February 2016 - The humanitari...an situation in Cameroon's Far North Region deteriorated significantly through 2015 as Boko Haram violence increasingly spilled across the Nigerian border. The resulting influx of over 60,000 Nigerian refugees and the internal displacement of over 150,000 people is placing growing pressure on what was already the poorest and most vulnerable region of Cameroon. The number of people needing food assistance in 2016 nearly doubled from 2015, rising from 1 to 2 million, while acute malnutrition rates in the Far North are at emergency levels. Growing insecurity has also constrained the ability of humanitarian actors to reach those most in need of assistance. With DFATD's support, L'Oeuvre Léger is helping to assist up to 31,300 vulnerable conflict-affected people in Cameroon's Far North Region. Project activities include: (1) constructing/rehabilitating 21 water points benefitting up to 15,000 people; (2) distributing non-food items benefitting up to 4,000 people; (3) providing primary health care services benefitting up to 5,000 people; (4) screening and treatment of acute malnutrition benefitting up to 300 children under five and the provision of nutritional supplements benefitting up to 2,500 people; (5) providing support for income generating activities benefitting up to 4,500 people. / Février 2016 - La situation humanitaire dans la région de l'Extrême Nord du Cameroun s'est détériorée de manière considérable tout au long de 2015, alors que la violence de Boko Haram s'est propagée de plus en plus au-delà de la frontière nigériane. L'afflux de plus de 60 000 réfugiés nigérians et le déplacement interne de plus de 150 000 personnes exercent une pression croissante sur la région, qui était déjà la plus pauvre et la plus vulnérable du Cameroun. Le nombre de personnes ayant besoin d'aide alimentaire en 2016 a presque doublé depuis 2015, passant de 1 à 2 millions, tandis que les taux de malnutrition aigue dans l'Extrême Nord sont à des niveaux d'urgence. L'insécurité grandissante a également limité la capacité des intervenants humanitaires d'atteindre ceux qui ont le plus besoin d'aide. Avec le soutien du MAECD, l'Å'uvre Léger contribue à aider jusqu'à 31 300 personnes vulnérables touchées par le conflit dans la région de l'Extrême Nord du Cameroun. Les activités de projet comprennent ce qui suit : 1) la construction ou la réhabilitation de 21 points d'eau bénéficiant 15 000 personnes; 2) la distribution de produits non alimentaires à quelque 4 000 personnes; 3) la prestation de services de santé primaire à quelque 5 000 personnes; 4) le dépistage et le traitement de la malnutrition aigue pour 300 enfants de moins de cinq ans en plus de la dotation en intrants nutritionnels bénéficiant 2 500 personnes; 5) l'offre d'un soutien concernant les activités productrices de revenus pour jusqu'à 4 500 personnes.

The International Committee of... the Red Cross' (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC provides assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. This funding supports regional appeals for Asia and the Americas. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting those who are vulnerable to abuse during hostilities by providing comprehensive hospital care and access to water and restoration of livelihoods; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise in areas such as promotion of international humanitarian law, restoring family links and health care provision in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. Le CICR apporte un soutien aux personnes touchées et aide à prévenir d'autres souffrances au moyen de la promotion et du renforcement du droit international humanitaire et des principes humanitaires universels. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, les opérations d'urgence du CICR visent à offrir une protection, de l'assistance alimentaire, des services de santé, un soutien aux moyens de subsistance et d'autres services essentiels aux populations touchées par des conflits armés et d'autres situations de violence, de même qu'à promouvoir le respect pour le droit international humanitaire. Ce financement soutient les appels pour les pays en Afrique du Nord, en Afrique occidentale et au Moyen-Orient. January 2016 - The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. With GAC's support and that of other donors, this project provides assistance and protection to people of concern in 20 countries. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation, and health services; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) protection, including sexual and gender-based violence, child protection, and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. / Janvier 2016 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) dirige et coordonne l'action internationale pour protéger les réfugiés et régler les problèmes des réfugiés dans le monde entier, protéger les personnes déplacées dans leur propre pays et les apatrides et chercher des solutions durables à leur situation dramatique. Grâce au soutien du MAECD et d'autres donateurs, ce projet apporte assistance et protection aux personnes prises en charge dans 20 pays. March 2016 - Following a coup ...d'état in March 2013, the humanitarian situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) deteriorated rapidly, as inter-communal violence spun out of control and led to thousands of deaths, massive human displacement, and grave human rights abuses. Despite a transitional government in place and the presence of international troops, including a 10,000-person strong United Nations peacekeeping mission (MINUSCA), communities across CAR continue to be plagued by violence, armed criminality, and widespread humanitarian needs. At present, more than 2.3 million people, more than half the population, require humanitarian assistance, over 480,000 people are internally displaced, and 450,000 are living in neighbouring countries as refugees. Widespread insecurity and looting of humanitarian actors are hindering their ability to respond to needs relating to widespread food insecurity, high levels of child malnutrition, and maternal and child mortality rates among the highest in the world. With GAC's support, Concern Worldwide is improving the food security of households and the nutritional status of children and vulnerable women in the Lobaye region, benefitting up to 39,843 people. The project focuses on providing health and nutrition services, improving feeding and hygiene practices, supporting agricultural production and income levels, and enhancing access to clean water and sanitation services. Project activities include: (1) constructing or rehabilitating up to 18 water points; (2) constructing six latrine blocks for health facilities; (3) completing a community-based hygiene campaign; (4) supporting up to nine health facilities to provide primary health care services for 1,860 children up to five years old; (5) providing support and equipment to health centres to provide vaccinations for up to 4,876 children; (6) treating up to 729 children suffering from severe and moderate acute malnutrition; (7) providing seeds and tools as well as training for up to 3,150 vulnerable households; and (8) providing cash transfers to up to 1,500 households. / Mars 2016 - Suite à un coup d'État en mars 2013, la situation humanitaire en République centrafricaine (RCA) s'est rapidement détériorée alors que la violence intercommunautaire a dégénéré et a causé des milliers de décès, un déplacement massif des populations et de graves violations des droits de la personne. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. This funding supports specific country emergency appeals for 18 countries. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting those who are vulnerable to abuse during hostilities by providing comprehensive hospital care and access to water and restoration of livelihoods; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise in areas such as promotion of international humanitarian law, restoring family links and health care provision in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. The World Food Programme (WFP)... is the United Nations' frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of GAC and other donors, the World Food Programme's Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l'organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies grâce à l'acheminement rapide de vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d'urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. The World Food Programme (WFP)... is the United Nations' frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of GAC and other donors, the World Food Programme's Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l'organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies grâce à l'acheminement rapide de vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d'urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, le Service aérien d'aide humanitaire du Programme alimentaire mondial assure le transport aérien sécuritaire, fiable, souple et efficient du personnel humanitaire dans de nombreux pays. March 2016 - Colombia continue...s to be plagued by a long-standing armed conflict. An estimated 6.5 million people are either displaced within the country or have sought refuge in Ecuador and Venezuela. Consequences of the conflict include forced displacement, limited mobility of people, goods and services, forced recruitment of children and young people by armed groups, as well as, sexual and gender-based violence. In 2015, 850,000 people were affected by mobility restrictions and constraints to access assistance and basic services. There are 5.8 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including access to safe water, adequate sanitation and hygiene systems, health care services in rural areas, protection, as well as timely food assistance and nutritional support. With GAC's support, Médecins du Monde is increasing access to basic health care, psychosocial support, safe drinking water and treatment