Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

Sant ( Health in Haitian Krey...ol) has the overall goal of assisting, strengthening and expanding essential health services, ultimately serving up to 4.2 million Haitian people. The project will expand and support the work of more than 160 hospitals and clinics nationally to provide quality care. As part of a patient-centered approach, Sant will provide integrated maternal and child care to Haitian families, with a particular focus on immunization, reproductive health, nutrition services and HIV prevention, care and treatment. Working in partnership with the Haitian Government, USAID, non-government organizations and faith-based organizations, the Package of Essential Services national strategy will be realized.

This project strengthens the h...uman resources (HR) needed to implement quality health programs, in both the public and private, particularly the not-for-profit private, sectors. It addresses both the number of healthcare workers needed and the quality and performance of those workers. The definition of healthcare worker is expanded to include HR managers, laboratory staff, pharmacists, social workers, information systems/monitoring and evaluation specialists and others essential to the effective functioning of the health system.

Child Survival and Health Gran...ts Program (CSHGP) - Save the Children (India)
more
|
The CSHGP facilitates a dynami...c partnership between USAID and private and voluntary organizations (PVOs)/NGOs. Through the CSHGP, USAID leverages the development entrepreneurship and know how of PVOs/NGOs and their local partners for innovative and effective community-oriented programming that sustainably improves maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) outcomes, strengthens local and community health systems, and contributes to reductions in morbidity and mortality. PVOs/NGOs, with their local partners (national and local MOH, local NGOs/CBOs, communities), implement in a range of settings, from remote communities in a single district to multiple districts or a province. Projects address critical health needs of vulnerable populationsand work strategically with a systems approach at the household, community, health facility, and policy levels and strengthens linkages as relevant.

|

Under this mechanism USAID wor...ks with the GOI, state authorities and an alliance of donors to scale up three innovative mHealth services (mobile academy, mobile kunji and kilkari) across the seven empowered action group states as part of the national scale up in a phased manner. Funds will be used to continue support the roll-out of services across these states, designed to increase the uptake of positive health behaviors by pregnant women, mothers of children up to two years old and their families. Roll out will include behavior change messages that address early signs of neonatal infections. The mobile academy is an interactive voice response mobile training course on RMNCH+A for front line health workers (FLWs). The mobile kunji is an audio-visual job aid for FLWs to use in their sessions with families. The kilkari is a direct mHealth messaging service, involving weekly calls with time-sensitive information linked to the woman's stage of pregnancy or the child's age.

URBAN WASH ALLIANCE
|
Urban Wash Alliance
|
Improving the delivery and use... of water and sanitation services to India's rapidly growing urban areas is critical to meeting U.S. Government (USG) health objectives for India, particularly in reducing child mortality. As per the Government of India's (GOI) Ministry of Urban Development (MOUD), in notified slums (slums registered by the municipality), 17 percent of the population is without access to improved sanitation, and in unofficial slums, around 50 percent do not have access to improved sanitation facilities. Program efforts to improve water and sanitation services (WSS) have the greatest beneficial impact on the health and hygiene of women and girls. India's growing population of more than one billion puts enormous strains on the ability of the GOI to provide water, sanitation, and health services. U.S. foreign assistance supports the GOI to address WSS needs of the urban poor. USG priorities include safe water access, basic sanitation, WSS policy and governance, and sustainable financing for water and sanitation services. The USG supports integration of water, sanitation and health programs with other sector development programs, such as the GOI's ambitious city and slum development schemes.

This partnership activity will... strengthen national and state governments' capacity to harness private sector solutions for improving access to child, maternal, and primary care services. It leverages $16 million from government and private-sector resources to support primary health care services in the states of Assam, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Funds will be used to: 1) map under-performing public sector primary health care, sub centers, and improve their efficiencies though private health care solutions; 2) harness and integrate health programs with community development initiatives; 3) undertake health technology assessments and support the adoption of proven technologies through national and state programs; 4) pilot 10-15 promising innovations; and 5) evaluate their effectiveness to achieve child and maternal health outcomes.

Rajasthan Maternal and New-bor...n Health (MNH) Impact Bond
more
|
The Rajasthan Maternal and New...-born Health (MNH) Impact Bond is an innovative results-based financing mechanism that will use private investor capital to fund interventions aimed at improving maternal and new-born health in the state of Rajasthan, India. Specifically, the Development Impact Bond (DIB) will support the preparation for accreditation to national standards of private sector small health-care organizations (SHCOs) in Rajasthan. Achievement of the accreditation will result in better quality care, and in turn this is expected to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality. The DIB aims to prepare at least 360 SHCOs to apply for a combined quality certification from the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) and the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).
