ECHO/-SF/EDF/2015/01001 - Comm...unity based Management Malnutrition for the most vulnerable children Under 5 and mothers in provices affected by severe drought in the Republic of Angola
more
|
World Vision (WV) has been pio...neering Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) programs in Southern Angola in close cooperation with the National Department of Nutrition of the Ministry of Health (MoH) since 2012. Since Jan 2016, WV is implementing in Huila and Cunene ECHO-funded CMAM activities expected to end in January 2017, which coincides with the hunger period. As the EC has made available additional funding for the emergency response, WV is proposing to extent these activities, until June 2017, at the time of the season harvest. WV will implement the nutrition component in Cunene together with CUAMM focusing on support to in- and outpatient nutrition centers. On-going nutrition activities will be extended and complemented by the timely distribution of seed packs of improved, short cycle varieties of drought resistant crops to households with malnourished children. Seeds of high nutritional value, vegetables and orange flesh sweet potato together with nutritional education will make a further contribution to the nutrition of malnourished children and their mothers. The intervention will also increase the resilience of rural populations by increasing their knowledge of best practices and capacity to prevent, detect and treat child malnutrition in the future. In line with WFP's mandate, ex...perience and comparative advantage, the action seeks to improve the nutrition security of the targeted population in 3 sub-districts/upazilas of Cox's Bazar, supporting close to 28,490 beneficiaries for 1 year. The curative aspect will focus on acutely undernourished children under five & pregnant & lactating women (PLW). Community level systematic screening at the community clinic will identify acutely undernourished PLW & children, who will be referred for treatment based on national standards. Routine nutrition status monitoring and food distribution will be undertaken fortnightly through the community based supplementary feeding programme, operated through community clinics and other community identified delivery structures to ensure adequate reach of services. Supplementary food provided will ensure recovery from acute undernutrition while for PLW it will also increase the chance of giving birth to a child with an adequate birth weight. In addition, an improved behavioural change communication (BCC) package will be delivered at the community level for preventative and promotional behaviors targeting PLW, adolescent girls, other household members and key community gate keepers. The preventive aspect of the project will focus on BSFP for children under five and PLW in Leda makeshift. The registered beneficiaries will be monitored and receive fortified blended food on monthly basis. On evidence creation, WFP will conduct a Food Security Assessment in Leda makeshift and a Household Economy Analysis in Cox's Bazar district and Chittagong Hill Tracts to be used to advocate for increased assistance to the vulnerable populations of these areas.

With EU funds, UNICEF worked i...n six Sahel countries (Burkina Faso, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger) to provide:
life‑saving treatment of malnutrition
an adequate supply of essential medicines
It also worked to prevent malnutrition and integrate nutrition in related national policy areas.
Every year in the Sahel, around 577 000 children die of malnutrition. In 2015, around 5 million children under five were suffering from acute malnutrition in the Sahel. 1.4 million of those needed treatment for severe acute malnutrition.nd

more
|
|

no information found on projec...t -> WFP's activities in CHad in general -> Out of 4 main components 1 includes child nutrition along with cash transfers -> Food assistance
WFP is supporting 1.4 million vulnerable people affected by chronic food insecurity and climate-related disasters in Chad. In the Lake Chad Basin we provide cash-based transfers to enable vulnerable people to buy food from local markets, boosting the economy. We also provide nutrition support to babies aged six months to two years, helping to prevent malnutrition.
Support for refugees
WFP provides life-saving food and nutritional assistance to 370,000 refugees from Sudan and the Central African Republic (CAR) hosted in 19 camps and some villages spread from the North-East to the South of Chad. In January 2018, 20,000 people crossed the border from CAR to Chad - the largest movement of refugees from that country, exceeding the total number for 2017 (2,000). 8,500 refugees from Nigeria are also assisted in the Lake Chad region. 102,000 Chadians, who fled violence in CAR in 2013, still live in transit sites and host villages in the South of Chad.
School meals
WFP provides nutritious school meals to 120,000 children in food insecure areas of the Sahel, where food production is poor even in relatively good years. School meals encourage school enrolment, which is low in these regions. We also provide an emergency school meal programme in the Lake Chad region, feeding 15,000 children.
UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS)
WFP manages the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) on behalf of the humanitarian community in Chad, with 19 destinations throughout the country served by four aircraft carrying personnel and light cargo. Over 120 humanitarian organizations rely on UNHAS to carry out their vital work in Chad.

(TCD SI2.732612 Humanitarian aid and food assistance p.3)

This action provides response ...elements to all four expected crises in the 2016 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP), namely Food Security and Malnutrition, Population Movements, Natural Disasters (flooding) and Epidemics.
For Malnutrition, with the aim of providing integrated curative and preventive approach for sustainable management of acute malnutrition and childhood illnesses in Chad, UNICEF proposes to strengthen the supply management system in partnership with ECHO.
In addition, the Action will enable the prepositioning of NFIs and emergency shelter kits for 33,000 new displacements from conflict or natural disasters. UNICEF will also preposition measles vaccines for 60,000 children aged 6 months to 14 years for a timely response to measles outbreaks thus contributing to reducing mortality;
2,500 cases of cholera will be treatead in a timely manner in districts with high risk of cholera with 5 cholera kits which can treat 500 people each (of which 100 severe cases and 400 moderate); and 25 districts with high risk of cholera and flooding will have prepositioned WASH kits for cleaning and disinfection.
Through the Action, a National Contingency Plan for Chad will be developed in support to operationalizing the national capacity development plan for DRR developed with CADRI.

