|
New Partnerships Initiative: S...COPE (Strengthening Community Health Outcomes through Positive Engagement)
more
|
The Strengthening Community He...alth Outcomes through Positive Engagement (SCOPE) project is a five-year, $28 million award under the New Partnerships Initiative (NPI) which aims to address key drivers of child and maternal morbidity and mortality at the community level in four priority countries (Haiti, Kenya, Malawi, and South Sudan) and to contribute to the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths (PCMD) within a generation. SCOPE's objective is to increase the utilization of reproductive health services for women of reproductive age and increase utilization of primary health care services by children under five years with a focus on increasing demand for a) voluntary family planning and healthy timing and spacing of pregnancy, b) maternity care, c) postpartum and essential newborn care (ENC), and d) timely and appropriate treatment of child illness. The SCOPE project will leverage key delivery mechanisms at the community level in the four focussed countries to implement interventions aimed at shifting behaviors and strengthening community-based services. This includes community health workers (CHWs), various community groups (care groups, savings groups, etc), faith-based institutions and faith actors. The project will also utilize social accountability mechanisms and work with local partners to achieve project objectives.

Medicines, Technologies, and P...harmaceutical Services (MTaPS)
more
|
The goal of MTaPS is to enable... low- and middle-income countries to strengthen their pharmaceutical systems to ensure sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable essential medical products and medicines-related pharmaceutical services. The purpose of MTaPS is to provide pharmaceutical system strengthening assistance for sustained improvements in health system performance, and to advance USAID s goals of Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths, Controlling the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, and Combatting Infectious Disease Threats, as well as expanding essential health coverage. MTaPS works to strengthen essential areas of the pharmaceutical sector, including regulatory capacity, supply chain management, pharmaceutical financing and services, and pharmaceutical management information systems. Within this context, MTaPS addresses USG priority health elements including malaria, HIV/AIDS, family planning and reproductive health, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases, and the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). MTaPS focuses on enhancing pharmaceutical services through patient-centered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The MTaPS result areas address the five health systems components (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) as they pertain to pharmaceutical management, informing the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross-cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.

Strengthening Egypts Family Pl...anning Program (SEFPP)
more
|
Strengthening Egypts Family Pl...anning Program (SEFPP), a five-year, USAID-funded activity, works with the GOE to strengthen its family planning system and integrate family planning into the GOEs maternal health and other health programs. SEFPP builds upon the significant achievements the GOE, donors, and the private sector have had in the family planning sector, in addition to JSIs previous successful work in Egypt. The project aims to create sustainable solutions that will help address Egypts growing population by increasing the use of family planning methods and promoting healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies. Project implementation is focused on the nine governorates of Upper Egypt and the slums of Cairo and Alexandria.

The activity will support NUPs to increase their managerial, financial, and administrative capacities to enhance their ability to not only receive direct support from USAID but also be more engaged partners within local health systems. 2. Expand utilization of high-quality, high-impact health services, information and supplies expanded: Participating NUPs will contribute to enhancing the supply and utilization of high-quality, integrated health services, with a focus on reaching underserved populations. NPI EXPAND supports this evolution by fostering the technical skills of providers, the expansion of services offered, quality assurance systems, and introducing cost-effective demand creation techniques that can be integrated in the service delivery setting. 3. Increase sustainability of promising and innovative health approaches scaled-up through new an

The project will strengthen the role of civil society in malaria and maternal and child health advocacy by training local NGOs in governmental policies that affect health, effective methods of tracking government health resources, and evidence-based advocacy skills.

The Health Systems Strengtheni...ng Accelerator (HSSA) is a 5-year global project. It will provide a global platform to connect locally-driven health system innovations with global knowledge, accelerate countries' journeys to self-reliant health systems, and improve the institutional architecture for evidence-based and sustainable health system strengthening. This project will address persistent health systems problems at the local and global levels through understanding of problems and root causes, evidence translation, innovation and iterative adaptation, understanding of motivation, incentives, and political dynamics, and focusing on institutionalization and sustainability.

DEVELOPING ACUTE CARE AND EMER...GENCY REFERRAL SYSTEMS(ACERS)

Developing Acute Care and Emer...gency Referral Systems(ACERS)
more

The Developing Acute Care and ...Emergency Referral Systems Project assesses the added value of a program of implementation research, action, and capacity building to timely care-seeking behavior and effective referrals to improve maternal and neonatal care in two regions of Ghana. Project efforts build off the Three Delay Model, with a focus on the second and third delay for obstetric and neonatal emergencies. Ghana continues to experience high maternal and neonatal mortality rates despite a well-organized, decentralized system of health care. Additionally, the lack of policies and guidelines for comprehensive care at the district level have resulted in emergency care and referral initiatives that are not well-coordinated and have unknown efficacy and impact. The ACERS project will augment the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) platform with activities around acute care and emergency referral systems from the community to the district level, seeking to prove that separate components of care can be assembled into a sustainable single system with scale-up capabilities. ACERS will be woven into the fabric of Ghana s regional, district, and community health system structures to ensure the implementation of a sustainable and scalable model. This implementation research effort, co-managed and co-financed by USAID Ghana, supports the Government of Ghana s vision of improved service delivery and progress towards self-reliance.
