The purpose of the project is ...to combat sexual harassment by sensitizing women about their rights as well as practical means with which to counter harassment. Main activities of the project consist of organizing seminars for 90 women in the area of Akkar in Rabat. The trainers in the seminars will be lawyers social workers and experts from the NGO itself. Boys and young men will also receive education on the rights of women as a part of the project. Violence against women and sexual harassment are serious problems in Morocco and a long term grassroots approach to change attitudes is essential and the project builds on a previous project realized by the NGO with UN Women. The activities of the project also include producing educational material on women's rights as well as providing a possibility for daycare for women with family in order for them to be able to participate in the seminars.

The relevance of the topic of ...harrassment of women is that the laws of the country or other procedural norms - not only term harrasment is missing but also its definition. Thus the right to personal freedom and non-implication in the workplace is not protected. This leads to the fact that this right is violated but the perpetrators do not bear any responsibility for this. The project will consist of conducting quantative and qualitative research on the topic of harrassment in the workplace as well as conducting an advocacy campaign. The course will be conducted during the winter time when most of the women are on holidays from the cotton picking and/or from Russia. The project will be implemented by an expert who has implemented similar project successfully in Kazakhstan in 2017. The project will take six months.

|
The impact of World Vision Fin...land's Child Rights Programme is ?Sustained well-being of children within families and communities especially the most vulnerable?. Sustainable development and empowerment are in the core of the work. The planning work has involved the partners and it is building on the experience gained in previous programmes and learnings from recent evaluations. The projects and working areas in the Programme have been selected through consideration of the MFA:s policies and priorities strategies and focus areas for WVF and the National Offices and the most pressing challenges in child well-being in the partner countries. The Programme has three focus areas, Child Protection Youth Employment and Disability Inclusion that will be implemented in 10 long-term Area Programmes 19 Special Projects and 5 Weconomy Projects. In the target country the partner is always the national World Vision office that has extensive experience wide networks and good contacts with the local government.Being part of the large WVI Partnership WVF benefits from professional assistance and advice in making strategic choices and in implementing innovative special projects. Some examples of WVF innovations are the gender indicators disability inclusion and involving the private sector in development. These practices have been replicated by UN agencies and local governments.Advocacy communications and fundraising work builds on the development programmes using stories challenges and advocacy issues rising from the field. To solve the challenges in the developing countries new innovations and partners are needed and therefore there will be extended cooperation with the private sector academia and other NGOs in the new Programme period.Changes in the global situation are reflected in the selection of new countries in the Programme. The LDC.s and fragile states are represented as work has been started in Cambodia Rwanda and the Kurdistan region of Iraq Syria Lebanon and Jordan. The Child Rights Programme continues in India Kenya and Uganda while sponsorship programmes in Columbia Peru and Sri Lanka will be funded through private sponsorship.

The International Solidarity F...oundation (ISF) is a Finnish development organization founded in 1970. We have a vision of a world where no women suffer from violence and nobody lives in poverty. We implement our vision through our development cooperation programme by supporting ecologically and economically sustainable livelihoods and women?s rights. The objectives of our programme are: ? Local economies are dynamic and ecologically sustainable ? Women and men are empowered to prevent violence against women? People and communities are empowered as instigators of global changeThe 2018-2021 programme seeks to reduce violence against women and girls. It thereby increases women?s potential in society particularly in the economy and development of local communities. Our operating model solves root causes of poverty effectively: we empower local economies by building ecologically sustainable agriculture small businesses and alternative livelihoods in Somaliland Kenya and Nicaragua. Our programme has some 215000 beneficiaries of which 54% are women. ISF?s willingness to invest in fragile areas is emphasized in our programme: the largest portion of our budget is devoted for climate change adaptation development of new livelihoods and reducing violence against women in Somaliland. Our work in Somaliland complements and supports Finnish strategic priorities in Somalia. The overall budget for our 4-year programme is 12208000 euros. We request 2 million annually from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland (8 million in total or 655% of the budget). We implement our programme primarily through partner-driven development projects and multi-channeled communication and advocacy in Finland. We also do advocacy work at the international level and in the EU through partner networks.

