing Multi Drug Resistant (MDR)-TB program, support scale up of the short-term regimen for MDR-TB, revise MDR-TB guidelines in alignment with the new WHO 2018 guidance, strengthen health systems for TB and MDR-TB service delivery, and support the use of newly-recommended TB and MDR-TB drugs.

STAR improves the effectivenes...s of global health programs worldwide by developing and strengthening the capacity of global health professionals by placing fellows and interns in external institutions, primarily in USAID-supported countries, and in USAID in partnership with academic and other institutions. The activity supports two resu...lts:..1. MCHN service delivery improved: This result will support Government of Uganda (GoU) efforts to cascade, from the national level to the subnational level, the policies, guidelines, standards and implementation strategies (henceforth referred to collectively as strategies) that promote improved MCHN service delivery. Specifically, the activity will: a. Strengthen national governments capacity to develop and roll out high quality strategies to improve MCHN service delivery, b. Support other USAID/Uganda efforts to help subnational governments adopt and scale-up national-level strategies to improve MCHN service delivery in Ugandas Eastern, East Central, Southwestern, and two Northern regions (Acholi and Lango). c. Strengthen national-subnational linkages, and subnational capacity, to deliver improved MCHN services in Kampala, creating a national model for urban service delivery...2. Capacity for MCHN good governance increased: This result will be achieved by further strengthening GoU capacity for the multi-sectoral cooperation, evidence-based decision-making, and good governance leadership required to achieve and sustain improvements in MCHN outcomes envisaged in Result 1 above.

|

The Tuberculosis Local Organiz...ation Network (TB LON) activity
more
|
The Tuberculosis Local Organiz...ation Network (TB LON) activity is 5 year project that is tailored to expand priority TB interventions in Lusaka and Southern Provinces, complementing other USAID TB activities that have focused in the northern parts of the country. At the national level, TB LON will support the NTP in cross cutting areas including training and mentorship, patient information systems (including lab information), domestic resource mobilization, operations research and commodity management. At provincial, district, facility and community levels LON will strengthen case finding and treatment. The project shall drive activities to improve TB case detection in health facilities, according to the National TB Prevalence Survey (2013-2014) majority of cases detected in the survey had previously been missed at a health facility. The project will utilize a facility-community mix with community case detection in identified hotspots and among key vulnerable populations such as miners and their communities, children and inmates. The project will strengthen linkages between community and facility case finding.
