Background: GondarCollege of ...Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) is one of the oldest medical colleges in the country and has remained as one of the pioneers in the country. It was started as a public health college 60 years ago more importantly for the purpose of controlling the repeated malaria outbreak in the region. It is found 750km from the capital Addis Ababa in the historical city of Gondar. Currently over 4,000 students are enrolled in different health fields, both in undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The College also owns a 400 -bed referral hospital. The hospitalserves as (1) training site for health professionals, (2) health care delivery facility for a large number of people in north -west Ethiopia, and (3) a clinical research facility for tropical and poverty related diseases. - General objective: To enhance the research capacity and evidence based medical practice in tropical and poverty related diseases in Ethiopia - Specific objective: To contribute to the establishment of a research and training center in CMHS (UoG) on tropical and poverty -related diseases - Results: 1. Capacity for collaborative clinical trials/researchfor tropical and poverty related diseases is extended(beyond Leishmania) in Gondar.(consolidate the research work in domain HIV/VL and invest in new research lines related to poverty related diseases, clinical/laboratory research tracks in other tropical disease domains developed by PhD grantees supported under this program) 2. Clinical and research laboratory capacity strengthening has taken place. (quality assured laboratory environment, set -up of a biobank, a needs/feasibility assessment ) 3. Evidence based medicine guidelines are in place and practiced in the fields of tropical medicine in UoG Hospital.(capacity building in clinical decision making, development of evidence based guidelines and monitor their implementation through audits – example antibiotic indications and use) 4. Senior staffs of UoG have reached a good level of competence in PhD mentorship and MSc thesis guidance in clinical, biomedical/laboratory and public health sciences.(development of mentorship capacity of senior staff and opportunities for PhD grantees will go 'hand in hand' by twoPhDgrantsprovided under this program and facilitated participation in PhD training programs of other African public health schools) -

Supply Chain Management System... (SCMS) - Task Order 3 - Family Planning and Reproductive Health
more
|
Supply Chain Management System... (SCMS) is a multi-billion dollar PEPFAR Program managed by USAID and implemented by Partnership for Supply Chain Management (PfSCM). The purpose of SCMS is to ensure the supply of quality essential medicines and other products to people impacted by HIV/AIDS, and to promote sustainable supply chains in partner countries, in collaboration with US agencies and other stakeholders. SCMS supports the rapid scale up of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment by providing an uninterrupted supply of key commodities. CMS is implemented by the Partnership for Supply Chain Management, a non-profit consortium of 13 organizations led by John Snow, Inc. Research & Training Institute (JSI) and Management Sciences forHealth (MSH).

Supporting International Famil...y Planning Organizations (SIFPO) - Family Planning and Reproductive Health
more
|
By strengthening organizationa...l capacity and sustainability of country-level programs, SIFPO contributes to reductions in fertility and maternal and child mortality. Through SIFPO, we work to significantly scale up delivery of high quality family planning products and services to address unmet need in a sustainable and targeted manner. By the end of 2015 we aim to achieve the following results:1) Strengthen organizational capacity to deliver quality family planning services to target groups. 2) Quantify and disseminate internal quality assurance standards and results. 3) Increase organizational sustainability of country-level programs, including South-to-South support and community-based family planning services. 4) Strengthen gender-sensitive and youth friendly family planning services at the global level.

The Health Policy Project (HPP...) works to strengthen developing country national and subnational policy, advocacy, governance, and finance for strategic, equitable, and sustainable health programming. HPP helps countries bring about real change in the health of people and communities. We work with in-country partners to sustain commitment to and ownership of policy responses that support improvements in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), HIV, and maternal health.
more
|
Globally, HPP contributes to i...mproved health outcomes through strengthening the efficiency, effectiveness, and equity of health systems in a multi-sectoral context. HPP focuses on the policy aspects of health and other social sectors, often in a multi-sectoral context. We also assist countries to improve health outcomes by addressing barriers due to gender inequalities, socioeconomic status, stigma and discrimination, operational issues, and other factors that prevent people from seeking the health and related social services they need. Throughout our work, we are committed to encouraging in-country capacity for policy, advocacy, governance, and finance. For additional information on HPP see www.healthpolicyproject.com. (https://jobpaw.com/public/detailsjob.php?idjob=5595)
In Haiti, HPP has been asked to implement the USAID-funded for the Aksyon Kolektif pou Sekirite kont Eksplwatasyon (AKSE) Program which supports a multi-sectoral approach to strengthen the Haitian environment for human rights in general and for vulnerable populations, in particular, children, women, and sexual minorities. AKSE was previously implemented by CARE International. HPP will build on the work of the previous project from March 2014 through at least September 2015, with potential for extension.

more
|
Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH) - Family Planning and Reproductive Health
more
|
MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. And we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

PRIVATE HEALTH SECTOR PROGRAM ...(PHSP) - FAMILY PLANNING AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
more
|
Private Health Sector Program ...(PHSP) - Family Planning and Reproductive Health
more
|
The goal of USAID/Ethiopias Pr...ivate Health Sector Program (PHSP) is to enable the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) to effectively partner with private health providers to deliver public health services, while improving the quality and affordability of these services for Ethiopians. Specifically, PHSP engagement with the private sector will realize improvements in service packages for HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis (TB), family planning (FP), and malaria. PHSP will also enhance government oversight, strengthen public-private referral mechanisms, develop interventions to increase financing for the private health sector, and improve client education. The program is designed to achieve the following results: (i) establishment of a supportive policy environment for the private health sector; (ii) enhancement of both geographic and financial access to packages of essential health services through the private sector; (iii) sustained improvements in the quality of these services; and (iv) increased demand for quality services by informed, proactive consumer populations.
