SCALING UP SURVIVE AND THRIVE ...ACTION INTERVENTIONS (SUSTAIN).

Scaling Up Survive and Thrive ...Action Interventions (SUSTAIN).
more
|
The first 1,000 days of life, ...before and after birth, is the period with the most profound consequences for short- and long-term health. This period carries the burden of an annual 300,000 maternal deaths, 2,6 million stillbirths, and 4 million infant deaths. Furthermore, long-term consequences for the surviving but affected newborns include impaired cognitive development and increased risk of future chronic diseases. The period from onset of pregnancy to two years of age thus provides a unique window of opportunity to establish a solid foundation for survival, health, growth, and cognitive development.Low-income countries that were successful in the past few decades to expand primary health services and reduce child mortality now face new challenges. To further increase the chances for children to survive and thrive there is a need for communities to engage in the health and welfare of the mother-and-child dyad and primary health services to respond to these needs with quality services. There is well-researched evidence that the use of facilitated participatory groups is an effective social innovation but no large scale-up of this promising innovation has so far taken place. The current application aims to support the establishment of the multi-disciplinary SUSTAIN network that aim to develop and test social innovations across diverse health system settings to improve the health and survival during the first 1,000 days of life.

The Inter-American Institute o...f Human Rights (IIDH) is an independent international academic institution, created in 1980 under an international agreement between the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the Republic of Costa Rica. Its mission is to promote and strengthen respect for human rights established in the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights and other treaties, and to contribute to consolidation of democracy in the region through education, investigation, training, technical assistance, mediation and communication. IIDH supports the Inter-American system of international human rights protection and executes local and regional projects for the dissemination of these rights among the principal non-governmental organizations and public institutions of the Americas, serving as a bridge between States and the civil society. In 2017, the Embassy of Sweden in Guatemala received from Sida a delegation of regional funds of the global strategy for special initiatives on human rights and democratisation to initiate cooperation in Honduras and El Salvador. Among the selected partners to carry out regional human rights work is IIDH, which enters into cooperation agreement with the Embassy of Sweden in Guatemala to promote among duty bearers and rights holders mechanisms and regional and universal standards of protection of environment, sexual and reproductive rights and related rights, which will improve access to information, to decision making and to justice of vulnerable groups affected by discrimination, exclusion and non-protection. Among the expected results are the following:- State institutions, private companies and civil society organizations facilitate and demand (respectively), access to justice in environmental and sexual and reproductive rights- civil society organizations have the necessary skills in organization, training, advocacy and defence to exercise their right to information, participation and justice in legal matter related to environment, and reproductive rights- defenders exercise their right to promote and protect human rights related to environment, territory, participation and sexual and reproductive rights- public officials are aware of and incorporate sexual and reproductive rights and women's access to justice into provision of public servicesThe intervention contributes to facing new challenges in human rights by promoting protection of environmental and sexual and reproductive rights, and their defence in Honduras and El Salvador.

Programme support amounting to... in total 100 MSEK will be provided to Global Fund for Women (GFW) for the period 2019-2022. The purpose of the intervention is to support GFW's work as described in their current Strategic Plan 2015-2020 and corresponding programmatic strategies. The Strategic Plan sets out the organization's ambition to achieve the following five goals by 2020:1) Accelerate fundraising to support increased grantmaking, advocacy, and resource mobilization for women's human rights: By 2020, reach 25 MUSD annual revenue and distribute a minimum of 15 MUSD in grants.2) Strengthen Movements to Advance Women's Human Rights, Deepen Movement-Building Expertise: Demonstrate clear impact on women's rights and movements via grant making, advocacy, and influencing strategies. 3) Extend Reach and Influence, reaching an aggregated audience of 2 million by 2020: Initiate and change critical conversations on women's rights and strengthen reputation and influence.4) Mobilize Resources through High-Impact Strategic Alliances, generating at least 110 MUSD in cash and/or in-kind resources.5) Embed Nimbleness, Innovation, and Collaboration through systems, culture, talent, activities, and values. The programmatic focus areas are freedom from violence, economic justice, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. On these themes they campaign and award grants to grass-roots women's groups. GFW also provide grants to groups using Media and Technology as well as Leadership Development as part of their work, and partner with global Women's Funds as key resource mobilizers.Sida's funding will increase GFW's ability to respond to the immediate needs of grassroots women's rights organizations that are facing increased hostility – including violence, erosion of funding, and roll backs to existing rights, and increase GFW's ability to foster and support the growth of feminist movements that will ensure long-term progress.GFW's total budget is 182 million SEK (FY2019), out of which 127 million SEK (70%) is provided by individuals, 25 million SEK by philanthropic donors and corporations and only 2 million SEK by bilateral/multilateral donors. At least half of GFW's annual budget and Sida's contribution will go directly to grants to women's rights organizations at grassroot level, almost exclusively in the Global South.

