ESC rights are fulfilled uneve...nly across the country and between different population groups, and in particular the most vulnerable groups are affected by the situation. The project aims to challenge the state through the media and litigation as well as non-governmental organization campaigning to be responsible of the health system failures. The aim is also to increase awareness of the rights of health in the grass-roots level, and to empower people to demand the implementation of their rights. The representatives of the media will be capacitated especially health and intellectual property issues. The idea is that journalists would report based on facts of the rights and the challenges of health issues.Center for Health, Human Rights and Development CEHURD was established in 2007 and registered in December 2009. It works in the health-related rights and public health legislation. CEHURDin activities focus on the most vulnerable groups such as women, children, orphans, sexual minorities, HIV-positive, disabled people and refugees. www.cehurd.org

YMCA - Empowering Young Palest...inian Women with Disabilities to Access their Rights
more
|
Persons with disabilities (PWD...) are among the most socially excluded and vulnerable people in the Palestinian society with very poor living conditions. They face multiple deprivations including high levels of poverty lack of access to basic services such as education and health lack of voice and accountability and persistent stigma and discrimination. most of the PWD do not know their specific rights as citizens with disability nor do their families or communities. This causes a vicious circle; while PWD and their communities are unaware of their rights they are not demanding the implementation of the law ? in health social services education transportation and employment among others. Decision makers continue to lack an understanding of their needs and both the law and strategy remain unenforced. The project will contribute towards enhancing social inclusion and participation of young women with disabilities in the Palestinian Society it will target the most marginalized women with physical disability in the West Bank merge it into the following 6 groups of districts: East Jerusalem Bethlehem and Jericho Ramallah Nablus & Salfit Tulkarem & Qaliqilya Jenin & Tubas Hebron. A special focus will be given to young women with disabilities from remote areas areas C and the surrounding villages of the above districts underserved or unserved areas where the Palestinian Authority is providing limited social services. The project will follow a twin track approach. On one hand it will work on building the capacity of YWPD to influence attitudes practices and decision making processes in local and national government to protect the rights of young women living with disabilities and to call for effective implementation of the National Disability Strategy (NDS) and ensure that it will not lose its energy with a specific focus on Strategic Approach 3 4 and 6 of the ?National Strategic Plan of the Disability Sector in the OPT 2012?. On the other hand the project will identify the required steps to facilitate the access of YWPDs to education health employment and training opportunities; that will include enhancing their vocational and technical capacities enhance their mobility and physical conditions to ensure that they are empowered and enabled to participate on an equal basis with others.

Violence in Chad and conflicts... in neighbouring countries that have led to current and earlier displacements together with natural disasters and food insecurity and lack of health services have resulted a critical humanitarian situation regionally. There are about 390 000 refugees 110 000 internally displaced persons as well as 93 000 returnees in Chad. Refugees originate mainly from Sudan Central African Republic and Nigeria. The protracted refugee situation puts a strain on the resilience of the local communities and the food security situation is difficult. The UNHCR operations are focused on the livelihoods support of the IDPs ensuring free movement for refugees in Chad and strengthening the capacity and infrastructure of the public education and health systems.

The aim of the project is to r...esearch international e-healthcare education markets potential competition in those markets identify the suitable markets and partners for the purpose of this project as well as to pilot the service offered by Skhole and to collect feedback. The project consists of separate tasks. It is first necessary to research the needs and potential of the target markets and to identify suitable partner organisations active in those markets. On the basis of the market research piloting and licensing can begin in the chosen markets. This entails the instruction and training of local partners regarding i.a. the features and content of the service offered by Skhole as well as sales strategies. JJVS will strive to support th...e Forest Rights Act (FRA) implementation from grassroot level to regional & state level. The work includes providing hand holding support in the processes relating to FRA claim recognition and submitting community claims. The project also aims at strengthening local institutions (like the Gram Sabha, Forest Rights Committees and Biodiversity Management Committees) for management of FRA areas. For further strengthening of the NAA West Zone Network half yearly meeting and annual meeting with zonal partners will be organized, leading to capacity building of the zonal partners. Enabling local communities through awareness raising and strengthening of community institutions is a core idea of the project. The intent of the project is to establish inter institutional linkages for effective implementation of new legal community governance provisions at grassroot level because the relevant legislation is strongly interconnected. Additionally, the project aims at expanding initiatives related to Traditional Health System. Documentation of health practices of existing Gunis (healers), identification of new Gunis along with their capacity building will help the tribal community in Rajasthan and other NAA Partner states to get access to affordable and sustainable primary health services at local level. Furthermore, the project will provide improved livelihood opportunity for Gunis. The proposed activities have been identified from the suggestions received from local community, institutions, individuals and organisations. www.jagranjan.org

