Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

USAID/Democratic Republic of t...he Congo (DRC) and the World Bank/DRC are combining resources to support the DRC Ministry of Health's program on Health System Strengthening for Better Maternal and Child Health Results. The objective of this project is to improve the utilization and quality of maternal and child health services in targeted areas. This will be achieved by increasing the availability of a minimum package of services as well as by strengthening the management of the health commodity supply chain. Specifically, USAID's resources will support the institutionalization of performance-based financing and joint solutions with the World Bank to address bottlenecks to health commodities supply chain management.

BREAKTHROUGH-ACTION
|
Breakthrough-ACTION
|
Breakthrough-ACTION will use s...tate-of-the-art, evidence-based tools to encourage people in developing countries to adopt healthy behaviors, from using modern contraceptive methods to sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV. Much of the work will harness the power of communication - from mass media campaigns to TV and radio dramas to simple posters in a health clinic - to inspire long-lasting change. The project will also take advantage of other behavioral science approaches such as behavioral economics and human-centered design to improve programs. The program - which builds on a prior five-year, 31-country project called the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) - is expected to be double the size. It will be led by CCP who will partner with Save the Children, ideas42, ThinkPlace Kenya and Camber Collective. Breakthrough-ACTION will also be supported in the field by ActionSprout, the International Center for Research on Women and Human Network International. CCP is based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

This will be achieved by strengthening health systems, governance, and leadership at provincial, health zone, and facility levels; increasing access to quality, integrated health services; and increasing adoption of healthy behaviors, including through improved care seeking of health services. USAID's Integrated Health Program (IHP) will serve approximately 30 million people in nine provinces, covering an estimated 30 percent of the Congolese population. High-impact and innovative approaches will be tested, scaled, and rigorously documented to promote continuous collaboration, learning, and adapting. Cross-sectoral, integrated approaches to strengthening resilience capacities at the individual, household, community, and system levels will drive USAID's IHP in all targeted health zones, each of which will receive its own, tailored support package developed in collaboration with other co-located mechanisms. The activity will provide a platform for linkages with Breakthrough-ACTION, Global TB Challenge, Food for Peace's DFSAs, FtF's Strengthening Value Chains, CARPE, and the integrated youth, education, and governance activities. The mechanism will also contribute to USAID's Global Water Directive by implementing appropriate community-based approaches for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of water sources. Sanitation activities will increase demand for sanitation-related products and services through, for example, community-led total sanitation.

The Health Policy Project (HPP...) works to strengthen developing country national and subnational policy, advocacy, governance, and finance for strategic, equitable, and sustainable health programming. HPP helps countries bring about real change in the health of people and communities. We work with in-country partners to sustain commitment to and ownership of policy responses that support improvements in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), HIV, and maternal health.
more
|
Globally, HPP contributes to i...mproved health outcomes through strengthening the efficiency, effectiveness, and equity of health systems in a multi-sectoral context. HPP focuses on the policy aspects of health and other social sectors, often in a multi-sectoral context. We also assist countries to improve health outcomes by addressing barriers due to gender inequalities, socioeconomic status, stigma and discrimination, operational issues, and other factors that prevent people from seeking the health and related social services they need. Throughout our work, we are committed to encouraging in-country capacity for policy, advocacy, governance, and finance. For additional information on HPP see www.healthpolicyproject.com. (https://jobpaw.com/public/detailsjob.php?idjob=5595)
In Haiti, HPP has been asked to implement the USAID-funded for the Aksyon Kolektif pou Sekirite kont Eksplwatasyon (AKSE) Program which supports a multi-sectoral approach to strengthen the Haitian environment for human rights in general and for vulnerable populations, in particular, children, women, and sexual minorities. AKSE was previously implemented by CARE International. HPP will build on the work of the previous project from March 2014 through at least September 2015, with potential for extension.

Australia is seeking to establ...ish a capability to rapidly deploy qualified and trained power-line workers into post-disaster environments. The return of a safe electricity supply is key to social and economic recovery following a disaster. This new humanitarian response mechanism will decrease the time taken to restore critical electricity services to save lives. This includes maintaining the operation of hospitals and health facilities . The total estimated value of this investment is $0.6 million to be expensed over 3 years, starting in 2018-19.

|
This Investment will improve t...he region's capacity to detect emerging and re-emerging infectious disease threats ans therefore respond earlier - reducing the risk to the region and ourselves. It will enable partner countries to benefit from Australian expertise and experience in health security while providing Australia with timely access to shared data on emerging infectious diseases in animals and humans and expanded scope for research of relevance to all. This investment will build on existing OIE-funded projects by twinning the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) with ASEAN designated regional animal health reference laboratories in Thailand and Vietnam to improve their ability to perform their functions. In Indonesia, AAHL will support the Indonesian national avian influenza reference laboratory (Wates) to fulfil its support role for human and animal provincial laboratories.

TRANSLATING RESEARCH INTO ACTI...ON (TRACTION) PROJECT
more
|
Translating Research into Acti...on (TRAction) Project
more
|
The purpose of the Translating... Research into Action (TRAction) Project is to accelerate the introduction and scale up of approaches and interventions that when implemented in programs will reduce mortality and severe morbidity in women, newborns and young children. There is a preponderance of evidence on the potential impact of specific maternal, neonatal and child health interventions yet the successful implementation and scale-up of these in countries remains a challenge. TRAction will address this knowledge gap by managing research, introduction and evaluation activities on how to effectively deliver, increase utilization, achieve coverage, and scale-up evidence based newborn, child, maternaland integrated MNCH health and nutrition tools, approaches, interventions and policies that are relevant to field programs.

WHO identified the shortage of... functional medical equipment in low-income countries as a critical barrier to meeting the health-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The public-private partnership with Project C.U.R.E. will increase USAID's contribution to health systems strengthening (HSS) in DRC through the provision of quality and customized medical equipment and supplies to healthcare facilities in USAID supported health zones, supporting all sectors of the health program, including TB and FP. Project C.U.R.E. will obtain donations of equipment from medical manufacturers, wholesale suppliers, and hospitals in the United States and will plan the shipments according to the priority needs of the country. Project C.U.R.E. will be compliant with the WHO Guidelines for Equipment Donations and relevant US government policies. USAID anticipates that this investment will contribute to improved quality of care and increased demand for services in USAID supported facilities.

Accelovate
|
The purpose of this program is... to develop, introduce, and support the scale-up of new health tools and technologies. These tools and technologies are appropriate, affordable and acceptable for distribution and use in low-resource settings to accelerate reductions in mortality and morbidity in low resource settings. Accelovate will help to overcome technical, supply, or policy hurdles to adapt and advance effective technologies through innovations in the value chain and promotion of mainstream use. Significant emphasis will be placed on field introduction and scaleup.
