|
Project further educates the 4...0 young indigenous peoples representatives that the organization have capacitated earlier about the cultural and legal rights of the indigenous peoples in order them to better defend those rights and take possible injustices to the legal instance. The education concentrates especially on questions of land law rights and right of access to health care. Educating the indigenous peoples own representatives to defend their rights serves the aim of spreading the knowledge and multiplication of effects among the communities. Furthermore empowerment enables better monitoring detection and following-up of violations of the rights. Also representatives of three different indigenous peoples organizations are capacitated on these issues. As well a situation report about the state of the indigenous peoples rights and legal problems encountered by the communities will be published to increase awareness in the whole society and to enhance the implementation of the legal rights.

Development Programme for Roma... Community. The Development Programme for the Roma Community seeks to address the needs of this marginalized people group through building up the capacity of a local partner for community development. Marginalized from the society, the 15 000 Roma in the Tuzla region, live in poverty. Fida partners with Tuzla Evangelical Church, to address the needs and challenges of this people group that is among the most disadvantaged in Bosnia. Fida and its partner work together in the Roma communities, thus providing the partner with practical training in community development. The main approach of the programme is that of community health education and such activities as women's home groups, awareness-raising events and health check-ups for children form a major part of the work. The programme also includes child sponsorship. Through the practical development work carried out as part of the programme in the Roma communities, the partner gains increased capacity for community development and establishes a long-term partnership with the Roma communities involved. The Roma communities, in turn, gain knowledge and skills that help them in becoming the main actors in their own development. These two together will contribute to the overall improvement of the quality of life of the Roma.

F.a: HOPE FOR A BETTER FUTURE ...FOR THE VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND YOUTH
more
|
The goal of the Cambodia Count...ry Programme is to contribute to the increase of justice, human dignity and peace. This is achieved through strengthening the fulfillment of childrens rights for health, education and adequate standards of living. In addition to the work at the community level, the Programme aims to increase the partners, Assemblies of God Cambodia, ability to bring change in advocating for the rights of the children. Special attention has been given to the most vulnerable people, such as people with disabilities, girls and women, and the sustainable development of the environment.##The Programme consists of integrated development programmes, focusing on least developed rural villages, and an urban youth programme, working with the vulnerable youth in cities. The Programme has the potential of impacting the lives of vulnerable children and youth nationwide. The Programme aims to bring about change in the lives of almost 28 000 direct and 50 000 indirect beneficiaries. The implementing actors of the Programme are Fida International, a local NGO, Cambodia Global Action and the Assemblies of God Cambodia along with its numerous local parishes and national youth department.##The integrated community development work carried out in the villages focuses on training VDCs on issues such as preventative health, agriculture and livelihood, food security and childrens rights. In addition to this families are taught in the communities, such as building wells, water filters, home gardens, compost pits and latrines. Through youth centers, the vulnerable youth in urban contexts are provided facilities and opportunities for building social relationships, strengthening self-esteem, obtaining new skills and learning about issues, such as the effects of substance abuse, sexual health and life skills. Youth centers also cooperate with local high schools and parents and leaders.##As a result of the work, the Programme expects to see change in the level of health, education and living standards of the vulnerable children and youth. Increasing the knowledge regarding preventative health and level of livelihood and food security of vulnerable families results in the decrease of sicknesses and increase of opportunities for education, safe childhood and a hopeful future for children. Increased awareness among youth regarding socially important issues accompanied with strengthened relationships and self-esteem provide a platform for making healthier decision.

Project activities are non-for...mal education for ethnic minorities especially women and children, producing educational material on basic health care and hygienie, culture preserving activities and indigenous livelihoods development. The ethnic minority groups of Cambodia have had very little chances to access the services, information and power in khmer-dominated Cambodia. Currently the natural resources of the minorities are exploited by powerful companies without communities themselves having much to say. The indigenous groups have the right to bi-lingual education and information, as well as preservation of their culture. The project aims to help the communities to address the social problems and to cope with the changing environment while empowered by improved literacy and knowledge. Communities have strategies to cope with changes and resist exploitation and discrimination. The beneficiaries are indigenous groups in North-east of Cambodia, especially children and elderlies. The implementing partner is International Cooperation Cambodia ICC.

