|
The World Bank's (WB) Multi Do...nor Trust Fund (MDTF) aims to reconstruct and rehabilitate conflict-affected provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Balochistan. This funding will help the WB commence additional activities and scale-up existing activities. The Asian Development Bank, European Union, WB and United Nations developed a post conflict needs analysis (PCNA) which addressed immediate post-crisis needs and identified strategic and peace building priorities which address the drivers and root causes of conflict in KPK, FATA and Balochistan. The PCNA was prepared to produce a coherent strategy to deliver an agreed vision for the border region to be achieved within ten years. The total value of Australia's contribution is $21.5 million over 4 years, starting 2011-12.

Project Details:
Strengthening Health Services in Crisis affected Districts of KP (US$ 25 million): Based on the successful experience of revitalizing and improving healthcare services under a public-private-partnership model in Batagram, an improved version is to be replicated in five conflict affected districts. The project will improve these services through rationalization of health management functions and a public-private partnership arrangement. It will also help establish a robust monitoring and evaluation system for this model in each district as well as at provincial level to measure the impact of management improvements on services. The Basic Education Assistance... for Mindanao program in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BEAM-ARMM) focuses on the most disadvantaged, poor and conflict affected communities. This program tackles the issue of low numbers of children who enrol in school, and stay to complete their schooling. It also addresses poor learning results in elementary and secondary schools. It will enable around 40,000 children to access pre-school and elementary school. It will provide: pre-school classes in around 1,300 remote Muslim communities; education for children affected by conflict; 2,500 classrooms; and 100 water facilities. It will establish six centres to produce learning materials and provide health programs in 300 schools. It will improve livelihood skills for 20,000 out-of-school youth. It will also establish Community Learning Centres in communities without government schools. BEAM-ARMM is a $99.6 million initiative over 8 years, starting 2009-10.

The Democratic Republic of Con...go (DRC) ranks 11th out of 22 countries most affected by Tuberculosis (TB). TB is a serious public health problem despite the policy of free medication being made available across the country. The program supported by this grant aims to ensure a treatment success rate of new TB smear-positive patients at 87 percent by the end of 2012. The goal of the program is to reduce the morbidity and mortality caused by TB in the Congolese population. The program will treat all TB patients with first-line drugs and focus on people affected by multi-drug resistant (MDR) TB. The program is also a follow-up of the Global Fund Round 2 TB and Round 5 and 6 consolidated grants in the DRC, which will be implemented by two Principal Recipients under Dual Track Financing scheme. The current grant will implement Practical Approach to Respiratory Health (APSR), apply Public-Private Mix (PPM) strategies, and strengthen awareness through advocacy and community-based TB care by extending community-based Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course (DOTS) therapy, and setting up associations of former TB patients and research activities.

RDP is implemented by the Solo...mon Islands Government (SIG) and partners are the Australian
Government, European Union, the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), the World
Bank, and, the communities from eight of the country’s provinces excluding Renbel. RDP has three main
components:
1. Local infrastructure and service delivery. Grants are provided to each ward for the construction or
rehabilitation of essential infrastructure, such as health posts, teachers' accommodation, water
supply and foot bridges. Projects are implemented by village-level committees.
2. Improved agriculture services. This provides essential equipment and training to SIG ministries to
improve capacity and services. Training and services provided are driven by demand at the local level,
with men and women farmers prioritising their own needs.
3. Rural business development. This facilitates growth and development to each province of rural
enterprises by providing supplementary equity-financing to rural businesses.
As at July 2014, across the provinces of Western, Choiseul, Malaita, Temotu, Isabel, Makira-Ulawa, Central
Islands and Guadalcanal, the following results have been achieved:
• Completed community projects are already benefitting 120,000 people — more than one in 10
Solomon Islanders. There has been a more than 90 percent increase in villages reporting satisfaction
with access to critical services including water supply, health centres, community halls and school
buildings.
• More than 37,000 farmers, nearly half of them women, from all 8 provinces received extension advice
or training in growing subsistence and commercial crops.
• Supplemental equity provided by RDP resulted in 58 businesses benefiting from increased access to
finance.
• The program is on track to provide assistance to some 300,000 people, more than half of the
country’s population. Program investments include water supply, classrooms, health aid posts, foot
bridges and community halls.

This initiative is to support ...the Department of Health and Ageing to manage funds to support the Ministry of Health in Tuvalu implement Tuvalu's National Oral Health Survey.Although, health is yet to be a priority outcome area under the Partnership for Development with Tuvalu, this initiative will contribute to fulfilling the Long-term Milestones 2015 of the Te Kakeega II Strategic Area 3 to ' secure respectable health standard for Tuvaluans' and progress toward accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4, ' to reduce child mortality' and Goal 5 ' to improve maternal health'.Due to these side effects and the importance of improving oral health in Tuvalu inline with Outcome 4.5 of the Tuvalu Strategic Health Plan 2009-2019 to Strengthened Oral Health services, the Ministry of Health in Tuvalu started working with the Australian Research Centre for Health Population Oral Health (ARCPOH) to develop questionnaires and samples for a national survey on oral health in Tuvalu. The survey will provide critical information on the status of oral health in Tuvalu through the data collected from this national survey. The analysis of the surveyed data will inform how the Ministry of Health in Tuvalu determines disease distribution and severity of oral health conditions in Tuvalu, determine oral health treatment needs, provide baseline data to assist in the planning of oral health services and programs, provide baseline data to assist in the assessment and evaluation of oral health services and programs in the future. It is envisaged that the survey will improve Government of Tuvalu's ability to plan and implement targeted oral health activities. The survey will inform trends and its impact on overall health outcomes. This survey will also add value at the national level to achieving of AusAID's strategic goals on saving lives in Tuvalu as the survey will inform targeted activities to improve oral health outcomes and reduce mortality rates.

Solomon Islands Rural Developm...ent Program

The Solomon Islands Rural Deve...lopment Program Phase 2 will improve access to basic services in rural areas and improve farming practices leading to increased production and productivity. The program will provide benefits to around 250,000 rural households with: improved access to infrastructure and services; civil servants through training, and service providers and contractors in the private and non-government sectors. The initial value of this initiative was $20.0 million but was extended to incorporate a second phase, starting January 2015. The total value of this program over the period 2007-08 to 2020-21 is $35.3 million.

The Asian Sports Partnerships ...(ASP) program provides a new opportunity for sports cooperation through the Government's Australian Sports Diplomacy Strategy 2015-18. The Sports Diplomacy Strategy aims to: connect people and institutions; enhance sport for development; showcase Australian capability; and support innovation and integrity in Sport. The ASP will provide a flexible and responsive mechanism to encourage sports collaboration between Australian and foreign organisations, focusing on innovation, and building linkages between all elements of Australia's development and sports programs in Asia. The ASP provides a practical means to advance key priorities for the region including supporting emerging leaders, youth, women and girls. It will look to provide funding to support new programs, expand National Sporting Organisations' geographic focus, trial new approaches, and develop new partnerships. The total value of this program is $4.9 million over 4 years, starting 2015-16.
