TIWALERE II
|
Tiwalere II
|
USAID/Malawi's Tiwalere II act...ivity is a public-private partnership between USAID and Feed the Children and its corporate partners, Nu Skin and Procter and Gamble. Tiwalere II delivers high-impact interventions targeting children under the age of five and women, with special focus on the 1,000 days between conception and age two. The activity will finance community-level workers' efforts to consult with mothers and caregivers on the care and feeding practices of infants and young children. Tiwalere II will conduct nutrition education to improve knowledge and practices; strengthen community referral and support systems for pregnant women and children under the age of five; promote adequate women's nutrition, exclusive breastfeeding, and complementary feeding through social behavior change; construct boreholes and maintain non-functional ones; facilitate the creation of open defecation-free communities and promote access to improved water and sanitation services and the adoption of improved hygiene practices; and promote bed net usage to prevent malaria. The activity has interventions in irrigation farming, winter cropping, fruit tree propagation, and orange-fleshed sweet potato cultivation. The Care Group Model approach that Tiwalere provides at the community level serves as a powerful social and behavior change approach. The approach reinforces community members' confidence and the capacity and skills to act as agents of their own development process, and it fosters self reliance. The activity will improve the health and nutrition status of under-five children in targeted districts in central and northern Malawi and is fundamental to achieving Joint Regional Strategy Goal 4.3 - sustainably reducing hunger, malnutrition and poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. Good nutrition is essential to reducing maternal and child mortality around the world and reaching the Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths (PCMD) goals.

Systems for Improved Access to... Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS)
more
|
SIAPS focuses on enhancing pha...rmaceutical services through patientcentered solutions while continuing to support essential supply chain functions and medical products supply security. The SIAPS goal is to support the achievement of improved and sustained health outcomes by applying a systems strengthening approach consistent with the Global Health Initiative (GHI) principles. The SIAPS result areas address the intersections of five health systems components as they pertain to pharmaceutical services (governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery) in the design of potential interventions to ensure that they respond to health element and cross cutting concerns in support of health system strengthening.
more
|
From 2011 to 2018, the USAID-f...unded Systems for Improved Access to Pharmaceuticals and Services (SIAPS) Program worked to ensure equitable, affordable access to safe, quality-assured medicines and related services in 46 countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Oceania.
The SIAPS pharmaceutical systems strengthening approach included local counterparts and partners in addressing five interrelated health system functions—governance, human resources, information, financing, and service delivery—with a focus on medicines.
The program tackled systemic deficiencies, going beyond the selection, procurement, and distribution of pharmaceutical products to include dispensing and supplying pharmaceuticals to individuals and providing medication-related information and counseling. Treatment focused on critical health areas, such as family planning, HIV/AIDS, malaria, maternal and child health, tuberculosis, and neglected tropical diseases and, more recently, Ebola.

USAID/Mali Sub-National Govern...ance Project
more
|
Local governance and quality o...f the delivery of basic public services affect all aspects of development. USAID/Mali will jump start the regionalization process through supporting Malian regional governments to accountably demand and allocate funds and execute programs through communes for quality services that are aligned with their priorities. Anticipated results are: accountable and efficient devolution of resources from Bamako to the regions, stronger, more capable regional governance bodies, and improved performance of local governments. Activities will focus on the transparency and traceability of funding flows to the sub-national level and accountability of budget allocations/execution. An emphasis is placed on MCH and NUT due to high malnutrition rates, the lack of nutrition commodities at peripheral levels and the lack of MNCH services at lower levels of the health pyramid. Third party monitoring will be conducted to see if MCH and NUT outcomes have been increased.

Activities coded here aim to promote financial protection, efficiency, and affordability of health services in general; ensure the quality or availability of an essential package of prevention, promotion, treatment and care services; enhance equitable access to priority services by under-served, marginalized and other high priority groups; and ensure responsiveness to people's expectations. Such activities strengthen the core health systems functions/building blocks (leadership and governance; finance; human resources for health; medicines, vaccines and technology; and service delivery). Note 1: Operating Units should report activities that address specific element goals under other elements, reserving the use of this cross-cutting health systems strengthening element for overarching activities that are supported with multiple health element funding. Note 2: Operating units should report activities that strengthen the information function of the health system under the Host Country Strategic Information Systems element.

|
The Girls Leadership and Empow...erment through Education (GLEE) activity will increase access to education for adolescent girls in Mopti and Kayes regions. GLEE will enroll 60,000 adolescent girls aged 10-16 in school and support the retention and transition from primary to lower secondary school of 60,000 of them aged 10-18. GLEE will work to increase knowledge and adoption of positive health behaviors among adolescent girls, so that adolescents girls know their reproductive options, girls be able to attend school safely at all times of their menstrual cycles, girls and boys have access to high-quality health services, and they be able to negotiate reproductive choices, including when and how many children to have. GLEE will expand on the ongoing IntraHealth-led Youth Ambassadors (YA) program in Mali by adapting it for the lower secondary school level in Mopti and Kayes, extending the reach of YA messages into primary school through the support of peer educators. GLEE strategies include: community mobilization, participatory capacity building and mentorship/peer learning.

SYSTEMS FOR IMPROVED ACCESS TO... PHARMACEUTICALS AND SERVICES (SIAPS)

|
|
|

MATERNAL AND CHILD SURVIVAL PR...OGRAM (MCSP - FORMERLY RMNCH)
more

Maternal and Child Survival Pr...ogram (MCSP - formerly RMNCH)
more
|
The United States Agency for I...nternational Developments (USAID) Bureau for Global Healths flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) focuses on 25 high-priority countries with the ultimate goal of preventing child and maternal deaths. The Program is introducing and supporting high-impact, sustainable reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH) interventions in partnership with ministries of health and other partners. MCSP places a greater emphasis on key cross-cutting issues such as innovation, e/mHealth, equity, quality, gender, public-private partnerships and involvement of civil society, community approaches, health systems strengthening, and behavior change interventions. While maintaining a focus on technical, high-impact interventions; the Program works toward sustainable scale-up to include the health systems that deliver these interventions. In addition to contributing to high-level technical and policy dialogue at the global level, the Program provides tailored technical assistance to help countries meet specific priorities and contextual needs of local RMNCH programs.

COMMUNICATION FOR IMPROVED HEA...LTH OUTCOMES (CIHO)
more
|
Communication for Improved Hea...lth Outcomes (CIHO)
more
|
Communication for Improved Hea...lth Outcomes Activity (CIHO) will complement the existing efforts by the Government of the Republic of Mozambique (GRM) and development partners to expand access and improve the quality of health services in Sofala. Social and behavior change communications (SBCC) interventions are essential for garnering community support and for addressing human behaviors that are requisite for maximizing the health impact of these health system advances. CIHO will improve Mozambiques capacity to design, implement, and coordinate high-quality SBCC, allowing health promotion efforts to more effectively reduce morbidity and mortality caused by preventable diseases.

|
|
