The Country Program of Bhutan ...is supporting the vulnerable Bhutanese women, especially the victims of domestic violence. The beneficiaries benefitting from the vocational training will be around 600. Fida is working in Bhutan with the local CSO called RENEW a well-known and appreciated organization due to its preventive work on domestic violence and the comprehensive support system to the victims and their children. There are in total 4000 direct beneficiaries and 14 000 indirect ones.##The Country Program works in areas where previously there have been no skills trainings for women. They are rural areas where the income comes from agriculture. However, the income is hardly enough for basic needs of the family. The education level is low: the older women are mostly illiterate, the younger ones have some years of education. The women dont take part in decision making in the community. The biggest problem in the communities is the harmful use of alcohol, which increases domestic violence. Besides rural communities, the Program also provides training in RENEWs Head Quarters in Thimphu and in the Shelter Home and its Vocational Training Center situated near Thimphu.##The Country Program supports RENEWs comprehensive service concept by providing skills training, especially tailoring, to women, who are members of RENEWs saving and loan schemes. The aim is that each participant of the training can get income through the new skills. Therefore, the trainings also include training on finance and on how to start a small business. The income will reduce the risk of domestic violence and increase the possibility to be a part of decision making in the family and in society. The women mainly use their income for the education of their children.##The Country Program of Bhutan is doing preventive work on the harmful use of alcohol and domestic violence with families and communities. Themes of Childrens Rights, equity, gender equality and environment are also part of the Program.##As a result of the Country Program, 600 Bhutanese women get better income and the anxiety over money and the future of children diminishes in the families. The communities profit from the skilled women and their increased activity in social issues. RENEW develops as a Civil Society Organization: its skills on project management improve and activities to support vulnerable women and their families expand.

Legal and psychological suppor...t for women victims of gender based violence. They are already working in the matter with the women of the area. / Chuquisaca (Central Andes of Bolivia). Questioned about the sustainability they answered that they estimate that in a couple of years the services they provide might be assumed by local authorities or national government. As a matter of fact they have previously transferred to local government a similar project about children s rights and current Bolivian government has just set as a national priority the fight against gender based violence. They are already working on the matter in collaboration with local governmental agencies.

The project prevents domestic ...violence in Botswana, promotes understanding of the phenomenon and strengthens the referral system for victims of domestic violence. The project also improves the realization of the rights of the victims and increases local communities' skills and awareness over the different practices of identifying, supporting and protecting the victims of violence and their family members. The project is implemented by the Kagisano Society Women's Shelter Project KSWSP which is one of FELM's new partner organisations. In Botswana, violence against women and violence experienced by women are major factors limiting the rights of women in society. The government statistics show that up to two-thirds of women suffer violence at some point in their lives. The aim of KSWSP is to prevent violence against women, in particular, and to increase opportunities for women and men to handle situations of violence, to provide protection and therapy for victims of domestic violence, as well as to increase the awareness of gender based violence among different local stakeholders and the general public.KSWSP focuses on providing shelter and services to victims of domestic violence, seeks to influence public opinion in realizing the harmfulness of domestic violence, as well as lobbies state and local government authorities for ensuring services for victims of violence. In Botswana there are only two shelter houses, one in Maun and the KSWSP's shelter house in Gaborone. The KSWSP also operates a low-threshold reception center, where one can get therapy and support, and have a discussion with the social worker about future options and services. Most part of the funding for the shelter and reception center comes from the state.

Cambodia is a country of both ...origin and transit for human trafficking. The relations and trust between the police and communities has historically been weak and not serving the best interest of victims. The project builds the capacity of duty bearers (police and authorities, government and other stakeholders) in providing protection and access to justice to the child victims of human trafficking and abuse. A training curriculum will be designed based on a study of the authorities' knowledge and skills regarding child rights. Training material will be made to address the real needs of the authorities working directly with victims and their families. The training will cover the psycho-social aspects of the work with child victims, as well as appropriate legal procedures and law. Project will also facilitate trainings on Child Rights in communities, including local police and authorities in order to build better relations and trust between the police and communities. The expected results of the project are improved understanding and strengthened practices of child rights, children are protected better from exploitation and victims and their families are protected and have access to justice. A connected network will be formed to facilitate a timely and coordinated child victim care and child protection. Direct beneficiaries are 60 local Police in Prey Veng and Svay Rieng, 210 local community people, community and church leaders. Final beneficiaries are children who are in danger of exploitation and human trafficking. The implementing partner is Chab Dai Coalition.

