The purpose of this five-year ...program is to implement the Congressionally-mandated Child Blindness directive which will expand the availability, accessibility, and quality of eye care services to vulnerable children with limited access to sight-saving services. This purpose will contribute to the overall goal of improving the health and wellbeing of children, especially those in vulnerable populations, increasing economic productivity, and advancing development. Specific goals are: 1) to increase the number of children provided with quality eye care services; and 2) to increase global knowledge of pediatric eye care through innovation and the implementation of best practices. The program will start in late FY18. Project inputs include sub-awards to U.S.-based and non-U.S. based eye care organizations to implement field activities and research; technical assistance to eye care organizations and to other USAID and U.S. Government programs; capacity building and training for small eye care organizations; and technical leadership in the field of global pediatric ophthalmology through research and knowledge sharing efforts. Project outputs include timely issuance of the maximum amount of funds to grants for field activities; strengthened capacity of grantees to meet USAID requirements and performance targets; cross-sectoral linkages and collaborations between USAID and U.S. Government programs where appropriate; expanded innovation in child eye care programming approaches; and integration of evidence-based approaches into large-scale programming and host-country health systems. The Child Blindness Program will promote integration of interventions into existing local health systems and other sector plans and programs (e.g., education) in order to increase long-term sustainability of results and ownership by governments and local actors, and help countries progress on their journey to self-reliance.

Background: Le 1er agrément ...ONG le 17 octobre 1981, renouvelé le 18 décembre 1991et le 28 novembre 1997. Agrément programme le 14 avril 2007. L ARCB -CD est une émation des 3 districts belgo -luxembourgeoise du Rotary International qui regroupent 255 clubs totalisant près de 10.500 membres. Depuis 1981 l ONG a connu une évolution certaine et d ONG généraliste elle s est progressivement transformée en une ONG plus spécialisée à l expertise reconnue dans le domaine de la santé -vaccination (notamment par la campagne d éradication de la polyo lancée en 1985). Les activités se sont multipliées par des actions d appui à la protection maternelle et infantile par la vaccination contre la rougeole et l administration de la vitamine A,la surveillance épidémiologique, la création de chaînes de froid et du programme élargi de vaccination. A partir de 2008 une nouvelle activité a été mise en oeuvre : la réabilitation d un hôpital de référence. - General objective: Objectif global du programme 2014 -2016 de ARCB -CD Rotary : La santé des populations des ZS de Maluku I, Maluku II, et N Sele, est améliorée dans le contexte de lutte contre la pauvreté. - Specific objective: Assurer à la population de la zone de sante de N Sele une couverture améliorée des services et des soins de santé de qualité - Results: L objectif spécifique [OS1] se décline dans les résultats attendus suivants : - [R1] La qualité des prestations est améliorée. - [R2] La gestion des ressources financières et des MEG est améliorée à l'HGR et dans les 15 CS titulaires. - [R3] Le leadership et la gouvernance dans la ZS N'sele sont renforcés. - [R4] Le processus de suivi et de cogestion est participatif, approprié et efficace. -

This program aims to ensure mo...re Afghan children are protected from polio by increasing national polio vaccination coverage. Afghanistan is one of three countries where polio remains endemic and experts believe that Afghanistan is at a critical point in its efforts to eradicate polio. This program supports Afghanistan's Polio Eradication Initiative, which provides polio vaccinations to more than eight million children across the country. Vaccination campaigns occur regularly at national and sub-national levels, with a focus on areas with higher rates of incidence of polio. This program contributes to strengthening immunization services and monitoring the status of polio in Afghanistan. In conjunction with the polio vaccinations, the program also delivers maternal, newborn and child health interventions, including micronutrient supplementation such as vitamin A to prevent blindness and death and zinc for diarrhea, de-worming to improve nutrition and prevent illness in children and activities to promote good health and hygiene. / Programme d'appui à l'Initiative pour l'éradication de la poliomyélite en Afghanistan (2014-2016) Ce programme vise à élargir la