F.A: ENHANCING LEARNING IN ETH...NIC COMMUNITIES TOGTEHER ELECT
more

F.a: Enhancing Learning in Eth...nic Communities Togteher ELECT
more
|
In the Phongsaly Province in N...orth-Eastern Laos the children of ethnic minorities to whom most of the people belong do not learn to read write because the teaching in the local schools is given in a language (lao) that the children dont understand. The learning materials are culturally not relevant, which makes learning even more difficult. Most of the parents are illiterate themselves and have little access to information or skills that could improve their ability to have their rights to health, hygiene, food security and decision making respected by their community leaders or local authorities .The project helps the local teachers and education authorities to understand the importance to provide mother-tongue pre-education to the children, parallel to using the Lao language in teaching. Teaching materials are developed to reflect the local cultural understanding and knowledge, and the teachers are trained in using more child-friendly teaching methods. The culture of the ethnic minority, such as poems, games and songs, are collected and used in making the teaching materials. The life skills are discussed both with the young people and the adults, making them better prepared for the changing world around them. The health of the expecting mothers and the new-borns is improving, as the local traditional birth-attendants and the village health volunteered get better informed of the importance of the ante-natal health and birth-preparedness, and of the hygiene and good birthing practices, including the diet of the mother and the child. Also the number of women going to health clinics in close-by towns is increasing. Perhaps the most important change that the project aims to make is in the attitudes of the local duty-bearers, i.e. the village decision makers and the local government authorities. Advocacy and training to the duty-bearers is essential for them to change their attitude from dictating orders to providing public services to the rights-holders. Ultimately, together with the increasing understanding of their rights by the people in the project villages, this change in the mentality of the duty-bearers is essential for the sustainability of the project results. The project is implemented by World Renew.

EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN WITH DISA...BILITIES THROUGH PEER GROUPS AND IMPROVEMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES

Empowerment of Women with Disa...bilities through peer groups and improvement of health services
more
|
During the current first phase... of the project (2017-2018) 8 peer-groups have been established the project team have built important relationships with local authorities in Ulaanbaatar and the 5 rural provinces in which the project is being carried out and concrete steps have been taken to improve accessibility to reproductive health services for women with disabilities (WWDs) in Ulaanbaatar. The continuation project builds on these achievements while also expanding the project to new new geographical areas (Selenge Province).Disabled women are among the most vulnerable and socially excluded groups in society. Knowledge concerning their sexual and reproductive rights is limited. WWDs themselves often lack basic knowledge concerning their bodies and reproduction. In addition health professionals have difficulty communicating with WWDs on these matters due to lack of training and in some cases discriminatory attitudes. State facilities also frequently lack suitable equipment for examining WWDs and may be poorly accessible for instance to wheelchair users. This second project phase supports the achievements of the first project phase through continued support to disabled peer groups and setting up new groups in poorly served areas training peer groups in carrying out research using Emancipatory Disability Research (EDR) methodology training health professionals on issues related to the sexual and reproductive rights of people with disabilities and advocating for the improvement of access to state health facilities in all provinces in seven provinces. Other important goals include strengthening partnerships with local authorities and strengthening the capacity of our local implementing partner the Mongolian National Association of Wheelchair Users (MNAWU). A reproductive health education package will be produced and put into use.

The main beneficiaries of the ...Programme are Tanzanian children and youth. Children, youth with disabilities, and girls are the special target groups. The Programme has 23 530 direct and 68 840 indirect beneficiaries. The activities are carried out in 6 different geographical areas that act either as a demo project for the other sites or in which a special set of barriers obstructing the fulfilment of childrens rights have been identified. The main problem in the society is the lack of knowledge on childrens rights for both rights holders and duty bearers. For this reason, civil society and authorities do not pay so much attention to the wellbeing and development of children. The Programme will be implemented by a Tanzanian partner, Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania which is a remarkable influence in the Tanzanian civil society. In addition to its approximately 800 000 members, FPCT has an extensive network of local and government actors within its realm of cooperation and influence. The Programme seeks to strengthen the advocacy roles of different civil society actors and FPCT regarding childrens rights. The Programme theme, right to health is addressed in different levels through a knowledge increase regarding nutrition and preventive health, care takers ability to respond to health challenges of children with disabilities, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. In the latter the Programme especially targets menstruation management, hygiene and psychosocial support for traumatized children. That the beneficiaries organize into civil society groups that promote the right to health is among the main activities. The theme right to education is addressed in the Programme through multiple activities: by empowering caretakers to realize childrens right to education, by providing support for better school performance and self-esteem development through childrens clubs, by sensitizing communities on the importance of education and strengthening participatory methods in education. Regarding the theme right to adequate standard of living, the activities include introducing initiatives that strengthen family livelihood, improved food security, improved living environment, and life and entrepreneurship skills especially among women and PWD. #The quality of the partners advocacy work is strengthened through developing platforms, where the voice of children with and without disabilities can be heard by the wider public.

Health Tanzania. Capacity buil...ding for health care sector in Tanzania
more
|
The developmental objective of... the project is to continue to improve the impact of Tanzanian health services especially of maternal and infant health services and services for children with disabilities by training interventions. Health is a crucial determinant of societal development. A specific aim is within the catchment area of selected regional hospitals to ascertain the availability of sufficient and relevant monitoring and health services before and during pregnancy and childbirth as well as postnatally. These services are reinforced by strengthening practical skills via on the job learning and by developing health care education (further education and vocational education) in the region. Doctors midwives mothers public heath nurses and community health workers and students are supported to work as multiprofessional teams. It is especially important to strengthen the possibilities for rehabilitation of children with birth injuries and children with disability. Mentors and coaches are voluntary Finnish doctors with long experience of working in developing countries and lecturers and experts from university of applied sciences focusing on nursing public health and global health education. The whole health care system of Tanzania is the beneficiary via improved efficacy and quality and the personnel will take responsibility on health care provision in a holistic manner. The project aims at strengthening existing structures especially in rural neglected areas. This is expected to produce the highest added value.

Conflicts and humanitarian cri...ses affect women girls boys and men differently. Women and girls face heightened risks and are among the most vulnerable. Finland highlights women?s rights participation and needs in humanitarian assistance and policy. Finland pays particular attention to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and to the need to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in humanitarian situations. Women and girls ? especially SRHR and work against GBV ? as well as young people are at the centre of UNFPA?s actions. In recent years UNFPA has strengthened its humanitarian role. Finland?s support is allocated to UNFPA?s new thematic fund which focuses on SRHR and GBV prevention and response. Finland?s support is earmarked to UNFPA?s Covid-19 response. The programme's gender & SRHR ...work focuses on capacity development of Plan staff and partners to enable the delivery of gender transformative SRHR programme. This means that the programme actors are able to deliver objectives of the programme in a way that contributes towards sustainable change in harmful social norms, preventing future discrimination. The expected immidiate results are increased capacity of programme staff (Plan & partners) on gender transformative programming and SRHR and the quality of rights based programming. The ultimate beneficiaries are the programme beneficiaries, whose living conditions and social position have improved due to gender transfromative programming. In addition to Plan International Finland, part of this work is done through Plan International's global networks and with partners specialized in SRHR.