Accelerating the uptake of new... operational tools and solutions to scale up acute malnutrition treatment and nutrition sensitive programming
more
|
The action will address issues... relating to access and use of malnutrition services by testing new delivery models for the treatment of severe acute malnutrition. Activities include raising awareness of acute malnutrition through family MUAC and oedema trainings, adapting SAM treatments to make them more cost-effective, and producing a simplified mechanism to treat both MAM and SAM cases. It will also address the challenges of multi-sector analysis, programming and prevention through the development of digital learning tools. It's expected that the project will provide a more sustainable and scalable response to acute malnutrition and enhance the capacity of humanitarian actors worldwide. ECHO/-HF/EDF/-2015/01020 - Em...ergency Nutrition, Wash, Food Security to Crisis Affected Populations in Tigray Camp: SNNP region of Ethiopia
more
|
In Tigray, supplementary and t...herapeutic nutritional needs of SAM and MAM children under 5 and PLW will be met through delivery of OTP, inpatient therapeutic services/stabilization centres (SC) and TSFP. This will be supported by establishing effective community mobilization for case detection, referral, follow up, promotion of health seeking behaviour and strengthening of Woreda Health Office (WoHo) capacity to manage CMAM in the target woredas in Tigray. The OTP, SC and community mobilization components are expected to be delivered by the WMoH (Woreda Ministry of Health). CWE will provide technical support and conduct joint monitoring and supervision. TSFP will be directly implemented by CWE in Endemehoni and Emba Alaje woredas where WFP is not undertaking pilot activities.
Given the critical WASH needs greatly contributing to the spread of scabies in Tigray, the project will provide hygiene promotion messaging at community level and provide target HHs with soap (laundry/body), jerry cans and aquatabs to support treatment of water for home consumption. This will include scabies prevention and management training for HEWs and HW. The project will rehabilitate or construct rain water harvesting systems and pipelines at health facilities. It will also rehabilitate community water schemes to reduce severe water shortages and large scale water trucking. In Humbo woreda, Wolayita, CWE proposes to increase access to safe water by rehabilitating water structures and supporting water treatment activities. It also will respond to the immediate needs generated by the floods and landslides in Kindo Diday and Kindo Koyesha woredas, Wolayita. (ETH AID.CTR.374784 01020)

|
The project targets lactating ...women with children under 2 years, giving monthly cash transfer of GMB600 (approx. €13) per mother-child pair. The cash is to build resilience by making additional money available for the household to diversify their food consumption, improve feeding patterns, thereby making more nutrients available in their meals. Mothers also benefit from education support from health service providers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices during child welfare clinic days. Also, mothers whose children were malnourished at the point of inclusion into the project are visited by social workers at home to provide IYCF support and counselling.

ECHO/-CR/EDF/2015/01006 - Cont...ribution to saving children's lives by preventing and treating severe acute malnutrition through sustainable and evidence-based intervention in areas most affected by drought in Haiti

Narrative:
The proposal aims... to reinforce ongoing efforts to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality related to severe acute malnutrition (SAM) among affected children under five in areas affected by the drought-induced crisis. 2015 was classified as the driest year in Haiti, resulting from the El Niño phenomenon that has caused an irregular rainy season and exacerbated the already dire conditions of the population in several parts of Haiti. The December 2015 assessment conducted by the national food security coordination (Coordination Nationale de la Securité Alimentaire or CNSA), Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) and WFP estimated the number of individuals suffering from chronic food insecurity and requiring urgent cross-sectoral interventions as a result of the drought at more than three million.
The vast majority of Haitians (or 59 percent) live below the poverty line, and their fragile livelihoods are often affected by various risks to which they are exposed. The situation is taking a significant toll on families whose livelihoods derive entirely from the agriculture sector, i.e. 60 percent of the population. In this context, the October 2015, Food Security assessment based on Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis found that about 70 percent of the population is chronically food insecure. In the Artibonite, Center, North, North-East, North-West and South-East departments, the percentage of the population affected by severe chronic food insecurity (Phase 4) exceeds 20 percent. The remaining four departments are classified as Phase 3 (moderate chronic food insecurity).
In this specific response with ECHO funding, UNICEF is collaborating with the Ministry of Health and three international organizations (ACF, IMC and AVSI) to support and coordinate a community-based approach in tackling SAM among children under five in nine of 38 most affected communes (IPC 3) in Haiti.

IMC will support the identific...ation and treatment of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with and without complications among children aged 0-59 months prevent malnutrition through improved access to quality nutrition services and prevent deterioration into SAM through capacity building and supportive supervision of MoH nutrition activities. IMC will use Plumpynut for the treatment of MAM cases. Thus the IMC Nutrition Program will provide the complete package of community-based management of malnutrition (CMAM).
