Child Survival and Health Gran...ts Program (CSHGP) - Save the Children (Malawi) - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
The CSHGP facilitates a dynami...c partnership between USAID and private and voluntary organizations (PVOs)/NGOs. Through the CSHGP, USAID leverages the development entrepreneurship and know how of PVOs/NGOs and their local partners for innovative and effective community-oriented programming that sustainably improves maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes, strengthens local and community health systems, and contributes to reductions in morbidity and mortality. PVOs/NGOs, with their local partners (national and local MOH, local NGOs/CBOs, communities), implement in a range of settings, from remote communities in a single district to multiple districts or a province. Projects address critical health needs of vulnerable populationsand work strategically with a systems approach at the household, community, health facility, and policy levels and strengthens linkages as relevant.

|
USAID's Every Preemie - SCALE ...(Scaling, Catalyzing, Advocating, Learning, Evidence Driven) activity will scale up underutilized evidence-based interventions for preterm birth (PTB) and low birth weight (LBW) babies. This will improve the capacity of Malawi's health facilities to effectively care for PTB and LBW babies.FY 2015 activities include: -Conducting situational assessments on PTB and LBW health in Malawi;-Conducting implementation research on barriers to PTB and LBW intervention uptake;-Demonstrating how to implement rapid scale-up of PTB and LBW interventions at the community and health facility levels; and-Collaborating on newborn survival strategies with USAID's flagship Maternal and Child Survival Project. These activities will result in increased capacity and improved performance at facility and community levels as well as increased newborn survival rates. The activities will also contribute to the shared USAID and GOM goal of ending preventable child deaths.

SIAPS focuses on enhancing pha...rmaceutical services through patientcentered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The SIAPS goal is to support the achievement of improved and sustained health outcomes by applying a systems strengthening approach consistent with the Global Health Initiative (GHI) principles. The SIAPS result areas address the intersections of five health systems components as they pertain to pharmaceutical services (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) in the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.

Social and Behavior Change Com...munications (SBCC) and Social Marketing (SM) Activity - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg Sc...hool of Public Healths Center for Communication Programs (CCP) was awarded a five-year grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)s mission in Mali to conduct social and behavior change communication and social marketing (SBCC/SM) activities in that country. Grant activity will strengthen Malians ability to lead healthy, productive lives by promoting malaria prevention and treatment, good nutrition and hygiene practices as well as reproductive health behaviors like family planning. Pairing social and behavior change communication with social marketing, the initiative will inspire households to acquire healthy behaviors and give them access to life-saving health products.

MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. and we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

Health Policy Plus (HP+) proje...ct - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
The purpose of the Health Poli...cy Plus (HP+) project is to improve the enabling environment for equitable and sustainable health services, supplies and delivery systems through policy development and implementation, with an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal and child health (MCH), and HIV and AIDS. It is expected that work across health policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, in a highly coordinated and collaborative approach and with attention to gender equality and equity issues, will be required to achieve the project purpose. This project will leverage previous USG investments in the areas of policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, preserve the progress made to date, and ensure progression toward stated objectives.

INTEGRATED GORONGOSA NATIONAL ...PARK AND BUFFER ZONE PROJECT - MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH
more
|
Integrated Gorongosa National ...Park and Buffer Zone Project - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
Located in Sofala Province, a ...priority USAID province, Gorongosa National Park (GNP) once boasted some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Southern Africa. Although decimated by civil war and its aftermath, wildlife is now recovering. Land use adjacent to the Park mostly consists of agriculture combined with mining, forestry and hunting concessions in certain areas. Biodiversity conservation is strongly linked with human and economic development of surrounding communities in order to guarantee sustainability. The USG supports a range of activities under an umbrella Global Development Alliance to ensure the long-term viability of the GNP by addressing the biodiversity and human needs in and around the park. Issues like poaching and deforestation are also being addressed by working directly with farmers in the buffer zone to increase their yields and incomes. By providing alternative nutrition sources other than poached meat and access to basic health care, like child immunization, malaria prevention and treatment, breastfeeding, and reproductive health services, this improves the overall health of the communities and reduces pressure on the natural resources. With FY 2014 funding, this project will increase key species populations, improve park management, and build on results of the population and environment public health evaluation to improve health conditions of the isolated population in the surrounding buffer zone

Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH) - Maternal and Child Health
more
|

Since 1988, the U.S. Census Bu...reau has worked with USAIDs Bureau for Global Health to enhance the quantity, quality, and utility of HIV/AIDS-related data. These data are used for policy development, program formulation, and monitoring and evaluation, and form anintegral part of USAIDs work in combating HIV/AIDS. Applying its extensive experience in epidemiological data base projections and population projection modeling, the Census Bureau has contributed to the USAID program with support in monitoring the spread of HIV and in understanding the effect the AIDS pandemic has on development.
