Strengthening Egypts Family Pl...anning Program (SEFPP)
more
Strengthening Egypts Family Pl...anning Program (SEFPP), a five-year, USAID-funded activity, works with the GOE to strengthen its family planning system and integrate family planning into the GOEs maternal health and other health programs. SEFPP builds upon the significant achievements the GOE, donors, and the private sector have had in the family planning sector, in addition to JSIs previous successful work in Egypt. The project aims to create sustainable solutions that will help address Egypts growing population by increasing the use of family planning methods and promoting healthy timing and spacing of pregnancies. Project implementation is focused on the nine governorates of Upper Egypt and the slums of Cairo and Alexandria.

EVIDENCE PROJECT
EVIDENCE Project
The Evidence Project uses impl...ementation science - the strategic generation, translation, and use of evidence - to improve family planning policies, programs, and practices. The project is led by the Population Council. Over the course of the project (2013-2020), the Evidence Project was implemented in partnership with INDEPTH Network, International Planned Parenthood Federation, PATH, Population Reference Bureau, Meridian Group International, Management Sciences for Health, and the projects University Resource Network. The Evidence Project is investigating which strategies work best in improving, expanding, and sustaining family planning services. It is also evaluating how to implement and scale up those strategies. Critical to the Evidence Project is translating this knowledge and working with stakeholders to apply the evidence and to build capacity in using implementation science to improve policies, programs, and practices.

The Pastoral Areas Resilience ...Activity consists of core activities and crisis modifier activities. The core activities will target 250,000 households (approximately 1.5 million people) in 30 or more selected districts (Woredas) of Oromia, Somali, Afar and potentially South Omo by tackling the root causes of vulnerability for lowlands households to improve their capacity to withstand and recover from climate and conflict related shocks and stresses. These include weak disaster risk management capacity at different levels, limited livelihood diversification options, poor livestock and crop productivity and market linkages and low levels of nutrition. Implementation will focus on systems change, with a strong learning component to ensure interventions are adapted per the latest analysis and research. The Pastoral Areas Resilience Activity will be one piece to the larger puzzle of building the resilience of Ethiopias pastoral populations, and partnerships with other implementers, donors, the GoE and the private sector will be essential to reach the scale needed for real systems change.

FFP is funding a USAID Impleme...nting Partner to reach 221,893 people in Amhara region with a comprehensive social and behavior change communications strategy. This strategy aims to facilitate changes at the household, community, and local government levels, as well as to support community asset creation to improve household resilience and reduce risks of food insecurity. The Implementing Partner is focusing on improving food security by addressing nutrition-sensitive factors, climate change and climate variability, government and community capacity deficits, and inequitable gender norms. To do so, the Implementing Partner is promoting the adoption of appropriate health, nutrition, and water, sanitation, and hygiene practices using care groups that promote positive gender and health norms, and the Implementing Partner is increasing incomes by diversifying livelihoods, particularly targeting women and youth, and increasing high value crop production by supplying high quality seeds and by providing livestock feed to female-headed households and other vulnerable groups.

GIZ-share GER biosafety/biosec...urity programme
more
Strengthening biosafety and bi...osecurity capacity of relevant security, health and scientific institutions in all partner countries. In addition to the fundamental goal of contributing to raising awareness and minimizing risks from highly pathogenic pathogens, this program is geared towards sustainable effects. A desired confidence-building side effect of this security policy measure is also to support the target countries in public health care. In addition, the German Biosafety Program enables a favorable entry into a broader disarmament dialogue, especially with difficult partners. Last but not least, our measures aim to enter into a constructive dialogue with the program countries about the BWC. Against this background, it is indispensable to design the program in the longer term and therefore to provide a multi-year project term in the phase 2020 to 2022.

BREAKTHROUGH-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION
Breakthrough-ACTION will use s...tate-of-the-art, evidence-based tools to encourage people in developing countries to adopt healthy behaviors, from using modern contraceptive methods to sleeping under bed nets to being tested for HIV. Much of the work will harness the power of communication - from mass media campaigns to TV and radio dramas to simple posters in a health clinic - to inspire long-lasting change. The project will also take advantage of other behavioral science approaches such as behavioral economics and human-centered design to improve programs. The program - which builds on a prior five-year, 31-country project called the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) - is expected to be double the size. It will be led by CCP who will partner with Save the Children, ideas42, ThinkPlace Kenya and Camber Collective. Breakthrough-ACTION will also be supported in the field by ActionSprout, the International Center for Research on Women and Human Network International. CCP is based at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

LOCAL GOVERNANCE PROJECT
Local Governance Project
In the 1990s, the National Gov...ernment of Guatemala passed reforms to devolve significant responsibility and authority to municipalities and spur broad-based economic growth in light of inadequate centralized systems and a rising demand for public services. After more than 10 years, the decentralization process is still a work in progress. The local governments ability to mobilize citizen participation and support local development has been constrained by a variety of factors including: poor representation of women and indigenous leaders in municipal government and in local development councils, lack of skills and experience in conducting public communication, and lack of effective accounting systems to build public trust. In response, the Guatemala Local Governance Project, supported under a task order from the USAID SUM II IQC and with funds from Feed the Future (FtF), is working in the East of Guatemala (Corredor Seco Region) and the Western Highlands of Guatemala to assist 25 rural municipalities to increase its capacity of municipal governments to respond to the needs and demands of their constituents, institutionalize participatory processes and transparency through the promotion of informed citizen participation (particularly of women, the indigenous, and other traditionally under-represented groups) and promote local economic development.

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH)
more
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions, the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

Health Policy Plus (HP+) proje...ct
more
The purpose of the Health Poli...cy Plus (HP+) project is to improve the enabling environment for equitable and sustainable health services, supplies and delivery systems through policy development and implementation, with an emphasis on family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), maternal and child health (MCH), and HIV and AIDS. It is expected that work across health policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, in a highly coordinated and collaborative approach and with attention to gender equality and equity issues, will be required to achieve the project purpose. This project will leverage previous USG investments in the areas of policy, advocacy, financing, and governance, preserve the progress made to date, and ensure progression toward stated objectives.