couverture vaccinale en Afghanistan afin que plus d'enfants afghans soient protégés contre la poliomyélite. L'Afghanistan est l'un des trois pays où cette maladie reste endémique. Or, d'après les spécialistes, les efforts en vue d'éradiquer la poliomyélite ont atteint un stade névralgique en Afghanistan. Ce programme appuie l'Initiative pour l'éradication de la poliomyélite en Afghanistan, qui assure l'administration d'un vaccin antipoliomyélite à plus de huit millions d'enfants dans l'ensemble du pays. Des campagnes de vaccination sont organisées régulièrement à l'échelon national et infranational ainsi que dans le cadre de visites porte-à-porte, surtout dans les régions où l'incidence de la poliomyélite est plus élevée. Ce programme contribue au renforcement des services d'immunisation par l'organisation de campagnes et le suivi de l'état de la poliomyélite en Afghanistan. Parallèlement aux activités de vaccination, il appuie également la réalisation d'interventions pour la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants, y compris la supplémentation en micronutriments comme la vitamine A (pour prévenir la cécité et la mort), la vermifugation (pour améliorer la nutrition des enfants et prévenir la maladie chez ceux-ci), des campagnes de sensibilisation du public et d'autres activités pour promouvoir une bonne santé et une bonne hygiène.

This project aims to reduce th...e mortality and morbidity rate among children under five by improving access to vaccines in Francophone countries of the Central and West Africa region, where immunization coverage is disproportionate to the affected population. Pneumonia and diarrhea are the main causes of morbidity and mortality among children under five. The project seeks to expedite the introduction of immunization against these diseases in the 17 Central and West African countries that are members of La Francophonie, and to improve the decision-making process of local governments regarding vaccine planning and procurement in these countries. Project activities include: (1) effectively supplying vaccines to the targeted countries; (2) providing targeted technical assistance to governments and the local population to strengthen their commitment to improve national decision mechanisms, to consolidate underlying health systems, and to ensure the success of systematic immunization; (3) to maintain and improve the quality of immunization data, to determine coverage rates and to work with countries to establish bases for estimates, and to propose support appropriate to the situations of the various countries. It is estimated that this project will help prevent nearly 23,000 premature deaths from rotavirus and 163,000 premature deaths from pneumonia due to the introduction of these vaccines in the countries targeted in 2014. The project significantly complements efforts by Canada and the GAVI Alliance via the Advance Market Commitment for pneumococcal vaccine to fight pneumonia in children under five. / Ce projet vise à réduire le taux de mortalité et la maladie chez les enfants de moins de cinq ans en améliorant l accès à des vaccins dans les pays francophones de la région de l Afrique centrale et de l Ouest, où la couverture vaccinale est disproportionnelle à la population affectée. La pneumonie et la diarrhée sont les principales causes de maladie et de mortalité chez les enfants de moins de cinq ans. Le projet cherche à accélérer l introduction des vaccins contre ces maladies dans les 17 pays membres de la francophonie de l Afrique centrale et de l Ouest, ainsi qu à améliorer le processus décisionnel des gouvernements locaux relatif à la planification et l approvisionnement en vaccins dans ces pays. Parmi les activités du projet : 1) approvisionner efficacement les pays visés en vaccins; 2) fournir une assistance technique ciblée aux gouvernements et à la population locale pour renforcer leur engagement dans l amélioration des mécanismes de décision nationaux, solidifier les systèmes de santé sous-jacents et faire de l immunisation systématique un succès; 3) maintenir et améliorer la qualité des données sur la vaccination pour déterminer les taux de couverture et travailler avec les pays sur l établissement de bases d estimations et proposer un soutien adapté à la situation des pays. This project aims to ensure th...at more children have access to life-saving vaccines by strengthening the effectiveness of immunization supply chains. The immunization supply chain aims to ensure effective vaccine storage, handling, and stock management; ensure rigorous temperature control so that vaccines remain effective until they reach the children who need them; and maintain adequate logistics management information systems. The project supports the development and implementation of the GAVI Immunization