As women and children are key stakeholders of the project, at least 50% active participation of women on community level consultation is expected, and gender sensitivity in reporting and recommendations will be stressed.Efforts of LWF will further address the particular issues which are part of their work in the project areas to channel bottom up the voice of the rights-holders (communities) themselves on the following themes:• Land rights, livelihoods and food security, particularly land grabbing and confiscations, as well as forced evictions.• Community health• Human rights and gender justice• Disaster risk preparedness• Building up community-based structures to address development challengesImplementing partner: Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Myanmar.

We participate in the Connecti...vity from Finland program organized by Finpro. The purpose of the program is establish partnerships in countries such as Kenya South-Africa and Nigeria. Our focus is on finding actors in digital business in target countries that have an interest in licensing our technology. The local partner may productize the technology with their own brand pricing and features to optimally adapt the solution to the local conditions. Thus we provide partnerships with long-term impact with the opportunity for our local partners to significantly grow their business in a sustainable manner. At the same time our purpose is to further enhance the use of our technology with NGOs. Our technology is currently used by many NGOs in various application areas such as health care child protection agricultural development and disaster recovery. We will also pursue opportunities in the government sector in particular in child and environmental protection. Our solution has for instance been used for several years in the Kilifi county in Kenya for reporting child abuse cases and there are currently plans to expand the use nationwide via the relevant ministry.

FINNPARTNERSHIP: PILOTING RESE...ARCHING AND EXECUTING MEDICAL OXYGEN GENERATOR COLLABORATION IN KENYA
more
|
Finnpartnership: Piloting Rese...arching and Executing Medical Oxygen Generator Collaboration in Kenya
more
|
Executing medical oxygen pilot... generator unit project with local private hospital in Kenya and establishing a joint venture regarding the medical oxygen generator units as well as research linked to the venture. Also etablishing long term service contact agreements with local operator and providing adequate training to operate the generator units. The joint venture models which will be explored are; opening an assembly line in Kenya in collaboration with a local partner and a leasing model for the generators where Laser Gas and a local partner would own the generator units install them at local healthcare facilities and charge the healthcare operators based on the produced oxygen. When the hospital doesn't own the generator unit and only pays for the oxygen produced by it the unit's supplier's motivation to maintain the unit's performance will remain high. Laser Gas is also the only medical oxygen generator manufacturer that has a mobile medical oxygen unit built on a trailer that can be easily towed with a vehicle and be also used to fill oxygen cylinders on-site as well. This innovation could present a local entrepreneur an opportunity to build a business around the mobile unit. In this case even one local entrepreneur could serve several local hospitals and replenish their medical oxygen supply very flexibly on-site and thus secure their medical oxygen supply which otherwise would be dependent on deliveries. A major advantage of the Laser Gas's generators is their modular design which means that their capacity can be doubled or even tripled very cost efficiently. Thus the healthcare providers don't need to buy anymore a completely new generator unit in order to increase their medical oxygen production capacity. This means that the healthcare providers can develop their services and increase the number of their beds without the fear of having to invest to a completely new and often costly generator unit. Laser Gas's compressors and generators level of domesticity is 50-60% and they have the only oilless compressors in Finland.

F.a: The value of real synergi...es in legal rights, constitutional obligations and civil society activism
more
|
The project seeks to strengthe...n the implementation of an advanced legal decision. It challenges the state to take responsibility of the abuses in health care system through strategic litigation and Civil society activism. This project is conceptualised to directly benefit the vulnerable. The implementation of the judgement aims to benefit the vulnerable women who may lose children in hospitals and children who may end up being sold into families they do not belong to biologically. It is a social justice project looking at indigent persons with no capacity to engage the centres of power in case of human rights violations happening in the health care setting. The human rights approach adopted in the project, aims to guarantee the application of the principle of non-discrimination, participation and rule of law. This is premised in the right to health elements of availability, accessibility, acceptability and quality of health services goods and facilities.

