In Sota Southern Ghana the sma...ll godvillage of Joensuu-Ghana Registered Association 16 girls have dropped out from school during the past five years 13 of them due to a teenage pragnancy according to the statistics kept by the teachers. Teenage pregnancies occur already in primary school because kids often start school late and therefore girls may already be14-17yrs old in primary school.Teenage pregnancies are due to gender inequality the attitudes of parents towards teenage pregnancies the attitudes of men and boys towards females and poverty and the high illiteracy level of women which prevents them to know their rights.Early unprotected sex increases the incidences of Hiv/Aids and other STDs.The main objectives of the project are to reduce teenage pregnancies by 30% to halve the number of girl child drop outs to achieve better health which means less incidences of Hiv/Aids STDs malaria and diarrhea the attitude changes among males towards females and poverty reduction through education.Together with the main objectives of our project we are putting into practice also the development political cross cutting objectives; gender equality reducing inequality and through better education climate sustainability too.The main beneficiaries in the project are teenage grils disabled girls included and teenage mothers. The situation of girls cannot however become better without the attitude changes of men boys and mothers so the entire Sota community will be the final beneficiary.The key project activity is the after school club (2-3hrs) five times a week in Sota Basic School.In the club the youth are helped with their assignments basic life skills and hand skills are taught to them they are also given health and ethical education. Small girls will alsohave one club day a week because the earlier you start the better the results.The teachers have already this year started an after school club for girls once a week by the support of Joensuu-Ghana Registered Association.Once a month there is a family day on Saturday with counselling of parents and programme for the families. The school is encouraged to continue their culture group as part of the project to strengthen the roots. Twice a year there will be an excursion.In addition to these a local doctor will lecture to the entire community five times a year and once a year screening will be arranged to find the Hiv-positives and other diseases.

F.a: Yene Raey - My Future

Young people constitute one-th...ird of the total population in Ethiopia, and especially girls and young women are the one who suffer from different harmful practices such as child marriage, female genital mutilation and gender based violence. High dropout rates of girls especially in secondary education correspond directly with age of marriage. These are further complicated by limited access and poor quality of SRH information and services. The project seeks to transform the underlying social norms that contribute to harmful practices and empower adolescents to realize their SRHR. Girls and boys will take an active role in challenging the status quo in their communities, through intergenerational dialogues, peer-to peer-support, awareness raising, and engaging in local level advocacy together with, and as a part of civil society. In order to shift the power relations and change norms in a sustainable way, the project will work closely with families, traditional and religious leaders, communities and duty bearers. It is implemented in 157 kebeles in Amhara, Oromia and SNNPR together with three local partners (Hundee, PADet and KMG) all of them having a long experience in respective areas and partnership with Plan International Ethiopia. By end of the project, adolescents have become more resilient and assertive to decide on their own lives and bodies. They have developed increased confidence and appropriate attitudes to enable them to claim their rights and will have an improved access to information and services relating to their SRHR. At the same time, peers, parents and traditional and religious leaders have been supported to better understand adolescent's rights to such services. Peers, parents and traditional and religious leaders have engaged in actions that demonstrate values of gender equality and do not tolerate gender-based violence including HTPs. Young girls and parents have become economically more resilient and do not need to expose young girls for GBV and other HTPs. CSOs and CBOs are supported in networking and engaging in advocacy actions to support of adolescent SRHR and the right to be free from violence. Government, local authorities and service providers' commitment and capacities have increased to implement existing laws and legislation to provide adolescent friendly SRH services at different levels.