The issue of male victims of s...exual exploitation is a silenced problem in Cambodia. Therefore it is difficult for the victims to seek and find help and justice. To address the problem the project raises awareness and capacity of local communities, professionals and authorities regarding the ongoing sexual abuse of boys and young men. The project activities are awareness raising, trainings to social workers, police and other professionals, training of trainers, producing information material and campaigning, an outreach programme for support and counselling and peer support groups. The expected results are decreased abuse and risk of marginalization, better access to relevant psychosocial support and safe re-integration in the society for the male victims of exploitation.Beneficiaries are victims of sexual abuse, their families and caregivers, relevant professionals working with children, also other NGOs in Phnom Penh and Siem Riep. The implementing partner is First Step.

United Nations Populations Fun...d (UNFPA) has gathered statistical evidence from gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Relative recently published data show no abatement in sexual violence cases. In North Kivu alone, 4689 cases were reported in 2011 and 7075 in 2012. Same tendency has been witnessed in South Kivu (2713 cases in 2011 and 5028 in 2012). According to UNFPA, DRC has the world's highest number of reported gender-based violence cases. The role of woman in the Congolese society is still very weak. Project Specific Objective: The role and participation of women in managing public affairs has improved in selected Provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Oriental Province Expected Results: • Legal structures at Provincial level of North Kivu have improved to better address the issue of sexual violence • The awareness of community members in selected target communities on women's and children's rights has improved • Vulnerable women in selected communities participate actively in saving and credit groups and have their own income generating activities. • Local communities are part of and contribute to formal and non-formal peace support structures, on local, sub-national, national and international level Activities: • Supporting legal structures in North Kivu in data management of sexual violence cases • Training on the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict • Awareness-raising in selected communities on women's and children's rights • Working with men and boys as change agents to combat sexual violence • Supporting the existing Village Credit and Saving Associations of vulnerable women including survivors of sexual violence • Providing training on entrepreneurship and creating small-scale income-generating activities • Advocacy programme in like with the advocacy plan developed for RAFEJE in 2014 to empower women in the DRC Rights-holders /beneficiaries: • Survivors of sexual violence in the Province of North Kivu. • Currently there are about 20 Village Saving and Credit Associations created having on average 20 members in each; new groups will be established. • The key duty-bearers will be the representatives of the judicial system, specifically in the provinces of the North and South Kivu and the Oriental Province. Local authorities in selected communities as well as community members in target areas will be addresses. • In 2014 the RAFEJE has also prepared an advocacy plan up to the end 2015, including a stakeholder analysis. The key stakeholders for the project are DRC National Assembly and Senate, the Governors of the three Provinces, and Gender Ministry and Division at the Provincial level. Implementing partner: Dynamique des Femmes Juristes (DFJ); Femmes Juristes pour les Droits de la Femme et de l'Enfant (FJDF) ; RAFEJE. One of the special characteris...tics of the conflict in Congo has been of the raw and systematic violence against women and girls. Sexual violence takes place in the eastern part of the conflict and the systematic impunity is a fundamental problem: the authorities are intervening a very limited number of cases and the judicial system does not have enough resources for effective work. The aim is to fight against the impunity of the sexual violence crimes by providing legal assistance to victims of sexual violence and raising awareness of sexual violence in the legal context. The target groups are the victims of sexual violence, women and girls and their families . Action des Droits des chrétiens Activistes de l' Homme à Shabunda ACADHOSHA is an organization founded in 2001 that works in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The organization works, especially in remote areas of Shabunda y Mwenga . The organization's goal is to promote respect for human rights, especially women's and children's rights, as well as to work in order to eliminate impunity, discrimination and violence . www.acadhosha.org