REVES: Peer Learning Project i...n West Africa strengthens the civil societies in Mauritania and Senegal by bringing together two development actors working with similar issues, the LWFs ICPD programme and the Lutheran Church of Senegals PROSAF II project. In addition, a special component has been created for capacity building. The purpose of capacity building and peer learning is to reinforce the partner organisations in project management and increase their thematic knowledge in climate change adaptation and income generation as well as sharing experiences, best practices and innovation. Possibilities for networking and collaboration of civil society actors between the two countries is strengthened. In Mauritania, almost half of the population lives under the poverty line. Over 40 000 people still live in slavery and ex-slaves are discriminated in the society. In addition, political instability and human rights violations deepen the poverty situation. Mauritania suffers from the impacts of climate change and therefore the project aims at building climate resilience and preparedness for disasters for the most vulnerable people. Through the project activities food security is improved, trainings are organised in agriculture and entrepreneurship, environmental protection is improved, and micro credits are provided to generate better income for people in the project areas. Communities are also trained and equipped in peace building and work against injustice in society. In Mauritania the project advances the rights of discriminated and marginalized women and ethnic minorities. In Senegal the project advances the rights of women, girls, and ethnic minorities. The project area is a remote and poor area in Foundiougne, Senegal where soil is heavily salinized and food security is a challenge. Services for people with disabilities are limited and social and health sector infrastructure is weak. The project aims at improving the productivity of agriculture through better water management, training in agriculture and environmental management as well as by establishing demonstration gardens. Income generation possibilities for women and people with disabilities are improved as well as access to better health care services. Environmental education is provided in schools and in the communities.

An integrated community projec...t based on the model household concept with ten objectives aimed at promoting good health, education, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, environmental protection and community solidarity. The concept is based on the training of Red Cross volunteers to promote behavioral change and thus to prevent key health problems. To support change, the Red Cross builds toilets in schools, drinking water in villages, and builds houses for the poorest families. Burundi Red Cross is a long term partner and a key humanitarian actor in the country.

EQUIPPING THE PWD'S TO IMPROVE... THEIR SOCIAL STATUS IN HOMA BAY COUNTY KENYA

Equipping the PWD's to improve... their social status in Homa Bay County Kenya
more
|
ADRA Finland's development coo...peration is aiming to improve the conditions of persons living with disability and the community around them. The work is done within the CBR framework (Community Based Rehabilitation) and is ongoing in Homabay County in Kenya. Adra has implemented several CBR initiatives in the area. Some with its own funding. Formin has funded a PWD health project in 2012-2013 a Livelihood project in 2014-2016 extension of livelihood project for the year 2017-2018 and also two baseline studies. The population of PWDs in Homa Bay County has high share compared to other counties in the country. Exact numbers are not available since only a few of the PWD.s are registered. The baseline studies show that the capacity and capability of the PWDs to organize themselves and to drive their rights is limited. This proposal aims in a logical way to continue the goal oriented five step CBR-program and to take it through its final stage. The program would also support and strengthen the impact and sustainability of the previous stages. The final objective for the proposed project is to improve the quality of life for persons with disability by strengthening their ability to bring their case in relation to the surrounding community the local authorities and decision makers. The results of this advocacy program will be achieved by the three central objectives.1. Empowerment of PWD.s to understand their rights and the importance in participating in disability organizations and other organized community activities. 2. Empowerment of the communities to understand the rights of PWD.s and to accept them just as able bodied members of the community. 3. Increased awareness within the local public services of the rights of PWD.s and improved services to them. The project implementation is about training empowerment and giving tools to the PWD.s and their representatives for influencing their situation. Having operated in the region for a number of years implementing the CBR matrix the proposed project will be the last component of the matrix. It will empower the persons with disability and the community to advocate for the rights of persons with disability

