|
The project is aimed at end-st...age COVID-19 patients with severe breathing problems. These patients are in the critical phase of the disease and the main problem is the critical gas exchange in the lungs. The project addresses these patients as the equipment required will improve treatment and increase the number of patients. The listed products were specifically named by the team of the anaesthesia and intensive care clinic in Niš as particularly important and urgently necessary. The aim is to improve the number and quality of care for patients who were cared for during the COVID-19 emergency in the anaesthesia and intensive care clinic in Niš.

EQUIPPING GENERAL HOSPITAL ŠA...BAC WITH DIGITAL MOBILE RADIOGRAPHIC/X-RAY-MACHINE FOR DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF COVID-19 PATIENTS

Equipping General Hospital Ša...bac with Digital Mobile Radiographic/X-ray-Machine for diagnosis and treatment of Covid-19 patients
more
|
The infection situation in Ser...bia has worsened in the last few months, accordingly the Šabac hospital has been converted into a COVID clinic. The clinic covers a large part of the surrounding communities and cities (approx. 300,000 inhabitants) and treats other serious cases in addition to COVID patients. In view of the hospital's pavilion type (patients are in different buildings) and the growing number of examined and hospitalized patients, the procurement of a mobile X-ray machine was identified as particularly important. A portable x-ray machine could enable rapid radiological diagnosis of patients with COVID-19 (many of whom have severe symptoms - patients confined to bed and immobile patients in intensive care units) and thus timely decisions about appropriate therapy and other options for treatment exhibit.

COVID-19 - Medical beds and eq...uipment for the district infectious diseases hospital in Starobilsk, in the conflict-affected Donbas, Ukraine
more
|
This Project is one of the mic...ro-projects of the Consulate General Donetsk in its consular district (5 regions of the Eastern Ukraine). This part of the country needs a special support, because of the war in the Donbas, the constant migration of internally displaced persons and the insufficient state support for people in need. The COVID-19 pandemic aggravated the situation in the Donbas. Despite the lack of equipment, the Starobilsk hospital has become one of the most important hospitals for the treatment of COVID patients in the Luhansk region. But the hospital's capabilities allow treating only 30 patients at the same time. And the beds used were produced more than 40 years ago. Thanks to the project 15 additional beds and other medical equipment (4 medical monitors, 3 electrocardiographs) have been purchased, which significantly improve the treatment conditions in the hospital.

INTERNAL CALL PROJECT Design a...utomation and manufacturing of an adequate actuator for manual respirators
more
|

The International Atomic Energ...y Agency (IAEA) will provide diagnostic kits, equipment and training in nuclear-derived detection techniques to countries asking for assistance in tackling the worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19. The assistance, requested by over 65 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, is part of intensified global efforts to contain infections. The diagnostic technique, known as real time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (real time RT-PCR), can help detect and identify the novel coronavirus accurately within hours in humans, as well as in animals that may also host it. The IAEA is a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 crisis management team, because the equipment required for this RT-PCR diagnostic procedure relies on nuclear techniques, the IAEA is taking the lead in procuring and delivering these toolkits to requesting countries.

Rapid, Low-cost Diagnostics an...d Deployable Surge Capacity for COVID-19
more
|
Coronaviruses (CoV) are a larg...e family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is a new strain that has not been previously associated with humans. The outbreak of COVID-19, first identified in Wuhan (China), highlights the importance of a rapid response to infectious diseases in a highly interconnected world. Innovative diagnostic technologies are key tools in the fight against spread of the COVID-19, allowing frontline responders to quickly triage patients specially in fragile health-care systems. This project will develop tools to provide field-ready, low cost and deployable surge capacity for the diagnosis and surveillance of COVID-19. Moreover, it aims to foster the ability of teams in Vietnam and Brazil to design and manufacture diagnostic tests. The project is led by Dr. Keith Pardee (University of Toronto, Canada) and involves researchers from Canada, USA, Brazil and Vietnam. It was selected for funding through the Canadian 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Rapid Research Funding Opportunity which was coordinated by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and Genome Canada.

Canadian funding through this ...project will enable the Global Fund to procure 10 million antigen rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs). These tests represent a significant improvement over existing, lab-based or automated PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, which are currently being used in developing countries. Compared with PCR tests, which can be expensive and take longer to provide results, these RDTs are low-cost and can provide results in as little as 15 minutes. Improving access to testing is essential for controlling the spread of COVID-19 as test capacity enables targeted public health measures and use of therapeutics and vaccines as they become available.
