no information found on specif...ic project -> UNICEF's activities in Syria in 2016 in general -> Health and nuTrition component: 61 million US$. All components: 279.4 million US$. Health: Syria remained polio free in 2016, with 3.5 million children immunized against polio. Through investments in routine immunization, just over 279,000 (58% of the target) children under one year were reached with DPT3 vaccine, some 372,000 (77%) reached with MMR, and 454,000 (94%) reached with BCG2. Three rounds of a nationwide multi-antigen accelerated immunisation campaign were conducted. From Damascus the campaign focused on besieged and hard-to-reach areas in which more than 1.7 million children under five were screened, of whom 1.3 million (75%) were up to date with their vaccination while some 444,000 (25%) defaulters were vaccinated. From cross-border at least 456,000 children were vaccinated in all three rounds with a range of antigens including OPV and Pentavalent.
To maintain the cold chain, 1,127 refrigerators and 11 cold and freezer rooms were installed. Over 1.64 million children and women accessed health services through 16 rehabilitated public health centres, as well as 95 health centres and 30 mobile health teams run by UNICEF supported NGOs. UNICEF continued to build the capacity of health and nutrition counterparts with more than 6,300 doctors, nurses, midwives and technicians trained on immunization, maternal health, control of diarrhoea and acute respiratory infections, integrated management of childhood Illnesses (IMCI), neonatal care, vaccines supply management, school health, and reporting systems.
Nutrition: In 2016 UNICEF and partners undertook a SMART nutrition survey, which found a moderate acute malnutrition rate of 1.2%, a severe acute malnutrition rate of 0.5%, and stunting rate of 12.7%. UNICEF reached close to 350,000 children and mothers in HTR and besieged locations with therapeutic nutrition supplies, complementary food, and micronutrient supplements. Over 936,000 children and over 182,000 pregnant and lactating women (PLW) were screened for malnutrition, of whom close to 19,000 children and 1,400 women received treatment. Over 658,000 PLW were counselled on proper breastfeeding and complementary feeding and over 461,000 children and 140,000 mothers received multiple micronutrient supplements. UNICEF has undertaken an extensive capacity development of partners, including through training 2,706 male and female frontline health workers on screening, referral, treatment of malnutrition through community management of acute malnutrition, and on infant and young feeding practices to treat and prevent malnutrition and stunting.(SYR SI2.733760 Humanitarian aid and food assistance p.23; 3-4)

The objective of this request ...for support is to reduce the morbidity and mortality of the conflict-affected population, especially the most vulnerable groups including the wounded, chronically ill and women and children, with a special focus on beneficiaries in hard-to-reach areas. The project focuses on supporting the provision of trauma care and other life-saving and life-sustaining essential health care services including mass vaccination campaigns. The response will encompass activities conducted by WHO's office in Damascus and by WHO's hubs in the neighbouring countries of Turkey and Jordan (Gaziantep and Amman respectively) - the so-called Whole of Syria coordinated response. no information found on specif...ic project -> UNICEF's activities in Syria in 2016 in general -> Health and nuTrition component: 61 million US$.

Cenral African Republic is goi...ng through the most difficult political and humanitarian crisis in its history. UN estimation is that about one million people have been forced to leave their homes and out of them 416 000 have fled to neighbouring states Cameroon Chad Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo. All these countries were hosting Central African refugees already before the beginnig of the present crisis in December 2013. Neighbouring countries have generously kept the access to asylum possible but the burden to host communities is enormous and more and more difficult to bear. Within the UN Cluster coordination mechanism UNICEF is Lead Agency in WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene)- Education- and Nutrition and Child Protection Clusters of the Central African Republic Regional Response Plan.

|
F.a: Returning Refugee Repatri...ation Project
more
|
Thousands of Burundian refugee...s are sent back to their homeland every year from the neighbouring countries. The project helps refugees in Nyanza Lac in Burundi to reintegrate in the country. They are offered help to build their own house and they are also given agricultural tools, seeds and mosquito nets. So far 270 households have benefitted from this help. A health station, which the returning refugees can benefit from, is getting equipped and renovated through the project. Sewing courses are arranged for young women who otherwise would have difficulties supporting themselves. When they finish the course they are given a sewing machine and can start earning money by sewing clothes. The project is supported in cooperation with Community of Pentecostal Churches in Burundin (CEPBU). CEPBU has long experience of humanitarian aid and development projects.

Syrian conflict is one of the ...biggest refugee crisis in the world. There are about 37 million refugees in the neighboring countries of Syria. In Jordan the number of refugees is over 600 000. Finnish Red Cross together with the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement started the Azraq hospital operation in 2013 by the request of the Jordan government. Hospital was opened in the autumn 2014. The objective of the hospital is to provide safe and quality secondary level health care for the Syrian refugees for free. The capacity to assist people is 20 000 which is the estimated number of refugees in Azraq in 2015. FRC is in the lead of operation in cooperation with German Red Cross IFRC and Jordan Red Crescent. ECHO has financed the operation and is still going to finance a part of the year 2015. The grant provided to FCR ensures the operation of the hospital for two months. Operation staff from Finland will be assigned.

Kenya is the second largest ho...st country for refugees in Africa. There are more than 560000 refugees and asylum-seekers particularly from Somalia South Sudan and also Ethiopia. The Somali refugee situation is globally one of the most protracted refugee crises and weakening of the situation in South Sudan is reflected in Kenya in the increase of the number of refugees. The UNHCR Kenya operation has been ongoing for more than 25 years and important current elements now include supporting the voluntary repatriation of Somali refugees while at the same time accommodating the influx from South Sudan as well as the development of durable solutions.
