This project is a joint projec...t between the Uganda Girl Guides Association the Uganda Scouts Association and the Guides and Scouts of Finland. The overall objective in this project is enhancing gender equality in Uganda through supporting girls' education. Girls' ability to manage their menstruation during school days is connected to the question of quality education for all and thus to girls? drop-out numbers absenteeism and low completion rates. For example according to UNESCO estimation every tenth girl in Sub-Saharan Africa misses school during their menstrual cycle. This might equal as much as missing twenty percent of school days in a given school year. The niche of this project is in its ability to root the MHM as an integral part of the guiding and scouting programmes is Uganda. In addition to achieve the goal the attitude towards girls? education needs to be supportive. Therefore awareness raising in the society and advocacy are part of the project. By the end of the project equality in education between genders has strengthen where the project is implemented and will continue and spread through the guide and scout pro-grammes in the whole country. The project uses the already existing guide and scout method and organizations to create permanent positive change in the society. The project is implemented in Northern and Western regions and it has 12000 direct beneficiaries and reaches 51000 net individuals.

COWASH IV (Community-led Accel...erated Water Sanitation and Hygiene ProjectI) increases the availability of safe water and sanitation in rural areas of Ethiopia. The aimed long term impact is to improve the health of the population. WASH (water- sanitation and hygiene) sector is important in poverty reduction. In the water and sanitation sector the global policy direction is formulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes the targets for rural WASH as SDG 6.1 and 6.2. The project is based on the CMP model (Community Managed Project Approach): the communities are themselves in charge of the construction management and maintenance of thier water points. In the course of Phase IV the CMP model will be developed further to be modified towards higher technologies (deep wells water supply) largely triggered by the need to adapt to climate change especially droughts. CoWASH IV will continue in the same regions selected during Phase III: Oromia Tigray SNNPR Benichangul Gumuz and Amhara. The first phase of CoWASH project started in 2011. Since then the project has managed to build 15000 water points enabling access to clean water for 31 million rural people. Safe water supply and sanitation facilities has been provided for 967 schools and 419 health facilities. In phase IV the targeted number of people having new or re-habilitated/upgraded safe water supply is 800000. The aim is to increase the percentage of households using latrines from the current 42% up to 62%. Institutional WASH is targeted to schools and health facilities and the objective is to provide new safely managed water supply systems to 100 schools and health centres. Support to strengthened equity focuses especially to disabled people as well as girls and women. Empowerment of women in WASHCO management including participation in the decision-making processes is supported at the region and community level cooperation. CoWASH IV has an important role to ensure that project achievements and learning activities will be well documented and shared strategically to enhance the impact of COWASH IV on WASH sector policies and practices. Finland?s contribution for Phase IV is 184 MEUR which is an estimated 44% of the total budget; the regions and the communities will contribute the remaining 56% totaling to an estimated grand total of 414 MEUR.

In the project, two maternity ...clinics will be electrified in Tamani Soba and Ourala villages. There is no electricity in the villages. The activities in two villages have been initiated by the villagers and planned as a joint project due to close vicinity of the villages. Project also aims to strengthen the management and ownership of the local health care system and to increase awareness of renewable energy. In addition to solar lightning, the maternity clinics will receive refrigerators for storing vaccines as well as water heating systems. The village council members overseeing the clinics will be trained to operate and maintain the solar systems. The activities aim at enhance the health status and life expectancy by improving the sanitation. Clinic electrification will improve the health of mothers and newborn babies, who have suffered from the poor hygiene of the clinics. At the moment, there is not lightning nor hot water, and vaccines or other medicines cannot be kept due to the lack for cold storage. Direct beneficiaries of the project are the women and babies using the services of the Tamani Soba and Ourala (estimated 1784 persons). Project will be implemented by Association Malienne pour l'Appui et la Promotion des Initiatives Locales (AMAPIL). It will work together with village people, Nossombougou municipality and its health care association ASACO (l'Association de Santé Communautaire) as well as the companies selected for the technical work.

In many African countries, par...t of health care, especially in village communities - but also in cities - is taken care by volunteer workers. They receive only a brief introduction to the work, compensation for the work is inadequate and occupational safety is often not properly taken care of. However, many of them work full time. Most of these community health workers are women. The project will improve the rights and status of community health workers in South Africa, Zambia and Malawi. The aim is to formalize their status as employees. This includes being secured by labour laws and the right to a minimum wage. The long-term goal of the project is that community health workers enjoy the same rights as other workers. In the first phase, the aim is to strengthen the trade unions' understanding of the problems in the sector and their ability to reach and train the community health workers to know and demand their rights. The project will directly benefit community health workers in South Africa, Zambia and Malawi, as well as their families. With improved health care, the project will indirectly benefit all residents in the countries. The project is implemented by Public Services International PSI, together with its affiliates in South Africa, Zambia and Malawi. The project is supported by the trade union JHL in Finland.

