Community Health Development P...roject. This is a new project and detailed planning is still under way. The project seeks to improve the community health situation in Kangwon province, Sepo county. Health care services in North Korea are insufficient especially qualitively and the knowledge of health issues is generally low. There are clear health risks in hygiene and sanitation and the project seeks to reduce these risks. The health care system suffers from lack of resources. The basic level of the health care system are the village clinics. This project aims at strengthening the service capacity at this level. The project will study possibilities to expand the Primary Dental Care Support Programme (5212) to Kangwon Province. The project also includes Fida country coordination as a component, covering all the activities in the country.

The overall goal of the projec...t is to improve the social and economic situation of men, women and their families in the Shabuye/Chabi area, and to promote peaceful coexistence between the different ethnic peoples by enhancing participation. In the Gambella people's regional state, Mejengir Zone, the Shabuye (Chabi) people, who are the focus of this project, are socially excluded and culturally subordinated by the neighboring ethnic groups. The number of Shabuye/Chabi is estimated to be 1.500. The Shabuye/Chabi people used to live in the forest being totally detached from the neighboring peoples except for sharing the market place. They are coming out of the forest to Yeri area due to a settlement program of the government to enable them get access to social services and other basic infrastructure. They are not familiarized with modern farming systems and agricultural extension system is not well established. By the end of the second phase of the project, awareness of the Shabuye/Chabi people to use the social structure is developed; school conditions, school enrollment and attendance of their children has increased; sustainable agriculture has been developed and agricultural extension services have been introduced. The health situation has been improved through provision of medicine and equipment to the local health post, sensitization of community members on environmental sanitation, public health and hiv/aids prevention and control as well as potable water supply. The beneficiary is the whole Shabuye/Chabi population. The implementing agency is the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus / Illubabor Bethel Synod Development and Social Services Commission (EECMY-DASSC-IBS) in Mettu.

Farmers are hopeless, when cro...ps fail which happens often, for example due to droughts. In the first five months of 2015 alone, 257 farmers in Maharashtra have committed suicide, according to the state government. The project aims to increase hope for the farmers and their families, and help them develop new agricultural skill and better crops. The project has empowered the community e.g. by providing them with agricultural knowledge and health education. Farmers have been taught organic agriculture in a model farm. Many farmers have already come and they have been willing to learn how to do organic agriculture. The sponsorship program has supported children of farmers. In 2016, there will be two new villages where the project will assist farmers and their families. The project goal is improved quality of life of the rural communities. The purpose is improved self-help attitude of the rural communities. As a result, the hope and confidence of farmers increases and they are able to get better crops.

The programme works for the im...provement of rural communities' socio-economic situation and quality of life, as well for the strengthening of community capacities and enhancing children's rights in Meibeki Valley, Western Kenya. At the beginning of the programme, water and sanitation were inadequate and the availability of clean water was weak. This was also reflected in children's health and education. One of the main goals has been the availability of clean drinking water. At present the water supply system consists of a more than 162 km long pipeline. Clean water has permanently changed the life of more than 35 000 persons. The evaluation report shows that 89% of households have now access to clean water less than 500m from their homes during the rainy season and 61.7 %, respectively during the dry season . (In 2004: 1.4%)More than 7,000 children are now able to go to school and have time to do their homework, when their time is not needed for fetching water. To ensure better educational possibilities for the children, educational conditions have been improved with the support of the parents. Already more than 2,500 children study in the improved classrooms. With the support of the program, two dormitories have been constructed for secondary school girls. The program beneficiaries are the 54,000 inhabitants living in the area, especially women and children, who used use several hours a day to fetch water. Having clean water closer to the homes has freed time for time for other things as well as brought new income opportunities, like vegetable farming, agriculture and caring for livestock. A change in the women's role can be seen: there are many women as village chiefs and school attendance among girls has grown considerably. Children's participation in collective decision-making is encouraged through the Children's Parliament. Children and young people are represented in the village committee and the water committee. The main partner is World Vision Kenya that runs the implementation and accounts for the use of funding. In addition there are many partners from different ministries, regional government officials, and religious communities.