Supply Chain Strategy. A key project activity is to design or redesign immunization supply chain strategies in individual countries. The goal is to look at innovative approaches and technologies to improve the management of immunization supply chains, to increase the availability and use of data, and to improve product choice, and procurement and management of cold chain equipment. The project also seeks to encourage greater country ownership of immunization supply chain systems. These activities are additional to activities included in country proposals approved through GAVI s normal application, review and approvals processes. / Ce projet a pour but d augmenter le nombre d enfants qui ont accès à des vaccins essentiels, en renforçant l efficacité des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. La chaîne d approvisionnement vise à garantir l efficacité de l entreposage des vaccins, de leur manutention et de la gestion des stocks, à assurer un contrôle rigoureux de leur température afin qu ils demeurent efficaces jusqu à ce que les enfants les reçoivent et à assurer le bon fonctionnement des systèmes d information relative à la gestion de la logistique. Le projet soutient l élaboration et la mise en oeuvre de la stratégie de la GAVI relative à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination. L une des activités principales du projet consiste à élaborer ou à remanier des stratégies relatives à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination dans des pays pris individuellement. Le but est d examiner des technologies et des méthodes novatrices pour améliorer la gestion des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination, d accroître la disponibilité et l utilisation des données, de diversifier l offre de produits et d améliorer l approvisionnement et la gestion du matériel lié à la chaîne du froid. Le projet vise en outre à favoriser une plus grande prise en charge locale des systèmes liés aux chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. Ces activités s ajoutent à celles qui figurent dans les propositions nationales approuvées dans le cadre des processus courants (demande, examen et approbation) de la GAVI.

This project contributes to er...adicating polio throughout the world. It supports the Global Polio Eradication Initiative s Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan for 2014. This plan provides a roadmap to complete the eradication of polio disease within a five-year timeline. It outlines a clear approach for stopping the transmission of the polio virus, eradicating the polio virus in the remaining three polio-endemic countries (countries where the wild polio virus is present; Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan), and managing polio virus risks in the future. The plan also outlines an approach to ensure that the knowledge, capacities, and processes developed for polio immunization are used to address other public health challenges as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative comes to an end. DFATD s funding, together with funding from other donors, contributes to the following activities: strengthening surveillance to detect movement of the virus; strengthening routine immunization; training front-line staff; improving the capacity to detect and interrupt the transmission of the polio virus in polio-endemic countries and high-risk regions; and supporting the transfer of polio immunization assets and infrastructure to other global health initiatives. / Ce projet appuie des activités d éradication de la poliomyélite à travers le monde et appuie l Initiative mondiale pour l éradication de la poliomyélite et le Plan d éradication stratégique pour 2014. Ce plan sert de carte routière pour compléter l éradication de la poliomyélite en cinq ans et offre une approche réaliste pour interrompre la transmission du virus, pour éradiquer le virus dans les trois pays endémiques (les pays où le virus est présent, soit le Nigéria, l Afghanistan et le Pakistan) et pour gérer les risques persistants. Ce plan définit aussi une approche pour assurer que les connaissances, les capacités et les processus développés pour éradiquer la poliomyélite sont utilisés pour relever d autres défis de santé publique lorsque l Initiative viendra à sa fin. La contribution du MAECD s ajoute à celle d autres donateurs pour appuyer les activités suivantes : renforcer les systèmes de surveillance pour dépister le mouvement du virus; renforcer l immunisation de routine; former le personnel de première-ligne; améliorer la capacité pour distinguer et interrompre la transmission du virus dans les pays endémiques et dans les régions de haut-risque; appuyer le transfert des infrastructures employées pour éradiquer la poliomyélite à d autres initiatives de santé mondiale.