The purpose of the programme i...s to empower Public Health Personnel in project areas to provide more comprehensive environmental and public health services to the community. Fida's partner in this project is the Dali Prefecture Health Department and the Er Yuan County Government. The partners have offices and officials (environment protection, education, health, women's bureaus; agriculture, forest departments, etc.) at prefecture, county and village levels. Fida has been working in the region together with the local staff and foreign experts since 1998. The project will provide Community Health Education and Development (CHED) training to the environmental and public health departments, as well as directly to the village level trough students and teachers at the local school. Training increases the knowledge on the effects of waste in the environment, and provides tools for creating more comprehensive environmental health management strategies. Evidence-based medical practice and participatory training for doctors, nurses and healthcare administrators working in rural communities will also be continued. The current participants from township clinics will be future trainers of village doctors. The majority of the trainees and villagers belong to ethnic minorities. The goal of the programme is to achieve measurable improvements in environmental and health conditions in the project areas, and to provide the local people with tools to enable them to provide better environmental and public health conditions in the local communities.

Health lessons are part of tea...ching curriculum, but there are no substantively and culturally appropriate materials and methods to teach effectively. Students begin to have decayed teeth already at 5 years of age, due to lack of knowledge and brushing habits. The diarrheal sicknesses are also very common among students. The teachers face challenge how to get the health messages through, how to encourage good habits for better health as the children grow. One teacher from each village Kindergarten and Primary School is taught to use child friendly teaching methods in health education classes. The topics include participatory teaching methods, oral care, harms of smoking and good hygiene. Each teacher receives lesson plan books and a set of teaching materials. After teaching health lessons, teachers give each student dental care set. The older students receive smoking experiment kit / awareness rising kit to take home as well. The project goal is increased quality of life among rural communities of Kashgar through improved disease prevention knowledge and practises. The project purpose is improved health in rural communities through health education among school students, community members and Mother-Child Care Department. 450 – 500 teachers have been trained who continuously teach health lessons to 200 000 – 250 000 students. These students share the information with their families, reaching up to 750 000 community members' increased health awareness. The project beneficiaries include School teachers, village Kindergarten and Primary School students and their families. Fida partners with Kashgar Prefectural Health Bureau (KHB), the Government Department in Health System, in the project.

|
The target area is in the Repu...blic of Congo department of Niari Moutamba District in the village of Tsimba and its surrounding smaller villages Titi Mabafi Itsotso and Koumoutsanga/Mouvouenzé. The area is in a vast rainforest where intensive logging has been going on for some years. The indigenous people (pygmies) has suffered from the logging industry. Their traditional areas of living have been cut for timber. The indigenous people traditionally a nomadic food-gatherer tribe have had to settle down in the surroundings of Tsimba where they are not welcomed by the bantou people and are exploited in many ways. The indigenous people live in poverty and children rarely go to school. The 3-year project aims at promoting the rights of children in the target communities especially those of the local indigenous population. The project will concentrate on the children?s right to education but also the rights to clean water and healthy life and the right to an identity will be addressed. The project's overall objective is to assure that the rights of indigenous people?s children to education and good health is fulfilled.Final beneficiaries: a) Rights holders: the children (both indigenous and bantou) in the villages. b) Duty-bearers: district officials (education health youth & sports and social sectors) teachers and parents.Goals:1. The quality of education has improved in the project locations.2. The indigenous people and bantous live together peacefully.3. The rights of children (both indigenous and bantou) to health care and clean water are fulfilled in the project locations.4. Local authorities and other duty-bearers are familiar with indigenous people's and childrens' rights and work for their improvement.Activities: 1) material support (school uniforms school material) for indigenous school children 2) refurbishing of schools 3) material support and training for teachers 4) trainings on human rights for both rights holders and duty-bearers 5) building a deep well 6) health and hygiene campaigns 7) establishing a Learning and Media Center and 8) supporting the collaboration of different local actors.Regarding the crosscutting objectives of development policy this project works mainly for reduction of inequality between the indigenous people and bantous and the improvement of gender equality. Gender equality is improved through e.g. assuring that both girls and boys get access to schools.