F.A: MY BODY. MY FUTURE.
|
F.a: My body. My future.
|
The overarching objective of t...his Programme is to empower girls aged 10?19 to decide about their bodies and lives in societies where gender equality is realised. We seek to support girls? capacity to influence the relationships and social conditions that affect them especially with regard to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). In dialogue with boys and men we will also address the root causes of gender inequality in communities and societies. Our Theory of Change is based on three elements: 1) shifting social norms attitudes and behaviours on issues such as child marriage female genital mutilation and the value of girls? education, 2) achieving a more equal distribution of resources and safety nets within families and communities, and 3) influencing policy frameworks budgets and capacities of local authorities. In this way we improve the daily condition of girls while also advancing their position and value in society. The Programme will strengthen the capacities of civil society for free and autonomous civic action. We will open up channels of influence to people and communities on issues of gender equality SRHR and girls? rights while strengthening the abilities of duty bearers to perform better.?My Body. My Future.? will mainly take place in Ethiopia Uganda Mozambique Laos Myanmar and Finland. The projects are based on a coherent results framework with four outcome areas reflected in each project. An allocation is also made for a corporate engagement project in Pakistan. The project in Finland will focus on program and development communication and on promoting global citizenship education for young people. Overall the Programme will reach directly an estimated 589000 people more than half of whom are young people. This includes vulnerable groups such as ethnic minorities and people with disabilities. The Programme involves a total of fifteen partners with various roles and expertise. We will also work closely with informal associations and youth groups. A real asset of our partners and Plan is the high degree of trust that we hold with communities ? an essential element when addressing sensitive issues such as sexuality.

|
F.a: Save the Children Finland... Global Programme 2018-21
more
|
The 5-Year Program 2017-21 wil...l focus on fragile states and the most vulnerable children especially girls and ethnic minorities. Gender equality enhancing child participation and especially girl participation disaster preparedness and strengthening of civil society are Save the Children Finland?s cross-cutting themes. Our programme focuses in two themes child protection (CP) and child poverty. The aim is to enhance access and quality of these services. In child protection we emphasize the development of CP structures which support children and families receiving quality services in a timely manner. We support families and caretakers so they can better take care of their children. We seek to influence decision-makers and authorities so that CP issues are taken into account in legislation and implementation.Save the Children Finland aims to strengthen national and local CP structures. When these are functioning properly they reduce the vulnerability of children and protect children from various risks (child trafficking harmful work violence and exploitation child marriage). The aim is to strengthen cooperation between all stakeholders involved in child protection authorities local and international organizations and sectors and develop services with them. Investments in the well-being and social security of children and their families will contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals and reduce the financial vulnerability of poor people.Save the Children Finland aims to enhance the opportunities for households living in extreme poverty to use the existing government social protection schemes by raising awareness among parents and caregivers and by training authorities. We are working at national level to collaborate with other organizations on behalf of a more child-friendly social security policy. The project partners will receive capacity building on child sensitivity. As a third intervention area we will also invest in the involvement of the private sector in development co-operation and private sector activities by promoting child rights and business principles through liaising with corporates.

During the last few years the ...Government of Egypt acknowledged that trafficking in Egypt is a multi-faceted challenge that must be addressed in an integrated manner and counter trafficking activities are gathering momentum. A National Coordinating Committee on Preventing (NCCP) and Combating Human Trafficking was established 2010 to collaborate with all governmental and non-governmental agencies working in the field of Human Trafficking. In addition the ground breaking comprehensive anti-trafficking law 64 was issued in 2010. This Law not only criminalizes the offence of trafficking but also provides for the appropriate protective measures for victims. In December 2010 all these efforts culminated in the development of a National Plan of Action Against Human Trafficking. This Plan of Action is a comprehensive project aimed at combating trafficking through partnership and joint collaborations. This project seeks to contribute to reducing the rate of trafficking in women and girls through combating the causes leading to it in the areasof Aboul-Nomros El-Hawamdeya and El-Badrashin in Giza?.With this regard the project will work on the following objectives:1. Improving the economic conditions of actual and potential victims of trafficking and their families2. Improving the educational and psychological status of actual and potential victims of trafficking

