|
The programme aims to save the... lives of, reduce suffering of and maintain dignity of, those affected by the Syria crisis in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt. It addresses critical humanitarian needs through a range of interventions which have been weighted as follows:
1. Food - 25%
2. Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) – 15%
3. Health – 20%
4. Shelter and Non-food items (NFIs)15%
5. Agriculture/ Livelihoods – 5%
6. Protection – 10% --> composed of safe areas for children; psychological support for adults; SGBV
7. Education – 5%
8. Enabling activities – 5%
The output weighting reflects both prioritisation of needs and the approximate share of the budget. The weighting remains the same for the next phase of the programme.

UK contribution to the Europea...n Union Emergency Trust Fund for stability and addressing root causes of irregular migration and displaced persons in A
more
|
To work through the EU Emergen...cy Trust Fund to promote stability in three regions of Africa and enable better migration management. This will be achieved by tackling the root causes of forced displacement and irregular migration through creating job opportunities, improving food security and access to health and education services. It will work to improve regional migration management processes including fighting human trafficking and other trans-border crimes, helping people return to their countries of origin and dealing with human rights abuses. This UK contribution will support programmes in development in the Horn of Africa: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. This project was approved before the referendum on the UK's membership of the EU. Work is now under way to understand the implications of leaving the EU for the UK's development work.

Change! - Since August 2017, m...ore than 600.000 people have crossed into Bangladesh from Myanmar fleeing violence in Rakhine State. After walking for several days or taking a boat, they often arrive exhausted and traumatized in the camps in Cox's Bazar. While people keep crossing the border, the ICRC has been one of the first responders to provide the basics of life: Food, water and health care to the stranded families in border areas. Since August we provided assistance to more than 55.000 people with food, 13,142 patients received treatment from our mobile health services, over 17.000 benefited from our water, sanitation and hygiene interventions and almost 6.000 people were able to contact their family members through our phone call services.

Agencies - CAR refugees
World Food Programme (WFP) Cameroon Food and nutrition support
UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Cameroon Emergency multi-sector assistance
(CAF 205286-101 Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) funding for the Central African Republic Humanitarian and Recovery Programme (CHURP) in 2016 p.2). ICRC supported 12,700 households (63,000 people) affected by conflict and other violence – notably returnees and Internally Displaced People (IDPs) – with seed, tools and disease-resistant cassava cuttings to grow more food. They also received two rounds of food aid, to avoid consuming seed meant for planting or harvesting crops early. Nearly 5,700 herding households (some 28,500 people) maintained or improved the health and market value of their livestock after 59,600 animals belonging to them were vaccinated against disease. Some 1,000 breadwinners (supporting 5,000 people) covered part of their household expenses with money earned through cash-for-work projects to cultivate cassava cuttings for their communities; another 394 (supporting 1,970 people) repaired cattle corrals used during vaccination activities. More than 68,200 people living in rural and semi-urban areas had more clean water for household consumption and livelihood purposes after wells and pumps were constructed and repaired by the ICRC, and maintained by the National Society. Returnees and IDPs also received food rations (1,445 households; 7,225 people) and essential household items (52,300 people) to help them meet their immediate needs; among them, around 330 households (over 1,500 people) who had returned to their places of origin rebuilt their homes using ICRC-provided shelter materials. ICRC delivered medical services at two hospitals, with an ICRC surgical team at the hospital in Bangui, and renewed support to the hospital in Kaga Bandoro, and provided emergency transport, including evacuations by plane for critical cases. ICRC was not able to deploy planned mobile clinics due to insecurity, hence two ICRC-supported health centres carried out a total of 53,308 consultations and 143 patients who required emergency medical attention were referred to an ICRC-supported hospital.
ICRC has surpassed targets for water and sanitation infrastructure: in the absence of another actor with the capacity to do so, ICRC carried out major infrastructure and water treatment work on the water system in Bangui. With DFID and other donors’ support, some 615,000 people in urban areas had a better supply of safe water after ICRC support. Moreover 72,700 IDPs had more clean water after the ICRC trucked it in and repaired facilities at their sites. They also had access to latrines, and learnt more about good hygiene practices.
ICRC supported victims of sexual violence at two clinics and a counselling centre where 292 survivors received psychosocial support (30 of which through DFID support). Information sessions on the consequences of violence – particularly the importance of post-exposure prophylactic treatment for victims of sexual violence within 72 hours of an assault – were provided to prevent the stigmatisation of victims and to encourage referral. Following this, 78% of the victims of sexual violence treated at ICRC-supported facilities received care within 72 hours of their assault, up from an average of 38% in the latter half of 2015. ICRC also continued to work with a local organisation that produced assistive devices for disabled people. Moreover, ICRC carried out a range of protection activities oriented towards weapons bearers, authorities and civilians. Although not captured in the output indicators, it should be noted that ICRC carried out vaccinations and malnutrition screening, and provided treatment for 2,400 severely malnourished children at 5 health facilities. These children and their families (around 8,700 people) also received food rations or financial assistance.