A DIGNIFIED LIFE FOR ALL!
|
A dignified life for all!
|
The vision and main target of ...the FS Global program is to provide people with opportunities for a dignified life where all people are equal and where human rights are respected. We want to reach this goal through the activities of the program by contributing to improved living conditions for people and to a change of attitudes in societies. FS Global wants to work for health and education for all people in a world characterized by democratic values and sustainable living. Our task is to help poor and marginalized people to achieve improved living conditions. We accomplish this by strengthening local organizations and their skills and by doing so we want to influence the local civil society. We also help poor and marginalized people by helping these organizations support groups and individuals. Through collaboration with both individuals and local actors we want to contribute good values.Through our program we want to contribute to a world that is more fair equal and democratic with better public health reduced poverty and a world that promotes human rights. Through education people are given employment and income-generating opportunities which leads to reduced poverty. Fair educational systems where girls boys and people with disabilities have equal opportunities in education promote human rights and independence and offer possibilities of choice and influence in their individual lives. People have enhanced initiative and an awareness that they can influence their own situation and thereby be able to exit poverty. We want to contribute to better public health especially among mothers and children for example through traditional health care but also by educating people on health and hygiene. Through preventive health care improved diets and eating habits we want to raise health awareness to make people less dependent on outside help as their own health improves. When people's living conditions improve they can experience dignity and also be met with respect in their own context.

Community Health Awareness and... NGOs Capacity Development. The programme focuses on improving the capacity of local NGOs to carry out sustainable community development work. Fida's main partners in the programme are Christian Practical Service Society and Dorcas Aid International but also new cooperation partners are joining the programme. Fida's role in the programme is to empower local NGOs through training and provision of materials. The practical development work in local communities, however, is done by the partners independently. Through the programme the local NGO's are equipped with skills and know-how for carrying out sustainable development work. As their work in the local communities expands and becomes more sustainable and effective, the local communities, in turn, will be empowered.

more
|
The purpose of the Project is ...to strengthen the partner's ability to respond to the needs of orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) and to improve the socio-economical status of families in Bishoftu Town. In the project, Fida partners with Ethiopian Full Gospel Believers' Church Development Organization that has been the implementer of the project as of January 2014. Fida and the partner work together with government officials. The beneficiaries of the project are selected together with the concerned government bodies, and the activities are planned together with all stakeholders. The project assists families financially through family sponsorship activities and helps them find a constant source of income. This creates a basis for more sustainable development. The beneficiaries' children and youth are encouraged to be educated in primary and secondary schools, and to also continue to higher education. Families' living conditions are improved through renovating their houses, kitchens, latrines etc. Beneficiaries will be regularly trained in topics related to health: sanitation, hygiene, mental care, family planning and HIV/AIDS. Training on income generating activities will also be given. Literacy training will be organized for illiterate adults. Supported families work two days per week in the project. The development objective of the project is to contribute to the wellbeing of people groups in Bishoftu. The project has gone through many changes; the Children's home –model has been changed to a non-institutionalised model where families are supported in their own communities. Through family based development, the project has been able to reach more families and children, who can live and grow in their own culture, ethnic group and background. This is a better and more normal foundation for life. Nowadays, Children who have grown in Children's Home are adults, who are able to make their own living after receiving vocational training.

The overall effect of these interventions is to reduce the problem of long term food insecurity and improve the living standard of people with in the target communities. The goal of the third phase is to contribute to the livelihood improvement in the target communities through improved health status potable water supply and enhanced agriculture production and household income level. |
The project aims at preventing... different diseases and preserving life and living conditions. The objectives are implemented through awareness raising and health education methods. Based on a survey done in Amaro and Wonago area in South Ethiopia, the people have health problems that are mainly caused by poor hygiene, lack of proper sanitation and lack of equipment and medicines at health stations. In the project area there are about 70 000 people. The staff of health stations will be given additional training on community based health work, so that they can better be equipped to train members of the local communities. Training will be given among others on hiv&aids, nutrition, hygiene, harmful traditions, reproductive health, sexual health. Public latrines will be constructed in the area and the community members will be trained to build latrines in their own compounds. The availability of medicines will be improved and vital equipment for the health stations will be purchased. The beneficiaries of the project are the people living in Bulito, Sharo and Kele 02 Kebeles in Amaro Woreda, and in Hasse Haro, Mekonisa and Sokicha Kebeles in Wonago Woreda. The implementing agency is the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus / Development and Social Services Commission central office (EECMY-DASSC) in Addis Ababa.