F.A: ENSURING DIGNIFIED LIVELI...HOOD OPPORTUNITIES FOR FLOWER FARM WORKERS
more
|
F.a: Ensuring dignified liveli...hood opportunities for flower farm workers
more
|
Ethiopia is the second largest... flower exporter in Africa after Kenya. The sunny tropical climate and its varying landscape allows production of a wide variety of flower species throughout the year. Also, availability of water, low costs of production, macro-economic stability and government incentives have motivated the move of large flower firms to Ethiopia.Ethiopia lacks a minimum wage and wages paid by the flower sector are very low. National minimum wage would provide a benchmark for negotiations allowing trade unions to enhance terms and conditions of employees beyond provided legal minimums. However, trade unions in horticultural sector in Ethiopia have limited capacity to undertake their representative functions. High labour turnover has significant influence on levels of unionization in the sector. Inadequate workers' participation and involvement in decision making and activities of the unions, compounded with fear of job loss, mean that workers cannot influence issues that affect their employment life. Flower plantation work is more a female-dominated profession in Ethiopia than most other agricultural work. Female workers' situation is very fragile with gender-based violence and poor job security. Awareness on gender issues remains low, especially how to identify and deal with gender-based violence. The overall objective of the project is to create dignified livelihood opportunities for flower farm workers in Ethiopia. The purpose of the project is improved terms, conditions and rights for workers. The project is empowering workers in 6 flower farms in Ethiopia with total of almost 20.000 workers as final beneficiaries. Slightly over 77% of these rights-holders are women. The project's expected outputs are improved relations at workplaces, trade unions' increased capacity, agents for gender equality, enhanced occupational health & safety practices and improved work opportunities for people with disabilities. The project is implemented by Fairtrade Africa in collaboration Confederation of Ethiopian Trade Union, Ethiopian Centre for Disability and Development and Ethiopian Horticulture Producers' Exporters Association. http://www.fairtradeafrica.net/

F.A: CHILD RIGHTS AND PROTECTI...ON IN COCOA GROWING COMMUNITIES IN GHANA
more
|
F.a: Child rights and protecti...on in cocoa growing communities in Ghana
more
|
The project is strengthening l...ocal and national child protection systems to protect children from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect in the cocoa sector in Ghana. The project is building strong and functional community and district level structures for education on child labour and advocating duty-bearer organizations and institutions to roll-out programmes and policies on child labour and child protection. The agricultural sector remains the backbone of Ghana with over 50% of the workforce employed in agriculture. Cocoa is the chief agricultural export product and the country's main cash crop. Ghana is the second largest cocoa exporter in the world after Ivory Coast. The Ghana Statistical Service estimates indicate that close to 28% of children in Ghana between the ages of 5 to 14 are involved in child labour activities and are not going to school. Out of this proportion, over 50% are engaged in farm labour with cocoa farms engaging about 65% of them. The Cocoa Labour Survey in Ghana commissioned by the National Programme for the Elimination of Child Labour in Cocoa estimated a quarter of the children working in the cocoa sector are engaged in hazardous work. Enrolment records from the Municipal Education Directorate reveal an increasing decline as pupils' transition from the primary school to the Junior High School level. The overall objective of the project is to improve child protection and child rights. The purpose of the project is strengthened child protection systems in the Asunafo and Asetanapa municipality communities. Expected outputs of the project are increased access to safe school environment, communities' increased capacities to raise awareness on child rights, increased CSOs' capacity on child labour and child protection and establishment of duty-bearers' platform to ensure child-rights promotion. The project is targeting small producer organisations, traditional leaders and other community opinion leaders, as well as municipal assembly and its departments and other community level stakeholders. The project's final beneficiaries are children from around 100 cocoa growing communities in Asunafo and Asetenapa. The project is implemented by Fairtrade Africa in cooperation with International Cocoa Iniciative (ICI) and local child-rights' organizations. http://www.fairtradeafrica.net/