The project focuses on an exit... strategy after six years of empowerment of women founders of 7 women's associations in municipalities of the Altiplano of La Paz. The previous projects aimed successfully at solving gaps and discriminating practices against women in indigenous Aymara communities.The project will institutionally strengthen the associations facilitating the preparation of Strategic Plans for 2021 and 2022. It will promote and accompany the associations to develop productive microprojects and obtain financing from the municipal government to execute them with the dual purpose of strengthen entrepreneurship and influence politically in the municipality. The surpluses generated in these family businesses will give the possibility of saving and improving the health culture for which the project will bring the world of private and public health closer to women through workshops with expert women. At the same time it will promote the creation of a solidarity fund in each association to face emergencies.In parallel the project will expand together with women and their husbands the content of the Household Redistribution Agreement signed between them and their husbands 2 years ago. Women's business techniques will be strengthened by facilitating the design and implementation of a trademark by each association to print on the innovative Fourth Range products that will also be designed and implemented. Participatory workshops will be held on the design and technical and commercial implementation of new products. The effort will lead to measure the gross income generated by each associated woman and comparing it with the national minimum wage so that the majority of women reach a monthly gross income of more than 80% of the national minimum wage.These results bring the previous initiatives closer to Target 5.5 and Target 5.4 of the SDGs which in turn reflect great progress in relation to Equal Opportunities under Objective 5 of Sustainable Development.

Finnish Red Cross Development ...Cooperation Programme aims at strengthening resilience of vulnerable individuals and communities in line with the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement Resilience Framework. The outcome is making households and individuals in target communities healthier and safer and in partnership with the respective National Society?s local branches and units ensure they have better capacity to withstand the effects of adversity. Activities are geographically focused on vulnerable contexts (countries areas and communities) where resilience activities facilitated by trained Red Cross volunteers add most value. The Red Cross as a Civil Society Organisation and auxiliary to the public authorities has most value added in fragile violent and climate change affected countries where the state is still too weak or dysfunctional providing complementary services or filling vital gaps and localizing the disaster risk reduction agenda in the spirit of Sendai Framework (2015-2030). The Programme is both geographically and thematically investing in larger programme cooperation with key long term partners in fragile and/or Least Developed Countries (LDCs).The Programme is contributing to Agenda 2030 by mitigating impact of disasters on people and assets as well as their hampering impact to development through strengthened preparedness for response and reduce risks of adverse events. The Finnish Red Cross supported community activities that contribute to the Programme outcome include strong inclusion aspect promoting the use of minimum standards in inclusion of women disabled elder and other vulnerable population groups coupled with leadership training and empowerment. Community risk assessment is used as a process for understanding and measuring communities? threats and vulnerability/capacity. Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (VCA) leading to integrated risk management activities. In addition all action to strengthen resilience should prevent suffering by focusing on understanding pre-empting and reducing risk to prevent crisis instead of responding to threats after they become disasters and/or epidemics.

In this project, one school an...d health centre in each of five villages of Koumantou municipality in Mali (N'tjila Maro, Tounfouga, Zamba, Mena and Kola) will be equipped with solar lighting. The aim is to enhance the living standard of the beneficiary communities due to the improved quality of health and education services as well as to increase the use of renewable and environmentally sustainable energy sources. The maintenance and repairs of the solar installations will be carried out by trained health centre and school committees consisting of village people. Information on the renewable energy and installations will be broadcasted via community radio and during the municipality action day. Project beneficiaries include over 3000 school pupils and pregnant women using the heath centre services. The project implementor is the Malian NGO ?uvre Malienne d'Aide à la Femme et à l'Enfant au Sahel (OMAFES).

In this project, the Dougaboug...ou and Sagabala village health centers in Sagabala municipality in Mali will be solar powered and equipped with freezers. The members of the heath centre administrative committees will be trained to use the solar installations. Two local technicians will be trained and equipped for the maintenance and repairs of the equipment. During the project, local people will be also informed about climate change and it?s impacts. The project benefits the population in the operational areas of health centres, altogether almost 15,000 people. The project implementor is the Malian NGO Association de Soutien aux Initiatives Communautaires (ASIC).
