more
Building on decades of USAIDs ...work procuring health commodities and strengthening supply chains, the Global Health Supply Chain-Procurement and Supply Management project is working to transform global and national supply chains for health commodities. The project integrates two former USAID programs into one efficient supply chain that serves many of the worlds most vulnerable and difficult-to-reach communities. The project is designed to meet todays critical global health challenges eliminating HIV and AIDS, providing universal malaria coverage, and helping women meet their family planning and reproductive health needs. By bringing together advanced technical solutions, a team of highly qualified experts, and proven commercial processes and principles, USAID Global Health Supply Chain works to reduce costs and increase efficiencies in global and national supply chains. In addition to optimizing supply chains, the project is strengthening national supply chain systems and fostering collaboration among supply chain stakeholders worldwide.

BREAKTHROUGH-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION will use s...tate-of-the-art, evidence-based tools to encourage people in developing countries to adopt healthy behaviors, from using modern contraceptive methods to sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV. Much of the work will harness the power of communication from mass media campaigns to TV and radio dramas to simple posters in a health clinic to inspire long-lasting change. The project will also take advantage of other behavioral science approaches such as behavioral economics and human-centered design to improve programs. The program which builds on a prior five-year, 31-country project called the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) is expected to be double the size. It will be led by CCP who will partner with Save the Children, ideas42, ThinkPlace Kenya and Camber Collective. Breakthrough-ACTION will also be supported in the field by ActionSprout, the International Center for Research on Women and Human Network International. CCP is based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Tuberculosis Control Assistanc...e Program (TB CAP)
more
TB CAP is a Coalition of partn...ers with KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation as the prime and six other organizations as subs including American Thoracic Society (ATS), Family Health International (FHI), the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), Japanese Anti-Tuberculosis Association (JATA), Management Sciences for Health (MSH), World Health Organization (WHO). The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is a member of the Coalition for coordinating purposes but funds can not flow through this mechanism. The focus of TB CAP is to decrease TB morbidity and mortality in USAID priority TB countries through improving case detection and treatment success. There are five key technical areas including: 1) Increased political commitment for DOTS implementation using evidence-based approaches; 2) Strengthened and expanded DOTS programs, especially to the underserved population; 3) Increased public and private sector participation in DOTS implementation; 4) Increased and strengthened TB and HIV/AIDS coordinated and collaborative activities; 5) Improved TB human and institutional capacity for sustainable TB programs. In addition, TB CAP will assist countries to scale-up country programs to provide national DOTS coverage, apply lessons learned and state-of-the-art approaches, leverage resources to increase impact through collaboration and coordination, integrate TB programs into health systems, and improve the gender, equity and equality of program activities.

BREAKTHROUGH - RESEARCH
BREAKTHROUGH - Research
Breakthrough-RESEARCH will con...vene and engage a broad range of health and development stakeholders, supporting them in developing, promoting, and operationalizing visionary, consensus-driven agendas for Social and Behavior Change (SBC) research that contribute to measurable global health impact by providing the evidence needed to increase the practice of priority health behaviors and enable social norms for improved health and development outcomes. This may include, for example, synthesizing evidence and building consensus around SBC research agendas, designing and implementing high-priority SBC studies, and developing research utilization strategies and products tailored to end-users. Breakthrough-RESEARCH may also conduct performance and impact evaluations of SBC activities implemented through Mission bilateral or other central projects.

Medicines, Technologies, and P...harmaceutical Services (MTaPS)
more
The goal of Medicines, Technol...ogies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS), a new activity, is to strengthen low- and middle-income country health systems to ensure sustainable access to, and appropriate use of, safe, effective, quality-assured, affordable essential medicines and medicines-related services. This will be accomplished by using a systems strengthening approach to technical assistance, customized based on country context, Mission objectives, and technical feasibility. In furtherance of this purpose, specific objectives that MTaPS will work to accomplish through technical assistance include: 1) Strengthening pharmaceutical sector governance; 2) Increasing institutional and human resource capacity for pharmaceutical management and services, including regulation of medical products; 3) Advancing the availability and use of pharmaceutical information for decision-making; 4) Optimized pharmaceutical sector financing, including resource allocation and use; and 5) Improved pharmaceutical services including product availability and patient-centered care to achieve desired health outcomes.

The Knowledge for Health (K4He...alth) Project is the flagship health knowledge management project of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The current iteration of the Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project is the latest in a lineage of reproductive health knowledge-sharing projects which began over 40 years ago. K4Health's focus is on social knowledge management for family planning and reproductive health. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health's Center for Communication Programs (JHUCCP) manages the project in partnership with the Global Health Bureau at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). IntraHealth International joins longtime collaborators FHI 360 and Management Sciences for Health as partners with JHUCCP.