F.A: PROTECTING RIGHTS FOR ENH...ANCED LIVELIHOODS OF WORKERS IN THE VALUE CHAIN OF BANANAS
more
|
F.a: Protecting rights for enh...anced livelihoods of workers in the value chain of bananas
more
|
The project will promote and p...rotect the rights of workers within banana value chain in Ghana. Although Ghana gained lower middle-income status in 2010, inequality is on the rise and poverty remains prevalent in many areas. Ghana is a small player in the global banana market, but exports have increased sharply. Export banana production is concentrated to two companies and they employ around 3,150 banana workers. Generally, opportunities to engage in full-time waged employment are in short supply in Ghana, making the jobs created by the banana industry of significant value for the local population. However, living wage study carried out in 2017 revealed, that basic wages for general banana workers averaged 74% of the living wage estimate and clearly insufficient for decent life in Southern Ghana. The fear of losing employment as a result of agitating for rights has created vulnerabilities that limit the exercise of the freedoms by workers as they feel that making too many demands on the company will lead to redundancies. Despite being aware of their rights, workers are unable to speak about their rights and do not want to join the worker organization because of fear of being victimized if they were to voice the issues. Supervisory and management positions are dominated by men while women work in lower level positions in sections considered as lighter duties. This is due to socio-cultural factors as well as very low literacy levels among women workers, women fear to be leaders because their peers will intimidate them due to their inability to read and write. Most meetings are conducted in English and women feel uncomfortable because they do not understand much English. Project's goal is to improve living conditions of workers in the banana value chain in Ghana. The purpose of the project is improved employee satisfaction on Ghana's banana plantations. The project's expected outputs are enhanced awareness of gender equality, greater awareness of labour rights, strengthened capacity of workers to organize, companies' greater commitment towards living wage and workers' enhanced negotiation skills. The project is implemented by Fairtrade Africa in cooperation with trade unions TUC, GAWU and TWU. http://www.fairtradeafrica.net/

Awareness-Raising Campaign to ...Fight Stigma against Survivors of Sexual Violence
more
|
The overall objective of this ...project-proposal is to help the survivors of sexual violence of Kosovo war to fight the stigma they face in society. Almost two decades after the war in Kosovo has ended the survivors of sexual violence still face stigma and are reluctant to speak out about what has happened to them because of the societal pressure. The process of getting recognition for the survivors of sexual violence has been met with resistance in public institutions and certain segments of society. The survivors of sexual violence (including men) are afraid to come out to speak about their traumatic experiences and thus not rarely they have ended up blaming themselves for the violence inflicted upon them.

No Lost Generation: Promoting ...Multi-dimensional Child Well-being through Integrated Programming
more
|
Lebanon is hosting around 1.5 ...million people who have fled the conflict in Syria. In addition there are more than 208000 Palestinian refugees in the country. The crisis in Syria has exacerbated the lack of resources and services in Lebanon. The situation has considerably deteriorated during the past year following the downfall spiral of the Lebanese economy made even worse by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Beirut explosion in August 2020. The No Lost Generation (NLG) initiative is a regional strategy to mobilise funding to improve the wellbeing of the millions of children who suffer due to the Syrian crisis. An estimated six million children in the region are at risk of being left without education and exposed to violence. The Finnish-funded UNICEF NLG project in Lebanon focuses on the most vulnerable children and youth. The previous NLG implementation has brought an important lesson that the most effective way to increase vulnerable children's enrolment in basic education and to prevent violence against children is to address their wellbeing in a comprehensive manner. Therefore this additional funding of Finland focuses on children's wellbeing by addressing their needs comprehensively both through child protection services and social benefits as well as through provision of learning opportunities. Altogether some 5016 out-of-learning children will receive basic learning opportunities child protection services and/or vocational training or life-skills training opportunities. Beneficiaries are over 10-year-old Syrian Palestinian and Lebanese children and their families. Finland has been previously funding the UNICEF NLG components in Lebanon (5 M? in 2014 3.7 M? 2019) Turkey (2.5 M? in 2015) Jordan (2.5 M? in 2016) and Syria (2.5 M? in 2016 3 M? 2020). The new funding decision of 4.3 M? for the years 2021-2022 to UNICEF Lebanon's NLG project continues Finland?s funding to Lebanon?s education sector and child protection provision.