Justice Rapid Response (JRR) i...s an international intergovernmental facity aimed at enhancing the capacity of the international community to ensure accountability for the most serious international crimes and human rights violations. Information and evidence gathered through high-quality investigations is essential for delivering justice for such crimes which in turn is crucial for ending impunity for such crimes and for ensuring access to justice for the victims. The project supports the following activities of the JRR : 1) direct investigative and prosecutorial assistance to States relating to the most serious international crimes; 2) expert roster development through support for organizing a training crouse on the investigation of SGBV crimes under international law in Senegal and a training course on the integration of forensic sciences in international investigations in the Republic of Korea and 3) strategic outreach and alliances activities. The project promotes in a concrete manner the objectives of Finland s Development Policy relating to the prevention of human rights violations related to conflicts and to the prevention of impunity associated with the most serious international crimes. The project also promotes the objectives of Finland s National Action Plan on Women Peace and Security (1325). Continued support to the JRR is specifically mentioned as a means to advance the objective of the Plan relating to the fight against impunity. Almost all investigations (95%) to which JRR has deployed experts concerned investigations on serious crimes and human rights violations committed in countries that are ODA countries. At least 40 % of the participants to the training courses are from ODA countries but the proportion of participants from these countries will be more than 70% for the forensic sciences course. Those trained will be added to the roster from which experts will be deployed to investigations in almost only ODA countries. The training courses and other activities of the project are aimed at enabling high-quality investigations in these countries. The final beneficiaries are therefore institutions societies and victimes of the most serious crimes in ODA countries. The projects are therefore ODA compatible on the basis of the final beneficiaries.

|
Project aims to increase knowl...edge and skills of authorities and communities to prevent and to react to gender-based violence and child abuse as well as to enhance national-level cooperation and coordination on the issue. Violence is a common problem in Dominican Republic and according to some studies almost half of the Dominican women aged 30-49 years have been victims of violence at some point of their life. 48 % of the children in the project areas have experienced physical violence and 30 % are victims of violence committed by their teachers. The project offers capacity-building for children, adolescents and adults in order to enhance the capacities in the communities to identify when gender-based violence or child abuse takes place, to prevent them and to react to them. Protection networks are also established and supported in the project areas and the capacities of the authorities in responding to cases of violence are strengthened. As a result of the project, girls, boys and adults in the communities are better aware of the different forms and risks of violence and they are better equipped to protect themselves from it. Project is implemented by Plan in close co-operation with the Community Development Committees of the 15 project communities.

F.A: PROTECTION OF CHILDREN FR...OM GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

|
F.a: Protection of children fr...om gender based violence
more
|
The project aims to improve pr...otection mechanisms and community practices against female genital mutilation (FGM) and Child Marriage particularly in Amhara and Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples (SNNP) Regions. FGM and Child Marriage are among the most serious violations of children's right in Ethiopia; and they are the product of various forms and degrees of gender discrimination in Ethiopia that generally value boys more than girls. Victims of FGM suffer physically, and psychologically; and the health consequences are severe. Child marriage often results in girls quitting school; and it also results in sexual abuse as victims are forced to start sexual relationship at an early age. Hence, the project contributes to the improvement of community, school and district level protection structures and mechanisms for the elimination of these harmful practices. The project also works towards improving knowledge and positive attitude of girls and boys towards equality of girls; and towards sensitizing the community on the fight against FGM and child marriage. The project also supports the institutional and technical capacity of key district government offices to improve their response to cases of FGM and child marriage. Girls but also their families and the communities in the two districts (Fagtalekuma in Amhara and Bonazuria in SNNP) are the primary beneficiaries. A total of 20 kebeles (smallest administrative unit) are addressed in both districts. Professional Alliance for Development (PADet) and Kembatti Menti Gezima (KMG) are the implementing partners respectively, working in close partnership with the Bureau of women, children and youth (BoWCYA). Overall project implementation is led by Plan International Ethiopia.

