In Ghana, as in many low and m...iddle-income countries, the majority of under-five deaths are caused by preventable infectious diseases. A well-functioning health system with robust health information could deliver real-time data to assist in managing these illnesses. Accordingly, in 2012, the Ghana Health Service introduced the District Health Information and Management System software. However, this system is not operational in rural parts of Ghana. Health facilities in these hard-to-reach communities still rely on a paper-based reporting system that is often inaccurate, incomplete, and not readily available for prompt decision-making.This project seeks to improve the quality and timeliness of evidence-based decision-making to improve child health outcomes in rural Ghana. This will be achieved by establishing a sustainable health information system that collects data on under-five children from their caregivers and health facilities and by strengthening the capacity of various stakeholders to adequately use that data. It will be implemented in collaboration with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.The project will use the multi-purpose function of a mobile phone-based health information system to empower caregivers to identify health problems of their under-five children. The system will link them to a centralized system with a built-in algorithm to collect data on children's symptoms and allow the caregivers to interact with health workers for further advice and follow-up. At the same time, this system will link to the Ghana Health service system to provide real-time data for decision-making at both central and local levels. In addition to publications, this project will result in improved quality of data and better access to and use of reliable health information from local to central levels. It will also result in enhanced caregiver capacity to identify childhood infectious diseases. This project represents one of nine projects spanning two regions (West Africa and the Middle East) and two thematic topics (adolescent sexual and reproductive health and health information systems). The project is closely aligned with the Government of Canada's new Feminist International Assistance Policy, the strategic priorities detailed in the 2016-2030 World Health Organization (WHO) led Global Strategy for Women, Children and Adolescents, and the overarching 2030 global agenda for sustainable development.

Frame agreement with NGO (Fida... Int.), The purpose of the Child Sponsorship project is to create a contact between a child with disability in western Kenya and a sponsor in Finland, and this way to support orphaned children in education and strengthen their foster families and the community. In Kenya, children with disabilities are totally excluded from the society and their rights are not defended. The local partner, Full Gospel Church, continues supporting children with disabilities, their families and village communities around Kakamega town with support from sponsors. Centre for children with disabilities founded in 1980 has been changed into a special school and is fully administered and operated by the partner. The project supports training and rehabilitation of the children with disabilities. New livelihood opportunities are developed for their families, who receive training in agriculture, sanitation, health, HIV related issues, and hygiene. The community is encouraged to be organized to improve their living conditions.

The objectives 1) raising awareness 2) advocacy to local school authorities and 3) training of school teachers. 4) Furthermore the objective is to empower children and young people with epilepsy to see their human and patient rights for equality and good care. The project gives tools to children and young people with epilepsy and their parents to tell openly about epilepsy. The project takes place in four rural districts of Malawi: Southern Mulanje (525 429 people) and Karonga (272 789) Mchinji in Middle (456 558) and Northern Chikwawa (438 895). There are about 33 700 persons with epilepsy of whom 17% are under 15 years according to a research on epilepsy by Lorraine Wapling and Action Amos (2009). The areas where chosen because of high incidences of malaria due humid and their dryness.The project enhances collaboration between Malawi and Finland Epilepsy Associations that started already in 2009. The project supports activities and lobbying of Malawi Epilepsy Association in the long run by teaching bookkeeping and audit practices. The beneficiaries are children and young people with epilepsy their families teachers and local school authorities. The project operates two years. It is coordinated by the volunteers of Malawi Epilepsy Association registered in 2012. Background: The project effects on significant problem of disabled people. Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that is more than seizures. Also cognitive mental health and social problems are common in epilepsy. Furthermore status epilepticus (seizures over 5 minutes) is life threatening. Appropriate medication helps many patients and they become seizure-free. The problem is the commitment to medication of the patients and their families because of stigma and wrong information about epilepsy. More than 80 % of people with epilepsy do not have appropriate medication for their condition. This is mainly because of the stigma and also because of weak infrastructure in Malawi. Children with epilepsy in Malawi are denied the opportunity to attend school. They report painful experiences of isolation discrimination ridicule abuse and exclusion by teachers and peers even the family members. The project will effect also on the availablity of mediacation in the long run.

This project aims to increase ...the enrollment of disabled children at the pre-school age of 3-6 years in public schools simultaneously with other children of the age group. Identification of children with disabilities or disabling diseases is conducted by examining screened children at the eye & ear camps. Around 10 000 children will be provided with rehabilitation and/or simple treatment necessary for school attendance and prevention of additional morbidity. An estimated 75 children with severe visual or hearing disability will undergo a four month rehabilitation in the hospital run by the local partner organization (Children?s Hospital for Eye Ear and Rehabilitation Services CHEERS). To reach these goals volunteers are trained among female health workers teachers and students so they can identify children with neurosensory disabilities or at risk of disability whom will be sent to eye & ear camps for medical evaluation. This contributes to reducing the prevalence of disabling neurosensory conditions which is also achieved by raising awareness of health related to sight and hearing among locals as well as decisionmakers. The project envisages all four aspects of health care delivery; preventive promotive curative and rehabilitative services. The project is to be realized as a three-year pilot in two districts in the Terai region of Nepal. The project is to be realized as a collaboration between a Nepalese NGO called B.P. Eye Foundation which has developed the project idea and PSR Finland which has been contacted by B.P. Eye foundation to act as a project partner. Based on the previous work of B.P.Eye Foundation this collaborative project also aims to change the Nepalese view on the rights of the disabled remove barriers and stigmas associated with disabilities and enable children with disabilities to become productive citizens. For sustainability of the activities the government of Nepal has made a preliminary commitment of implementing these protocols in other districts and eventually the whole of Nepal once the results of the pilot project turn out to be encouraging. B.P. Eye Foundation holds monthly meetings with the government and representatives from Early Childhood Development Center. The project is planned to start in 2015 with project duration of three years.

The purpose of the project is ...to strengthen the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program of the partner which provides services to children with disabilities in the community. The project is implementation by the Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania (FPCT) who is Fida s partner in Tanzania and targets 500 Children and Youth living with disability in Tanga region. Insufficient care and quality service to children with disabilities under five years has so many consequences. Neglect and denial to the children s rights to basic needs such as nutritious food, good shelter and clothes have impacted children with disability negatively. Poor living conditions of families have also contributed so much to insufficient support to these children. Both children and their families will need support to reverse the trend. To respond to the core problem, the project will continue strengthening the community-based rehabilitation services and care to children with disabilities. The intervention will be guided by the current WHO-CBR matrix in tackling some aspects of disability challenges. The improved care and quality of CBR services for children with disabilities under five years old include integrated nutrition, medical support and mobility assistive equipment. The project will also focus on child sponsorship, family empowerment through micro-credit programs and training on sustainable food security. The project s goal is to contribute to the wellbeing of children with disabilities and their families through a just, safe and caring partner in Tanzania. Family members and other community members will be committed and responsible for taking care of their children and youth with disabilities. The community-based rehabilitation program will be improved to enhance self reliance and sustainability.

A nurse will be employed and the security of the school will also improve during this project period. The local partner is New Life Outreach. The organisation has clear goals and and an ability to implement the project according to goals and timetables.
