USAID's four-year food fortifi...cation project (RANFOSE) seeks to improve health and nutrition outcomes by addressing the linked issues of micronutrient deficiencies and food fortification. Micronutrient deficiencies continue to pose a major challenge in Haiti. Based on 2016-2017 Demographic Health Survey data, 66% of children under five are anemic as are 49% of women of reproductive age. The RANFOSE project works with importers, distributors, and local food producers to fortify wheat flour with iron and folic acid, vegetable oils with vitamin A, and salt with iodine.

The five-year, $600 million MC...C compact with Indonesia's three projects are expected to increase household income and increase productivity through better health and nutrition, sustainable land and energy management, and modernized government procurement. - The $131.5 million Community-Based Health and Nutrition to Reduce Stunting Project—part of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s five-year, $600 million compact with Indonesia— aims to reduce and prevent low birth weight and childhood stunting and malnourishment of children in project areas, and to increase household income through cost savings, productivity growth and higher lifetime earnings. The project will target about 7,000 villages in provinces where rates of stunting and low birth weight in infants and children up to 2 years old are higher than national averages. To meet the increased demand for health services generated by the block grants, the project increases the ability of the health system to supply quality services by training health workers in infant and young child feeding, growth monitoring, and sanitation. This is complemented by a national mass media and behavior change communication campaign focused on improving sanitation and child feeding practices.

The Supply Side Activity con...sists of the financing of training to Service Providers, sanitation and hygiene activities, provision of multiple micronutrient packets, materials to measure children's height, and other incentives, as well as private sector interventions. MCC Funding will support the creation of an enhanced training program to all Service Providers in the designated project areas, as well as enhanced training for facilitators (the Training Program ). With respect to the facilitators, the purpose of the Training Program is to redirect the choice of activities to be financed under the Community Projects Activity to encourage a focus on stunting reduction and related interventions such as feeding practices, training regarding height and weight measurement, diet quality and micronutrients, and sanitation behavior change. The Training Program is also aimed at strengthening women's empowerment and increasing fathers' role in health interventions for target beneficiaries. MCC Funding will be used by the Government, through MCA-Indonesia, to make one or more grants for the purpose of leveraging private sector responses to community and family needs for improved mothers' and infants' nutrition and community sanitation.

HEALTH SERVICE DELIVERY (HSD)
Health Service Delivery (HSD)
The Health Service Delivery ac...tivity will increase the quality of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) care to improve health outcomes in Jordan. USAID will implement an integrated quality improvement approach at the facility level throughout all of Jordan's Governorates, improving health clinics serving 75 percent of Jordan's population. In addition to facility-level interventions, USAID will work with the Ministry of Health to institutionalize improvements in the quality of service delivery and roll out best practices in MNCH care. USAID will improve the physical infrastructure of health centers through minor repairs and renovations. Through the activity, USAID will support Jordan to maintain its previous gains in maternal and neonatal survival, and create opportunities for further integrating family planning with maternal and child health services.

Afya County and National Suppo...rt Program
more
Afya County and National Suppo...rt Program will contribute to the attainment of Kenyas health goals and ultimately the SDGs by contributing to more equitable access to and use of quality health services by the most vulnerable, while enhancing the efficiency of county health systems pertinent to FP/RMNCAH nutrition and WASH. Through a health systems strengthening approach, which includes demand creation interventions aimed at improving health seeking behavior, Afya County and National Support Program will support improved health of women and children, and WASH activities will contribute to Kenyas goals of ending preventable deaths among children and mothers by 2030, meeting 75 percent of the demand for family planning services by 2020, and achieving good nutrition for optimum health of all Kenyans. Science Technology and Innovation Partnership approaches hold significant potential to increase the cost-effectiveness, impact, and sustainability of reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health programs. This activity will utilize an implementation science approach to identify innovative solutions which may include ICT to ensure better service delivery and communication especially for the most vulnerable.

USAID Nurture: Improving Commu...nity Sanitation and Nutritional Status in Key Vulnerable Areas in Laos
more
The USAID Nurture project help...s improve infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices in 1,000 Days households (homes with pregnant women and children under two years of age). Communities are also mobilized to conduct their own appraisal and analysis of their nutrition and WASH environment. This process spurs action to address nutrition-related concerns resulting from poor IYCF practices and inadequate WASH approaches, including environmental enteropathy, diarrhea and other conditions that limit nutrient absorption, a major cause of stunting. USAID Nurture additionally leverages private sector relationships to facilitate supplies of products that support uptake of targeted WASH practices. By developing a model of integrated delivery, it also supports the Government of Laos (GoL) as it clarifies roles and responsibilities across national, provincial and district levels to help ensure consistency and ownership of these efforts.

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH)
more
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

TIWALERE II
Tiwalere II
USAID/Malawi's Tiwalere II act...ivity is a public-private partnership between USAID and Feed the Children and its corporate partners, Nu Skin and Procter and Gamble. Tiwalere II delivers high-impact interventions targeting children under the age of five and women, with special focus on the 1,000 days between conception and age two. The activity will finance community-level workers' efforts to consult with mothers and caregivers on the care and feeding practices of infants and young children. Tiwalere II will conduct nutrition education to improve knowledge and practices; strengthen community referral and support systems for pregnant women and children under the age of five; promote adequate women's nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding through social behavior change; construct boreholes and maintain non-functional ones; facilitate the creation of open defecation-free communities and promote access to improved water and sanitation services and the adoption of improved hygiene practices; and promote bed net usage to prevent malaria. The activity has interventions in irrigation farming, winter cropping, fruit tree propagation, and orange-fleshed sweet potato cultivation. The Care Group Model approach that Tiwalere provides at the community level serves as a powerful social and behavior change approach. The approach reinforces community members' confidence and the capacity and skills to act as agents of their own development process, and it fosters self reliance. The activity will improve the health and nutrition status of under-five children in targeted districts in central and northern Malawi and is fundamental to achieving Joint Regional Strategy Goal 4.3 - sustainably reducing hunger, malnutrition and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Good nutrition is essential to reducing maternal and child mortality around the world and reaching the Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths (PCMD) goals.

TIWALERE II