F.A: BUILDING STRONG AND RESIL...IENT LOCAL TRADE UNIONS IN THE MALAWI TEA SUPPLY CHAIN
more
|
F.a: Building strong and resil...ient local trade unions in the Malawi tea supply chain
more
|
The project will build stronge...r and more active trade unions, increase workers knowledge of their rights in the workplace and enhance supervisors' capacities in tea plantations in Malawi. A special focus will be given to improving gender equality. Malawi is Africa's second largest tea producer, after Kenya. The tea industry is the largest formal sector employer in Malawi, employing 50,000 workers and providing livelihood to more than 14,000 smallholders. However, tea workers' wages are very low. Current CBA pegs a daily minimum wage of MWK1,380 (US$1.88) while living wage is estimated to be MWK 3,051 ($4.16). There is a need for continued negotiation between the workers and the Tea Association of Malawi (TAML). However, this has proved a challenge for the workers, as the trade union is struggling to maintain the 15 % minimum threshold required to grant them bargaining rights with TAML. One reason for low union membership is short term contracts. In many tea estates joint consultative committees are preferred over trade union membership as they don't have a membership fee. This has translated into inactive plantation level trade unions and shop stewards. Significant amount of women work in the tea sector, and they face several challenges like gender-based violence, low job security in case of pregnancy and weak opportunities for managerial positions. The issue of harsh treatment and harassment by supervisors and the difficulties in raising these issues is an important driver of vulnerability, especially for unskilled women labourers. Elderly people, people with disabilities and people with HIV/AIDS have an even higher vulnerability to low wages, as they tend to be the first to lose their jobs during economic hardships. The goal of the project is to ensure right to a sustainable livelihood for worker households in tea sector in Malawi. The purpose of the project is improved terms, conditions and rights at work. The beneficiaries of the project will be 6400 workers in two tea plantations in Malawi, of which 23% are women. The project is implemented by Fairtrade Africa in cooperation with the trade union PAWU, Tea Association of Malawi (TAML) and Oxfam. http://www.fairtradeafrica.net/

The OYO project has an aim to ...decrease the drop-out rates of San children which are among the highest in Namibia in a specific ethnic group. The project focuses on indigenous SAN culture and how the SAN people struggle to access services due to their cultural difference with the dominant cultures surrounding them. The project will illustrate the elements of SAN culture and present it to the stakeholders in order to bring about debate on the impact that culture has in the implementation and realization of rights. In the first phase of the project it became evident that the San children are often bullied and discriminated against which effects them dropping out from school. In addition the San parents are often not very supportive of school especially when it comes to teenage girls. Cultural norms enable the girls to drop out of school get married and pregnant. The project aims to address these issues.

F.a: Promoting Human Right of ...GBV Survivors through Capacity Building Project
more
|
Justice delivered by the court... is beyond the reach of ordinary people. It is expensive and cumbersome process which leads most justice seekers to drop the case. Hence, it is inaccessible to the poor and marginalized people, specially the victims of violence. The project focuses on capacity building on human rights, legal rights and other related policy and direct support to individuals suffering from sexual violence. Similarly, it strengthens local judicial committees under the municipality and rural municipalities to respond to GBV cases properly and effectively. Newly elected local-level representatives will be oriented on their roles with regards to addressing human rights issues in their respective jurisdictions (deputy mayors, vice chair-persons and members of municipalities and rural municipalities) exclusively on the human rights based approach (HRBA) to development, in particular the rights and responsibilities of local judicial communities, and dispute resolution and mediation process to ensure justice to victims. This increases women's access to justice. Mediation and Reconciliation Committees will also be constituted under the Judicial Committee. http://cvict.org.np/

F.a: Gender Capacity-building:... Ending Gender-based Violence against Girls and Women
more
|
The aim of the project is that... the individuals and communities faced by unfair treatment and traumatic experiences are able to build their lives and to participate in the development of their country as full members.#The employees of KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council face a variety of people traumatized in different ways. Many people, especially in KwaZulu-Natal region, have experienced the injustice of apartheid, or are victims of political or gender based violence. In addition, HIV-related stigma causes anxiety. Many of the minority groups such as migrants and immigrants, sexual minorities and internally displaced people are also exposed to violence and discrimination. Unequal land distribution, on its part, further aggravates the conflict between different groups.#The program coordinates the work that is carried out by 11 organizations, specialized in different themes and target groups. KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council KZNCC is also responsible for consultations and workshops organized for farm workers and farmers. The activity is aimed at reducing violence, breaking the cycle of violence and supporting the victims. Workshops, role play, drama, stories and other experimental methods are used to handle conflict and violence and strengthen the means for peace and reconciliation.