A key project activity is to design or redesign immunization supply chain strategies in individual countries. The goal is to look at innovative approaches and technologies to improve the management of immunization supply chains, to increase the availability and use of data, and to improve product choice, and procurement and management of cold chain equipment. The project also seeks to encourage greater country ownership of immunization supply chain systems. These activities are additional to activities included in country proposals approved through GAVI s normal application, review and approvals processes. / Ce projet a pour but d augmenter le nombre d enfants qui ont accès à des vaccins essentiels, en renforçant l efficacité des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. La chaîne d approvisionnement vise à garantir l efficacité de l entreposage des vaccins, de leur manutention et de la gestion des stocks, à assurer un contrôle rigoureux de leur température afin qu ils demeurent efficaces jusqu à ce que les enfants les reçoivent et à assurer le bon fonctionnement des systèmes d information relative à la gestion de la logistique. Le projet soutient l élaboration et la mise en oeuvre de la stratégie de la GAVI relative à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination. L une des activités principales du projet consiste à élaborer ou à remanier des stratégies relatives à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination dans des pays pris individuellement. Le but est d examiner des technologies et des méthodes novatrices pour améliorer la gestion des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination, d accroître la disponibilité et l utilisation des données, de diversifier l offre de produits et d améliorer l approvisionnement et la gestion du matériel lié à la chaîne du froid. Le projet vise en outre à favoriser une plus grande prise en charge locale des systèmes liés aux chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. Ces activités s ajoutent à celles qui figurent dans les propositions nationales approuvées dans le cadre des processus courants (demande, examen et approbation) de la GAVI.

This project aims to improve t...he health of mothers, newborns and children under five in order to improve children's growth and reduce death in 14 poor districts in Bangladesh. The corrective actions for each district address shortages and bottlenecks in the public health care system, respond to communication issues, train health service providers and expand cold storage to accommodate the introduction of new vaccines. The project activities are integrated in the Operational Plans of the Health Population and Nutrition Sector Development Program of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The project empowers families and women with knowledge about available services and the standard of service they should expect. Over 1.5 million women and 5.8 million young children in Bangladesh are expected to benefit from this project. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la santé des mères, des nouveau-nés et des enfants de moins de cinq ans afin d'améliorer la croissance des enfants et de réduire le taux de mortalité dans 14 districts pauvres au Bangladesh. Les mesures correctives prises dans chaque district visent à remédier aux manques et aux engorgements dans le système de soins de santé public, à régler les problèmes de communications, à former des fournisseurs de services de santé et à prévoir plus d'espace pour la réfrigération des nouveaux vaccins. Les activités du projet sont intégrées aux plans opérationnels du Programme de développement des secteurs de la santé, de la population et de la nutrition du Ministère de la Santé et de la Protection de la famille. Le projet permet aux familles et aux femmes de connaitre les services disponibles et les normes de services auxquelles elles devraient s'attendre. Il est attendu que ce projet profite à plus de 1,5 million de femmes et à 5,8 millions de jeunes enfants au Bangladesh.