The programme works for the im...provement of rural communities' socio-economic situation and quality of life, as well for the strengthening of community capacities and enhancing children's rights in Mogotio, Western Kenya. The programme was evaluated in 2016, and based on evaluation findings the new programme period will focus on WASH (water, sanitation and health) activities, including livelihood support, such as providing access to clean water for households, health centres and schools, in cooperation with local water authorities, and child protection as well as participation. The evaluation findings were positive. More people have access to clean water, and water-born disease cases have decreased. Families can provide better for their children, and in around 40 % of families, at least one parent has sustainable income. HIV/AIDS prevalence has decreased in the area. There remain some challenges especially related to access to clean water and livelihoods in the dry season. The water network should be extended, existing water faucets reconditioned and the water committees offered capacity for sustainable management of water faucets. Also, project teams consisting of members of the community and the structures relevant to sustainability still need support. The status of protection and participation of children still requires support. Gender inequality, child marriage and violence against girls are some of the remaining issues in the community. Children's participation in collective decision-making is encouraged through Children's Parliament and the situation of women and girls are supported through focus on harmful traditions such as female genital mutilation and early marriages, as well as acts of violence against girls. Community advocacy groups are facilitated to engage in county planning in budgeting for sanitation and hygiene programmes and to mobilize resources. The water committees are facilitated to handle the use, maintenance and monitoring of water resources. The program beneficiaries are the 16 840 persons living in the programme area. The main partner is World Vision Kenya that runs the implementation and accounts for the use of funding.

GENERAL BUDGET SUPPORT 2015-20...16
more
|
General Budget Support 2015-20...16
more
|
General Budget Support is one ...of the main development aid instruments in the Mozambique Country Strategy (2014-2017). Finland's participation in General Budget Support gives the possibility to influence Mozambique's development in a comprehensive way and allows for political dialogue at high level. The decision on how the General Budget Support funds are used is made by the Parliament of Mozambique. General Budget Support promotes responsible and transparent use of public resources and strengthens national systems. General Budget Support supports the main objectives of the Poverty Reduction Plan PARP (2011-2014 extended to 2015); poverty reduction and sustainable economic growth. The proposal is to allocate 6 million Euros per year in total 12 million Euros for the period of 2015-2016 to General Budget Support in Mozambique. The OECD/DAC Budget Support evaluation (years 2005-2012) concluded that General Budget Support in Mozambique has been an effective way to fund the government budget and the best instrument in ensuring predictability of aid. Budget Support has contributed to major improvements particularly in the education sector. In primary education 40% more children were at school in 2012 in comparison with 2004. Total spending on priority sectors (i.a. education health and agriculture) has quadrupled over 2005-2012 with the general budget support. The public finance management has improved substantially. However the general budget support has not been succesful in reducing income poverty. Poverty declined significantly between the years 1996/7 and 2002/3 from 69 per cent to 54 per cent the pace has slowed down since then. The malnutrition of children is still a major challenge.

|
The project is an extension of... a project offering peer support to pregnant and nursing women and their families and maternity counseling on a voluntary basis. The goal was to alter habits towards healthier diet better hygiene and support for Early Childhood Development (ECD) . Although the achievements of the first phase are important changing of entrenched habits and inherited behavior i a slow process. The continuation of the project is aims to ensure sustainability of the results and to expand the impact of the project including 200 new beneficiary families in the process.Essential themes of the project are the monitoring of health during pregnancy after-care and nursing support as well as ECD and prevention of domestic violence. These themes are studied by women and teenage mothers men and grandmothers. The project will be implemented through small groups of women with the help of an existing and trained network of peer promoters. 20 pre-existing groups will be assisted and new beneficiaries will get support to set up their own groups which in addition to the project themes practice organization and social skills. All groups are encouraged to act autonomously and continue after the end of the project. An aim of the project is to increase the knowledge of children's growth and development and to provide parents and caregivers with practical tools to promote new educational methods in everyday life. Beneficiaries learn to identify and understand the different stages of child development and to search for non-violent alternatives in challenging situations. A new theme is domestic violence prevention and a non-violent upbringing of children. Violence prevention means tearing down structures that are hampering the development of children and well-being of the family. In addition 6 therapy groups will be set up for women and girls victims of violence or sexual violence. The groups are assisted by voluntary psychology students under the responsibility of a psychologist. The members of the groups will strengthen their self-esteem and a positive self-image. Also men may set up their own peer groups for the processing of violent experiences.