Sexual and gender minorities f...ace serious discrimination and violence in Sri Lanka. The most significant reasons for discrimination are cultural norms and discriminating legislation. The status of LGBTIQ communities and minorities in general has improved in 2015 after an opposition candidate won the presidential elections. The new political situation enables organisations promoting LGBTIQ rights to take their work further and achieve changes, both in mental settings and in legislation. The long-term strategic goal of Equal Ground has been to promote acceptability, status, rights and legal protection of LGBTIQ community. One of their main strategies in achieving the goal is networking and seeking support for the organisation's work both amongst the LGBTIQ community and among the larger public. This project aims at strengthening the LGBTIQ community in claiming their rights, improving general knowledge on the rights of sexual and gender minorities, changing or revoking discriminative legislation, and enhancing legal protection. The target groups of this project are LGBTIQ communities in 4 cities: Colombo, Kandy, Matara and Nuwara Eliya. Furthermore, the project targets people participating in trainings, Sri Lankan human rights commission, 30 lawyers in EG's lawyers' network, political decision-makers and the general public. Equal ground, founded in 2004 and registered in 2005, is a Sri Lankan civil society organization seeking to promote the rights of sexual and gender minorities. http://www.equal-ground.org/

F.a: Indentification, Document...ation and Support to Burundian Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence
more

Screening of Burundian refugee...s in exile in Western Uganda (Nakivale refugee settlement) will allow earlier identification of experiences of violence and rights abuse. Timely referral of cases in need will enable survivors to access professional medical and psychosocial services for the recovery of physical and social functionality. Monitoring and follow-up of recovery will also include careful documentation of SGBV and other violations experienced in the country of origin, Burundi, during flight, and in exile, as well as extension of counselling support to children and spouses of victims. The collection, analysis and archiving of survivor testimonies will support future judicial processes for accountability and delivering of justice to victims. Documentation of survivor testimonies will provide information on demographic characteristics of survivors, the nature of torture, where and when it occurred. This information can also contribute towards facilitating dialogue and debate on the human rights violations that occurred. This information will also inform policy and programs formulation processes that can provide redress for the wrongs that occurred to the Burundian refugees. Legal aid will be provided in both civil and criminal matters and this shall be in the form of; basic legal advice and assistance, mediations, legal information concerning the law and various procedures, drafting of legal documents such as pleadings and supporting documents, representation before courts of law and other quasi-judicial institutions. Burundian refugees will also receive human rights awareness raising and education through information sessions to ensure that they are aware of their rights and of the legal frameworks in Uganda. Issues that will be discussed during information sessions include rights of refugees, legal frameworks on SGBV, prevention and response, the role of different actors in dealing with SGBV, SGBV in forced migration: prevention and response mechanisms, climate change, and environment. www.refugeelawproject.org

?Protecting and Empowering a s...ustainable human rights defender movement? The human rights defenders? movement has grown exponentially over the past three decades including through global networks such as the SOS torture network of the OMCT and has never been as universal diverse in pursuing social justice human rights and democratic and good governance and fighting for impunity as today. At the same time human rights defenders are today challenged in an unprecedented way. They face an acute real and deepening protection crisis a concerted closing of space and multiple forms of regulatory repression and suffocation a questioning of the system of multilateral support and an anti-human rights and anti-NGO discourse making it increasingly difficult for defenders to be heard and to achieve impact on the multiple causes they pursue. The challenge faced by the human rights movement today is foundational and a challenge to the legitimacy of human rights defense locally regionally and globally in spite of the standards and mechanisms for the protection of human rights defenders and the obligation to ensure an enabling environment for human rights defenders. With the geopolitical shifts away from the West the fading commitment to human rights in countries such as the United States the emergence of powerful populist discourses including strong anti-human rights and anti-NGO current and with corrosive discourses surrounding terrorism or migration this trend is likely to continue and deepen over the coming years. This discourse change includes the portrayal of human rights defenders as naïve anti-national and as foreign puppets or agents of states in Europe and elsewhere due their foreign funding or because of their participation in universal human rights mechanisms. ?