The project works in seven out of the DRC eleven provinces, where the surveillance capacity is the weakest in relation to the number of existing cases. A better performing surveillance system strengthens the collection and management of polio data, and supports immunization activities. Surveillance also covers other vaccine-preventable diseases such as measles, yellow fever and neonatal tetanus, which will contribute to a reduction in mortality and morbidity linked with these diseases. By reducing the mortality rate associated with these diseases, the project contributes to the achievement of Millennium Development Goal 4 related to the reduction in child mortality. / Ce projet vise à contribuer à éradiquer la polio en République démocratique du Congo en renforçant le système de surveillance épidémiologique pour mieux détecter les cas de polio et y réagir de manière précoce. Le projet travaille dans sept des onze provinces du pays où la capacité de surveillance est particulièrement faible par rapport au nombre de cas présents. Un système de surveillance plus performant renforce la collecte et la gestion d'information sur la polio et soutient les activités de vaccination. March 2014 - Varying levels of... political and inter-communal violence across eastern Africa continue to cause significant displacement, both within the affected countries and across national borders, facilitating the unchecked spread of communicable diseases. In 2013, Somalia experienced its first polio outbreak since 2007, with cases spreading into both Kenya and Ethiopia. With support from DFATD and other donors, the World Health Organization (WHO) is helping to contain the polio epidemic in eastern Africa and prevent future outbreaks through an immunization campaign and by building the response capacity of local authorities. / Mars 2014 - La violence politique et intercommunale à des niveaux divers en Afrique de l Est continue de provoquer d importants déplacements de population, à la fois à l intérieur et à l extérieur des frontières nationales des pays touchés, ce qui facilite la propagation des maladies transmissibles. En 2013, la Somalie a connu sa première flambée de poliomyélite depuis 2007, qui s est répandue au Kenya et en Éthiopie où des cas ont été constatés. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, l Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) s emploie à endiguer l épidémie de poliomyélite en Afrique de l Est et à prévenir de futures flambées au moyen d une campagne de vaccination et du renforcement des capacités d intervention des autorités locales.

According to the report, Child Alert : Haiti (UNICEF 2006), low immunization coverage is a major factor in infant mortality in that country. For example, only 50% of children under one year of age are vaccinated against measles, compared to over 90% in Latin America and 66% in sub-Saharan Africa. The Canadian International Immunization Initiative for Haiti (CIII2) aims to expand and intensify immunization worldwide and includes a research component added in 2003 (see project 102172). This grant will support a competitive process to identify and fund the most relevant and scientifically sound operational research projects in the field of immunization in Haiti. Grants will be awarded preferably to teams of collaborating Haitian and Canadian researchers.

This project aims to reduce in...fant mortality by reinforcing the Ministère de la santé publique et de la population (MSPP) s Expanded Immunization Program (EIP) which expands routine immunization across all departments of the country. The project has three components: a trilateral vaccination initiative in collaboration with the Brazilian government (completed); institutional strengthening of the MSPP by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO); and research-based advice and support from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). Through this project, IDRC manages scholarship-based research projects in which Canadian and Haitian researchers collaborate on strategies that help the MSPP to overcome key obstacles in the implementation of immunization programs. These main obstacles are the lack of immunization access, the integration of immunization within basic health service delivery, the incentives and support for health-care professionals, and the participation of the health care beneficiaries. / Ce projet a pour objectif de réduire le taux de mortalité infantile en renforçant le Programme élargi de vaccination (PEV) du ministère de la Santé et de la Population (MSPP). Ce programme vise l extension de la vaccination de routine à l ensemble des départements du pays. Le projet se subdivise en trois volets : une initiative trilatérale de vaccination, en collaborant avec le gouvernement brésilien (terminée); le renforcement institutionnel du MSPP par l Organisation panaméricaine de la santé (OPS) et un appui-conseil fondé sur la recherche par le Centre de recherches pour le développement international (CRDI). Dans le cadre de ce projet, le CRDI administre des bourses et des projets de recherche avec lesquelles les chercheurs canadiens et haïtiens collaborent pour arriver à des stratégies permettant au MSPP de surmonter les principaux obstacles de la mise en oeuvre des programmes de vaccination. Parmi les principaux obstacles se trouvent : le manque d accès à la vaccination, l intégration de la vaccination à l offre de base des services essentiels, l utilisation d incitatifs et d appui aux professionnels de la santé et la participation de la population bénéficiaire des services de santé.

