Bei diesem Erreger ist besonders zu beachten, dass Partikel des Affenpockenvirus eingebettet in Sekreten bzw. getrocknet an Hautschuppen bzw. Schorfpartikeln für längere Zeiträume infektiös sein können, was eine sorgfältige und umfassende Reinigung und Desinfektion der Patientenumgebung bzw. der Oberflächen notwendig macht.