against malnutrition for up to 8,000 crisis-affected people in six targeted municipalities in the department of Meta. Project activities include: (1) providing 33 mobile health clinics to offer primary healthcare services, including psychosocial support, in isolated communities; (2) provision of nutritional supplements to up to 2,000 children and 250 pregnant and lactating women; (3) providing up to 400 water filters and 300 nets to communities most affected by water-borne diseases; and (4) improving access to medical and legal services to up to 3,000 victims of sexual and gender-based violence. / Mars 2016 - La Colombie demeure tourmentée par un conflit armé de longue date. On estime que 6,5 millions de personnes ont été déplacées à l'intérieur du pays ou se sont réfugiées en Équateur et au Vénézuéla. Parmi les conséquences de ce conflit : déplacement forcé, mobilité réduite des personnes, biens et services limités, recrutement forcé des enfants et des jeunes par des groupes armés ainsi que violence sexuelle et sexiste. En 2015, 850 000 personnes se sont vu restreindre leur mobilité et l'accès à une aide et à des services de base. The International Committee of... the Red Cross' (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC provides assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. This funding supports specific country emergency appeals for 18 countries. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting those who are vulnerable to abuse during hostilities by providing comprehensive hospital care and access to water and restoration of livelihoods; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise in areas such as promotion of international humanitarian law, restoring family links and health care provision in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. Le CICR apporte un soutien aux personnes touchées et aide à prévenir d'autres souffrances au moyen de la promotion et du renforcement du droit international humanitaire et des principes humanitaires universels. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, les opérations d'urgence du CICR visent à offrir une fournir une protection, de l'assistance alimentaire, des services de santé, un soutien aux moyens de subsistance et d'autres services essentiels aux populations touchées par des conflits armés et d'autres situations de violence, de même qu'à promouvoir le respect pour le droit international humanitaire. March 2016 - This project incr...eases the International Committee of the Red Cross's (ICRC) capacity to prevent and reduce sexual violence in armed conflicts, particularly for women and girls who face increased vulnerability in situations of conflict and displacement. Rape and other forms of sexual violence may be used systematically as an act of reprisal and to create fear. The consequences are far reaching, affecting victims not only physically but psychologically and socially. For this reason, ICRC has launched a special initiative (2013-2016) to strengthen its response to sexual violence, with the intention of improving delivery of services, prevention of sexual violence, and improving the capacity of its staff to respond. GAC and other donors also provided support to this initiative in 2014 and 2015. The ICRC also works with States, weapon bearers, and religious and traditional leaders to promote awareness. In this regard, the ICRC has a unique role working in conflict zones, with access to areas inaccessible by many other organizations and with greater credibility in advocating for the protection of civilians, including vulnerable women and girls. / Mars 2016 - Le présent projet permet de renforcer la capacité du Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) à prévenir et à réduire la violence sexuelle dans les conflits armés, notamment pour les femmes et les jeunes filles qui sont beaucoup plus vulnérables dans les situations de conflit et de déplacement. Le viol et les autres formes de violence sexuelle peuvent être utilisés systématiquement comme une forme de représailles et pour créer un sentiment de peur. Les conséquences sont d'une portée considérable, touchant les victimes non seulement physiquement, mais aussi psychologiquement et socialement. Pour cette raison, le CICR a lancé une initiative spéciale (2013-2016) pour renforcer ses mesures d'intervention face à la violence sexuelle, avec l'intention d'améliorer la prestation des services, la prévention de la violence sexuelle et le renforcement de la capacité à intervenir de son personnel. AMC et d'autres donateurs ont également apporté leur soutien à cette initiative en 2014 et 2015. Le CICR travaille également de concert avec les États, les porteurs d'armes et les chefs religieux et traditionnels pour promouvoir la sensibilisation. À cet égard, le CICR a un rôle unique à jouer dans les zones de conflit, ayant accès à des zones inaccessibles par de nombreuses autres organisations, et possède une plus grande crédibilité en plaidant pour la protection des civils, y compris les femmes et les jeunes filles vulnérables.

