The APHIAplus (AIDS, Populatio...n and Health Integrated Assistance Plus) program is a health services delivery program funded by USAID. The program supports the implementation of health services development plans. The programs stakeholders are Kenyan governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, faith-based organizations, and the private sector. To improve health outcomes, the program supports the provinces to maximize their existing service delivery capacity; integrate maternal, newborn, and child health, nutrition, water, and sanitation interventions; and apply resources to existing programs that allow the provinces to more quickly address social determinants of health, especially for poor, marginalized, and underserved populations.

The objective of the USAID App...lying Science to Strengthen and Improve Systems (ASSIST) Project is to improve the quality and outcomes of health care and other services by enabling host country providers and managers to apply the science of improvement. The project seeks to build the capacity of host country service delivery organizations in USAID-assisted countries to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, client-centeredness, safety, accessibility, and equity of the health and family services they provide. USAID ASSIST also seeks to institutionalize the capacity to improve through competency development at the pre- and in-service levels as well as engaging with host country governments at the policy level.

Kenya Medical Supplies Agency ...(KEMSA) is a customer-focused integrated medical logistics provider for all public health facilities in Kenya. As a State Corporation, KEMSA is a secure source of value-for-money drugs and other medical supplies to over 5,000 facilities. KEMSA has also received substantial TA and support from USAID in human resource capacity building through the deployment of key advisors in areas of business development, procurement, IT and supply chain management. With USAID support, KEMSA has invested in an effective Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system that has led to the full automation and integration of KEMSA operations and overall business processes, resulting in greater efficiency and improved service delivery. KEMSA's fully automated central warehouse in Nairobi is now functioning under the platform of a Warehouse Module System hosted by the ERP. This has significantly improved efficiency in inventory management and processing of health facilities requirements. KEMSA has successfully implemented the Framework Contract system, and all current procurements are aligned to KEMSAs strategic and business plan with enhanced visibility of all health care commodities in the supply chain. Currently KEMSA has a total allocation of KES 5.3 Billion ($60m) for essential medical supplies, approximately KES7.0 billion ($85m) for programs such as HIV, malaria and tuberculosis. KEMSA has been appointed as the procurement agent for the GFATM R10 procurements, and the USG is confident that KEMSA is re.ady to start handling some PEPFAR commodities. This is a new award, and no vehicle procurement is planned. This activity supports GHI/LLC and is funded primarily with pipeline funds in this budget cycle.

KEMSA MCP will procure, warehouse and distribute medications and equipment funded by PEPFAR, the Presidents Malaria Initiative and USAID Global Health programs for maternal and child health and family planning. Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH) - Maternal and Child Health

|
MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. and we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

Child Survival and Health Gran...ts Program (CSHGP) - International Rescue Committee - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
The CSHGP facilitates a dynami...c partnership between USAID and private and voluntary organizations (PVOs)/NGOs. Through the CSHGP, USAID leverages the development entrepreneurship and know how of PVOs/NGOs and their local partners for innovative and effective community-oriented programming that sustainably improves maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes, strengthens local and community health systems, and contributes to reductions in morbidity and mortality. PVOs/NGOs, with their local partners (national and local MOH, local NGOs/CBOs, communities), implement in a range of settings, from remote communities in a single district to multiple districts or a province. Projects address critical health needs of vulnerable populationsand work strategically with a systems approach at the household, community, health facility, and policy levels and strengthens linkages as relevant.

Global Communities will be pro...moting water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities in Bong, Nimba and Lofa Counties over the next five years. A large focus will be its Community-Led Total Sanitation Plus (CLTS+) approach, which results in healthy communities through sanitation training and access to latrines. The project will also improve Liberians access to other sanitation needs by installing hand pumps and promoting entrepreneurship in soap-making and maintaining hand pumps.

Increase of the use of quality... health services and products to underserved populations living in rural and difficult to reach areas of the Northern and Western regions of Madagascar
more
|
The USAID-funded Madagascar Co...mmunity-Based Integrated Health Project (CBIHP), known locally as MAHEFA, was a five-year health program that provided basic, quality health care to isolated populations in six north and northwestern regions of Madagascar (DIANA, SAVA, Sofia, Menabe, Boeny and Melaky). The program’s overarching goal was to increase the use of proven, community-based interventions and essential products among underserved populations of Madagascar. Activities focused on improving access to and use of an integrated package of maternal, newborn, and child health services, family planning, and improving safe water, hygiene, and sanitation. The program continues to be known for innovative solutions to reaching remote communities, documented improvements in community health, and collaborative work with local NGOs, the Malagasy Ministry of Health, civil society organizations, and community leaders.

The purpose of the Health Poli...cy Plus (HP+) project is to improve the enabling environment for equitable and sustainable health services, supplies and delivery systems through policy development and implementation, with an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal and child health (MCH), and HIV and AIDS. It is expected that work across health policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, in a highly coordinated and collaborative approach and with attention to gender equality and equity issues, will be required to achieve the project purpose. This project will leverage previous USG investments in the areas of policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, preserve the progress made to date, and ensure progression toward stated objectives.

Strengthened Child Health Care.../BASICS - Maternal and Child Health
more
|
BASICS' mission was to help Mi...nistries of Health and their partners implement large-scale, evidence-based interventions that have been proven to be effective in preventing and treating the major causes of newborn and childhood death. These include malaria, pneumonia, diarrheal diseases, malnutrition, birth complications, and HIV/AIDS. Because most infants and children in developing countries have limited or no access to the formal health system, BASICS placed strong emphasis on improving the reach of health programs through community-based treatment, including private sector drug distribution.