INTERNATIONAL CONFEDERATION OF... MIDWIVES (ICM) 2020- 2023

International Confederation of... Midwives (ICM) 2020- 2023
more
|
ICM has applied for core suppo...rt of SEK 32,000,000 for the implementation of its strategic plan for the years 2020 - 2023. ICM is a global civil society network that unites 143 national and regional midwifery associations. ICM's vision is for every childbearing woman to have access to midwifery care for herself and her newborn child. By strengthening the capacity of Midwives Associations and by promoting and advancing the midwifery profession globally, the intervention contributes to securing pregnancies and births for all, especially those in the least developed countries.ICM is currently implementing the strategic plan for 2017 - 2020. The organization is in the process to develop a new strategic plan for 2021 - 2023. ICM's programmatic work focuses on midwives, SRMNCAH and women's and girls' rights. Since the organization has, so far, only had project support, Sida's core support will provide ICM the opportunity to develop its organization and strengthen its own capacity, and to more effectively implement its strategy. ICM has previously, during the period 2011 - 2014, received project support from Sida. Sida funds will not be forwarded.

Femina Hip Ltd 2018 - 2020 - F...emina Hip Strategic Plan NS
more
|
Femina's Strategic Plan 2013 -... 2022 intends to strengthen citizens especially young people's opportunities to understand and influence public decisions that impact on their lives through the Citizen Engagement agenda. As a civil society, it has the proven capacity and experience in working and engaging with young people and strengthening their capacity to demand for accountability through its multimedia platform and communication expertise. Femina has strong knowledge and proven experience in SRHR and has been able to build synergies between SRHR and the Economic empowerment agenda. Femina's current TV programme on young people and their role in the agriculture sector shows clearly that young people have a key role to play in agricultural production.During this period, Sweden will have close dialogue with the organisation on issues related to programme implementation in the areas of Civic Engagement, Economic Empowerment and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights. These issues are in line with the Results Strategy for Sweden's International development cooperation in Tanzania 2013 - 2019 within the Results Areas 1.1: Developed markets in agricultural production with the ambition that more poor people primarily women find employment and increase their incomes, RA 2.1 Greater number of girls and boys who acquire basic knowledge and skills in schools, RA 2.2 Greater number of young people who complete vocational education and training, including the ambition that at least 10000 find employment, RA 2.3 Better opportunities for women and young people to start and run productive companies and RA 3.2 Strengthened capacity in civil society to demand accountability and increased knowledge of human rights.

Restless Development focuses o...n addressing the needs and aspirations of young people and creating an enabling environment for inclusive engagement and participation of young women and men in economic development and decision making processes. The organisation also works with partners to address gaps in youth rights, capacities and wellbeing. Its work focuses on three thematic goals – economic empowerment, voice, accountability and participation, and non-discrimination in SRHR. The organization creates and implements grassroots programs to deliver targeted results under each thematic goal to its target groups. In the next five years, Restless Development intends to reach at least 500,000 young people across 18 regions of Tanzania. It targets to serve 5,000 youth groups and networks engaged at the community and district level, 600 young volunteer leaders, and 1,200 alumni. This decision proposes the third phase of Swedish support to Restless Development Tanzania for the period of 2016–2021. The overall budget for the five year period is 15.8 million GBP (approximately 209 MSEK). The Embassy's appraisal is for proposed funding of 46.5 MSEK which is about 22.2% of the total budget. This decision covers three components of the contribution as outlined below - Component 1: 5117009701 Restless Development SP 2016-2021. Component's budget 45 000 000 SEK at 9 000 000 per year. - Component 2: 5117009702 End of Programme External Evaluation. Component's budget 1 000 000 SEK for 2021. - Component 3: 5117009703 Audits. Component's budget 500 000 for 2016.The new phase of support will enable the organization to (i) strengthen and scale-up its employability, livelihoods and enterprise programs through partnering with the private sector, and (ii) scale the girls' leadership and rights programmes, and participation and accountability work. Sida's support will be channeled through Restless Development Tanzania who is the agreement and implementing partner.