This project College of health... sciences and health educationwill emerge from SEMCON-friends association's previous development co-operation projects. A health center a hospital a motherless babies home and a nursing school with secondary buildings have been built after year 2000 into Mgboko Ofokobe rain forest village in Nigeria with development co-operation funding.Based to requirements raised by Nigerian partner and local authorities there is an increased need to educate other heath care professionals than nurses for example Junior Community Health Extension Workers Nursing Senior Community Health Extension Workers Public Health Administration Health Information Management Public Healt Science and Community Healt Science. Abia State has two other nursing schools but none of them offer so diverse qualifications as required (fulfilling a need for diverse skills educational establishements). The initative to extend the areas of education and training fields has come from local authorities. The goal is to educate various levels of health care profesionals. The school gives young people the opportunity to graduate profession and will continue to support themselves either someone's else's payroll or by setting up their own business. The school is using the hospital which we built as a training place and the students offer health education towards the villages and schools on regional level. All of the local residents are actually benebicaries primarily young trainees. The goal is is to teach heelth habits includinh hand hygiene importance of sanitary health food reproductive health for seeking appropriate medical care when required malaria treatment HIV/AIDS knowledge vaccination program maternity clinics...The project will be utilizing the existing structure further exixting operations. The aim is to complete the area with couple of buildings which will cover among other things teacher's officies. Additionally existing buildings will be acquired more furniture and materials as well as equipment for teaching. A school will receive official permits recruited staff and it can start to be operational. At the same time the operation and development of medical education on the village will be supported.

Projects phase 2017-2020 focus... will be on staff training basic services and operations strengthening as well focusing making them sustainable. Health center MCH will continue to deliver basic health services medicines and workers salaries supports in 2017-2020. For 2017-2020 we will focus Afmadow MCH as well extend similar full MCH services to Dhobley MCH. Thus in the future to support the will focus in two main MCH facilities in Jubbaland. For the period 2017-2020 is intended to train 16 to 24 laboratory-nurses midwives 16-24 16-24 nurses 8-12 vaccination nurses and auxiliaries from 24 to 36 (tot. 80-120) and in addition to organizing training 2-3 to 50 per year the area of health care staff to promote health education. This improved the quality of services and increase the competence of workers.During the years 2017-20 we want to closely cooperate with Jubbaland Ministry of Health and international organizations UNFPA UNICEF WHO and IOM as well as other local organizations. We want to continue well started cooperation of 2015 and 2016 with UNFPA and we believe possibilities for further collaborations with international organizations during 2017-2020.With American Refugee Committee we plan a mobile clinic for the district in 2017-2018 as security improves. The clinic is meant to go to villages and provide basic health services particularly to children and mothers. We believe this will increase the effectiveness of health services thus reduce maternal and child mortality significantly. We believe the clinics are very important for Afmadow district health and well-being of mothers and children and hopes from MFA to continue its supports for the next four years 2017-2020 as a part of its Somalia health sector Supports. We believe that in this period international organizations as well Jubbaland Ministry of Health will be able to reach locations we support and will take responsibilities as we expect on a sustainable ground.

|
The project aims both to conti...nue already on going health care activities and further develop them but that can not be done without financial resource. The objectives are to sustain the achievements of the previous project and improve further both the preventive and curative health care services delivered in GHC-project OPDs MCHs and in Galgadud Regional Hospital. The project will strengthen the emergency and maternity sections in the hospital by improving the capacity of the current staff and recruiting more qualified staff. The gender equity will be respected. The main beneficiaries will be the most vulnerable groups in the society mainly children pregnant and lactating mothers tuberculosis patients elderly sick people project staff their families and relatives merchants builders carpenters painters and the whole community as well both socially and economically. The main activities will be continuing strengthening and sustaining previous project activities rehabilitation of the hospital outpatient main building adding MCH and delivery rooms store water reservoir toilets and building surrounding walls for Marergur previous health post. Add laboratory store and rehabilitate the meeting room veranda and toilets of Gadon MCH/OPD and build the surrounding walls as well. Purchase two new cars medicine and medical supplies recruit new staff and actually run the whole project activities. These activities can not be implemented without enough financial resources. The required financial resources are not currently available for both Somali Association of Health and Education Development SAHED ry and newly Internationally recognized weak Somali Government and that is why we are applying continuation project support from the Ministry for the coming 2-3 years.