F.a: Smartup Factory Youth Inn...ovation Project
more
|
Smartup Factory project aims t...o create an enabling environment where marginalized young men and women aged 17-26 are empowered through personal development to incubate innovations for positive social transformation. More specifically the expected outcomes are to 1. Create youth friendly, inclusive and enabling space for marginalized young men and women aged 17-26, 2. Enhance the capacity of marginalized young men and women through personal development trainings, mentoring, ICT and leadership, 3. Established network of actors that support youth social entrepreneurship and active citizenship-employability, further education, support innovative ideas, 4. Empower youth customize ownership of the running of the Smart-Up factory. Marginalized youth don't have the same opportunities to pursue their ideas as their better educated and resourced peers and thus this potential is mostly left untapped and unleashed. The project strives to build work-related skills and capacities, build partner CSOs capacity to implement youth targeted programmes, and engage with the private sector and government to provide safe, inclusive, and gender sensitive youth employment and other income generating opportunities. The expected results are increased technology, design thinking, business and presentation skills which result in increased employment, new businesses, volunteerism and activity among the participants. Smart-UP will primarily target girls, boys and young women between the ages of 17– 26 who reside in Arad and Addis Ketema districts of Addis Ababa. There will be estimated 2300 direct beneficiaries during 2018-2021. Plan International Ethiopia works through two main local partners: AGOHELMA and YMCA. They both have existing youth work, available space for Smartup Factory and skills in engaging with the youth.

F.a: Empowering Maasai Girls a...nd Community in Narok District
more
|
Empowering Maasai Girls and Co...mmunities in Narok District. The project focuses on empowering a local partner to work with Maasai girls and their communities in the Narok region. The position of women and girls in the Maasai society is quite poor. The Maasai have a tradition of practicing female genital mutilation (FGM) and early forced marriages. For women, these practices are harmful and many Maasai girls run away to escape them. In 1997 the local Full Gospel Church in Narok established a safe-house for such Maasai girls. Later the church asked for Fida's assistance to make a wider impact on the Maasai communities. In addition to the safe-house, which is supported through child sponsorship, the programme now includes various components. The programme offers training for the partner in e.g. Community Health Education (CHE) and HIV/AIDS questions. Adult education in the local Maasai communities is also an essential part of the programme. Maasai girls are also supported and encouraged to enter high school and postgraduate studies, when possible. Through the programme, the partner's capacity to work with the Maasai communities increases. And as a result of effective development work, the attitudes and practices among the Maasai begin the change. This, in turn, will improve the overall status of Maasai girls.

The programme works for enhanc...ing children's rights in Sook, Western Kenya. As a result of cuts in government funding in 2016, the project has faced some replanning. The new project focuses on promoting education and decreasing female gender mutilation in the area. The first secondary school for girls was finished in 2010 and the number of students is growing due to the security provided by the dormitories. The new project phase will keep focusing on making the schools and school environments safe for children and girls especially. School drop- out has been very common especially for girls who have been married off often at the age of 12-14 years, right after FGM. The evaluation showed that FGM has decreased by 21 % in the four years of implementation. Now the percentage of girls who have been cut is 72%. Anti-FGM messages will be spread to children, youth and parents through various partners and media. Women and girls continue making reusable sanitary pads which brings extra income for women and helps the girls to participate fully in education. Sook has a population of 22.000 people. The population belong to Pokots and families are mostly nomads moving around with their cattle. The main partner is World Vision Kenya that runs the implementation and accounts for the use of funding.

|
The project on strengthening t...he protection of physical integrity of girls and women is being planned in Kenia, the Province of Nyanza. The initial project thematic includes two human rights violations: violence against women and female genital mutilation. These are significant problems in the project area and there is a clear need for development cooperation work that advances gender equality and reduced gender based violence. The specific objectives, final implementation partners, beneficiaries, purpose and expected results of the project will be defined more specifically during the project planning phase, which forms the basis for the project implementation and will be finished by the end of 2015. The project implementation starts before 2016.