The population demographics of... Lao PDR is characterized by a significant youth population, the % of people ages under 15 years old is currently at 36.7%. The interaction of poverty, cultural, social, health and education factors on the lives of young people in Lao PDR manifests in a number of challenges relating to low gender equality and access to services and opportunities, high rates of child marriage and adolescent birth rates, poor literacy outcomes and limited opportunities to participate in further education, training and employment. The project seeks to address two key challenges: 1) High levels of adolescent pregnancy and child marriage resulting from limited exposure to accessible reproductive and sexual health services and education, and 2) Traditional gender norms, attitudes, and behaviors that mitigate against girls achieving their full potential on an equitable basis with boys. The projects impact goal is for adolescent (10-18 years) girls, mostly from ethnic minorities, to be empowered in their sexual and reproductive health in a society that value girls.The expected results are that a) Girls have adopted attitudes and use relevant information, skills and services to support realisation of their SRH rights, b) Improved community and social environment for adolescent girls such that it supports the realisation of girls' equal opportunities and rights to SRHR, c) CSOs' strengthened to promote norms, attitudes and practices supportive of gender equality and Adolescent SRHR, d) strengthened Government duty bearers with the ability to implement policy related to girls SRHR in Houn District and improved tangible school water and sanitation services in a manner that best meets adolescent girl's needs.The project has brought together two local CSO, the Gender Development Association (GDA) and the Promotion of Family Health Association (PFHA), both with a number of years of experience and proven record of both project implementation and policy dialogue in the area of gender and ASRHR. Plan Laos's government partners will be the Ministry of Education. GDA will work closely with the Lao Women's Union (LWU) to deliver village based sessions on ASRHR, gender and disability inclusion and PFHA will work with the District Health Office and village cluster level health centers (HC's) and health service providers on the provision of youth-friendly SRHR information and services for young people.

F.A: VUTOMI - MY LIFE
|
F.a: Vutomi - My Life
|
The Vutomi project works direc...tly with girls and boys, families and communities, civil society and duty bearers for the fulfilment of sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people aged from 10 to 19. It challenges gender inequality and social norms, including gender based violence. This includes ensuring accessible comprehensive sexual education to gain knowledge, exploring values and attitudes, and developing the skills the adolescents need to make conscious, healthy and respectful choices about relationships and sexuality. Mozambique has the world's 10th highest rate of child marriage, with 48% of girls married by the age of 18, and 14% by 15. Adolescent girls face the threat of gender based violence at schools and their communities, and both girls and boys often lack the skills and the knowledge to make conscious, healthy and respectful choices about relationships and sexuality. The project aims for the empowerment of adolescent girls to enjoy their sexual & reproductive health and rights, free from harmful practices in societies where gender equality is realised. The Project will enhance adolescent girls, including those vulnerable to exclusion, and boys, to increasingly adopt knowledge, attitudes and behaviours supporting informed decision making and realising their SRH rights. Families and communities are also supported so that they adopt better knowledge, attitudes and behaviours that value girls equally, condemn child marriage and all violence against girls and enable better economic and social support for them. Plan supports also civil society to mobilise support for the realisation of girls' SRH rights through advocacy. Duty bearer capacity is improved for better policy implementation, and provision of quality services and interventions to realise girls' SRH rights. The main beneficiary group is adolescent girls and boys of the project area. Local communities, schools, health services and partner staff also benefit from the project. The implementing partner, Associação Mahlahle, based in Maxixe, Inhambane in 1997, works holistically through developing close relations with government at district and provincial levels, and integration into the community, working closely with schools, health posts and key community members for promoting the rights of women and children, with an increasing focus on youth. Important government partners include the local representatives of Ministries of Health, Education, and Gender and Social Action.

Women and girls face significa...nt gender inequalities, discrimination and even violence. Social and cultural norms reinforce gender roles and are contributing factors to decreasing women's active agency as decision makers, leaders, income earners, and consequently impact their right to reproduction, safety from violence, and rights to resources and opportunities. There are very few social support systems and services available. Adolescents, especially adolescent girls, are an often overlooked and under-served population group in interventions. Plan will implement the project in 20 communities in Nyaung?U Township in Mandalay Region, where Plan has been working since 2015. The project is utilizing a four-pronged approach to improve girls' knowledge and capacities in making informed decisions, addressing the social environment regarding gender equality, working with local civil society to create momentum for the realization of girls' rights, and working with government across various levels for influencing. Global Champions of Change curriculum will be adapted for the country context to be followed by a training of trainers and ongoing mentoring for facilitators. Peer-to-peer networks will be established in 20 communities and supported with social empowerment fund to implement youth-led campaigns to claim their SRHR. Village Development Committees?will be?strengthened to tackle harmful norms and promote behaviours that value girls equally. Participation of women, PWDs, adolescents and youth?will be?strengthened,?and?training related to financial management?organized.?Revolving funds?are?provided to 20 target villages as incentives for them to engage in reinforcing positive norms and tackling harmful practices.?Plan?will facilitate community groups in designing and implementing awareness campaigns designed to increase investment in girls and to tackle harmful social norms. In order to address duty-bearers to place adolescent's SRHR on higher priority in policy frameworks and budgets and to deliver quality SRH services, contributions will be made to the Ministry of Health in terms of supporting implementation of the SRHR Policy and National Youth Policy, organizing meetings with the government to identify entry points to support policy implementation and establishing a coalition with likeminded CSO partners, working groups and media stakeholders at both regional and national levels.