March 2016 - The Democratic Re...public of Congo (DRC) continues to experience one of the most complex and protracted humanitarian crises in the world, with numerous, large-scale displacement and returnee movements, extremely low level basic services leading to large-scale cholera and measles epidemics, increasing refugee populations, and over 50 different armed groups that continue to terrorize communities, particularly in Orientale, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Katanga provinces. At least 1.6 million people in the DRC are internally displaced and a further 500,000 Congolese are living as refugees in neighbouring countries. Approximately 5 million people are food insecure, and acute malnutrition is estimated at 8 per cent. Protection concerns remain very high, with sexual violence and other abuses related to the violence plaguing vast numbers of civilians. Humanitarian needs could further increase if insecurity grows in relation to the deepening political crisis over elections planned for late this year. Overall, an estimated 7.5 million people in the DRC (roughly 9% of the total population) are expected to require humanitarian assistance in 2016 (an increase of 500,000 over this time last year). With the support of GAC and other donors, Doctors Without Borders is helping to meet the basic health needs of up to 350,000 conflict-affected people in Manono territory, Tanganyika province. Through its support to local hospitals and health centres in this area, Doctors Without Borders is supporting conflict-affected communities to access quality life-saving healthcare. Project activities include: (1) providing primary healthcare, including reproductive health, immunizations, ambulatory therapeutic feeding, and health promotion activities to up to 77,000 people; (2) providing secondary health care, including emergency surgery and pediatric inpatient care, to up to 1,800 people; and (3) providing training and support to staff at seven health centres and one hospital to recognize and respond to disease outbreaks and other health-related emergencies. / Mars 2016 - La République démocratique du Congo (RDC) continue de lutter contre l'une des crises humanitaires les plus complexes et prolongées dans le monde et elle est aux prises avec de nombreux déplacements à large échelle et mouvements de rapatriés, avec des services de base de très faible niveau, ce qui se traduit par des épidémies répandues de choléra et de rougeole, une hausse du nombre de réfugiés et la présence de plus de 50 différents groupes armés qui ne cessent de terroriser les collectivités, en particulier dans les provinces Orientale, du Nord-Kivu, du Sud-Kivu et de Katanga. The International Committee of... the Red Cross' (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC provides assistance and prevents further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC's emergency operations aim to provide protection, food assistance, health services, livelihood support and other essential services to populations affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. This funding supports specific country emergency appeals for 18 countries. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting those who are vulnerable to abuse during hostilities by providing comprehensive hospital care and access to water and restoration of livelihoods; (2) providing Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise in areas such as promotion of international humanitarian law, restoring family links and health care provision in situations of armed conflict and violence; and (3) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees. / Le Comité international de la Croix-Rouge (CICR) a pour mission première de contribuer à protéger la vie et la dignité des personnes touchées par les conflits et autres situations de violence. January 2016 - The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. With GAC's support and that of other donors, this project provides assistance and protection to people of concern in 20 countries. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation, and health services; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) protection, including sexual and gender-based violence, child protection, and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. / Janvier 2016 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) dirige et coordonne l'action internationale pour protéger les réfugiés et régler les problèmes des réfugiés dans le monde entier, protéger les personnes déplacées dans leur propre pays et les apatrides et chercher des solutions durables à leur situation dramatique. Grâce au soutien du MAECD et d'autres donateurs, ce projet apporte assistance et protection aux personnes prises en charge dans 20 pays. The World Food Programme (WFP)... is the United Nations' frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by getting food to the hungry quickly, and works to help prevent hunger in the future. As the global cluster lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP also plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. With the support of GAC and other donors, the World Food Programme's Humanitarian Air Service (WFP-UNHAS) is providing safe, reliable, responsive and efficient air service for humanitarian agencies in numerous countries. It transports passengers undertaking humanitarian work, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies, and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. / Le Programme alimentaire mondial (PAM) est l'organisme de première ligne des Nations Unies dans la lutte contre la faim. Il répond aux urgences, sauve des vies grâce à l'acheminement rapide de vivres aux personnes affamées et contribue à prévenir la faim. En tant que responsable sectoriel mondial en matière de logistique et de télécommunications d'urgence, le PAM joue également un rôle de premier plan dans la prestation de services communs à la communauté humanitaire. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs, le Service aérien d'aide humanitaire du Programme alimentaire mondial assure le transport aérien sécuritaire, fiable, souple et efficient du personnel humanitaire dans de nombreux pays. April 2016 - On April 16, a 7....8 magnitude earthquake struck the coast of Ecuador at 6:58 p.m. local time. Hundreds have been killed, thousands injured and over 700,000 people are affected. Over 1,500 buildings have either been damaged or destroyed by the earthquake. Most urgent needs are ensuring access to clean drinking water, sanitation services, temporary shelter, food and emergency medical assistance for those affected. With GAC's support, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is providing assistance to earthquake-affected people in Ecuador, in particular those residing in the six most-affected provinces where a state of emergency has been declared and humanitarian needs are greatest. Project activities include: (1) supporting the rapid recovery of health services and infrastructures impacted by the earthquake with structural and functional assessments, minor repairs and rehabilitation, and the procurement, temporary storage and distribution of essential medical and health supplies; (2) supporting the provision of basic services such as water, sanitation and waste disposal in the most affected areas through water quality monitoring and water storage solutions (notably water tanks and water treatment supplies); (3) restoring proper sanitation and hygiene conditions for population in shelters and affected communities with the installation of mobile sanitary units and the distribution of hygiene kits and other essential items for personal hygiene; and (4) promoting good hygiene practices and other disease prevention measures.