The Syria crisis which lasted ...for 8 years is among the largest humanitarian emergencies in the world. It has affected particularly the neighboring states. For example Jordan currently hosts 671.000 Syrian refugees. In 2019 Brussels conference the international community promised to keep supporting Syrian neighbouring countries. Finland pledged to support the crisis response for 25 million euros in 2019. In particular Finland promised to keep supporting the livelihood and education opportunities for women and children affected by the crisis. Women are often among the vulnerable groups particularly affected by the Syrian crisis. According to a vulnerability mapping conducted by UN Women for the Syrian refugee women it is particularly difficult to find employment. Some of the contributing factors include the current legislation and the low number of work permits for refugee women the cultural norms as well as lack of education possibilities for women. Women are also often more affected by gender-based violence. These same factors also affect the most vulnerable Jordanian women. The third phase of the UN Women?s project Eid-bi-Eid (Hand in Hand) supports the econominc empowerment of the most vulnerable women. Beneficiaries include particularly the Syrian refugee women and the most vulnerable Jordanian women. The objective of the project is improve women?s employment through: 1) influencing the Jordanian national legislation and policies 2) offering cash-for-work employment opportunities for women in refugee camps 3) expanding cash-for-work support to vulnerable women outside camps 4) offering support to victims of gender-based violence and by implementing activities to prevent violence and5) promoting dialogue and civil society participation in women?s empowerment including by influencing on men?s attitudes. The EBE3 project covers 2019-2022 and it is a multi-donor pooled fund. The project will have almost 50.000 direct beneficiaries. The overall bidget of the project is around 30 million euros of which Finland?s share is 2 million euros.Finland has supported the two first phases of the project in 2014?2018 for 2.3 million euros. According to an evaluation report published in 2019 the project has produced good results and it has been relevant for promoting women?s economic empowerment. The second phase of the project had over 20.000 direct beneficiaries.

ETHNIC GIRLS RIGHTS ADVOCACY

Ethnic Girls Rights Advocacy
|
Adolescent girls should have t...he right to decide when they get married and how many children thay wish to have.Even though child-marriages are forbidden in Laos these continue to be common practice there. In 2012 morethan one-third girl ended up being married before reaching adulthood. Particularly girls in poor uneducated and minority families are in danger of getting married before adulthood. In Laos teen pregnancies also remain one of the highest in South-East Asia. Plan works in Laos to end child-marriages and early pregnancies. Our young volunteers visit villages schools and families explaining about the importance of education.Together with local organisations we create a model to prevent child-marriages that can be adapted in other parts of Laos as well. Plan influences politicians so that girls?lives will improve sustainably.

YOUNG GIRL ACTIVISTS TO CONTRI...BUTE IN PREVENTING OF EARLY MARRIAGES

Young girl activists to contri...bute in preventing of early marriages
more
|
Poverty instability and displa...cement of Syrians in Lebanon have led to the increase of child marriage among Syrian refugees as well as vulnerable Lebanese. This project implemented by Developmental Action without Borders (Naba?a) intends to contribute to the reduction of early marriage in the most vulnerable and neglected communities (Lebanese and Syrian) in Akkar North Lebanon and providing a protective environment particularly for young and adolescent girls. The project is based on the recommendations of the previous project funded by the Finnish Embassy. This will be achieved through four main project components: 1) The first component aims to reshape the lives of the most marginalized Lebanese young and adolescent girls through enrolling them in a vocational training center to study a vocational profession. This might help them to find better job opportunities and prevent their early marriage as they are able to cover their daily expenses. 2) The second component is working on empowering and enhancing the skills of the girls to be girls advocacy activists within their communities at the local and national levels. 3)The third component will be focused on the parents adolescent girls and Community Members whom will be empowered and Enabled to take Informed Decisions and to become Agents of Positive Change in order to prevent and Respond to Early Marriage. This will be achieved through awareness raising capacity development for parents particularly mothers and community leaders on the child rights protection and the risks of early marriage. 4)The fourth component will be focused on the advocacy and lobbying where the community Leaders and influential persons including religious leaders are aware about the risks of child marriage and agree that marriage should not be contracted before 18 years in any circumstances. The direct project beneficiaries are 40 adolescent and young girls and 600 community members.

