The Health Policy Project (HPP...) works to strengthen developing country national and subnational policy, advocacy, governance, and finance for strategic, equitable, and sustainable health programming. HPP helps countries bring about real change in the health of people and communities. We work with in-country partners to sustain commitment to and ownership of policy responses that support improvements in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH), HIV, and maternal health.

Globally, HPP contributes to i...mproved health outcomes through strengthening the efficiency, effectiveness, and equity of health systems in a multi-sectoral context. HPP focuses on the policy aspects of health and other social sectors, often in a multi-sectoral context. We also assist countries to improve health outcomes by addressing barriers due to gender inequalities, socioeconomic status, stigma and discrimination, operational issues, and other factors that prevent people from seeking the health and related social services they need. In Haiti, HPP has been asked to implement the USAID-funded for the Aksyon Kolektif pou Sekirite kont Eksplwatasyon (AKSE) Program which supports a multi-sectoral approach to strengthen the Haitian environment for human rights in general and for vulnerable populations, in particular, children, women, and sexual minorities. AKSE was previously implemented by CARE International. HPP will build on the work of the previous project from March 2014 through at least September 2015, with potential for extension.

CONCERT aims to reduce fertili...ty and population growth; lower the risk of HIV/AIDS; and reduce maternal and infant and under-five mortality rates. The project has broad national coverage through mass media, campaigns, and capacity building, as well as intensive implementation through projects local partners. During the life of the project, CONCERT will: 1) Work to improve coordination and planning by developing a platform for health messaging and integrated communication strategies. 2) Develop a multi-media campaign using a centrepiece radio programme and family health booklet. 3) Develop a community mobilization toolkit. 4) Support capacity development of the HEU and explore the creation of an S/BCC knowledge management system. 5) Develop and document best practices, introducing new approaches to S/BCC and conduct operations research.

The Strengthening Health Outco...mes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project is USAIDs flagship initiative in private sector health. It works to involve nongovernmental organizations and for-profit entities in addressing the many health needs of people in developing countries. SHOPS focuses on increasing availability, improving quality, and expanding coverage of essential health products and services in family planning and reproductive health, maternal and child health, HIV and AIDS, and other health areas through the private sector. MCSP is reducing maternal and ...newborn mortality and morbidity in Burma by strengthening the midwifery profession. In collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other partners, we promote best practices in maternal and newborn health care, and provide capacity building support to the Myanmar Nurses Midwives Association. We focus on evidence-based, high-quality interventions to reduce the leading drivers of maternal mortality in the country: postpartum hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, and sepsis. MCSP also addresses the major causes of newborn death through improved neonatal resuscitation, prevention and management of pre-term birth, care for preterm/low birth weight newborns, and identification and management of newborn infections. And we work with the MOH to provide national technical assistance for malaria in pregnancy and integrated community case management.

The technical assistance (TA) ...loan is proposed to enhance the efficiency of bank's financial intermediation by improving the accuracy and transparency of the bank's financial disclosure. To achieve this objective, the TA loan will finance the 1999 external audits of selected commercial banks in accordance with international accounting standards (IAS). The results of this audit will be used for determining NBKR's and the Government's policies relating to the recapitalization of the banks. The TA loan will cover those commercial banks in the Kyrgyz Republic which (i) already meet NBKR's prudential regulations; (ii) are either already servicing or are expected to service credit lines of multilateral and bilateral donors; and (iii) are expected to be recapitalized by international financial institutions.

Also included are activities that integrate FP and related RH care, including integrated FP/MCH services, especially provision of post-partum family planning, FP information within the ANC setting, and post-abortion care; FP, as appropriate, in the context of HIV/AIDS/STI prevention, treatment, care and support; fistula prevention and repair; prevention and mitigation of gender-based violence in the context of FP/RH programs; and programs that encourage abandonment of female genital cutting and other harmful traditional practices that are associated with negative RH outcomes.

The Clinical and Community HIV.../AIDS Services Strengthening (CHASS) project is designed to improve the quality, coverage and effectiveness of high-impact, evidence-based HIV/AIDS interventions in four provinces in Mozambique: Manica, Niassa, Sofala and Tete. The project, which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), works to ensure that the right HIV/AIDS interventions are implemented at the right time and in the right places, to contribute to the goal of controlling the country’s HIV epidemic.
CHASS will pursue these objectives across all four provinces:
Increase coverage of antiretroviral treatment (ART) to 90 percent
Increase retention of patients on ART to 80 percent at 12 months and 70 percent at 36 months
Increase the average CD4 count at initiation of ART from 350 to 500 cells per cubic millimeter
Complete tuberculosis treatment for 90 percent of patients with HIV who are diagnosed with tuberculosis
Operationalize viral load testing
In partnership with local organizations, district health teams, provincial health teams and the Ministry of Health, CHASS combines innovation, technical capacity strengthening of health facilities and community-based organizations, direct support for quality and integrated HIV/AIDS service delivery, and health systems strengthening at provincial and district levels. In line with USAID Forward principles, CHASS places more emphasis on technical assistance to the host government and local organizations to enhance local ownership of the national response. Additionally, the project supports the expansion of HIV prevention and treatment services in high-prevalence areas and among high-risk population groups. This approach aims to close existing coverage gaps and increase access by saturating services in districts and communities where HIV prevalence and unmet need are high.
FHI 360 is the prime partner of the initiative, which includes partnerships with Howard University, departments and agencies within the Mozambique Ministry of Health, and several regional and national nongovernmental organizations.

Family Planning and Reproducti...ve Health - Establish and/or strengthen host country institutions management information systems (MIS) and their development and use of tools and models to collect, analyze and disseminate a variety of information related to the program element. These may include, but are not limited to MIS for government ministries or other host country institutions, needs assessments, baseline studies, censuses and surveys, targeted evaluations, special studies, routine surveillance, data quality assessments, and operational research. This sub-element may also include developing and disseminating best practices and lessons learned and testing demonstration and/or pilot models. Related training, supplies, equipment, and non-USG personnel are included.