Over 1,500 buildings have either been damaged or destroyed by the earthquake. Most urgent needs are ensuring access to clean drinking water, sanitation services, temporary shelter, food and emergency medical assistance for those affected. With GAC's funding, this project will support the Ecuador Red Cross in their response, including search and rescue operations, to the earthquake. Project activities include: (1) providing trauma care, first aid and psychosocial support; (2) providing clean drinking water, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter; (3) providing life-saving information to target communities to help them withstand future shocks; and (4) restoring family links for the affected population.

July 2016 - July 2016 - The Un...ited Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. Widespread violence and criminal activities are forcing an increasing number of people, including women, girls and unaccompanied and separated children, to flee the Northern Triangle of Central America, thus leading to a dramatic increase in asylum applications from these countries in recent years. In 2015, an estimated 230,000 people were apprehended by authorities and returned to their countries of origin. With GAC's support, UNHCR responds to the needs of refugees and asylum-seekers from the NCTA. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the reception conditions, registration and access to legal assistance for vulnerable asylum-seekers and refugees; (2) improving access to essential services and respond to basic needs of the most vulnerable, including women, children and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; (3) improving self-reliance and livelihoods; and (4) promoting the protection of at-risk girls and boys from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation. / Juillet 2016 - Le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) dirige et coordonne l'action internationale pour protéger les réfugiés et résoudre les problèmes des réfugiés dans le monde entier, ainsi que pour protéger les personnes déplacées dans leur pays et les apatrides et chercher des solutions durables à leur situation déplorable. La violence généralisée et les activités criminelles contraignent de plus en plus de personnes, y compris des femmes, des filles et des enfants non accompagnés et séparés de leurs parents, à fuir le triangle du Nord de l'Amérique centrale, situation qui a récemment provoqué une augmentation marquée des demandes d'asile de résidents de cette région. On estime qu'en 2015, quelque 230 000 personnes ont été appréhendées par les autorités et renvoyées dans leur pays d'origine. January 2016 - The United Nati...ons High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. With GAC's support and that of other donors, this project provides assistance and protection to people of concern in 20 countries. Project activities include: (1) providing shelter, clothing and other essential non-food items; (2) providing adequate water, sanitation, and health services; (3) providing opportunities for education and livelihoods support; (4) protection, including sexual and gender-based violence, child protection, and working with governments to register asylum seekers and refugees and help issue identity documents; (5) working with governments to support refugee self-reliance and forge peaceful relations between refugees and local citizens; and (6) expanding opportunities for durable solutions for people of concern. / Janvier 2016 - Le Haut-Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) dirige et coordonne l'action internationale pour protéger les réfugiés et régler les problèmes des réfugiés dans le monde entier, protéger les personnes déplacées dans leur propre pays et les apatrides et chercher des solutions durables à leur situation dramatique. Grâce au soutien du MAECD et d'autres donateurs, ce projet apporte assistance et protection aux personnes prises en charge dans 20 pays. Les activités du projet comprennent : 1) la fourniture d'abris, de vêtements et d'autres articles non alimentaires essentiels; 2) la prestation de services adéquats d'approvisionnement en eau, d'assainissement et de soins de santé; 3) la prestation de possibilités de suivre un enseignement ou d'avoir des moyens de subsistance; 4) la prestation d'une protection, entre autres contre la violence sexuelle et sexiste, la protection des enfants et la collaboration avec les gouvernements aux fins d'inscription des demandeurs d'asile et des réfugiés et de la délivrance de pièces d'identité; 5) la collaboration avec les gouvernements afin de favoriser l'autonomie des réfugiés et nouer des relations pacifiques entre les réfugiés et les citoyens locaux; 6) l'élargissement des possibilités de solutions durables pour les personnes prises en charge.