The goal of this project is to... help strengthen the detection, treatment, and prevention of acute malnutrition and to help combat some of the major causes of child mortality, through immunization and improved care at the community level. The project aims to support the provision of basic health services, contribute to the response to the nutrition crisis in Mali, and ensure that the Malian population has access to vaccines and essential drugs. The project involves establishing a mechanism for active detection and treatment of severely malnourished children at the community level; promoting adequate nutrition for infants and young children; as well as ensuring the timely supply of vaccines included in the national immunization program. Additionally, the project includes providing refrigerators to community health centers for vaccine storage, ensuring timely supply of medicines for essential care at the community level, and distributing light medical equipment to community health centres. This project is part of Canada s maternal, newborn, and child health commitment. / Ce projet a pour but de renforcer la détection, le traitement et la prévention de la malnutrition aigüe et d aider dans la lutte contre certaines des principales causes de mortalité infantile, grâce à l immunisation et l amélioration des soins dans les collectivités. Ce projet vise à soutenir la prestation de services de santé de base, à venir en aide aux victimes de la crise alimentaire au Mali et à veiller à ce que la population du Mali ait accès à des vaccins et à des médicaments vitaux. Le projet consiste à établir un mécanisme pour la détection active et le traitement des enfants atteints de malnutrition sévère dans les collectivités; à faire la promotion d une nutrition adéquate pour les nourrissons et les jeunes enfants; et à veiller à la prestation, en temps opportun, des vaccins compris dans le programme de vaccination national. The goal of this project is to... establish a more effective system for providing vaccinations in Nigeria and to increase the number of children under five who receive the polio vaccine. Nigeria is one of three countries in the world where children can still contract polio. Children under the age of five are the most at risk for polio infections and the risk is highest in northern Nigeria. It is estimated that 600,000 Nigerian children under five have never received a single dose of the polio vaccine. This project contributes to increasing the percentage of children under five who receive a full complement of vaccinations, including the polio vaccine, from 23% to 85% by 2015. This project supports the polio immunization activities of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in Nigeria. Polio vaccination campaigns occur regularly throughout Nigeria both at the national level and at the state level, in areas where there is a higher rate of polio infections. The polio vaccination campaigns are also used as a platform for delivering other essential health services, such as routine vaccinations against common preventable diseases and health education. In addition, the project works with political, traditional, and religious leaders in Nigeria to build momentum toward greater community acceptance of polio immunization. The WHO is responsible for technical assistance, training, post-immunization campaign assessment surveys, data analysis, and report writing. The WHO also coordinates research, provides technical and operational support to the Federal and State Ministries of Health, and coordinates the training and deployment of human resources. / Ce projet a pour but d établir un système de vaccination plus efficace au Nigéria et d augmenter le nombre d enfants de moins de cinq ans qui reçoivent le vaccin contre la poliomyélite. Le Nigéria est l un des trois pays au monde où les enfants peuvent encore contracter la poliomyélite. Les enfants de moins de cinq ans sont les plus à risque d être infectés par la maladie et le risque est plus élevé dans le nord du Nigéria. On estime que 600,000 enfants de moins de cinq ans n ont jamais reçu une dose du vaccin contre la poliomyélite. Ce projet contribue à augmenter de 23 % à 85 % d ici 2015 le pourcentage des enfants de moins de cinq ans recevant un complément de vaccins, notamment celui contre la poliomyélite. March 2014 - Varying levels of... political and inter-communal violence across eastern Africa continue to cause significant displacement, both within the affected countries and across national borders, facilitating the unchecked spread of communicable diseases. In 2013, Somalia experienced its first polio outbreak since 2007, with cases spreading into both Kenya and Ethiopia. With support from DFATD and other donors, the World Health Organization (WHO) is helping to contain the polio epidemic in eastern Africa and prevent future outbreaks through an immunization campaign and by building the response capacity of local authorities. / Mars 2014 - La violence politique et intercommunale à des niveaux divers en Afrique de l Est continue de provoquer d importants déplacements de population, à la fois à l intérieur et à l extérieur des frontières nationales des pays touchés, ce qui facilite la propagation des maladies transmissibles. En 2013, la Somalie a connu sa première flambée de poliomyélite depuis 2007, qui s est répandue au Kenya et en Éthiopie où des cas ont été constatés. Avec le soutien du MAECD et d autres donateurs, l Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) s emploie à endiguer l épidémie de poliomyélite en Afrique de l Est et à prévenir de futures flambées au moyen d une campagne de vaccination et du renforcement des capacités d intervention des autorités locales.