1. Project: 12057 Economic emp...owerment for social justice: Supporting efforts of the women in Southern Lalitpur to scale up their business initiatives and combat inequality.2. Project area and Country: Southern Lalitpur, Nepal 3. Project justification: The social and development indicators of Lalitpur district as a whole, in general, are above the average status of Nepal. Nevertheless, the Southern part of the Lalitpur district is characterized by limited access, high concentration of the socially marginalized groups (Janajatis, Dalits), the prevalence of the caste and gender-based discrimination and inequalities including domestic violence resulting into higher poverty and marginalization. Women are one of the most marginalized groups with very limited participation, network, and opportunity. Moreover, the control of women in production resources is extremely low. 4. The main objective and the expected results:The main objective is to increase influence and dignity of women in southern Lalitpur through consolidation of achievements on access to finance, business and market skills, and promoting gender justice. To achieve this goal, the project will enhance the access of women to affordable finance through consolidation of capacity of twelve women's cooperatives. Thematic trainings to key stakeholders will include account management, product and business development, gender based violence (GBV) reduction, inclusion of people living with disabilities, etc. The project will carry out several advocacy activities to overcome GBV and promote meaningful participation of women in the communities by implementing family and CBOs dialogues targeting men of the localities. Additionally, there will be a close cooperation with the GBV sub-committees and Judicial Committee at the local government on monitoring of GBV cases, reporting child marriage and supporting women victims of violence to access justice. Likewise, advocacy will take place at local government level for encouraging local producers to promote pest-free production.5. Right-holders/beneficiaries: 4,500 women Duty bearers: Rural municipalities, local government's agencies, CBOs 6. Implementing partner: Society of Local Volunteers' Effort (SOLVE) and Federation of Women Entrepreneurs' Association of Nepal (FWEAN)

This project tackles the chall...enges of protecting preserving and elevating the work of HRDs in Burundi Rwanda Tanzania Kenya Uganda South Sudan Sudan Ethiopia Eritrea Djibouti and Somalia. Its overall objective is a safe working environment for human rights defenders at imminent risk in the East and Horn of Africa through enhanced access to protection capacity building and advocacy for duty bearers to fulfil their national regional and international obligation to protect HRDs.The project is multi-modal with results sought under distinct output areas: 1) HRDs under imminent threat will be able to access critical emergency protective services, 2) HRDs individual and organisational capacity is built in realms of preventive security management digital security wellness and stress management with special output focus on country capacity in Somalia and on women?s capacity on digital security and online GBV responses and 3) closing space for civil society is countered through advocacy research secure documentation strategic advocacy training and online campaigning support. The project is human rights transformative based on a theory of change that human rights defenders emerging from local communities are best placed to change the norms and customs of their own communities and polities. Through protection and capacity building of these human rights defenders as well as by initiating and sustaining policy dialogues at national regional and international levels the project seeks to impact root causes of human rights violations. Consideration and disaggregation for gender LGBT indigenous minorities and other vulnerable groups as well as for the individuals and organs which defend their rights is represented.Project outputs and results fundamentally align with Finland?s development cooperation policy as it provides a critical protective function enabling civil society to exist and to take risks towards its goal of realising human rights fulfilment in the region. It supports Finland?s 1st 3rd and 4th Development priorities supports SDG?s 5 10 16 and 17 and nearly completely overlaps with Finland?s geographic priority countries in East Africa. Internationally the project works to implement the UN Declaration on HRDs the EU Guidelines on HRDs and the African Commission on Human and Peoples? Rights declarations and special procedures on human rights defenders.
