United Nations Office for the ...Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), contribution to the Human Response Fund (HRF)
more
|
The Humanitarian Response Fund... (HRF) has allocated funds in emergency assistance, addressing sectoral needs in major emergencies stemming from hazards such as drought, floods and disease outbreaks, including complex emergencies such as displacement consequences. In order to address the most pressing cross-sectoral needs, the HRF has focused particular attention on non-food needs such as emergency health, nutrition, water, sanitation, non-food items, and agriculture and livestock interventions, but also protection services (IDPs, stranded migrants). The overall goal is to cover emergency requirements in Ethiopia in areas where there are gaps in humanitarian response by providing UN Agencies and NGOs with a rapid and flexible funding mechanism to meet short-term emergency priorities of vulnerable communities. The objective is to provide initial funding so that humanitarian partners can respond to a crisis without delay.

STRENGTHENING RESILIENCE AND R...EINTEGRATION OF CHILDREN FORMERLY ASSOCIATED WITH ARMED GROUPS AND CONFLICT-AFFECTED CHILDREN IN NORTH-EAST NIGERIA
more
|
Strengthening resilience and r...eintegration of children formerly associated with armed groups and conflict-affected children in north-east Nigeria
more
|
Millions of children suffer fr...om the ongoing conflict in north-eastern Nigeria. Girls and boys are exposed to extreme levels of violence including the recruitment and use, sexual violence, killing and maiming. Many children have lost their families and friends and suffer from the harsh living conditions as a result of the conflict. The project will provide mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) as well as educational and socio-economic reintegration services to victims of violence, with a special focus on child recruits and survivors of sexual violence. It will also provide child protection services to the larger communities to strengthen their resilience and protection environment. The project will strengthen Switzerland's overall positioning regarding the children and armed conflict thematic debate in the Lake Chad region.

The coalition on Safeguarding ...Health in Conflict is an important common endeavour of Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs) and Academics, who, complementary to the Health Care in Danger Project of the International Committee of the Red Cross(ICRC), work on several levels to improve the protection of the medical mission in conflict and, through the long-term effects of attack, the health system more widely. The coalition has established itself as an important actor by a) monitor, report and disseminate information on attacks, b) support member states and UN agencies to work on the challenge and c) to advocate for the prevention of and the accountability for attacks. The support by Switzerland is embedded in a larger endeavour on policy level to contribute to better protection of the medical mission and to the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2286 (including through an informal group of states in Geneva and the Group of Friends for the Protection of Civilians in New York).

STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITIES O...F COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANISATIONS (CBOS) SERVING MIGRANTS IN EGYPT
more
|
Strengthening the capacities o...f Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) serving migrants in Egypt
more
|
In Egypt, Community Based Orga...nisations (CBOs) are key actors in responding to migrant's[1] basic needs. These include child and adult education, emergency assistance, medical and legal services. The project strengthens the ability of these organisations to provide these much-needed services. Moreover, CBOs will be empowered to advocate for migrant's needs in the donor community and with decision makers. Reliable and sustainable services for migrants in Egypt also serve the migration interests of Switzerland. [1] The term migrant in this proposal includes refugees, asylum seekers, new arrivals in the pre-refugee status determination phase, (all nationalities identified by UNHCR) and vulnerable migrants (irregular and regular) residing in Egypt.

Access to public primary healt...h care for migrants and Egyptians is a serious challenge. By the means of two Mobile Clinics, the project will answer to immediate medical needs of migrants and Egyptians in Greater Cairo. Advocacy on protection and health issues among decision makers will contribute to filling the gaps in service delivery. Thanks to its experience and ongoing engagement in health and protection in Egypt, Switzerland is well placed to provide early recovery and self-resilience interventions.

|

SDC will support IFRC and the ...Colombian Red Cross in reducing vulnerabilities of migrants along their routes between Venezuela and Colombia, in complementarity with the response of the Government of Colombia and the international community. The project –which is part of a regional strategy of IFRC– aims at providing humanitarian assistance to migrants along their migratory routes in terms of information, basic and primary health services, psychosocial support, family reunification and migration related issues. It will also contribute to strengthening the capacities of Red Cross National Society to respond to migrants' needs and other kind of crisis in the future.

(CAF 205286-101 Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) funding for the Central African Republic Humanitarian and Recovery Programme (CHURP) in 2016 p.2). ICRC supported 12,700 households (63,000 people) affected by conflict and other violence – notably returnees and Internally Displaced People (IDPs) – with seed, tools and disease-resistant cassava cuttings to grow more food. They also received two rounds of food aid, to avoid consuming seed meant for planting or harvesting crops early. Nearly 5,700 herding households (some 28,500 people) maintained or improved the health and market value of their livestock after 59,600 animals belonging to them were vaccinated against disease. Some 1,000 breadwinners (supporting 5,000 people) covered part of their household expenses with money earned through cash-for-work projects to cultivate cassava cuttings for their communities; another 394 (supporting 1,970 people) repaired cattle corrals used during vaccination activities. More than 68,200 people living in rural and semi-urban areas had more clean water for household consumption and livelihood purposes after wells and pumps were constructed and repaired by the ICRC, and maintained by the National Society. Returnees and IDPs also received food rations (1,445 households; 7,225 people) and essential household items (52,300 people) to help them meet their immediate needs; among them, around 330 households (over 1,500 people) who had returned to their places of origin rebuilt their homes using ICRC-provided shelter materials. ICRC delivered medical services at two hospitals, with an ICRC surgical team at the hospital in Bangui, and renewed support to the hospital in Kaga Bandoro, and provided emergency transport, including evacuations by plane for critical cases. ICRC was not able to deploy planned mobile clinics due to insecurity, hence two ICRC-supported health centres carried out a total of 53,308 consultations and 143 patients who required emergency medical attention were referred to an ICRC-supported hospital.
ICRC has surpassed targets for water and sanitation infrastructure: in the absence of another actor with the capacity to do so, ICRC carried out major infrastructure and water treatment work on the water system in Bangui. With DFID and other donors’ support, some 615,000 people in urban areas had a better supply of safe water after ICRC support. Moreover 72,700 IDPs had more clean water after the ICRC trucked it in and repaired facilities at their sites. They also had access to latrines, and learnt more about good hygiene practices.
ICRC supported victims of sexual violence at two clinics and a counselling centre where 292 survivors received psychosocial support (30 of which through DFID support). Information sessions on the consequences of violence – particularly the importance of post-exposure prophylactic treatment for victims of sexual violence within 72 hours of an assault – were provided to prevent the stigmatisation of victims and to encourage referral. Following this, 78% of the victims of sexual violence treated at ICRC-supported facilities received care within 72 hours of their assault, up from an average of 38% in the latter half of 2015. ICRC also continued to work with a local organisation that produced assistive devices for disabled people. Moreover, ICRC carried out a range of protection activities oriented towards weapons bearers, authorities and civilians. Although not captured in the output indicators, it should be noted that ICRC carried out vaccinations and malnutrition screening, and provided treatment for 2,400 severely malnourished children at 5 health facilities. These children and their families (around 8,700 people) also received food rations or financial assistance.