In phase II the project will continue the work started in phase I. One of the main aims is to secure sustainability of free legal aid system after Finnish funding has ended. New national free legal aid center will be established under the Ministry of Justice. Its personnel will be trained and its quality standards developed. Members of the civil society and media will be given legal education and/or information. Project budget is 17 million euro for 2018-21.

COMMUNITY BASED OUTREACH PROJE...CT AMONG ELDERLY (OPE II)
more
|
Community based outreach proje...ct among elderly (OPE II)
more
|
Traditionally the role of olde...r people in Namibia has been to advise their families and communities and to receive care and respect by their children. Today their role is often overlooked. Elderly people need immediate social support and practical assistance but it is likely that public support will assume greater dimension only over the coming years. Immediate objectives of the project are: 1) Increased skills on participatory working methods on elderly work among Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN) and the community2) Improved knowledge and awareness on elderly issuesand 3) Responsive family and social support structures established in communities. Namibia has seen the breaking down of the moral fabric within communities which causes a lack of respect for elderly people. Older women in particular have to deal with a double battle as they face abuse and inequality because of their age and gender. Participatory community development strengthens human rights and gender equality of elderly. Project respects climate sustainability too.The project does not create any new structure or institution but is positioned at the ELCIN Department of Diakonia and Social Services. Along with the project ELCIN will be capacitated to create a new community work approach for the most vulnerable elderly. The ultimate beneficiaries of the project are the most vulnerable elderly people over the age of 60 and their communities. Particularly attention is paid to marginalised elders without family members and vulnerable kinship caregivers who unexpectedly find themselves in the position of raising a second family. In both cases elderly people are subject to abuse. Major indirect beneficiary is the ELCIN.The key project activities include Curriculum Development; Development of elderly policy in ELCIN; Training of ELCIN personnel and volunteers; Strengthening institutional capacity of ELCIN; Discussions on sustainable future strategies; Research on relevant approaches; Development of home based care; Training on adult education; Providing psycho-social support and counseling; Awareness raising campaigns; Annual Ageing Seminars; Lobbying on preparation for ageing;Creating platforms for intergenerational dialogues;Establishing alliances with local authorities;Formation of Elderly clubs;Strengthening family ties for elderly support;Improving elderly security;Enhancing integration and networks of elderly in the community;and experience sharing.

The overall objective of this ...project is to foster a women s rights agenda and to promote gender equality in North Kosovo through tackling domestic violence at a local societal and institutional level. The specific objective is to improve the status of the victims of domestic violence in North Kosovo through institutional capacity building and the implementation of the Kosovo law on domestic violence through application of regional and European best practices. The main target groups are:a) Local professionals working in relevant public institutions who provide services for victims of domestic abuseb) Female victims and potential victims of domestic violencec) NGO sector workers who work with women and women issuesd) The international donor community and its representatives who work in related fieldsThe action will be focused in the four municipalities in the North of Kosovo. According to researches as many as 96% of women surveyed stated that they were not satisfied with the response of public bodies (police and municipalities) to domestic violence. This project will work directly with local institutions and the police in order to establish the groundwork for the construction of a safe house in North Kosovo which will cater to the needs of victims.

In Kosovo post-conflict societ...y gender based violence and especially violence against women is a big problem. Starting from 2011 Finland has supported a project of the UN Kosovo team (UNDP UNFPA UN Women UNICEF OHCHR) against Domestic violence with 1 130 000 euros. The project supports the implementation of Kosovo s law strategy and action plan against domestic violence by 1) awareness raising (prevention) 2) increasing capacity of the local domestic violence protection mechanisms (protection) 3) enhancing economic independence of (potential) domestic violence survivors (reintegration) and 4)scaling-up. The project supports the implementation of the UN SC resolution 1325 (Women peace and security). The project is in line with the Finnish development policy strategy. The project has produced information and studies on gender based violence in Kosovo and raised the topic of sexual violence related to conflicts to the awareness of the decision-makers. As a result of the project the capacities of the pilot municipalities to produce user-friendly services to the victims of domestic violence has been increased. The project has supported the establishment of coordination mechanisms against domestic violence delivered training on gender responsive budgeting. The mid-term review conducted in 2013 recommended to extend the project with at least one year which was done. The political development has made inclusion of the Northern Kosovo in project activities possible. One million euros additional funding is proposed for the project especially for the extension of the project to the four Northern municipalities in 2015-2016. By supporting the Northern Kosovo Finland supports the integration of the structures of the Northern Kosovo under Kosovo administration which is important for Finland politically. In order to ensure sustainability support to the earlier pilot municipalities will be continued and cooperation between North and South will be enhanced. Special attention is paid to the economic reintegration of the victims of domestic violence -and in this regard the project has seamless cooperation with other Finnish funded projects which support the economic development and employment in Kosovo.