This project contributes to er...adicating polio throughout the world. It supports the Global Polio Eradication Initiative s Polio Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan for 2014. This plan provides a roadmap to complete the eradication of polio disease within a five-year timeline. It outlines a clear approach for stopping the transmission of the polio virus, eradicating the polio virus in the remaining three polio-endemic countries (countries where the wild polio virus is present; Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan), and managing polio virus risks in the future. The plan also outlines an approach to ensure that the knowledge, capacities, and processes developed for polio immunization are used to address other public health challenges as the Global Polio Eradication Initiative comes to an end. DFATD s funding, together with funding from other donors, contributes to the following activities: strengthening surveillance to detect movement of the virus; strengthening routine immunization; training front-line staff; improving the capacity to detect and interrupt the transmission of the polio virus in polio-endemic countries and high-risk regions; and supporting the transfer of polio immunization assets and infrastructure to other global health initiatives. / Ce projet appuie des activités d éradication de la poliomyélite à travers le monde et appuie l Initiative mondiale pour l éradication de la poliomyélite et le Plan d éradication stratégique pour 2014. Ce plan sert de carte routière pour compléter l éradication de la poliomyélite en cinq ans et offre une approche réaliste pour interrompre la transmission du virus, pour éradiquer le virus dans les trois pays endémiques (les pays où le virus est présent, soit le Nigéria, l Afghanistan et le Pakistan) et pour gérer les risques persistants. Ce plan définit aussi une approche pour assurer que les connaissances, les capacités et les processus développés pour éradiquer la poliomyélite sont utilisés pour relever d autres défis de santé publique lorsque l Initiative viendra à sa fin. La contribution du MAECD s ajoute à celle d autres donateurs pour appuyer les activités suivantes : renforcer les systèmes de surveillance pour dépister le mouvement du virus; renforcer l immunisation de routine; former le personnel de première-ligne; améliorer la capacité pour distinguer et interrompre la transmission du virus dans les pays endémiques et dans les régions de haut-risque; appuyer le transfert des infrastructures employées pour éradiquer la poliomyélite à d autres initiatives de santé mondiale.

This project aims to ensure th...at more children have access to life-saving vaccines by strengthening the effectiveness of immunization supply chains. The immunization supply chain aims to ensure effective vaccine storage, handling, and stock management; ensure rigorous temperature control so that vaccines remain effective until they reach the children who need them; and maintain adequate logistics management information systems. The project supports the development and implementation of the GAVI Immunization Supply Chain Strategy. A key project activity is to design or redesign immunization supply chain strategies in individual countries. The goal is to look at innovative approaches and technologies to improve the management of immunization supply chains, to increase the availability and use of data, and to improve product choice, and procurement and management of cold chain equipment. The project also seeks to encourage greater country ownership of immunization supply chain systems. These activities are additional to activities included in country proposals approved through GAVI s normal application, review and approvals processes. / Ce projet a pour but d augmenter le nombre d enfants qui ont accès à des vaccins essentiels, en renforçant l efficacité des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. La chaîne d approvisionnement vise à garantir l efficacité de l entreposage des vaccins, de leur manutention et de la gestion des stocks, à assurer un contrôle rigoureux de leur température afin qu ils demeurent efficaces jusqu à ce que les enfants les reçoivent et à assurer le bon fonctionnement des systèmes d information relative à la gestion de la logistique. Le projet soutient l élaboration et la mise en oeuvre de la stratégie de la GAVI relative à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination. L une des activités principales du projet consiste à élaborer ou à remanier des stratégies relatives à la chaîne d approvisionnement en vaccination dans des pays pris individuellement. Le but est d examiner des technologies et des méthodes novatrices pour améliorer la gestion des chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination, d accroître la disponibilité et l utilisation des données, de diversifier l offre de produits et d améliorer l approvisionnement et la gestion du matériel lié à la chaîne du froid. Le projet vise en outre à favoriser une plus grande prise en charge locale des systèmes liés aux chaînes d approvisionnement en vaccination. Ces activités s ajoutent à celles qui figurent dans les propositions nationales approuvées dans le cadre des processus courants (demande, examen et approbation) de la GAVI.

