Sudan Health Transformation Pr...oject II (SHTP II)
more
In the second phase of the Sud...an Health Transformation Project (SHTP II), MSH is transitioning health service delivery from relief to development. Specifically, SHTP II is expanding access and coverage by: 1) enhancing quality of health services through an integrated package of high-impact services; 2) increasing demand through community mobilization; 3) engendering the community's confidence in health services through strengthening of County Health Departments (CHDs) and the MOH. MSH, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, is working alongside as many as 12 international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) responsible for delivering primary health services in a target county. The goal is to establish fully functional service delivery points (FFSDP) with coverage of 80 percent of the catchment population in 12 focus counties within three years.

Prevention and Treatment of Mo...derate Acute Malnutrition in Tajikistan
more
The project supports WFP, unde...r the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Programme (TSFP), to assist malnourished children over a period of 12 months in 140 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Khatlon region through provision of specialized nutritious food. The targeted districts were selected jointly with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of Population, taking into consideration the high malnutrition rate and the capacity of the public health centers both in terms of human resources and infrastructure. This is done in order to ensure proper implementation and the possibility of replicating sustainable models in other regions. While WFP provides the treatment to moderate acute malnourished children, UNICEF will support the cases of severe acute malnutrition at the PHCs and District Therapeutic Feeding centers.

Resiliency through Wealth, Agr...iculture, and Nutrition (RWANU) is a Title II development food assistance program implemented in the districts of Napak, Nakapiripirit, Moroto, and Amudat in southern Karamoja. The activity has two main objectives: (1) Improved availability and access to food; and (2) Reduced malnutrition in pregnant and lactating mothers and children under five. The activity will reach 270,000 direct beneficiaries over a five-year period. Interventions are expected to include: diversifying livelihood assets and opportunities; promoting improved technologies and practices; improving infant and young child feeding practices; improving maternal health and nutrition in pregnant and lactating women; enhancing access to clean water/sanitation and improving hygiene practices; and promoting access to local health care.

Concern Worldwide (Concern), A...CDI/VOCA and WeltHungerHilfe (WHH) designed the Resiliency through Wealth, Agriculture and Nutrition in Karamoja (RWANU) program to respond to Food for Peace’s (FFP) overall strategic objective for the USAID Title II program in Uganda: reduce food insecurity among chronically food insecure households. RWANU will be implemented in 16 sub-counties in the districts of Napak, Moroto, Amuadat and Nakapiripirit, all of which are located in the Province of Karamoja. The goal of this programme is to reduce food insecurity among vulnerable people in South Karamoja. There are two strategic objectives: the first is improved access to food for men and women, which is being addressed through livelihood, agriculture, livestock, and marketing activities. The second objective is to reduce malnutrition in pregnant and lactating mothers and children under 5, which is being achieved by improving health and nutrition practices at the household level mainly using the mother care group approach as well as by improving service delivery for prevention and treatment of maternal and childhood illnesses and malnutrition. In the new phase of the project, a WASH component will be added to the programming (https://www.ngoaidmap.org/projects/10671)

USAID/Uganda Advocacy for Bett...er Better Health
more
This mechanism will implement ...advocacy activities targeting a range of HIV, health and education issues in 35 districts, funded from the FHP and PEPFAR accounts. The program will work with civil society organizations (CSOs), through existing community, district and national level structures, and with other USAID programs and will result in strengthening the citizens' voice, increasing demand for services and the promotion of country ownership. The key objectives are: 1) to ensure that communities in the selected districts can identify and articulate their needs and are able to demand quality services; 2) to ensure that the CSOs develop effective advocacy initiatives and are able to represent the communities' demands for better quality services; and 3) to build the technical and operational capacity of the CSOs to qualify them as potential direct recipients of future USAID funding.

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH)
more
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
The United States Agency for I...nternational Development's (USAID) Bureau for Global Health's flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

BREAKTHROUGH-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION will use s...tate-of-the-art, evidence-based tools to encourage people in developing countries to adopt healthy behaviors, from using modern contraceptive methods to sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV. Much of the work will harness the power of communication from mass media campaigns to TV and radio dramas to simple posters in a health clinic to inspire long-lasting change. The project will also take advantage of other behavioral science approaches such as behavioral economics and human-centered design to improve programs. The program which builds on a prior five-year, 31-country project called the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) is expected to be double the size. It will be led by CCP who will partner with Save the Children, ideas42, ThinkPlace Kenya and Camber Collective. Breakthrough-ACTION will also be supported in the field by ActionSprout, the International Center for Research on Women and Human Network International. CCP is based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

AMALIMA
Amalima
Amalima is a five-year, Food f...or Peace funded activity under the Mission's development food assistance program designed to address underlying causes of food and nutrition insecurity. The program will assist vulnerable households in arid and semi-arid areas to build resilience to future food security related shocks while promoting positive nutrition behaviors to reduce chronic malnutrition among children less than five years of age. It complements the ENSURE activity, which has a similar mandate, but operates in a different part of the country.
more
Program Approach:
Improve ...Sustainable Access to and Availability of Food: Amalima promotes climate and conservation-sensitive agriculture practices and encourages the adoption of improved agriculture and livestock production practices;
Strengthen Community Resilience to Shocks: Amalima partners with communities to improve livelihoods and build resilience by creating and strengthening disaster risk reduction (DRR) committees through cash for asset activities, household asset vouchers, and village savings and lending (VS&L) groups that promote income generating activities and savings to build household resiliency;
Improve Nutrition and Health: Amalima improves the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices, dietary diversity, and micro-nutrient intake of pregnant and lactating women and children under two by distributing supplementary feeding rations and enhancing nutrition care practices with a combination of capacity building, mentoring, and community-based messaging delivered through care groups and community health clubs;
Promote Gender Equality: Amalima empowers women to play a key role in food security and resiliency at the household and community levels through increased access to and control over incomes, while promoting men and women to take increasingly equal responsibilities for both productive and reproductive activities.