F.a: Youth empowerment to acce...ss employment opportunities project in Burao and Erigavo in Somaliland

According to the estimations, ...90-98 percent of the girls in Somaliland are victims of FGM at the age of 6 to 9. FGM is a deeply rooted harmful traditional practice in which the girls' genitals are either damaged or removed. In the most serious case the genitals are closed after the cutting. FGM causes lifelong physical and psychological problems to the girls and women. It is also a human rights violation. The initial project purpose is to support the project implemented by CLHE on the reduction of the FGM cases on the national level. The project is implemented by a network that brings together all the actors carrying out FGM projects in Somaliland, Network against FGM/C in Somaliland (NAFIS). NAFIS coordinates the work of the actors that work on the elimination of FGM in Somaliland and strengthens networking between them. It also has a signigicant role in advocating for the illegalization of FGM in Somaliland. In addition to this, NAFIS produces national level studies on FGM and supports capacity building of its member organizations. The specific thematic, beneficiaries, purpose and expected results of the project will be defined more specifically during the project planning phase, which precedes the project implementation phase.

Training Programme for Gender ...and Domestic Violence Issues. The purpose of the Training Programme is to train and encourage local partners for effective awareness-raising and training of their own on gender and domestic violence issues. Fida's partners in the programme are national Asambleas de Dios (AdD) churches. The on-going training programme is a continuation of work already carried out in Bolivia, which is now expanded to four new countries. The partners' capacities and knowledge on gender issues and domestic violence are built up through seminars and workshops. Special attention is paid to establishing a strong network between the churches from different countries and formulating common strategies and guidelines. As the partners' knowledge and skills improve, they will be able to start independent work in their own countries. Through a strong network the churches can support and learn from each other. This networking will, in turn, lead towards more effective work against domestic violence and gender inequity.

Assisting victims of internati...onal crimes through ICC Trust Fund for Victims, victims of sexual and other forms of gender-based violence

The treaty-based International... Criminal Court (ICC) and Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) were established by the Rome Statute that entered into force in 2002. The TFV provides support to victims of crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the ICC as well as their families. These crimes include genocide crimes against humanity and war crimes. The TFV fulfills two mandates: it implements reparations ordered by the ICC and provides assistance to victims and their families. Through its assistance mandate the TFV finances its partner organizations which implement self-help projects at the local level. The practical means of assistance include i.a. physical rehabilitation psychological rehabilitation and material support. The countries where the TFV has provided assistance have been Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In 2018 the TFV will start its work in Côte d'Ivoire. If security permits the fund may launch assistance programs also in Central African Republic (CAR). One of the thematic priorities for the fund is support to victim survivors of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). The need for support to SGBV-victims is rising continuously and in addition reparations proceedings (Bemba case) are nearing the end. It is possible to earmark voluntary contributions to the trust fund to support SGBV-victims.The objective of the projects is to help victims and their families to overcome the harm resulting from the ICC crimes as well as to help them lead a dignified life and to contribute towards reconciliation and peace-building. The projects funded by the TFV are targeted to both individual and collective levels: they contribute to individual rehabilitation and empowerment as well as community stability and reconciliation. The TFV receives voluntary contributions from several states. Sweden the UK Germany the Netherlands and Finland have been the biggest donors. Finland is also one of the most consistent supporters. The contribution of Finland during years 2017-2020 (all together 800 000 euros) will be used to the TFV's assistance mandate programs with a thematic focus on the victims of sexual and gender-based violence. Regionally the assistance will be directed to Sub-Saharan Africa.