Improving sexual rights of per...sons with disabilities in Afghanistan Nepal and Tajikistan

|
Although 15 % of the world?s p...opulation live with a disability many of the PwD are marginalized their human rights are violated and their SRHR are not fully recognized. Therefore this project brings together five expert organizations on SRHR and/or disabilities in Afghanistan Nepal and Tajikistan to realize the sexual rights of PwD so that they can enjoy dignified lives.The project has five mutually supportive outcomes under the themes of capacity building of beneficiaries changing attitudes advocacy capacity building of SRH service providers and learning. To attain OC1:PwD trainers peer educators and family members are trained and CSOs strengthened, OC2: awareness raising activities are held, OC3): political decision makers? capacity is increased, OC4:service providers are trained in disability issues, OC5: best practices to improve SRHR of PwD are identified shared and scaled.Gender equality is an inbuilt component of the project. Addressing the rights of WwD and GwD recognizing the multiple forms of discrimination and mainstreaming gender in disability programming are key priorities. The project advocates for structures and services that are inclusive and accessible to WwD. Climate sustainability is ensured by the climate risk management by the POs. The principal premise is reducing discrimination and inequality of PwD, e.g. targeting lack of access to SRH services and societal stigma.The project will be implemented by Väestöliitto Kynnys MSIA FPAN and Ishtirok. Each partner has strengths and capacity gaps thus the core approach of the project is learning and sharing to identify new approaches to pilot and adopt. RBM and project management will be strengthened throughout the project. MSIA and FPAN are strong SRHR actors and Ishtirok?s strength is their expertise in PwD issues and advancing SRHR of PwD. Kynnys will strengthen the disability expertise and Väestöliitto the SRHR expertise of all partners.Immediate beneficiaries will be PwD and their families disabled couples individuals and peer educators decision makers and government officials sexual health-care providers CSOs and POs in Afghanistan Nepal and Tajikistan.

F.A: NINA AMUA - I DECIDE
|
F.a: Nina Amua - I Decide
|
The Nina amua – I decide pro...ject seeks to reduce the number of child marriages and teenage pregnancies. It aims at an impact of adolescent girls and boys aged 10-19 years from Lango and Acholi sub regions being protected against child marriage and empowered to enjoy their sexual reproductive health rights in a violence free society that values girls. Uganda has one of the highest prevalence rates of child marriage in the world. According to the Uganda Demographic Health Survey 49 % of women age 20-49 were married by age 18. The number of adolescent mothers is also high, 25% of adolescents age 15-19 have begun childbearing. The challenge is worst in the northern part of the country, which has suffered two decades of civil conflict with the Lord Resistance Army (LRA, 1986 – 2006). The project will enhance adolescent girls and boys aged 10-19 years to adopt positive attitudes, knowledge, skills, to be assertive and use appropriate ASRH services to prevent teenage pregnancy and child marriage. The project will work with Families, Communities, Cultural and Religious leaders so that they will adopt positive attitudes and practices to reduce child marriage and create conducive environment for girl's empowerment. The project will also support youth led and focused CSOs so that they can actively influence positive cultural practices. Duty bearers are supported so that girls are protected from child marriage, and local and central government prioritise resource allocation, legal reforms and quality services to end child marriage. The main beneficiary group is adolescent boys and girls. Also local communites, schools, health services and partners benefit from the project. The partners are: Christian Counseling Fellowship (CCF) Pader, Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (UWOPA), Ker Kwaro Acholi and Lango Traditional Kingdom, Foundation for Integrated Rural Development (FIRD) and Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU). These partners either have a strong cultural (Traditional Kingdoms) or political (UWOPA) influence in the project area/policy formulation and/or are active NGO's who are present in the area and thus can help Plan to work for the partners in achieving the results of the project.

Le renforcement de la fonction d’observatoire de l’OOAS par des activités de recherche et d’accompagnement technique aux pays pour l’élaboration de leurs politiques et stratégies et dans l’utilisation des nouvelles technologies de l'information et de la communication ;
La contribution au Mécanisme de financement régional d’achat de contraceptifs ;
Le renforcement des capacités de l’OOAS. (South of Sahara, regional CZZ216401 PROJET REGIONAL DEMSAN p.129)