March 2016 - On February 20 an...d 21, Tropical Cyclone Winston cut a path of destruction across Fiji. It is considered one of the strongest cyclones ever to hit the South Pacific. The country has suffered extensive infrastructural damage and according to the United Nations, 350,000 people have been affected by the cyclone, equivalent to 40% of Fiji's population. With GAC's support and that of other humanitarian donors, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is helping to meet the emergency water, sanitation, hygiene, health, nutrition, education, and protection needs of up to 350,000 people, including 120,000 children. Project activities include: (1) providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene services to up to 50,000 people; (2) providing maternal and child health and nutrition services to up to 36,300 pregnant and breastfeeding women and their children; (3) providing access to education facilities and formal and non-formal education to up to 30,500 boys and girls; and (4) providing protection services, including psychosocial support to up to 61,200 children. / Mars 2016 - Les 20 et 21 février, le cyclone tropical Winston a semé la destruction aux iles Fidji. Ce cyclone est considéré comme le plus fort à avoir frappé le Pacifique Sud. Le pays a subi de graves dommages à ses infrastructures et, selon les Nations Unies, 350 000 personnes ont été touchées par le cyclone, soit l'équivalent de 40 % de la population des Fidji. Avec le soutien d'AMC et d'autres donateurs humanitaires, le Fonds des Nations Unies pour l'enfance (UNICEF) aide à répondre aux besoins d'urgence en matière d'eau, d'assainissement, d'hygiène, de santé, de nutrition, d'éducation et de protection de jusqu'à 350 000 personnes, dont 120 000 enfants. July 2016 - July 2016 - The Un...ited Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) leads and coordinates international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide, protect internally displaced persons and those who are stateless, and search for lasting solutions to their plight. Widespread violence and criminal activities are forcing an increasing number of people, including women, girls and unaccompanied and separated children, to flee the Northern Triangle of Central America, thus leading to a dramatic increase in asylum applications from these countries in recent years. In 2015, an estimated 230,000 people were apprehended by authorities and returned to their countries of origin. With GAC's support, UNHCR responds to the needs of refugees and asylum-seekers from the NCTA. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the reception conditions, registration and access to legal assistance for vulnerable asylum-seekers and refugees; (2) improving access to essential services and respond to basic needs of the most vulnerable, including women, children and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; (3) improving self-reliance and livelihoods; and (4) promoting the protection of at-risk girls and boys from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation. / Juillet 2016 - Le Haut Commissariat des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés (HCR) dirige et coordonne l'action internationale pour protéger les réfugiés et résoudre les problèmes des réfugiés dans le monde entier, ainsi que pour protéger les personnes déplacées dans leur pays et les apatrides et chercher des solutions durables à leur situation déplorable. La violence généralisée et les activités criminelles contraignent de plus en plus de personnes, y compris des femmes, des filles et des enfants non accompagnés et séparés de leurs parents, à fuir le triangle du Nord de l'Amérique centrale, situation qui a récemment provoqué une augmentation marquée des demandes d'asile de résidents de cette région. On estime qu'en 2015, quelque 230 000 personnes ont été appréhendées par les autorités et renvoyées dans leur pays d'origine. Avec l'appui d'Affaires mondiales Canada, le HCR répond aux besoins des réfugiés et des demandeurs d'asile venant du triangle du Nord de l'Amérique centrale. Le projet comporte les activités suivantes : 1) améliorer les conditions d'accueil, l'enregistrement et l'accès à l'aide juridique pour les demandeurs d'asile et les réfugiés vulnérables; 2) faciliter l'accès aux services essentiels et répondre aux besoins de base des populations les plus vulnérables, dont les femmes, les enfants et les survivants de violence sexuelle et sexiste; 3) relever l'autonomie et les moyens de subsistance; et 4) promouvoir la protection des filles et des garçons à risque contre toutes les formes de violence, de mauvais traitements, de négligence et d'exploitation.