This project aims to improve p...olio immunization coverage, particularly among children and vulnerable populations who are at high-risk of contracting the disease, to mitigate the risk and potential impact of a polio outbreak. Ukraine is at high risk for a polio outbreak because current rates of vaccination are low (less than 50% of children are fully immunized against polio) and the likelihood of exposure to sources of wild or vaccine-derived polio viruses is high. The project seeks to immunize the most vulnerable populations, including approximately 1.5 million children, with a focus on infants who have never been vaccinated, or who are living in conflict-affected areas or communities of internally displaced people. Project activities include: (1) providing 1.8 million doses of Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) and associated immunization supplies, as well as 3.1 million doses of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV); (2) vaccinating an estimated 450,000 infants under the age of one year with two doses of IPV - to the extent possible, followed in the next year with up to two more booster doses of OPV; and (3) vaccinating an older group of children who are only partially immunized against polio with additional doses of OPV. / Ce projet vise à améliorer la couverture du vaccin contre la poliomyélite, particulièrement chez les enfants et les populations vulnérables qui courent un risque élevé de contracter la maladie, afin d atténuer le risque et les répercussions potentielles d une éclosion de poliomyélite. L Ukraine court un grand risque d être le théâtre d une éclosion de la maladie, puisque le taux actuel de vaccination est faible (moins de 50 % des enfants ont reçu tous leurs vaccins contre la poliomyélite) et la probabilité d exposition aux sources des poliovirus sauvages ou aux poliovirus dérivés de vaccins est élevée. Ce projet vise à vacciner les populations les plus vulnérables, y compris quelque 1,5 million d enfants, en ciblant particulièrement les bébés qui n ont jamais été vaccinés et les enfants qui vivent dans une zone touchée par un conflit ou une collectivité de personnes déplacées dans leur pays. Through this project, GAC will... support the implementation of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI)'s Endgame Strategic Plan for 2013-2019, which provides a global roadmap to eradicate polio by 2019. Specifically, the project will contribute to achieving: 1) increased capacity of targeted national governments to detect and interrupt poliovirus transmission and more rapidly respond to new outbreaks; 2) strengthened national immunization systems and withdrawal of oral polio vaccines, particularly, particularly in endemic countries; 3) certification and containment of polio viruses by 2019; and 4) strengthened national health systems through mainstreaming polio assets and infrastructure into broader health programs. Activities will include working with targeted governments to strengthen oral polio vaccine and inactivated polio vaccine campaign safety and quality, preparing country offices for improved outbreak responses, providing technical assistance to front-line workers, engaging communities with a new communication strategy to identify and reach missed children, and work with governments to transition polio assets and infrastructure to broader health goals. Annual amounts fundraised by the Rotary Foundation of Canada will be matched by DFATD on a 2:1 ratio, up to a maximum of $12 million. The Rotary Foundation of Canada is a chapter of Rotary International, one of the GPEI's core partners. The GPEI is a partnership between UNICEF, the World Health Organization, the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Rotary International and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This project contributes to Canada's $250 million commitment to polio eradication made at the 2013 Abu Dhabi Global Vaccine Summit. / Ce projet appuiera la mise en oeuvre du Plan stratégique 2013-2019 de l'Initiative mondiale pour l'éradication de la poliomyélite (IMEP), qui fournit une feuille de route mondiale pour éradiquer la polio d'ici 2019.