The aim of the project is to s...trengthen the health sector in Northern Somalia (Puntland and Somaliland) by developing the human resources of health sector institutions. The project aims to build the capacity of the health sector by using the health professionals of Somali diaspora particularly the Finnish Somali diaspora who travel to the region to build the capacity of health sector institutions. The overall objective is to contribute to improved health outcomes in Puntland and Somaliland. A special emphasis will be given to initiatives that focus on improving the health services for women and children. The project is implemented by IOM (International Organization for Migration). The project is in its third and last phase. Since 2008 the project has been building the capacity of carious health sector institutions in Northern Somalia. Over 700 local healthcare workers have benefited from the on-the-job training provided by voluntary experts. Under the initiative and leadership of voluntary experts a dental clinic an intensive care unit and a hemodialysis unit have been established at the Hargeisa Group Hospital. These are the only units providing such public services in whole Somalia. A project voluntary expert also led a team in drafting a legal framework for accreditation of health professionals in Somaliland which led to the signing into law of the Health Regulatoru Act.The Unit for Eastern and Western Africa proposes that the project receives 300.000? additional funding which will be used from August 2016 until March 2017. The total budget of the project will then be 3 400 000 euros for 2014-2017.

Somali Joint Health and Nutrit...ion Programme (JHNP)
more
|
Finland has supported Somalia'...s Joint-Health and Nutrition Programme (JHNP) since 2014. Finland's contribution to the programme has been 12.5 million euros. The main objective of the programme is to improve the health and nutrition status of the Somali population. As a result of this maternal and infant mortality has reduced significantly. The programme also supports the institutional development of the Somali health care system. The primary beneficiaries of the programme are women girls and children whose access to health services is relatively the weakest. The programme is managed by UNICEF. Other UN partners include WHO and UNFPA. The programme has achieved most of the planned results. It is supposed to be ending by the end of 2016 and replaced by new programmes and projects. The planned budget has however not realized and the programme is severely under-resourced. At the same time the planning of the new programmes and initiatives that are supposed to replace JHNP in 2017 has delayed. The Somali authorities and the UN have therefore requested the donors to continue their support to the core elements of the programme including the Essential Package of Health Services (health clinics) and the ongoing training of midwifes and to extend the duration of the programme until April-2017.The Department for Africa and the Middle East proposes to increase Finland's funding to the programme by 3M?.

The programme works for the im...provement of children's well-being by developing pre and primary school education and health and nutrition status of children and by widening the livelihoods possibilities of poor families in the programme area. The programme is implemented in the Kalpitiya peninsula, Puttalam District in North West of Sri Lanka. The main challenges in the area are the shortage of clean water and pollution, as well as the families' uncertain income and shortage of land for cultivation. The programme aims to empower community members to utilize their own capacities. In health, the improvements in the water and sanitation sectors are central, as well as enhancing access to quality child health care. The parents of malnourished children are trained to prepare nutritious but still affordable meals. Home gardens are promoted and new livelihoods opportunities supported. In addition, the community members are provided with information on child rights and child protection and children's clubs for child participation are established. The programme benefits 29.000 people in 13 rural villages. The main partner is World Vision Sri Lanka, which is responsible for the programme implementation and for the utilization of the programme resources.

Continued Education of the Per...sonnel in the Saba Saba Health Care Centre
more
|
The inhabitants of Morogoro (3...00 000) do not receive qualitative basic health care because the regional hospital does not admit patients of this level any more. Morogoro Municipality have decided to 1. upgrade the standard of one Saba Saba health centre and to 2. change it into a municipal hospital as soon as the state will grant it the recourses for building equipment and personnel. At the moment the health centre cannot guarantee qualified basic health care due to lack of the personnels know-how and the insufficient equipment and instruments. Long-term objective of the project is that Morogoro inhabitants will receive qualitative basic health care. It would also serve other health institutions. Objectives: 1) Qualified and skilled personnel in the health centre with necessary equipment and instruments (focused in the four areas prioritized by them) 2) Know-how of the personnel in other health care institutions will also improve thanks to job-circulation.It is also necessary for the poor disabled elderly people and HIV-patients to receive good health care at affordable price. In support of developing a new health care level in Morogoro municipality according to a decision made by the state the region and the municipality: one health centre will be upgraded (later into a municipal hospital. The aim is to support that phase by supervising the personnel in a future project)