Workshop on children s rights,... education, information, teaching materials. Violence against children is a serious problem in Uganda, and it is happening at home, at school, at work, and in the context at child trafficking and child prostitution. The actual number of cases is expected to exceed clearly in reported cases. Corporal punishment is a problem, for example, 81% of school pupils in 2011, was forced to physical punishments. A significant proportion of victims of violence are girls. In particular, girls experience sexual violence. Economic and social barriers make it difficult to access to justice. Authors are often family members, neighbors or teachers. Child prostitution has increased from 2004 to 2011. Poverty increases child labor, which in turn increases the chances of to be a victim of violence. The project aims to raise awareness and to establish mechanisms to enable to reduce violence against children in the Rwenzori region of Western Uganda. The aim is to raise awareness of children s rights violations, discussion about them between local leaders and community members and increase activities to reduce the violence against children, victim services, as well as better involvement of children in violence prevention. The direct target group are legal advisers (one young and one adult per controller), the new and old support groups of the children s rights, local leaders , journalists and about 9 000 other community members who are involved in the project activities. In addition, the target group consists of 30 schools with their pupil and teachers. The indirect benefits of the project are the family members of the primary target groups, as well as radio- listeners a wider area. In addition, Joy for Children's workers the employees will benefit directly from the project s training . Joy for Children Uganda was established in 2005 and registered in 2006. Organization s vision is a society free of violations of children s rights in which all children have equal opportunities .

more

Training on domestic and sexua...l violence and follow-up training for who participated in the training in the past, radio bulletins against domestic violence in English or in Ugandan, trainings in the communities, RECESVID's core funding. Sexual and domestic violence is widespread in Uganda. According to the statistics, the women and children are the most vulnerable as direct and indirect victims, but also men are victims. The culture of impunity related to the crimes is a big part of the problem. The presence of the violence against women is maintained especially by the traditional gender roles, lack of human rights awareness and support structures. The majority of cases of domestic violence are not intervened, and the authorities attitudes and management practices do not encourage reporting the cases. For victims, it is difficult to get a comprehensive rehabilitation due to a lack of services. The domestic violence suffered by men is discussed publicly only a little. The project aims to raise awareness of sexual and domestic violence, as well as their relation to HIV / AIDS infections. Due to increasing awareness, victims of violence can apply for health and legal services, and more violent acts are reported. The aim is to strengthen the RECESVID's capacity of the human rights and to improve the awareness of RECESVID by web hosting and radio bulleting. The project s direct beneficiaries are 280 community members involved in training, who are elected from Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono. The participants are victims od sexual violence and domestic violence, perpetrators of violence, refugees, prostitutes, teachers, community leaders, religious and cultural leaders, family matters and child protection and crime prevention, as well as police officers working on the rehabilitation of street children. RECESVID was founded by a number of Ugandan human rights activists in August 2009 and has been registered to work in Kampala district. RECESVID's mission is to rehabilitate the victims of domestic and sexual violence and influence on the reductions of domestic and sexual violence.

Domestic violence is still one... of the most significant national health problems in Uganda. This project addresses this issue with its purpose which is to change the attitudes of duty bearers and right holders in such a way that they denounce domestic violence at the end of the project. The expected results are that the knowledge and skills on domestic violence of duty bearers who are part of referral system have improved and that they take more constructive action, and that rights-holders awareness on domestic violence has increased. During the project adults and out of school children are trained to act as peers to inform communities about domestic violence and its prevention. In addition, training sessions about for instance gender, conflict resolution and human rights are organized. Relevant stakeholders, such as local leaders, police, health workers and opinion leaders are involved in the trainings. The project benefits directly 554 persons and indirectly an audience of over 5 million people , through media and advocacy work. Journalists are also activated to participate in the project. In order to the external journalists, the local partner organization implementing the project uses its radio channel MamaFM and the newspaper supplement The Other Voice as channels in the project. The project is implemented by ISF's local partner organization Uganda Media Women's Association (UMWA).