Quick Impact Projects in Leban...on support the development of local communities in Southern Lebanon and thereby enhance the trust between the UNIFIL troops and the local population which is essential in order to provide a favorable operational environment for the troops. The UNIFIL troops seek ensuring stability in the area. Southern Lebanon continues to suffer from the damages caused by the 2006 conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The overall situation in Lebanon is difficult since the country is in a compounded economic and political crisis worsened by the pandemic and Beirut blast of 4 August. The country hosts some 15 million Syrian refugees which also has an impact on the overall situation in the country. The QIP projects have allowed enhancing the trust between the troops and the local communities and at the same time for instance for improving access to water and waste management as well as the situation of vulnerable groups. In 2021-22 the focus will be in health care burdened by corona pandemic schools and kindergartens as well as waste management water purification and other infrastructure projects. Education and recreational activities will be continued. Some projects are planned and implemented in collaboration with the French CIMIC. Projects are identified and implemented by the Finnish UNIFIL troops following the Quick Implementation Project guidance of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Finnish contribution to QIP projects is 100 000 Euros per year for 2021-2022.

|
F.a: Formalizing Informal Work... in the Health Sector
more
|
The objective of the project i...s to improve the rights, working conditions and job security of the female volunteer workers in the health care sector in Nepal. The trade unions mobilizing the volunteer health workers have created a joint trade union platform, in order to jointly reinforce the mass power and strengthen the identity as real workers who deserve the benefits and remuneration for the tasks they perform. The weak situation of the volunteers will be raised into the national debate and people's consciousness. The long-term aim of the project is to ensure that volunteer health workers are recognized as permanent public employees. In Nepal, there are 50 000 volunteer health workers, who do life-saving priceless work in communities under the Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) -program. Their working terms are highly informal, despite the fact, that their work is to produce regular and vital public health services. The group of FCHVs represent the single largest segment of informal public services workers in Nepal. These women do not get any salary, only some of their work expenses are reimbursed, and they are economically in a very vulnerable position. The FCHVs do regular and vital work that saves lives of mothers and infants in rural areas, without any benefits of a normal employee status. As a result of the project, the unions create a joint charter of demands. Based on the charter and a baseline study conducted in 2017, an advocacy campaign to formalize the employment of the FCHVs is launched. A large part of the health volunteers work in rural areas and for that reason the information sharing and union communication will be extended geographically to cover also rural areas. Trade union leaders and activists are trained in strategic planning, campaigning and labor legislation. The project benefits the female community health workers of Nepal. The project is implemented by Public Services International (PSI) together with its member unions HEPON, NEVA and ANWHVWU.

F.a: Increasing access of loca...l people to public resources and govt. services/entitlements in regards to education, food and health in Nepal

Referring to the recently form...ed Federal Structural Governmental in Nepal, the project entitled Increasing access of local people especially disadvantaged groups to public resources and govt. services/entitlements in regards to education, food and health in Nepal intends to make local people including women and indigenous people aware of the economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights alongside capacitating the newly elected local bodies on the issues. This helps in sensitizing the authorities to be more responsible towards the issues on public service delivery mechanism and existing issues need to address in changing structure and context, concerns with the local people. The project focuses on monitoring the local and provincial government's action plan and guidelines, services delivery mechanism, if they are in line with the human rights based approach or not and also regarding their proper and effective implementation. The local governments have been granted sweeping powers both in terms of budget and the decision making powers. However, there is also a risk of such powers being abused as we have seen irregularities involving the all-party mechanisms in the past. With the project's initiative of capacitating both the local people and elected members, the project aims to minimize such risk and make the local government strengthen inter-relations among the federation, province and local level by distributing the resources and means judiciously. The newly elected representatives especially the judicial committees will be capacitated to demonstrate efficient leadership by engaging citizens and local people in the development activities so as to develop a sense of ownership in local decision making and service delivery. This way, the project initiatives expect to enhance the relationship between right holder and duty bearers at the local and provincial level aiming to protect the fundamental human rights of the people.

The project supports WHR's wor...k towards the SDG of ''achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, as well as promoting just, peaceful and inclusive societies. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable society. Providing women with equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes will fuel sustainable economies and benefit societies and humanity at large. By offering awareness and practical knowledge about the existing law and legal aid provisions to single women, as well as enhancing their ability to communicate with service providers to claim their rights, the project will lead towards greater economic, political and social empowerment for single women. Furthermore, the existing women's network will be strengthened by raising the women's capacity through educating, promoting and mobilising peace cadres to act as focal persons for single women to seek information and advice, as well support them to unite and organise themselves to play an active role within peacebuilding and social justice and to become change agents and role models in their communities, by confidently collaborating with local stakeholders and the government to access their rights. http://whr.org.np/
